In todays video we continue to 'unbuild' our campervan in the attempt to get it legal in Spain, it's been a tough time but we are sure it'll all work out in the end and we'll be back to van life soon in a better than ever van! This is absolutely ridiculous. You have my sympathies. You are handling it well. All the materials are salvageable so that is a huge savings. Just keep telling yourselves that.
And the adventure continues.... What a "Trip" guys. Soon enough we will all look back and have a good laugh... but it's ok to sneak in a little cry 😢 in the meantime.

If you have to lift the tiles a hairdryer used to soften the adhesive will get them up. If your going to replace the leaf springs definitely have a serious look at installing air suspension on the back. It knocks out all the lumps and bumps out of the road and also improves the ride. It isn't all that expensive but definitely improves the drive.

Hey Guys, I recently watched a van build where the bathroom was like a fake wall that pulls out and there were cabinets on the wall in the side that is always on show in the van, it was genius and looked really easy! Think it Was midlife vanlife if you fancy changing the bathroom layout and have more of an open space! So edited and checked it was midlife vanlife and about 3 weeks ago. They actually have some good ideas that I hadn’t seen before. Have a blessed week guys 🙏🤗
I think you need Dizzie to do the rebuild. He did a great job supervising the dismantling of the lounge/bed!

Such a shame you have had to strip the van, but like you said, you can now decide your own layout and what you actually need in there. Most vans have the rear fixed bed because it gives them a good garage/storage area and they leave out the shower so it’s a much more open space. The weight is definitely a plus to keeping it minimal. I’m sure you will be researching your perfect layout. 🤞🏻 for the registration. 😘
I noticed some of the build used big bits of wood. I'm pretty sure that 50mm x 50mm would suffice in almost any situation. That would save a tidy bit of wieght.

In this case, I think the most positive aspect of the whole video was the fact you finally got to vacuum clean the van! I just love, vacuuming, our motorhome, and the feeling of getting all that dust and dirt sucked up and out is incredible.
Perhaps you could keep the skylights in and just cover them over with something?

This is absolutely the best way to know what you have, take it all apart and rebuild. I’ve just finished a 4 year project on my 4x4 camper, and I’m 69, finally finished today, registered ready for our first trip. Get on with it! 12:01 😊

The layout that I'm in the process of building will have a cubicle behind the driver that will be a shower/wardrobe/toilet/fold down expanding bed/mobile kitchen unit storage. Two of the rear van window dimples will house fold out tables. The wall cavities will be up to an inch wider and will be divided into cupboards. The result will be a camper/van that will be very spacious and able to be used as a work van when you need it. In my opinion building out a van with cupboards etc and filling it up is inefficient use of space and materials and fuel to lug it around. I like that you may revert to a curtain and bucket shower, much easier to maintain lighter and less imposing on the space.

About your wall by the shower and toilet to access the connection. Cut out a square and put a handle and hinges on the other side to make a door to access the plumbing so you don't have to take down the wall to get to the plumbing when there's a problem. All you need is a small exit door. We did it with one of our bathrooms and it's great to access the plumbing just with a little door. Maybe you can do it with the toilet too, I don't know, but I know you can do it with the shower. Fabulous idea? Of course!

Wow well done! What a job! We were so lucky with our van matriculation to Portugal a couple of years back. We were able to leave our fixed furniture, fan, heater and electrics in place... Much less of a task. Then we got an engineer to approve our project for the fixtures and got it registered as a especial dormacil... The main hold ups for us was during covid no one was in the office.... Really hope the next stages go much smoother for you both. It's worth it in the end for sure!!! ❤
At least you can make your own design now. In all honesty it wasn’t the best layout but it is a shame you have had to do this if you liked the layout. ❤❤❤

incredible how small the van looks without all the bits'n'pieces... this law of stripping everything down to get the van certified really sucks though! but think of all the FUN you'll have re-building it. and maybe you can throw in some changes too, if you like. good luck!!! 🤗
On a positive side when it comes to putting it back together there is the good prospect of making it even better and even more to what you want also you really will know the van intimately😊
This issue with the towbar in Spain is if you don’t have the paperwork that it was on the van from the start normally they won’t approve it. It needs to be a towbar from the itv tios company and full of paperwork in triplicate. If you don’t need it remove it. Took me over 3 months to legalize a towbar, that was a manufacturer towbar (brand new) but not brought in Spain.
Keep positive you'll get there in the end and you'll create an even better camper that you'll love and get lots of years enjoyment from.I can see how heartbreaking it must be though.

It looks like you have the beginnings of a rust problem under the van. You can slow it down a lot by getting it sprayed underneath with a six monthly spraying with a 50/50 mix of clean oil and diesel. Don't do it yourself, it needs to be on a ramp. My local garages does it in about 30 minutes
When you start putting it all back together, put more insulation in it will keep it much warmer in the winter months and cooler in the summer , as what's in there at the moment is shocking it's mainly just sound deadening foam,
Its gonna be awesome when your done! Everything exactly the way you want it and where you want it! Heads up and power on, its almost over!

Quick tip: get a multi tool for cutting the channel for the bulkhead. Much more controllable than a scary angle grinder, and much safer too 😉. Best of luck with the certification! Peace and love from (not) sunny Suffolk ❤️😁.

Nick and Sarah, I’m really sorry you’re having to strip down Velton, especially after all the hard work you put in to make it your own. That said, don’t be disheartened. There’s a lot on the van that I can see you changing to make it your own and like you say, make it much lighter. Hang in there because there are many adventures ahead for you and the doggies. Looks like you've got stacks of stacking to do, which is ironic because the first record released on the legendary STAX label was "Fool In Love" by The Veltones (according to Wikipedia and UA-cam). I'm not fatalistic but it looks someone might have foretold your destiny, because there's a lot of Soul Classics in their catalogue that are applicable to Van Lifers in general. Notably: Day Tripper, Knock On Wood ,Tramp, If Your Ready Come Go With Me, I'll Take You There, (Sitting On) The Dock Of The Bay and Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa (Sad Song) by Otis Redding and The Staple Singers to name but a few. Just thinking about weight. When we bought our van we turned our grey water tank into a fresh water tank. For our grey water we use a collapsable container that weighs nothing and we have extra water. Win win.

Sorry for all the problems you have. Just to say- if you are going on long trips with all the stuff you mentioned, you won’t be able to get it in the van if you keep the layout you had before. You will need the garage at the back. Good luck guys.

I wonder if they make a step that will fit on the tow mount? I know here in the US we have bicycle racks that will mount to our tow bars.🤔 This is frustrating to watch, I can’t believe you have to take apart that beautiful van build.😱 I suppose it allows you to paint, and seal up anything you find.🤷🏽♀️😜 You’ve got a positive attitude about it, cuz I’d be a swearing sailor!
‘Certain things make sense, some things are stupid’, I personally don’t think any part of this makes sense. Certainly admire your trying to make a silk purse outa a sows ear so to speak (not talking about the van🥴). You have more grit than I would under those circumstances. Your paw-sitivity is really impressive. One thing you can look forward to is driving the empty van and realising you get an extra 20MPG out of it. I'm sure when you get there the new build will be even better for you that the van was when you picked him up

It's just a giant jigsaw....😊 .....when you were labelling it all up I thought how lovely but almost zero chance of reassembly..... I've set factories up in China and know how hard it is to transfer a manual job from one set of people to another......even with professional instruction......I would redesign and reuse what ever materials you can salvage.....good luck and I look forward to the end result ❤
you will have to beef up your rear spring blades to carry the extra load so this is a good thing actually for your rebuild
Hey guys, i have been watching all through for a while now and i must say having to take your van apart makes me MAD!!!! soooooo stupid, it does my head in!!! hope you get it back together soon!
Love your new intro, still think it's so bloody stupid to have to go to that extreme. If I was doing a self build van I would definitely have one of the incineration toilets, that just use gas to burn both urine and poo at high temperatures and the ash just drops into a little container that you empty when it's full. In fact when we find our forever motorhome I would look into the possibility of changing the toilet if possible to one of them. As usual you are a pleasure to watch, love to all four of you. X
All will go well. Then the build will start, with the modifications you mentioned the van will look great and be a lot lighter in weight. So bring it on. 💚

Mind and fill screw holes before rebuild as the fittings somtimes do not like going back in origional holes,your van will soon be back for new great adventures.
Don't forget while it's all striped out to underseal the bottom of the van.

Might be worth keeping original batteries. They will last longer and useful when using a diesel heater. Good luck!
