Just made this recipe tonight… DELICIOUS & ABSOLUTE PERFECTION, from the tasty filling to the non-mushy/flaky/buttery-tasting crust (top & BOTTOM)!!! It was a hit w/ my entire family (5ppl; 2 seniors, 9yo-son, 42yo-husband, and myself)! Thank you, John, for all of your AHHHH-MAZING recipes! They’re so inspirational, and has reignited my love for cooking/baking again! I’ve made many (not all yet) of your recipes already, and EVERY SINGLE ONE have been WINNERS for my husband & I; “IF” I followed directions properly, and didn’t get distracted, lol!
I just started cooking about 2 months ago. When starting this I didn’t realize how time consuming it would be (granted everything I made was from scratch: the crust, the chicken, the shredding of the chicken, and I minced and chopped up my veggies) but because of this video I managed to pull it off! It took me a total of 9 and a half hours (I’m new so I moved slowly and made triple sure of the next steps so don’t judge me hahaha). Thank you so much for this video!! Definitely will be using your videos for future recipes. 🎉
Keep cooking, it will get faster with time. Cooking is a life long skill and for me it was also very slow, but it pays off in spades over the long term
John Kanell! I’ve made 20+ of your recipes and my family praises me as being the best cook out of them all because of your recipes. Thank you for being in love with cooking and making these recipes for us to share with our families.
I made this tonight and it was superb! My grandson loved it also! It's one of my favorite things to make. I didn't make my own crust though. At my age, 74, I don't feel too badly when I use a store bought crust. The Pillsbury ones are really good btw.. just don't buy the store brand ones.. they're not very good and tend to fall apart when you try to get them out of the wrappers and onto your pie plates
I only had one store bought crust but I cut raw Biscuit dough in half to place on top. I had homemade turkey broth in the freezer i used for the broth. It smells delicious already! It is in the oven as I type!
I made this tonight for dinner. Let me say....it is outstanding!! I threw a pack of chicken thighs in the crockpot before I left for work and they shredded right up when I got home! I cut the peas down to 1/2 cup and added a 1/2 cup of frozen corn. I'll never be able to eat store bought pie crust again after making homemade pie crust for the first time. Thank you so much for such a great instructional video 👍🏻 I'll definitely be making this again 😋
My stepdad just had open heart surgery yesterday. I wanted to make something yummy for him and my mom while he’s recovering. Having never made a chicken pot pie before, I’m so thankful for your video! For anyone wondering, yes, it tastes really good. Thank you!
This is almost exactly my recipe except i always put in a generous portion of chopped mushrooms. It's absolutely delish! I've also made it with some leftover roast beef chopped into bits and that comes out great also. Pot pie is a great way to clean out your fridge while making something yummy that seems planned but is really just put together with leftovers. 😋
I made this last night and it was fantastic. I used purchased pie crusts because I've never been successful making my own. The filling was delicious and easy. Thank you!!
Well,I just made this pie and can I say. Yum, yum yum. The pie crust, absolutely perfect. ( my mother in law thought it was store bought). The filling came together beautifully. I have to say every single thing I have made from John has been really tasty. No mess ups and everything comes out as directed.. You are a great cook/ baker… Thank you for another great recipe…..
I've only made one thing of his that I didn't care for but it was bc I thought it was too rich but I can't remember what it was... he gives great directions and is so pleasant to listen to
Didn't have Heavy Cream, use Half & Half, worked great. Added 1 cup of small cubed potatos (cooked in microwave). Chicken thighs were baked with German Stone Ground mustard & oil. This added a bit of ZING. Had enough for pie plus 2 full one serving baking dishes. Came together easily, served with salad and warm bakery bread. Enjoy your recipes and YOU so very much. Got spiraled cook book...🥰
I'm 58 years old and have been so intimidated by all the "rules" of homemade pie crust that I have never tried to bake with them. I always used store bought and did not like the taste. I came across your channel and have tried several of your recipes with great success. You helped me get comfortable with my bread machine as well. Tonight I tried this pie crust recipe. Wow! It was so easy and it turned out fantastic. I made a chicken pot pie and it was so good. Now I want to use the other w crusts on an apple pie. Don't hesitate everyone, make this pie crust!
This recipe right here. This, I’m calling the best, and I’m a chicken pot pie connoisseur 😀 I’ve been known to make excellent chicken pot pies. What makes this recipe great is the measurements, excellent meat to vegetables ratio. And it was an excellent idea to sautée the vegetables before and make the roux right there with the vegetables, why didn’t I think of that? 😄 I substituted chicken for turkey chunks form last night (Thanksgiving) and voilà! Delicious. Thank you!
Okay I’m definitely making this for this Sunday dinner. I’m so obsessed with your content. You and your husband have an amazing family. I wish I had y’all in my family. Y’all are so awesome. Happy cooking!
Just came across this recipe and made it yesterday. This is absolutely one of the most delicious things I have ever made (and I’m 68 yrs old)! I had made a large rotisserie chicken a couple of days before and was wondering what to do with the leftovers. I used Pillsbury pie crusts and they worked just fine. This is a real winner.
I was literally making a frozen Marie calendar chicken pot pie when this popped up and now I don’t want it😭 this looks so amazing definitely going to have to give it a try🤤
I believe that's why he baked at 425° then lowered the temp... I've actually never seen a recipe call for two temps like pumpkin pie does b4. I can't wait to apply the technique
@@leahrowe847 That was the part I did not follow. I put the whole pie in my freezer for 20 minutes while the oven was heating . Then baked at 415 for 20 minutes with the edges tented. Then remove and baked for 50 minutes at 375. The bottom was perfect. The pie is delicious .
If you grease and flour the pie plate before you put in the bottom dough and then a sprinkle of flour on top of the crust before adding the filling the bottom crust will be golden brown!
This is really helpful, you are making my holiday season alot better now. We actually are buying one of those cooked chickens so you basically saved some other meat I froze for a different meal. Thank you.
Oooo that's making me feel so hungry, it looks sooo good, Brian is lucky to have John cooking an baking all that delicious food and cakes etc. My gosh if I were married to John I would be the size of a house lol
