I just started cooking about 2 months ago. When starting this I didn’t realize how time consuming it would be (granted everything I made was from scratch: the crust, the chicken, the shredding of the chicken, and I minced and chopped up my veggies) but because of this video I managed to pull it off! It took me a total of 9 and a half hours (I’m new so I moved slowly and made triple sure of the next steps so don’t judge me hahaha). Thank you so much for this video!! Definitely will be using your videos for future recipes. 🎉
Keep cooking, it will get faster with time. Cooking is a life long skill and for me it was also very slow, but it pays off in spades over the long term

Just made this recipe tonight… DELICIOUS & ABSOLUTE PERFECTION, from the tasty filling to the non-mushy/flaky/buttery-tasting crust (top & BOTTOM)!!! It was a hit w/ my entire family (5ppl; 2 seniors, 9yo-son, 42yo-husband, and myself)! Thank you, John, for all of your AHHHH-MAZING recipes! They’re so inspirational, and has reignited my love for cooking/baking again! I’ve made many (not all yet) of your recipes already, and EVERY SINGLE ONE have been WINNERS for my husband & I; “IF” I followed directions properly, and didn’t get distracted, lol!
I made this tonight and it was superb! My grandson loved it also! It's one of my favorite things to make. I didn't make my own crust though. At my age, 74, I don't feel too badly when I use a store bought crust. The Pillsbury ones are really good btw.. just don't buy the store brand ones.. they're not very good and tend to fall apart when you try to get them out of the wrappers and onto your pie plates
I only had one store bought crust but I cut raw Biscuit dough in half to place on top. I had homemade turkey broth in the freezer i used for the broth. It smells delicious already! It is in the oven as I type!
I was literally making a frozen Marie calendar chicken pot pie when this popped up and now I don’t want it😭 this looks so amazing definitely going to have to give it a try🤤
This is almost exactly my recipe except i always put in a generous portion of chopped mushrooms. It's absolutely delish! I've also made it with some leftover roast beef chopped into bits and that comes out great also. Pot pie is a great way to clean out your fridge while making something yummy that seems planned but is really just put together with leftovers. 😋
This recipe right here. This, I’m calling the best, and I’m a chicken pot pie connoisseur 😀 I’ve been known to make excellent chicken pot pies. What makes this recipe great is the measurements, excellent meat to vegetables ratio. And it was an excellent idea to sautée the vegetables before and make the roux right there with the vegetables, why didn’t I think of that? 😄 I substituted chicken for turkey chunks form last night (Thanksgiving) and voilà! Delicious. Thank you!
I made this tonight for dinner. Let me say....it is outstanding!! I threw a pack of chicken thighs in the crockpot before I left for work and they shredded right up when I got home! I cut the peas down to 1/2 cup and added a 1/2 cup of frozen corn. I'll never be able to eat store bought pie crust again after making homemade pie crust for the first time. Thank you so much for such a great instructional video 👍🏻 I'll definitely be making this again 😋
Well,I just made this pie and can I say. Yum, yum yum. The pie crust, absolutely perfect. ( my mother in law thought it was store bought). The filling came together beautifully. I have to say every single thing I have made from John has been really tasty. No mess ups and everything comes out as directed.. You are a great cook/ baker… Thank you for another great recipe…..
I've only made one thing of his that I didn't care for but it was bc I thought it was too rich but I can't remember what it was... he gives great directions and is so pleasant to listen to
I believe that's why he baked at 425° then lowered the temp... I've actually never seen a recipe call for two temps like pumpkin pie does b4. I can't wait to apply the technique
@@leahrowe847 That was the part I did not follow. I put the whole pie in my freezer for 20 minutes while the oven was heating . Then baked at 415 for 20 minutes with the edges tented. Then remove and baked for 50 minutes at 375. The bottom was perfect. The pie is delicious .
If you grease and flour the pie plate before you put in the bottom dough and then a sprinkle of flour on top of the crust before adding the filling the bottom crust will be golden brown!
I made this last night and it was fantastic. I used purchased pie crusts because I've never been successful making my own. The filling was delicious and easy. Thank you!!
I made this with my grandmother and it turned out perfect. Thank you for the recipe the only thing we did differently was that we used crescent roll dough for the crust.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I made this pot pie last night, it was perfect. Didn't make my crust though because I already had some bought crust on hand. Will make your easy crust the next time I make something that requires a crust. Hint: Have ALL your ingredients prepared in advance because the cooking goes really fast after the flour has been added. PSA: I didn't have my peas out, nor had my chicken cut up. Had to take my meal off of the eye to slow down to get the rest prepared.
Okay I’m definitely making this for this Sunday dinner. I’m so obsessed with your content. You and your husband have an amazing family. I wish I had y’all in my family. Y’all are so awesome. Happy cooking!
Just came across this recipe and made it yesterday. This is absolutely one of the most delicious things I have ever made (and I’m 68 yrs old)! I had made a large rotisserie chicken a couple of days before and was wondering what to do with the leftovers. I used Pillsbury pie crusts and they worked just fine. This is a real winner.
Oooo that's making me feel so hungry, it looks sooo good, Brian is lucky to have John cooking an baking all that delicious food and cakes etc. My gosh if I were married to John I would be the size of a house lol
@@markdavich5829 Gordon Ramsay's recipe for pie crust has worked quite well for me. Personally, I love making pies in a muffin tray, Australian style, perfect for cold winter days.
Dude... this is an incredible recipe along with the apple and vanilla custard pie recipes! I made this yesterday and it was the first time my pie pastry turned out well. Even though I did over-bake it a bit and the filling was a bit too dry, my wife said it was THE BEST chicken pot pie she ever tasted! I was having trouble with over-working dough that didn't have enough moisture content - it wasn't until I went by weight instead of a measuring cup that I had success with the pastry and I might even go with a smidge more water next time. Another problem I had was working dough that was too cold. I had no experience/frame of reference so even with good directions I had to be patient and keep trying. Good things to do would be to keep precise notes of how much water/flour you use on each attempt/miserable failure (a measuring cup is 'NOT' a good thing to use for flour) and how long to let the dough warm back up before you try to roll it out after it's been in the fridge.
Let's listen to this beautiful pot pie. Now to make it, melt some butter in your pot, then add some dice veggies when it's thickened, turn off the fire and add some chicken, broth, onion powder ,garlic powder and salt. Make the dough, and bake until golden. enjoy.
I just made this recipe with a lard crust. My coworkers loved my apple pie lard recipe. It’s currently in the oven and can’t wait to try it. Thanks for the video!
Made this last night with a few modifications to use ingredients I had on hand, and boy was it good! My husband literally are HALF THE PIE! 😂 I was hoping for leftovers today, but alas! Guess I'll have to make another!
Btw, I even enjoyed the crust! As a lifelong crust hater, that's a huge compliment! I've always been someone who leaves any excess crust, but not yesterday!
Nice, and you make it look so easy - I would however, add some chopped mushrooms, maybe a little bacon! It occurs to me as well, that this recipe would also adapt to say, some leftover roast beef, pot roast, pork loin, etc. if that's what's on hand, rather than chicken. A very useful all-purpose base for whatever scraps remain from a family meal - thank you!
Made this filling recipe but used a different recipe for the crust. I used Natasha’s kitchen pie crust recipe. Both of you have delicious recipes. My husband ate half the pie last night in one sitting lol. Thank you for posting
This was totally delicious. I made it with leftover smoked turkey and bone broth. I skipped the peas because I like frozen white corn kernals better, and used whole milk instead of cream.
Corn instead of peas, that's a wonderful substitution (I never acquired a taste for peas). And I'm going to sprinkle some shredded cheddar on the top of the pie towards the end of baking.
I’ve been wondering about a fantastic chicken pot pie recipe that blows my friend’s out of the water and THANK GOODNESS FOR YOU! I can’t wait to make this to have her chomping at the bit as to where I got mine from! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I made this yesterday. Next time, I’ll cut back on the thyme and add more salt, pepper, and perhaps a pinch of cayenne. Need to roll the top layer dough a bit thinner too. Otherwise this is a freakin’ hearty dish! Perfect to bring a friend recovering from an illness or broken leg.
I am so happy you used a bottom crust and a top crust for you pot pie! I very strongly dislike those who only use a top crust. When I make Shepherd's or Cottage Pies I use a bottom crust even though the top is mashed potatoes. Great video 👍
Hi! My mom often used to make chicken or mincemeat pie for me . Since this is Brian’s favourite recipe, you could make a B out of pie dough and stick it on the top of the pie : personalised for him! My mom always used to cut off the trimming of the pie dough to make the initials of my name to put on top of the pie !Thank you for reviving my memories! You are such a nice person
Thanks for this recipe, I sure have been making it totally wrong all this time, wow. My medic son works 60-70 hours per week lately so I try to help him out by making him something he can eat for a couple or three days, he loves the chicken pot pie. I’m sure he’s going to know something is up when he gets this on Saturday 🤣
Just made this, substituted diced potatoes for peas. Used Goya sazon instead of salt & pepper. Now to wait for the pie to be ready from the oven. Cold weather, so perfect dinner idea! Thanks for making this video.
I make mine in an 8 inch rectangular dish so it’s easier to serve plus it helps with portion controls. It’s also easy to switch from chicken to turkey pot pie.
Omg, THEE BEST 👍 I make mine super similarly, but I’m stupid and didn’t use heavy cream. Then I also used canned peas and carrots instead of frozen and DEAR GOD it was nowhere NEAR as good as it could’ve been 😂 please guys do not make my same mistake 😅 You make rolling out pie dough look so easy but it’s not lol! I’m so jealous about everything hahaha 😂 i hope one day I can bake a pot pie at least half as decently as you do 😩 lol but thank you!!!
Hi !! Preppy Kitchen Happy 😊 Tuesday. I made a chicken pot pie 🥧 last month from sracth it came out really good I used string beans, mushrooms to make my pot pie . I used grilled chicken and chopped it up . Your chicken pot pie looks delicious. I am going to do a Turkey pot pie for my left over turkey . Thank you for the video have a great night 🌙 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💯💯🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
2:00 had me visualizing whirled peas, thanks. Hey John, merchandising suggestion: make your own brand of copper cookware. I'd buy the ____ out of the copper pepper grinder and measuring cups. do it!
So technically not a pot pie because it has a bottom crust. But that’s just what I was looking for. No matter what or how i searched all chile pie had only top crust! So happy to have found this!
Soooo delicious!! I didn’t grow up with this, but I became fascinated with trying it out for the first time! I just made it and my boyfriend said it’s the best he’s had 🥹 I subbed gluten-free crust from scratch, and I also added mushrooms and red potatoes to the filling but I followed everything else. Officially added this to my recipe book to keep forever. THANK YOU!!
Guysss this recipe is an absolute delight! I made this for Christmas and everyone enjoyed. You can use the broth from the chicken instead of the stock which is as tasty.
Thanks for sharing this pie recipe.with simple ingredients and easy to prepare yet looks delicious. Surely I try your recipe next time I go to a potluck lunch.
I made this for dinner…. Excellent!! This is getting a 5 star in my recipe program…. That’s the “will make again” vote!! Thank you for a great recipe and fantastic instruction… I especially love how to roll and form the dough at the edge! That will be used beyond the Chicken Pot Pie…. I am spreading the word!!
Good recipe. Pretty much like mine except for the top instead of more dough I make a crust of whipped mashed potatoes. Then you have your starch, less dough. (And you can use your left over mashed potatoes.)
Found your videos a couple of days ago. I've been watching so many on chicken pie and I am going to try yours next week and if it works out I'll make it for Christmss day. It looks beautiful.
I'm trying to make your recipe for your chicken pot pie tonight. It smells delicious already in the oven. My taste tester is my older son. He loves food & really appreciates fine homemade foods. If it's good, he'll ummm his way through each bite; that's how I know it's a hit. So we'll see, I have another 35 min left in the oven. Thank you 😊🤗🫓
Made this the other day. Sooo delicious! I didn’t want to go to the store for fresh veggies so I used a bag of frozen corn, peas ans carrots and mixed them in with the garlic and onion. Took a little longer for the veggies to defrost and some of the water to evaporate but otherwise came out delicious. Would love to know what you think of this cheat and how it affects taste. Thanks!
Could you be a dear and tell me where you found those lovely white pedestal bowls with lion heads…. And the size😬 I’m absolutely wild about your UA-cam channel.🥰🥰

WOW! Chicken pot pie is our favourite, my kids could eat it every day -( if I let them! ), - your video popped up and, you make it look so easy to do! The pie crust is my only hurdle, but your recipe looks do-able, so now I have no excuses, so tomorrow is pie day! Thank you!
Im not a big pea person but I do like frozen peas - they are like fresh they stay firmer. I also like making the crust on top only like Marie Calendar - less cooking time, no soggy bottom
I like this video! I realize it’s a year old. Recently discovered you and now a subscriber. ‘so much am lovin’ your energy ❤ and I am learning so much from you. I love chicken pot pie! Fall is here and time for those warming comfort foods. This is a first time attempt at the chicken pot pie. I am going to have to figure how to modify because I am using gluten free pre-made shell and for crust.
Bro, love your recipes! So easy! You always remember to incorporate the little details that make everything turn out; like, " I didn't even watch a UA-cam video for this, it's my Grandma's recipe." Keep up the great work!
I just made this and it was REALLY, REALLY good!! I had a few carrots that weren't as soft as they should've been, so I'll cut them thinner next time. Would definitely recommend this. Thanks John!!
Outstanding, straight forward recipe with excellent explanation, very tasty! Whole family loves this recipe and I didn't even like chicken pie before making this version. A+++
Out of all the videos I've seen on UA-cam, specifically for Chicken Pot Pie, this is THE ONE that I will be making. Thank you so much! I love the simplicity of your video and the instruction. Simple and to the point! I can't wait to finally make one from scratch!
Love the receipe. The best video ever. Quick and dirct to the point. Explained and showed everything, and step by step. And not a lot of unnecessary talking. Direct to the point. Will make this today for the family dinner, but will make the filling a little more loose, dont want it to dry, so I would need a little more broth/ gravy. 😁💖✌
@@eduardo_corrochio No, it did not. I prepped the chicken and carrots the day before. I also used our favorite brand of premade crusts, which is delicious to us.

Thank you! I had success with this recipe. Only my second pie of any kind and it turned out great thanks to the guidance.
Omg, THEE BEST 👍
I make mine super similarly, but I’m stupid and didn’t use heavy cream. Then I also used canned peas and carrots instead of frozen and DEAR GOD it was nowhere NEAR as good as it could’ve been 😂 please guys do not make my same mistake 😅
You make rolling out pie dough look so easy but it’s not lol!
This one of my favorite thing in the winter months.
This is perfect for Thanksgiving John! And I've never had chicken pot pie before. Looks so good! Hope to try this soon 😋 😋 😋
Thanks for sharing this pie recipe.with simple ingredients and easy to prepare yet looks delicious. Surely I try your recipe next time I go to a potluck lunch.
This is what I’m having for thanksgiving this year ❤just about ready to go in the oven thks
Looks so delicious! I love the fact that you made a bottom crust!
I tried this recipe and it was amazing. Thx for the great recipe and instructions. Will never eat a frozen pot pie again.
I made this lastnight for dinner. It took me about 3 hrs, but wow, well worth it. It was so very good. Thankyou.
Hi, I'm from Brazil and I love spending time watching the recipes. This is a great pie to get the family together and have fun. 🤩👍
Thank you 😊🤗🫓
Thank you😊i tried this recipe today.my first time making pot pies and it turned out great!
Thanks!
I was thinking frozen peas & carrots would be perfect, as his didn't have much gravy. I also like those square carrots... LOL
That looks great. I love pot pie. Gonna try it with premade dough and shredded store bought chicken.
So simple, but tastes like it took hours and hours. I've never used heavy cream but what a decadent addition. Great recipe!
Could you be a dear and tell me where you found those lovely white pedestal bowls with lion heads…. And the size😬 I’m absolutely wild about your UA-cam channel.🥰🥰
Great recipe, i love it, i add a 'cream of chicken' soup mix to standard cream before adding it. I do use store brought pastry tho. Comes out great.

This is the best chicken pot pie I have ever made. Thank you so much.
WOW!
Chicken pot pie is our favourite, my kids could eat it every day -( if I let them! ), -
your video popped up and, you make it look so easy to do!
I used this recipe (with my own crust recipe) and it turned out wonderful!
Bro, love your recipes! So easy!
You always remember to
incorporate the little details that make everything turn out; like, " I didn't even watch a UA-cam video for this, it's my Grandma's recipe."
Keep up the great work!
This was so easy and the best chicken pot pie I’ve ever had
I’ve been using your recipe for past 1 year I love it this way! So Goooood! 10/10 recommend!!!
I just made this and it was REALLY, REALLY good!!
I had a few carrots that weren't as soft as they should've been, so I'll cut them thinner next time.
Would definitely recommend this.
Thanks John!!
I made this today and it turned out so delicious. Thank you for sharing.
Oh I forgot to mention that you have the best kitchen ever! It is BEAUTIFUL!
Learning your classic American recipes with my wife in Russia. Trying not to laugh half the time. Thank you 😆
Turkey pot pie is our favorite thanksgiving day leftovers recipe.
Outstanding, straight forward recipe with excellent explanation, very tasty! Whole family loves this recipe and I didn't even like chicken pie before making this version. A+++
I’ve been wondering how to make CPP for a couple of years now! Love your videos. Thank you for the great recipes!
Out of all the videos I've seen on UA-cam, specifically for Chicken Pot Pie, this is THE ONE that I will be making. Thank you so much! I love the simplicity of your video and the instruction. Simple and to the point! I can't wait to finally make one from scratch!
Was the Pie Dish smeared with Butter to Prevent Sticking.... ?? Would that be an Option to Recommend ??.... this Dish looks Delish 👌 😍
I use your buttermilk made from sour cream for fish and shrimp batter it holds the breading fantastic. Better than vanilla ice cream.
I made this last night. It took 3 hrs!!! But my husband said it was excellent. ❤😊
Did the 3 hours include removing & shredding the meat from the rotisserie chicken? I'm curious--- thanks.
@@eduardo_corrochio No, it did not. I prepped the chicken and carrots the day before. I also used our favorite brand of premade crusts, which is delicious to us.
@@anoldranger1575 Thanks!
Thank you for the recipe I will be making this this weekend
I love how simple this recipe is for me to make for my family. Also, John, please please please show me how to make homemade Torrone nougat for dessert!
Looks absolutely delicious, thanks for sharing! 😊
Delish!! I added some red potatoes fresh from the garden with my sugar peas and carrots I harvested today. Extra delish!
