I made this tonight. I didn't have alot of the ingredients so I had to improvise but used this recipe as a guide. I did follow the pie crust recipe faithfully and it was so delicious. I can never buy store bought pie crust again. I will blindy trust any and every recipe this man blesses us with.
I just started cooking about 2 months ago. When starting this I didn’t realize how time consuming it would be (granted everything I made was from scratch: the crust, the chicken, the shredding of the chicken, and I minced and chopped up my veggies) but because of this video I managed to pull it off! It took me a total of 9 and a half hours (I’m new so I moved slowly and made triple sure of the next steps so don’t judge me hahaha). Thank you so much for this video!! Definitely will be using your videos for future recipes. 🎉
Keep cooking, it will get faster with time. Cooking is a life long skill and for me it was also very slow, but it pays off in spades over the long term
Just made this recipe tonight… DELICIOUS & ABSOLUTE PERFECTION, from the tasty filling to the non-mushy/flaky/buttery-tasting crust (top & BOTTOM)!!! It was a hit w/ my entire family (5ppl; 2 seniors, 9yo-son, 42yo-husband, and myself)! Thank you, John, for all of your AHHHH-MAZING recipes! They’re so inspirational, and has reignited my love for cooking/baking again! I’ve made many (not all yet) of your recipes already, and EVERY SINGLE ONE have been WINNERS for my husband & I; “IF” I followed directions properly, and didn’t get distracted, lol!
My stepdad just had open heart surgery yesterday. I wanted to make something yummy for him and my mom while he’s recovering. Having never made a chicken pot pie before, I’m so thankful for your video! For anyone wondering, yes, it tastes really good. Thank you!
I made this tonight and it was superb! My grandson loved it also! It's one of my favorite things to make. I didn't make my own crust though. At my age, 74, I don't feel too badly when I use a store bought crust. The Pillsbury ones are really good btw.. just don't buy the store brand ones.. they're not very good and tend to fall apart when you try to get them out of the wrappers and onto your pie plates
I only had one store bought crust but I cut raw Biscuit dough in half to place on top. I had homemade turkey broth in the freezer i used for the broth. It smells delicious already! It is in the oven as I type!
John Kanell! I’ve made 20+ of your recipes and my family praises me as being the best cook out of them all because of your recipes. Thank you for being in love with cooking and making these recipes for us to share with our families.
This is almost exactly my recipe except i always put in a generous portion of chopped mushrooms. It's absolutely delish! I've also made it with some leftover roast beef chopped into bits and that comes out great also. Pot pie is a great way to clean out your fridge while making something yummy that seems planned but is really just put together with leftovers. 😋
I made this tonight for dinner. Let me say....it is outstanding!! I threw a pack of chicken thighs in the crockpot before I left for work and they shredded right up when I got home! I cut the peas down to 1/2 cup and added a 1/2 cup of frozen corn. I'll never be able to eat store bought pie crust again after making homemade pie crust for the first time. Thank you so much for such a great instructional video 👍🏻 I'll definitely be making this again 😋
Didn't have Heavy Cream, use Half & Half, worked great. Added 1 cup of small cubed potatos (cooked in microwave). Chicken thighs were baked with German Stone Ground mustard & oil. This added a bit of ZING. Had enough for pie plus 2 full one serving baking dishes. Came together easily, served with salad and warm bakery bread. Enjoy your recipes and YOU so very much. Got spiraled cook book...🥰
Just came across this recipe and made it yesterday. This is absolutely one of the most delicious things I have ever made (and I’m 68 yrs old)! I had made a large rotisserie chicken a couple of days before and was wondering what to do with the leftovers. I used Pillsbury pie crusts and they worked just fine. This is a real winner.
I was literally making a frozen Marie calendar chicken pot pie when this popped up and now I don’t want it😭 this looks so amazing definitely going to have to give it a try🤤
I made this last night and it was fantastic. I used purchased pie crusts because I've never been successful making my own. The filling was delicious and easy. Thank you!!
This recipe right here. This, I’m calling the best, and I’m a chicken pot pie connoisseur 😀 I’ve been known to make excellent chicken pot pies. What makes this recipe great is the measurements, excellent meat to vegetables ratio. And it was an excellent idea to sautée the vegetables before and make the roux right there with the vegetables, why didn’t I think of that? 😄 I substituted chicken for turkey chunks form last night (Thanksgiving) and voilà! Delicious. Thank you!
Well,I just made this pie and can I say. Yum, yum yum. The pie crust, absolutely perfect. ( my mother in law thought it was store bought). The filling came together beautifully. I have to say every single thing I have made from John has been really tasty. No mess ups and everything comes out as directed.. You are a great cook/ baker… Thank you for another great recipe…..
I've only made one thing of his that I didn't care for but it was bc I thought it was too rich but I can't remember what it was... he gives great directions and is so pleasant to listen to
I made this with my grandmother and it turned out perfect. Thank you for the recipe the only thing we did differently was that we used crescent roll dough for the crust.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I believe that's why he baked at 425° then lowered the temp... I've actually never seen a recipe call for two temps like pumpkin pie does b4. I can't wait to apply the technique
@@leahrowe847 That was the part I did not follow. I put the whole pie in my freezer for 20 minutes while the oven was heating . Then baked at 415 for 20 minutes with the edges tented. Then remove and baked for 50 minutes at 375. The bottom was perfect. The pie is delicious .
If you grease and flour the pie plate before you put in the bottom dough and then a sprinkle of flour on top of the crust before adding the filling the bottom crust will be golden brown!
Okay I’m definitely making this for this Sunday dinner. I’m so obsessed with your content. You and your husband have an amazing family. I wish I had y’all in my family. Y’all are so awesome. Happy cooking!
I made this pot pie last night, it was perfect. Didn't make my crust though because I already had some bought crust on hand. Will make your easy crust the next time I make something that requires a crust. Hint: Have ALL your ingredients prepared in advance because the cooking goes really fast after the flour has been added. PSA: I didn't have my peas out, nor had my chicken cut up. Had to take my meal off of the eye to slow down to get the rest prepared.
Just made this, substituted diced potatoes for peas. Used Goya sazon instead of salt & pepper. Now to wait for the pie to be ready from the oven. Cold weather, so perfect dinner idea! Thanks for making this video.
This was totally delicious. I made it with leftover smoked turkey and bone broth. I skipped the peas because I like frozen white corn kernals better, and used whole milk instead of cream.
Corn instead of peas, that's a wonderful substitution (I never acquired a taste for peas). And I'm going to sprinkle some shredded cheddar on the top of the pie towards the end of baking.
I just made this recipe with a lard crust. My coworkers loved my apple pie lard recipe. It’s currently in the oven and can’t wait to try it. Thanks for the video!
Made this filling recipe but used a different recipe for the crust. I used Natasha’s kitchen pie crust recipe. Both of you have delicious recipes. My husband ate half the pie last night in one sitting lol. Thank you for posting
I made this yesterday. Next time, I’ll cut back on the thyme and add more salt, pepper, and perhaps a pinch of cayenne. Need to roll the top layer dough a bit thinner too. Otherwise this is a freakin’ hearty dish! Perfect to bring a friend recovering from an illness or broken leg.

John, I love your recipes❤️ I’ve made your chicken pot pie and cream creme puffs. You are precise and easy to follow. Even your dough recipe isn’t difficult and I make it all by hand. No mixer necessary for me. ❤️💕❤️💕
I make mine in an 8 inch rectangular dish so it’s easier to serve plus it helps with portion controls. It’s also easy to switch from chicken to turkey pot pie.
Thanks for this recipe, I sure have been making it totally wrong all this time, wow. My medic son works 60-70 hours per week lately so I try to help him out by making him something he can eat for a couple or three days, he loves the chicken pot pie. I’m sure he’s going to know something is up when he gets this on Saturday 🤣
Love the receipe. The best video ever. Quick and dirct to the point. Explained and showed everything, and step by step. And not a lot of unnecessary talking. Direct to the point. So technically not a pot pie because it has a bottom crust. But that’s just what I was looking for. No matter what or how i searched all chile pie had only top crust! So happy to have found this!
I’ve been wondering about a fantastic chicken pot pie recipe that blows my friend’s out of the water and THANK GOODNESS FOR YOU! I can’t wait to make this to have her chomping at the bit as to where I got mine from! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I'm trying to make your recipe for your chicken pot pie tonight. It smells delicious already in the oven. My taste tester is my older son. He loves food & really appreciates fine homemade foods. If it's good, he'll ummm his way through each bite; that's how I know it's a hit. So we'll see, I have another 35 min left in the oven. Thank you 😊🤗🫓
WOW! Chicken pot pie is our favourite, my kids could eat it every day -( if I let them! ), - your video popped up and, you make it look so easy to do! The pie crust is my only hurdle, but your recipe looks do-able, so now I have no excuses, so tomorrow is pie day! Thank you!
Out of all the videos I've seen on UA-cam, specifically for Chicken Pot Pie, this is THE ONE that I will be making. Thank you so much! I love the simplicity of your video and the instruction. Simple and to the point! I can't wait to finally make one from scratch!
Bro, love your recipes! So easy! You always remember to incorporate the little details that make everything turn out; like, " I didn't even watch a UA-cam video for this, it's my Grandma's recipe." Keep up the great work!
Im not a big pea person but I do like frozen peas - they are like fresh they stay firmer. I also like making the crust on top only like Marie Calendar - less cooking time, no soggy bottom

I’ve been wondering about a fantastic chicken pot pie recipe that blows my friend’s out of the water and THANK GOODNESS FOR YOU! I can’t wait to make this to have her chomping at the bit as to where I got mine from! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
An all-around crust! I commend you. So many people don't do that.
Thank you 😊🤗🫓
This was so easy and the best chicken pot pie I’ve ever had
Just made your recipe with a few modifications, but Oh My God... What a pie... what a crust
You are one of my favorite food UA-camrs and I’m also a Virgo sending you so much love to you and your family
Put your cook book in my Amazon cart

This was a huge hit when I served it to my company. Even my husband loved it. I have printed the recipe for future dinner parties. Thanks John.
I used this recipe (with my own crust recipe) and it turned out wonderful!

Chicken pot pie is our favourite, my kids could eat it every day -( if I let them! ), -

The pie crust is my only hurdle, but your recipe looks do-able, so now I have no excuses, so tomorrow is pie day!

Out of all the videos I've seen on UA-cam, specifically for Chicken Pot Pie, this is THE ONE that I will be making. Thank you so much! I love the simplicity of your video and the instruction. Simple and to the point! I can't wait to finally make one from scratch!

Okay so you know that I want some chicken pot pie 🥧!! Hungry!!
It’s been a couple years and I still come back to this video to cook for my wife!
Bro, love your recipes! So easy!
You always remember to
incorporate the little details that make everything turn out; like, " I didn't even watch a UA-cam video for this, it's my Grandma's recipe."
Keep up the great work!
This is comfort food wearing a winter coat.😊
Im not a big pea person but I do like frozen peas - they are like fresh they stay firmer. I also like making the crust on top only like Marie Calendar - less cooking time, no soggy bottom
