I worked as an usher at Jacobs Field from 2002-2003. This song was always played after a Cleveland Indians loss as the fans were walking out of the stadium.
Ever since I borrowed my college roommate’s I. D. at 17 to see Todd on his “Back to the Bars” tour, he’s been my musical hero. (Todd’s early show performance, backed by Utopia on this particular stop in Georgetown MD, blew my friends and me away so much that we bought tickets from a scalper on the sidewalk outside and turned right around to attend the late show.)
I hear this album for the first time in 50 years and it's always genious and so special. Everything is in place and wonderfull production. One of the best album of all time in America.
I have just listened to this brilliant album for the first time. I agree with its author that it is a watershed. I have also read some of the critical articles that came out in 1973, when it appeared. It is true that the first side is very unlike the things being recorded at the time. But from the perspective of two generations, it seems far ahead of its time. One critic says there are only three songs on it, and by the standards of the day, that is true. But I respond: who cares? Who should care?

Congratulations Brother! It's something I sturuggle with daily, and I'm glad to hear of your success! It's inspiring, and I wish for your continued sobriety.
I, also have been playing this amazingly powerful song on repeat as part of my recently embarked upon recovery process (dire mental health issues). It’s long been my very favorite song by my favorite performer since I borrowed my college roommate’s I.D. at 17 to go see the “Hello It’s Me” and “I Saw the Light” guy during his Back to the Bars tour in ‘78. The early set blew my flippin’ mind so hard that me and my two friends bought tickets from a scalper and turned right around to see the late show/set. It sounds like we are near contemporaries. My journey to sobriety has led me to being free from my drug addictions and alcoholism for nearly 24 years now. The “bottom” of my multi-decade substance abuse was obviously a much softer crash than yours and it is with a grateful heart that the first couple lines of your post caught my eye and provoked my interest after playing this exact video s-o-o many times including for other people who share our struggles. (It’s fascinating the overlap of addiction issues and mental health issues including treatments and relapse prevention etc.) I hope you can take heart from my recovery, that it IS indeed possible Just One Victory at a time, successively , every waking second of every day, Brother Toby. Dan
Way to go, Toby, & Way to Say, too. You're a Miracle & You're Surviving Yourself. Wow. So powerfully said & powerfully being lived. All God's great goodness upon you, in Victory! Thank you for sharing your miraculous life. Jill
Saw him this year on the Individualist tour. Gifted and great - as ever. I don't see myself as the kind of person who feels deeply about anyone I don't know personally - but that doesn't seem to hold true for TR. What a gift. This album is as close to perfect as I ever need to hear. Thank you for posting it.
Classic rock stations just ran Hello It's Me in the ground ( don't get me wrong It's a great track and one of my favorites) when radioio 70"s was online in early 2000 host Tom Mehan would play the deep tracks that underground radio once did and this track ( as well as the funky track Sunburst) was played on his radioio station and man i was floored and even after hearing him play Sunburst that was kool as well it was just as funky as some folks are even whiter ( which was on the Hello It's Me album. )
Oh, Todd, what an inspirational musician, producer of my times - your chosen key sat well with me & Ive admired your work for almost half a century now - you’re music has seen me thru’ quite a journey. Thank you, Jane
Congratulations Todd Rundgren! You've been waiting so long. WELCOME to the 2021 Class inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Genuinely, "A Wizard, A True Star"!
If you are going to do videos like this GET THE LYRICS RIGHT. You have added a verse which does not exist, and cut off the lyrics before the end of the song. You have done Todd AND his fans an injustice.

Todd really knows how to close an album, this track is a piece of art. Same thing with "Sons of 1984".
all it takes is one victory
This was the last song played at my wedding reception by the DJ, my request of course. Wedding est. 1994.
That is so Cool!

I know Toddy-boy was on the pharmaceuticals when he did this album, but a lot of it is too self-indulgent regardless... This is a great song though.
Side one is basically sonic doodling with far more ideas than most bands have in a lifetime
people are critics, because they are NOT Artists

Bought this album in 1974... with money I didn't have ... because it was SO good.
Thank you, True Wizard, for this sweet song of victory.
Great album, by the way.

A fitting finale to this very fine album.
The ending of this song gives off the same sensation of waking up from a really good dream.
