@@dongster529 i haven't playing WoW since forever, but i'm guessing there isnt much you can do to RP in the game? At least nothing that can get so elaborate or in higher scale
The real, functioning Gil economy is so funny to me. I had a friend who worked an actual job in FXIV, with a schedule and everything, and got paid in Gil. I think it’s also worth noting that this job was as a server in a maid cafe (the wonder of online anonymity). He desperately needed some extra Gil so he begrudgingly took up the job. Sometimes they would have company meetings in discord where they had to speak. All the other servers were mostly real girls, except him and one other dude that awkwardly sat in silence and only spoke when they had to lol
Asmon is basically the rookie journalist who thought he was just investigating a niche thing that turned out to be the biggest story of the year exposing a whole underground industry and won a Pulitzer for it.
😂Yeah, its funny when you look at the line like that, but you know this is a videogame so not everything you see is actually real, most building in other games are there just to show up.
@@falseshepherd-490 Correction: "Literal" means not speaking figuratively, or metaphorically, or hyperbolically, etc. There is no metaphor or hyperbole in saying it is a "literal" house. It is not *metaphorically* a house. It is not *hyperbolically* a house. It is literally a house. The word you're thinking of is probably something along the lines of "physical" or "real".
Asmond should buy a house, then have somebody decorate it for him like his own house. Then he start every stream from that room and its would be the best transition from real life to video game ever.
Bro the RP side of the game is fkin insane. My friend showed me a player house built like a cafe on the first floor. They open every thursday and serve all the food in the game with actual players rp'ing as waiters and that's 1 of the ways they make money for themselves. Then the second floor is a gambling ring with players rolling dices and betting millions of gil
An old FC mate got offered three million gil for one ERP session. THREE MILLION. She told us in the context of how outraged and horrified she was. So, as everyone tried to console her, I became the badguy for saying it seemed like a good deal.
I think some of Asmon's best content, is when he involves the community. I also love his interviews with the players. He did this in WoW, when he interviewed an ERPr from WoW. He could honestly do a documentary about this.
This is the first time I heard of in a game and the immersion Final Fantasy allows to be able to run this is just literally mind-blowing. I bet many of us are speechless with the scale of this operation. This is amazing.
It blew my mind, i fucking love it. This people are playing a night club economic management game inside a game about dragons and shit. Is nutts and i fucking love it.

I'm so happy that housing was touched in this video. That's the aspect of the game I'm most passionate about. It's crazy what you can do in this game with housing. I'm a decorator in FFXIV and I'm known for whimsical designs. I'd love to invite Asmongold on a tour of my stuff some time if he's interested and talk about the decorating community, as well as the ins and outs of decorating if he's interested.
Side note: of course crafting is for armor and weapons and food and stuff. But you can also craft things for your house, further making crafting constantly viable. Carpenters can make tables and chairs, blacksmiths can make metal props for the house, etc. It’s such a deep system that helps multiple other systems in the game.
Crafting is like the lifeblood of this game, glamour, housing, it also facilitates world first clears in most circumstances. I wish other MMO's had life skilling as good as this, in wow its so garbage the only reason you would do it is for RP
The other important thing is that anything used in a house can no longer be traded. So anything removed from the system must be replaced by new crafting. And housing pieces used in the advanced placement and building processes are always in demand because they get "used up" during decoration. You can make decent money on those.
@@Draconic74 Right. And it takes many many pieces of things like wardrobes, backs of bookcases, pieces of walls to create complex designs. Many of these now old furniture pieces are continually relevant. And as you point out are not reusable. So there is continual demand. Anyone who crafts should at least buy an FC room or apartment until they can find a house, as it opens up a world of crafting and market possibilities. And its ridiculously fun.
I saw a dude on an ocean fishing trip in my server that hired 2 escorts to be on the boat with him while he fishes and just emoted on him the whole time. They were like rubbing his back and cheering him on. People sometimes just pay for a friend or some company.
That is so awesome that theres a place for people to meet up and work out your "kinks" here first before you do them IRL... not only that it gives people that might be too afraid in real life to try it in the virtual world to see how it works... honestly there needs to be more communities like this... this is great keep up the good work
@@optikjoe985 people have been text ERP'ing since the dawn of the internet. Having virtual cafe's/lounges with all the benefits and none of the risks sounds like a good deal.
As a new player I fell down a rabbit hole looking through Party Finder and finding all the RP venues. You can find non ERP places that are actually pretty fun to hangout in. Oddly enough, I'm pretty sure I ran into Void Bunny in a venue before, so this is pretty funny to watch.
This was super surreal as someone who fell back into the RP crowd by helping a friend run their venue. Even with the names turned off I recognized some people and saw names in the guestbooks I know. The RP community isn't small, but our DC has some regulars you see all the time and everywhere.
@@NerdlySquared There's also a Laundromat venue with an illegal bar in the basement. These are wild. Lot of creative venues outside the typical nightclub.
On Balmung, at least during the HW and early SB times, there was a house belonging to a brothel themed FC which had an SFW rp event evening each month. SFW performances on stage, usually with links to youtube or soundcloud posted in the event specific voicechat. And if you felt like it, no coercion or active hitting on visitors, you could STILL negotiate a few hours of fun with a partner, in their in-house FC room.
You can hold whatever opinion you want about RP, but this is the kind of stuff that turns MMOs from games into virtual worlds. I feel like so many games in the genre miss that extremely important point And this is just one of the player driven evolutions of the systems in the game. From people working as designers, to crafters making furniture, there is so much community involvement in all aspects of this. It doesn't even have to be about RP, it's just an aspect of it. I've seen player made pubs, arcades, etc where people just hang out, meet, play Triple triad or minigames, etc. At the end of the day, the community is what makes MMOs special from the rest. Player driven content is endless, engaging and gives a lot of life to what otherwise could just be considered a big online lobby
and its this kind of stuff that give groomers a chance to hook some gullible kids. Are they checking IDs? Are they vetting any of their "erp" workers? Something tells me no and that should scare you. Consenting adults should be able to do whatever they want, but 99% of these "ERP" cafes/clubs/studios have ZERO protections and accountability which is ESPECIALLY dangerous online where a person is not physically present to confirm their identity.
@@davidlazerz8564 These clubs and experiences are quite out of the way from the normal game, to the point that a chunk of the playerbase doesn't even know of their existence. It's extremely unlikely for a kid to just wander inside one of them, and even less likely that groomers would be lying in wait in places like that. If anything the issues you're describing are problems with gaming in general. Games like Minecraft or Fortnite that specifically target a young demographic are incredibly more dangerous and vulnerable to groomers than FFXIV or most other MMOs could ever be, even without established and organized ERP hangouts.
@@davidlazerz8564 In the first place, does kids even have the money to buy $60 games and having to pay subscription every month? That's a lot of money for kids, even on first world country.
This seems strange but its a thriving community that seems happy. Its really nice to have a game where you can wander around and do random stuff. I used to enjoy exploring in WoW, going from area to area as I leveled and picking up quests. WoW feels like a single player game now and its just a horrible grind.
Wow is not a single player game, it’s mostly about raiding and mythics and pvp, unless you’re actively avoiding doing social stuff I can’t see how a statement like yours would ring true
I love how amazed you are at player housing. I played galaxies from launch to close, best player housing ever. I always get a kick out of new gen gamers impressed with game mechanics we saw as normal in 2003.
Its interesting watching his opinions change of the game. During the Jesse cox video he was concerned about how could this kind of stuff possibly be end game. Here he is now saying he's hoping they go even harder down this line of gameplay in the future.
Wait, wait, wait. The most surprising thing about this entire interview is that Square has GM's that actually respond to tickets in a timely manner and will help the player(s) out?!
Yep, dude even says during the interview that since they can't ban people from the house, if someone is harassing people/being disrespectful they just all report them and a GM takes care of it. I think when Blizzrd fired those 400+ employees awhile ago, they got rid of all the people in charge of doing that stuff.

I heard of it only recently, but this is like end - end - end game content! xD Also note: this is erp its not actively advertised at the current time since it slightly bends existing rules.
It all depends. I'm on Light and the erp is just part of the underworld - people go to the nightclubs to actually meet, listen to music, chill, socialize. Nothing even bit nsfw can go on public chat, and there's strict rules to it all. But first of all, erp is NOT cybersex. You're not paying to get laid with someone, or even their character - but for them to weave you an artwork of your preference. Think of it as paying someoe to draw you a nsfw fanart within your tastes, or writting a piece of fiction for you to enjoy. Doesn't matter who paints it, as long as it portrays what you secretly want to see. Though, of course i will prefer a man playing male catboy, so the wordcraft of is more genuine. And even on Light there's few places - mostly german owned - that are shallow and tacky. Hardly enjoyable.
Well I'm on Tonberry, the Japanese and Asian server, so I think if ERP exists here it must be really hidden. I'm not very social in the game, the most social I get is during raids, otherwise I'm just doing MSQ and crafting so this is definitely cool to learn about.
I've never erp'd and never will, but I'm really glad asmon didn't just make a joke out of the guy. He genuinely heard Void Bunny out and learned a lot because of it. Different strokes for different folks and I'm glad Final Fantasy provides the tools for players to express themselves regardless of how they choose to do so.
It's nice seeing a positive take on the community. There are even really cool places like The Rat Hole and there's another cool venue that changes every week or so, like the Haunted Ihop or Apple Store, (both the rat hole and these places are run by the same guy) and it's just so involved and amazing.
I once go to a RP housing that's filled with lalafel and the theme is that they're orphans and the caretaker just left for groceries so they invited everyone to party in the basements, until the caretaker came home and we all ran out of there ahahahahha.

Mind blown, this is way more in depth and cooler than I thought from the title. The rp options available in this game are amazing. When I have time to mmo game again this is the game I'm going to play.
I have over 600 hours in Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) and we have a different version of this. You can own multiple homes in in-game maps and even have visitors in your home but it's not as sophisticated as this where people vie for a home and compete for limited spacing in neighborhoods. Also, character customization in terms of your character/avatar and their "mount" is rich and it's one of the things I'm into about ESO. It is different, though, compared to Final Fantasy from what I'm seeing here. Both are fantasy-based, but ESO is more serious-fantasy vs Final Fantasy's fantasy-fantasy. You wouldn't see a gorilla mount or even a vehicle mount in ESO. And I feel like Final Fantasy is more laid back and kink-friendly whereas ESO is more serious with the actual game and developer content. One's not better than the other, but it's an observation.
Despite months of playing, I didn't check out housing yet because I was too busy fishing but good lord housing was this intricate? There's so much stuff in this game that I don't even know about yet lol. The stream Asmon did today was honestly probably one of my favorites so far

I don't know, as a frequent ERPer in VRChat I beg to say VRChat is on a whole other level. This is absolutely fascinating to see this level of entrepreneurship in a MMO. I remember when erp'ing first came into the mmo scene in Everquest and Ultima Online but never to this degree and waaay less people. Shows how far we've come for people to lose any sense of shame or morales.

Years ago, I played Star Wars Galaxies online. The game was set up in such a way that one could run a whole city. We had our own Jedi Temple, Navy, vendors.. ex..ex.. Loved it. We RP'd hard core. Had a Jedi council. Too many people are too interested in PvP rather than building good communities.

I know everyone is having a good chuckle at the erp element, but really there is a huge community for normal rp as well. I have met some incredibly talented writers in my time on Mateus who have become good friends outside of the game. Very interesting Interview actually. Im playing mmos for about 17 years now and im rping for the same amount of time. It's awesome how much that adds to a game and how many people you get to know like this. I have never been part of a nightclub or something (i didnt rp much in ffx14) but its crazy that it exists with such a big community. The biggest things i was ever part of were for example: in one Game i was the official Bard of a Tavern ( game had a Music System) where i played live Music and wrote Poems, told storys, started Riddle-Night Events and stuff like this. And in another game i was a main-Instructor for a full rp City-guard. And well, i can see why people wouldnt care much for the real life-gender, or more the real-life person behind the character with something like..this here, because you get so invested and immersed into the game-world if you are full rping, that you dont even think about this at all. Also, as a Story writer i have to be able to write down and creat emotions and perspectives of characters from different genders so i can see how a dude can rp a Girl... buuut... In a case like here with this erp stuff, i dont know, arent most of them like.. legally playable at the age of 12 or 16 or something? I would be worried that people that are a bit too young for interactions like these sneak their ways into this. I mean you cant really check someones ID at the entrance right? xD But anyway, very interesting insight in a community that i wasnt aware of
I'm a 58 year old grandpa , play a male in the game, and get paid 100k gil an hour to put on exotic dance performances in people's houses and clubs lol. Of course, my performances are more than just standing there dancing. Many costume changes, minions popping in and out, weapons appearing and disappearing. It's quite involved and people pay for 'different'
So this game has made me realize (in addition to guild wars 2) that WoW has been a giant scam. Cant believe I paid $15 a month for so long for basically nothing compared to this. There’s no good reason there can’t be housing in WoW. This is so cool
I've never played 14 and I'm more glad today that i didn't after watching this. Crazy what's in this game now. Final fantasy was clean back in my day, and now im old enough to say it that way.
This actually sounds like fun, hanging out in a club dancing without having to endure the smell and the ear-smashing music... Also: when will we see Asmon try ERP? Final Fantasy seems to have a lot more of The Sims then players would ever admit.
We'll get him on Primal later on. Just don't expect it streamed. FAIRLY SURE Twitch would take him out infront of the Giant TV the world watches...and gut him alive for that one
Honestly FF14 is really good as an mmorpg because it let's you do anything you want at your own pace, doesn't overwhelm you with information and predatory microtransactions, the story is really good (most of the time) and has a robust non-combat system
I work at a venue as a photographer and its all super professional at my venue. Overall, it's one of the better gil sinks in the game. Once you get to the end game there is only so much you can use gil on. So why not? As a photographer i actually don't do anything erp related. I just take photos of people in the venue! It's a big community and it really is respectful 99.9% of the time!
“They don’t care if they’re a dood?” That’s not the point of RP, the point is to 100% be immersed into the characters. You are pretending you are your in game counter parts. Just like I’m not a 7ft black buff Roe irl. If you are erp-ing to pick up an irl girlfriend, you’re doing it wrong.
eyoo, someone who understand the true spirit of RP, much like DnD, but a bit "more" when it comes to erp. I'm androgynous, when I was active in theatric at highschool I often got rolled as a female because of it and its a lot of fun and suuuper challenging, to be a good RPer or ERPer is damn hard, the creativity that goes into an RP/ERP is pretty mind boggling if its a reaaaally good one and well constructed. I tried paying for erp once, and since I want a good one, I pay 4 times the gil, gave the person 1 week to construct a good story where my character was cheated and divorced soon after by my imaginary wife and the ERPer is my character chilhood friend, so from seeking comfort to a broken heart turns into something steamy-ish romance. Holly crap it was an insanely good story and the dialogue hits deep man. What zepla said is true not all rp are erotic same as erp, some reaaaally good and creative ones can whip out a good steamy romance erp, granted most people who seeks erp are into erotic/pure smut.

Best line I heard this week.
I wish other MMO's had life skilling as good as this, in wow its so garbage the only reason you would do it is for RP
crafting is so addicting in FFXIV I have 2 fully leveled omnicrafters lol
The other important thing is that anything used in a house can no longer be traded. So anything removed from the system must be replaced by new crafting. And housing pieces used in the advanced placement and building processes are always in demand because they get "used up" during decoration. You can make decent money on those.
@@Draconic74 Right. And it takes many many pieces of things like wardrobes, backs of bookcases, pieces of walls to create complex designs. Many of these now old furniture pieces are continually relevant. And as you point out are not reusable. So there is continual demand.
As a player who is in it for the great stories and adventures, I feel like a fish in a bowl unaware of the ocean.
You can hold whatever opinion you want about RP, but this is the kind of stuff that turns MMOs from games into virtual worlds. I feel like so many games in the genre miss that extremely important point
And this is just one of the player driven evolutions of the systems in the game.
This is actually, genuinely fascinating.
I'm not sure if any game has done this before. This is such a new experience, and games have yet to show such an integration into the real world.
FYI: Apartments are not demolished with inactivity. Only houses. Also, don't forget, there are dozens of different districts and subdivisions, each with their own houses and apartments.
And a new area coming in 6.1, and i believe a fairer lottery system very soon
@@sheiks65 Yeah, that should be the Firmament in Ishgard. I've done some of the quests to get it set up.
@@StormsparkPegasus Building the firmament was one of the coolest ways to get our housing area. I hope they do that for future housing. Was amazing to see everyone working together to get it done.
Many moons ago in Lotro the housing communities had it were you could allow anyone into your estate or just friends or no one.
It was a setting....I would imagine the houses you entered were set to allow you to do so....I mean...why make such a beautiful interior if no one can see your hard work, right?
I dont miss mmo's all that much but I will always feel fondly for those that had the real effort put forth into the extras like housing communities etc.
It was something you could put your mountain of $$ towards once you were end game for many of us.
Every mmo should have be required to have such an option..it only makes it better imo.
This was a really cool vid, ty for doing it!
People like to express themselves wether it be through badass or sexy glamour or some creative use of emotes. People wanne be able to live out their fantasy and i think ff14 provides those tools and thats why so many people like it.
If only the character creator was better
@@Exel3nce I agree but atleast i havent seen exact copies of characters yet so atleast you can make something unique looking.
@@oumashu8390 cmon, everyone who has the exact same face of cat garbage already looks teh same , especially if halfnaked^^
@@Exel3nce I mean EXACTLY the same with the same jaw, eye shape, hairstyle, eyebrows, Nose, mouth, skin color, hair color, eye color, make up, scars, facial hair, tattoos, tattoo color, lip color, etc.
There alot of characters that look similar but not 100% copies. The character creator needs more options though for sure. Dont know how they'd do it with the body shape though becaus they would have to make sure all armor sets fit all different types of bodies you can create or they would have to stretch the armor wich would make it looks like shit. I think i would rather have good looking armor then thicker thighs how much it might hurt me to say that.
They could start by allowing you to have multiple types of make up on at once becaus its kinda weird that you cant have blush becaus you already have freckles. Also more saturated colors for your hair and eyes. Make makeup, scars, beauty marks and tattoos moveable. Let us choose what horns we want on what facial preset for Au'ra and just add more facial presets and let all races have muscle sliders not just a select few. Just add more of everything we already have.
@@oumashu8390 the fact that ff14 has such a big factor in roleplay, fantasia usage, the characters Overall are just shallow. Even if you have a different hairstyle or color, the face shape and Body make it look like everyone has the same look. (Especially for the cat garbage race and potatos
the materia melding icon was what RPers used before we got the actual RP icon that we could use, which was more recent, which is why people use still use it.
I guess its that + the fact that it makes you easily identifiable because noone uses that specific icon anymore outside of RP.
Second Life was doing this a decade ago. Everyone had their own island or house. Dungeons for BDSM. All sorts of cages, equipment. Immersive.
Asmon is very open minded about all of this what makes it so enjoyable to watch. You're the man Asmon.
I find this kind of immersion so much fun, i dont part take in it, but i love a game with layers and those layers being build, managed and run by gamers? Is amazing and i love it.
For the love of god, this dude invested in a NIGHT CLUB, has bouncers, staff, pays salaries, organize thematic parties. He is playing Night Club Sim inside another Game, fucking ANARCHY.
Nice to see all these people enjoying some Enterprise Resource Planning in their spare time. Good for them!
What an awesome interview, I been playing the game for years and wasn’t aware of how sophisticated this underground subculture really was. I was aware about town dancers and vanity armor collection but never this. I am totally amazed! What an awesome game!
I know everyone is having a good chuckle at the erp element, but really there is a huge community for normal rp as well. I have met some incredibly talented writers in my time on Mateus who have become good friends outside of the game. We all have these intricate, detailed characters that we've created a life for within the game world. If you enjoy creative writing, what have you got to lose? Give it a shot. You're either gonna love it or it's not gonna be for you. :)
Heck even if they aren't into character immersion, there are also those RP food and breverage places that can be a really comfy atmosphere to bring your friends and chat and chill there.
I'm just new to the game and I hope that scratches the itch that tinierme left me when they suddenly closed down.
If you don't mind me asking, how do you even get started with rp?
I feel like ff14 stole all the weirdest people from other MMOs... Makes me want to quit

@SaiyanPride But is it ok to pick up girls in the Dungeons?
Lol I didn't RP but I used to hangout in stormwind and ironforge as a tank for hire years ago. Had a price chart by instance lol. Had a healer who would run with me from time to time and we'd split the money. DPS players bought me my epic mount lol.

I mean you cant really check someones ID at the entrance right? xD
But anyway, very interesting insight in a community that i wasnt aware of
I'm a 58 year old grandpa , play a male in the game, and get paid 100k gil an hour to put on exotic dance performances in people's houses and clubs lol. @@JannetFenix what music do they play? In game BGM from orchestrion or something, or music from outside the game?
Honestly FF14 is really good as an mmorpg because it let's you do anything you want at your own pace, doesn't overwhelm you with information and predatory microtransactions, the story is really good (most of the time) and has a robust non-combat system
I work at a venue as a photographer and its all super professional at my venue. Overall, it's one of the better gil sinks in the game. Once you get to the end game there is only so much you can use gil on. So why not? As a photographer i actually don't do anything erp related. I just take photos of people in the venue! It's a big community and it really is respectful 99.9% of the time!
“They don’t care if they’re a dood?”
That’s not the point of RP, the point is to 100% be immersed into the characters. You are pretending you are your in game counter parts. Just like I’m not a 7ft black buff Roe irl. If you are erp-ing to pick up an irl girlfriend, you’re doing it wrong.
@@richardshiflett5181 lol
eyoo, someone who understand the true spirit of RP, much like DnD, but a bit "more" when it comes to erp.

For the housing, there are quite a few glitches that people use to do amazing houses. They don't need add-ons to actually make the house look like that.
If anyone is wondering, the SE team does know about the glitches, but, for the community, they won't fix them. This way, players can continue making these designs. There are only a couple of glitches that the devs ask the designers to not use.
Do you know about any of these glitches ? i'm curious what's or what's not allowed
@@AvelineMelena There are a lot of videos that show you how to do the okayed glitchs. To name off the 2 biggest ones, the storage place glitch and the floating tabletop or wall item glitch. Just knowing those 2 will enhance your build.
The 2 main glitches that the devs have asked for players to not do are the overlapping of aquariums and showcases and the glitch to force a player out of bounds. The housing community is very protective of that information.
@@ashaatarins9273 Understood, thank you for your answer.
