Democracy Unplugged : Douglas Murray, JJ Tabane and Gareth Cliff

- The very different worlds of Douglas Murray, Professor Ongopotse JJ Tabane and Gareth Cliff come together for this conversation to find common ground on important matters like corruption, international credibility and leadership. The conversation also led to disagreement on some issues with overall respect for open dialogue and critical thinking we would all like to see more of.
Douglas Murray is the best-selling author of several seminal works about the seismic changes in European affairs and Western Civilization and an insightful speaker on many of the most controversial issues of the moment. He is a lightning-rod for the most important (and often divisive) matters of public interest, including Israel vs Gaza; trans rights in America; racial politics; free speech and international relations. Professor JJ Tabane (host of “Power to Truth” on eNCA) and Gareth Cliff (co-founder of CliffCentral and Podcast Party ) are both seasoned radio and television personalities known for their unapologetic commentary.
Podcast Party is an online content hub where open dialogue and critical thinking are encouraged - where great minds don’t all think alike. Subscribe to our UA-cam channel and follow on social media @PodcastPartySA
Tired of this ANC corrupt government.
The danger of democracy is when the fools are the majority of the population.
The commentary he gave on sky news Australia about SA was very Fair. He didn't try to bash SA in anyway. He just stated facts and he has my respect.
Douglas sticks to the truth, even when’s it’s uncomfortable for many to hear it.
He is pro Israel, I didn't like his racist dog whistles. Nothing fair comes from that Sky Australia, they are worst than fox news.
U r so naive...look at the bigger picture
@@PopBeerCan-rm6go You mean that he is being used? He might be but he also criticises everyone, damn he also said Australia has problems.
I didn't detect a lie and he didn't come up with stories of boer genocide like Katie Holmes or whatever her name is.
Big up JJ Tabane great job
Gareth, thank you for bringing intelligent conversation to South Africa.
What a pleasure to have such an intellectual giant visit our country
To be honest, the average South African or someone in the rural areas don't know who he is.
And what is your point...
Meaning giant or no giant it does not make a difference to a person in the rural areas
@@buzzzlightyear11y2 I’d say, then why is he here? The vast majority don’t give a toss about his opinions or whether he’s a so-called “intellectual giant” or not. What good is he going to do anyone anywhere in this country. He’s on a huge ego trip.
So let's just give up to idiots.. @@dingtonia
I have allot of respect for Douglas Murray. His assessment of SA is 💯 correct and fair.
Douglas Murray is and always will be a bloody LEGEND!! 🤟
😴
Douglas you many red bulls do you have to swallow to make it through these shows
Sorry broo
To racists.
He is defending a genocide act.
@@pettycashentertainment1380you obviously haven't read Hamas or PLO Charters, have you?
The Douglas Murray and JJ Tabane combination was terrific🔥🔥🔥. It made me really think about things as a young person. I studied in a few countries and nothing is better than South Africa. Thank you to Gareth Cliff for this Podcast.
Brilliant interview !! Wonderful to listen to such broadminded opinions. Knew immediately there was something nefarious going on when the ANC went to the ICJ!!
Welcome to this exclusive panel discussion with Douglas Murray, Gareth Cliff and JJ Tabane. Thank you Douglas for visiting South Africa at this interesting time both here and in the world. And thanks to all watching this broadcast. More great content to come!
Douglas Murray, one of my favourite academics to listen to.
Is he an academic?
@@AndrewMcFarlane_1 I would say so.
He isn’t. He just spouts his mouth off in a smug, sneering way.
@@dingtonia how does that make you feel?
@@dingtonia He does come across that way, but I have followed him for a few years and happen to like him. We can beg to differ. I think Jordan Peterson is also not easy to listen to but has a brilliant mind.
Welcome to South Africa, Douglas Murray. By the time I am writing this post you will be already gone. You are an amazing human being and I do not miss any of your presentations. As you can see South Africa is a country with many different faces and cultures. If we could forget about its violent crime, which reigns day and night, I would call it paradise, but unfortunately not. I thank to your host, a well known personality in this country, for having you in his show. Please come again.
Thank you for coming to South Africa Douglas it's always a pleasure to listen to you. Good questions asked from the floor. Interesting debate.
I love ❤ the distinctions Douglas offer our culture.
I would love to see a debate with Douglas and Madam Neledi Pandor.
He would drag her in bright day light..
Shame that would be so harsh on the good Minister. Like throwing the sheep to the wolf.
O my word he wil leave her crying
She will leave crying
She will not agree to the interview her excuse wil be she dont talk to racists
I love Douglas, he is very very smart and has seen countless conflicts. I would heed his words because he knows what he is talking about.
What an excellent interview! Thoroughly enjoyed it. We need to get these kind of discussions out there, so that woke lefties masquerading as politicians, social activists and other lunatics, can see how it should be done!
Ag please Douglas is a free agent to the highest bidder who is the Israeli lobby at the moment . 😅
Absolutely superb .... thanks guys ...profound
Ah now you talking my language JJ. The racism we see is on social media from a small part of people in SA. I don't see it on our streets, I do see it in politics ANC and social media only. Our people here are more interested in surviving and helping each other to survive the and than hating each other. We leave the hate to our pathetic non leaders
This gives me hope for our country. These kinds of honest discussions about issues are sorely needed for ZA to move forward as a united nation.
Sound is terrible guys. Please tell the sound engineer!
Someone was sniffing constantly. I couldn't listen to it anymore.
I agree about the person sniffing, which was revolting, but overall I thought the sound was good.
Yes please, let's be professional
@@jonwhelan2333 that's douglas murray, breathing.
Douglas is another member of our household herei
In Port ElizabethSouth Africa. Wonderful to have you in our beleaguered country. A VOICE OF REASON AND TRUTH
Ag please
JJ is 100% right about the youth having "useless" degrees. In the past you were told there are 3/4 options because that is what the market needs. Now people got to uni just to get the prestige of saying they have a degree but where exactly does that get them??
Amazing!!
Well done Gareth and team. More content like this please :)
As a South African who appreciates Douglas, this was very cool.
This is such a fascinating discussion! Absolutely necessary, and very rarely held too! Didn't know Douglas Murray until today but i have respect for him for how he backs his POV and isnt afraid to share it
More of these kinds of discussions are needed.
Love it ! Thank you Podcast party for this podcast.
A great combination of intellect & thoughtfulness. Worth every moment listening to the views of the guests. Lots to chew on & consider. Brought a lot of clarity to my thinking processes.
Very very interesting indeed. Never come across JJ Tabane before. Great to get to know of him and his views. Douglas always knows his facts and history.
This was good dialog between 2 respectable persons not like the interview with Jane Dutton who spewed lies for lack of knowledge.
Thanks to Gareth for doing this podcast.
Op at 57 m is on the mark . I think he left out that ANC used Israel to help them make a grab for the Western-Cape.
Apartheid ended because everyone was tired ... Northern Ireland ended because everyone is tired ... Hamas/Iran are not tired
So how did the hospitals operate so well pre 1994. There were enough doctors and medicines. Enough blankets and sheets. Enough nurses. Baragwanath was world renound. Proof of corruption was never provided pre 94. If you accuse, prove it.
As a white nurse we worked and trained in black hospitals, the way they were run was amazing compared to how they are run now. The white staff treated the black patients with dignity I witnessed this myself. Such a pity that the black people cant witness that now.
There was corruption even during Apartheid, it's just the Animal Farm under the stewardship of the pigs had altered the global standard of theft from a 25-75 to a 75-25 if you understand what am saying and a huge moral decline of cause it has affected the public sector.
Good luck to anyone thinking they can intellectually corner Douglas he will humiliate his opponents , especially when it comes to the Israeli Palestine conflict.
He doesnt stand a chance against Norm Finkelstein. He is also a sore loser
How do you know this ? Please send video link.
@@paulamarsh1 Murray is too scared to debate with Norm. Instead calling him all sorts of names. What a cop out
Douglas is a paid stooge of Israel . I promise you , Cliff as well . Both are propagandists for Israel They are probably being paid now to try and make sure the bothersome ( for Israel's genocide ) ANC loose ...
Finkelstein is so fake and an attention seeker.. Douglas has buried him over and over again with facts! @@moemotala6758
Thanks folks!
The African man in the green shirt - spot on!
Theyre all African you know…
Expected more from the professor..he did not carry and present himself as an academic. Also do you research with who you are speaking with. He hardly new anything about Douglas Murray views coming into this discussion
Optimism and hard work 🎉 thank you all of you 👍
JJ Sir amazing speaker.AMEN AMEN🕎🙏💞
10 seconds in and allready know im gonna love this
Yes there are members of Hamas in CT. Thank you!
Douglas Murray 🙏🏼❤️🔥XOXOXO
He is a big DOOS
I enjoyed this discussion so much. So many great points raised, so much to think about and look into critically. Great panel, wide contributions. Can't wait for the next next one, hopefully with better production quality.
JJ's closing argument was so spot on!
This made me want to learn a lot more about SA. Thank you for an enlightening discussion.
Watching this reminds me of the MASSIVE gap in intelligence between not just your average South African civilian but our "intellectuals".
The "Professor" kept trying to make comparisons between hamas and white people during apartheid even though its obvious to a teenager that all white people did not have a religious and personal need to completely genocide and murder all black people (which hamas has towards jews) as the two are incomparable on a fundamental level, in general which shows a lack of depth, he paints with broad strokes that miss the nature of reality. Douglas handled him well, like talking to a child.
Totally AGREE 💯💯💯💯
Well done once again Gareth
Douglas Murray. Good man
What about the atrocities happening right in our nation!
I love Douglas
Thank you!!! Yes, what about the terrible things happening in other places in the world. Why so much attention on the Palestine issue.
unfortunately countries like the UK have a large immigrant Muslim populations who over inflate the issue on the basis of attracting attention and to subdue our British culture, values and democracy. They are not interested in democracy and liberalism, they are interested in Islamism and Sharia law.
Excellent! Douglas shines as always as an intellectual giant and, JJ grew on me as the discussion progressed. Thanks Gareth.
I couldn't continue watching due to the main guest being spoken over, interrupted and preached to. Embarrassing. Even questions posed were rudely interupted and subjects diverted. Douglas was very polite and eloquent about it though.
Real per capita PPP GDP in South Africa declined 32% between 1991 and 2023 if we use the US GDP implicit price deflator. If we use the US CPI index the drop was even larger. What has gone wrong in South Africa?
What has gone wrong with the South African education system in recent decades? South Africa now has one of the worst education systems in all of Africa. And is worse than the Somali education system.
There are 50 major wars in the world right now; about half of which are in Africa. What is South Africa doing to try to contain these many wars?
Nothing, because ANC is not getting any money from them..but Hamas lined their pockets ! 🤑
Exactly 💯💯💯💯 They can't even keep the citizens of South Africa safe and healthy 🤔🙃😥
Well informed ....very smart ....and worth listening to.....
As an American with two college degrees I completely agree. He's not being hyperbolic
The character of a man is told by the legacy he leaves behind. Mandela left us the ANCancer
Blasphemy....you are so wrong ...sies
Would you have prefereed to live under the apartheid government?
super entertaining and thought provoking
There are two views:
- The objective is peace and preferably freedom.
- The objective is freedom and preferably peace.
If your main objective is peace, you will lose your freedom.
Well done Gareth. 😊 Good platform. Well done Jane Dutton. Lovely compassion for the Palestinians.
Very much enjoyed this talk.
"People are driven by misery to revolution..and brought back by revolution to misery.
Brilliant podcast guys 👏👏👏
Love Douglas Murray.
At the beginning of 2018 the Dean of computer science at the University of Johannesburg, informed his 22 000 new BSc computer science students that 12% will graduate successfully. 4 years later 2.1% passed! More than 75% of the students were subsidized with full bursaries.
Insightful statistics. Thank you
Thank you for a great discussion. The question were not a ramble but clear, precise and intelligent.
Bravo bravo Tabane, may your message be heard all over Sputh Africa, and thank you to Gareth and Andrew. Long live Ac**nSA
No guys the media team should do better
People are still trying to understand and grapple with and why South Africa has gone the way it has, becoming a failed State with all institutions failing.
Zimbabwe is regarded as a total failure. However, it depends on your point of view. From the point of view of a true communist, Zimbabwe is an absolute success story, it's communist government having accomplished exactly what they intended to. A small elite, and masses of subservient people in abject poverty.
The ANC is succeeding quite well and as intended. It's as simple as that.
Wow all legends
Great discussion...pity about the shocking audio quality and the fact that JJ never shuts up🤦♂️
JJ Awesome person
this is brilliant
We'll done JJ

Awesome Gareth!!!
-what I did not pick or rather, so many issues were discussed notwithstanding - yes they are hoping from one theme to another my brother in Green stole the hour-- that is the three benefits -- he is spot on
Agree, countries not interested in South Africa will be a mager regret for these countries. South Africa is an amazing country no matter our situation right now, we will be back stronger and wiser, and we will unite as one nation . ❤❤🙏🙏
Interesting this
Loved the chat.
Great stuff listening I like it all
Douglas Murray, in the beginning, looks totally stunned.
Of course a it came from Tabane and not some suited white man.
Douglas Murray is one of the the greatest debaters at the moment.. He was definitely not stunned
Thank you Douglas Murray and team. An excellent discussion. To take you up on Ukraine/Russia saga. My perhaps very simplistic view: USA and NATO needed a bulwark or bastion against Russia (usual issue of power and control). So a war initiated, instigated by USA/NATO/WEST (US needs a war somewhere in the world to keep its economy afloat) between Ukraine and Russia - to conveniently blaming Russia. Which led me further to wonder what America would do if Russia should ever press on America's borders?
Great talk
South Africa was not fighting an all out war
excellent
Vote DA 💙
Douglas 👍👍👍
I love Douglas Murray, but JJTabane is great!
57:50 - Holy shit. I didn't know about the MTN connection.
Three wise men❤
I wish you guys could summarise, based on all the political party interviews you have done, the following: what voters can expect to get by voting for each party (your opinion not the party's). Help people to see what they are voting for and to learn that they need to think that way.
slightly putting smirk Tabane in his place.
The Bigger picture. Trouble is brewing ahead for Africa resulting from a careless attitude to planning & maintenance of their countries in general. .
The current population of Africa is 1,489,827,251 , 50% is under the age of 15., most are badly schooled and unemployable. The internet is available to all ,showcasing a prosperous developed world elsewhere & so many are naively anxious to have a share of it risking their lives crossing deserts & oceans to achieve that ideal. Where does South Africa as a more developed country stand regarding this little problem....
The corruption was most certainly NOT worse in the public healthcare system under apartheid, thank you very much!
The whole system was BUILT by the Nats and the public healthcare system worked very well - I know because several of my family members used it in those days...
I wouldn't go near it these days!
It was actually corrupt. You just wish for whites to rule again.
As an health care worker working in govt first since early 90s and later in both, the state health care system was far better in the non-white sections than it is in the multiracial system now. Before 94 there was nobody feeding at the trough of the health care budget like the last few decades. Essentially its all about screw the poor.
But obviously the Nats had to have an ok functioning healthcare system for blacks because they were the labour force. What stupid person would have a labour force that supports the economy and let them die because of bad health? That is economic suicide.
I think Douglas was rather drowned out by JJ and did not have a chance to express his thought clearly. The Douglas and Gareth piece that was published a few days ago is infinitely more informative and is a much better experience than this one.
Yup I agree, it would have been better fot JJ not to have been there.
Douglas Murray for President

No discussion about BEE.
No discussion about “brain drain”.
We are proud of reconciliation-half the nation has left South Africa because essentially there is racism.
Our educated youth has also left for more fair opportunities. Ie: selected for ability and not skin colour.
