Although this beast of a touring motorcycle is AWESOME! There are still plenty of things I HATE about it.
So sit back, grab a drink and see if you can relate to these.

You can use the main key to open the tank, just pull it out in right position.

There are foam parts available to stop hot air to your legs. Make a copy key for tank cap or buy a keyless tank cap. Service your bike yourself. After taking the plastic parts off for the first time it'll be easy. There are better windshields available to stop buffeting or buy a lip for your present windshield. The warping discs in many cases are actually jammed bobbins. Put a 30 mm long bolt with 10 mm thread through the 7 bobbins, lock the bobbin with a nut and rotate the bobbins with a ratchet (15 mm) and spray brake cleaner to the bobbins. Voila! No warped discs any more.

That's awesome advice thank you. I've had the discs replaced now.

I have the 2008 bought new. Item #1 - I live in Florida and the engine heat does not bother me much. Maybe because I am riding in a hot climate anyway. Item #2 - I have heard about the front discs warping, but I never have had this problem. Maybe because I always ride solo, and so have less weight to stop than you. Item #3 - I am 6'4" and I put a "laminar Lip" (Laminar company was in California and went out of business a couple years ago - Puig is an alternative.) on the stock wind screen that helps reduce buffeting. I also bought a taller "Euro Cut" screen from Cee Bailey's (15 in. tall X 18 in. wide) that solves the problem completely. However, in summer heat I find it too hot for lack of wind hitting me. Item #4 - Well, it is what it is. The upside is that the wind protection is excellent, and for those who don't want to pay the labor for body panel removal there are the naked bikes. Item #5 - Maybe the keyless ignition is a little antiquated now, but really, taking the key out of the ignition or the key fob is quick and easy and not a bother. Only two negatives for me. First, is the tire pressure sensors - they are expensive and only last about three years. So, I had them taken out last tire purchase and now I use a back-to-basics tire pressure gauge. Secondly, the stock seat was really the worst pain in the ass, so I sold it and bought a Corbin. Problem solved. Now for the positives - I have had nine motorcycles and this is the only one I have kept over the years. Engine is smooth and powerful without being irritatingly loud, rook solid on the highways, good wind protection, decent economy given the power, spacious bags. Some find her a little difficult in tighter curves, but I went to a 190/55ZR/17 rear tire rather than the stock 50 profile, and this helps to make her more agile. Just remember she is a big girl.

Herrko61 might be right, warped disks often come from lack of cleaning (blocked bobins or locked brake pistons in extreme neglect) or other issues. I had warped disks on a BMW F800, weighing only 200kg, probably due to leaky front suspension.
    Safe driving, have fun!

This is a proper long-distance machine. Just in line with the FJR1300 I think. Great video mate. Appreciate it. Drop by when have time. I just uploaded a Series of my Trip to Bosnia. :)

I have a 2010 model and do not have any of the issues that you have. As someone else said turn key fully clockwise and it will come out to open tank. Not a problem.

I have my phone holder where the ignition key sits so I can't remove it with the current location of the phone holder. I love this bike, the video is just a few points that I could talk about. Its a brilliant bike

That’s an aftermarket screen, the genuine has a slight lip built kin.

Yank from Colorado here. Came from cruisers. Love riding this bike in the Rocky Mtns. Great for mountain touring. Eat Harleys for breakfast. King of the baggers! Riding position is a bit cramped for me so must modify. Looking into forward riding pegs. Seat is the worst. Going to try inserting memory foam into seat first, then will probably have to spend bucks on custom seat. Raised bars 2", now looking at raise 2 and pullback 2. Hate the key system. Fob should open side cases. But bike is pretty awesome. Have ridden it in high winds, rain, snow, a flooded street with feet in the air. How many bikes can do that? The frame mounted fairing is very protective. Handguards should also help keep hands warm. Hey man, I ride in cold weather - no heated gear - and I am the only idiot out there. LOVE the heated grips. LOVE the electric adjustable windscreen. Would LOVE to ride over there.

If you think that heats your legs don’t even bother getting on a Honda ST1300. Pleasant in the winter but you’ll have sweat soaked pant legs in the summer. But don’t let a few negatives in life keep you from appreciating all the good. Even in less than perfect circumstances enjoy every minute on a bike.

That's exactly how I am on this bike in the summer 🤣it's toasty. Don't worry, I absolutely love this bike....its just a video for UA-cam. Everything has pros and cons and this bike has far far more pro's😁thanks for watching

They Improved the heat issue with the gen 2. That's why so much of the fairing has been cut away

There’s a “secret key” in the steering lock. If you turn it all the way to the right, it pulls out to unlock the gas tank and seat. 😎

Needed new discs immediately. Same problem as the ZZR1100s - should’ve been sorted by now. Riding with warped discs also puts the chrome at risk of nibbling. Agree with all points. Fast tho! 😎👍

I have a 2009 Concours 1400ABS and absolutely love it for 125,000 miles so far. Here's a tip for the brake discs- after braking let go of the brake lever because when the discs are hot the hot pads will leave deposits if pressure is sustained on them, and build up a layer of crap.

I have a gen 2 GTR 1400 and luckily not had any of the problems you mentioned, my mate had one and he mentioned about the built in leg warmers. I agree with the keyless ignition I don't quite get what that is all about. Its a pain when you get off the bike for an hour and realise you have left the ignition on oops.

I'm toying with the idea of getting one after having an FJR 13, but I'm having a doubt and I can't figure out what the doubt is.

I'll be putting more GTR content up soon. Currently in Cornwall on it on a quick 24 hr visit on the GTR and filming a bit on it. The only thing I don't like is.......nothing, I love this bike.

I would recommend to talk to your local bike dealers and workshops. My garage told all the problems that are mentioned in this video, and I think more. What they've said, get it new, then it's a brilliant bike, but over 40k miles/60k km... set it on fire. I asked them, FJR or GTR... no contest, FJR... but I still want a GTR with cruise control... pfff... I don't know... I still have about 100 000km left in my FJR to figure things out and make my mind.;))
      Happy Easter!;))
