Wow, thanks for sharing so succinctly. Most youtubers make me listen to their life story before sharing the topic of the title.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Man you are a life saver ! I make this cornbread and it doesnt come out as pretty as yours but it sure goes good with beans or collard greens . Thank you so much !

My mother always made cornbread on the stove. In a cast iron skillet and no sugar (it’s cornbread, not cake!) She passed away before I was able to learn her recipe, but I imagine it was very close to how you make it, Mr. Ken. Looking forward to trying it myself. Thanks for your channel!
What a wonderful memory. I know just what you mean. Thanks for commenting.
I like mines sweet🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💯
@@Trill4life777 🤣🤣🤣Me too, nothing wrong with that though (🤦🏾♂️they forget bread has sugar too lol not just for cakes and pastries etc)
❤❤❤😢
I always add one tablespoon of sugar to my cornbread. It’s always very delicious.
Thanks. This is perfect with some black eyed peas, smoke turkey meat and some raw onions on the side.
That sounds good to me!
@@KenClick Lol. That's my next meal, after I polish off my pot roast.
You forgot the mustard and turnip greens with seasoning bacon.
Just what I"ve been waiting for! I have some pinto beans soaking for tomorrow and I was thinking about cornbread but didn't want to use the oven.THANKS!
I'm coming to your house!
Perfect quick corn bread recipe to go with some left over great northern soup beans!
That sounds good to me!
Greens and beans with this and I'm in!
Not sure about the beans, but if I HAD to eat them I'd weigh heavy on the cornbread side.😉 I wonder if a spelt flour would work.
Beans
Love this !!!
My mom fixed fried cornbread when we were growing up in the 1960’s and mid 1970’s. It was delicious! Thank you for your recipe! ❤️
Thanks!
Two years later and I am so glad I found this. It is hot and my husband wanted cornbread with his purple hull peas. I made a double batch and somehow managed to get the huge thing flipped. It was great. Thanks.
Glad to hear it! Thanks for commenting!
This is perfect for a single guy who doesn't want to purchase a box of mix which serves 6 people . Thanks again Mr. Click !!

Hi Mr Ken I don’t always comment but I make almost all your recipes because they are so easy and delicious. Who knew u could make cornbread on the stove. I’m always looking for recipes that don’t take my whole day to make. Thanks again for another hit.
Thanks Erica. I appreciate your kind words!
I didn't believe it either, but it's true and really better than the oven!

Sorry for your loss. I'm glad to help you make some good cornbread!
My oven just died. We are on butane burners. Miss my oven and baking 😭. Thank you for making this video. It gives me hope!

Thank you so much man! I didn't have myself a cast iron skillet, so I resorted to find different ways to make it. Luckily, I came across your video and it made my day a little bit better. Thanks! Haven't have cornbread in like 4 years. Pretty sure the last person that made it for me was my mother.
That's great to hear! I'm glad to be helpful...🙂
My mom used to make smaller cornbread in iron skillet on the stove love it...she used to make biscuit dough and added more buttermilk so it would pour into iron skillet in the oven...we called it doughbread.
Great memories!

Thanks so much for this recipe! I cook for my grandma weekly and she love this corn bread! It’s a perfect amount for her! 🙏🏾many blessings to you!
You are a sweet granddaughter to cook for her. Don't forget to hug her often for one day she will be gone (like mine is) and you will not be able to. God bless.
Never thought about cornbread like this, my mama used to do something similar. She mixed up biscuit dough but thinner and cooked it like this. Love your videos, reminds me of how my mama cooked. She passed away 2yrs ago and thankfully she taught me everything she knew about cooking and sewing 💙💙
Sorry for your loss, but what a wonderful legacy she left you. Great memories... and skills.
Wow. Yes this is just what I've been looking for since I don't have an oven. I'd sure like to know your moms biscuit recipe! God bless you both.🥰

STOVE TOP !!! I buy the Jalapeno Corn Bread Mix, put 1 egg & 2/3 cups of milk, and stir... pre-heat 8 inch skillet and put butter and non-stick spray. Setting should be on LOW, I mean real low. Pour batter into skillet & Cover w/lid for about 8-10 minutes, until you see batter on top is dry. Turn over for about 4 mins, and that is it!! After corn bread is baked, take out of skillet and put on plate. Pour a little honey and brush it in....... I hope this helps someone. Thank You.
🙂
My Mema lived with us when I was growing up. She was a wonderful Southern cook. Your videos bring back such great memories... I can smell her cornbread in the cast iron skillet now. ❤
Good food and great memories! 🙂

Many Blessings 🙏
That's great! Thanks for commenting!
This works, I had to add additional milk but all-in-all, this makes real corn bread. Will add corn next time with hot jalapeño peppers.
Glad you tried it! Thanks for commenting.
My oven went out and I needed to make cornbread and search for on the stove. Wow quick and easy thanks so much.
Glad I could help!
I made this. It turned out really great. I like the idea that you don't need an over. It could be cooked over a camp stove if the electricity was down.
You're right! 🙂
Ken, Your recipes are perfect portions for singles and couples. Another great tip. Thanks for sharing the video!
Thanks for watching and commenting! 🙂👍
So simple , so quick, and looks delicious !!! Thank you Mr .Ken .I will try it. Keep well.
Great! Thanks for watching!
Thank you!!!! My mother always fried cornbread on the stovetop never in the oven. I’ve been looking all over the internet and you tube and your the first and only that I’ve seen who cook cornbread like her. Of course she used self rising cornmeal mix and 1/2 cup self rising flour and vegetable oil she would fry on low after oil got off cut okey the bottom and sides then flipped it over to fry the top. Feeding a family of six
Great memories!
Doubled it, used inexact measurements, added sugar cause I'm from THAT part of the South, and...it was fantastic. Thank you!
Glad it turned out well for you.
Wow! This is so easy! This is the 1st time I've seen this done. Can't wait to try it! As always Ken, thank you for uploading this video and sharing it with us! 👋🍳🍲🍞😍

OH, yes, this is on my winter list. I've been wanting chili and cornbread!
That sounds good to me!
My mom and grandmother taught me how to make this as a child. I still make it today and sometimes I add a little sugar. Delicious indeed!!! This brings back so many good memories memories
Wonderful!
I've been doing this for years!!!! I put myself on a budget several years ago and started experimenting on ways to save money. Not using the oven was for me a money saver. So I came up with my own recipe that is very similar to this one. It is delicious and looks like oven baked bread. The recipe passed the family test for they thought it was oven baked. It's not greasy....just crispy, if not using the lid after flipping. Thank you for sharing the recipe so people can see how quick and easy it is to have that perfect bread for pintos, chili, etc. Try it....you will LOVE it!!!!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Love the simplicity 👍

That is Awesome to do. My Mom taught me how to make that long ago. And I still make it. Just have to have the right Skillet and Plate and it is better than oven Cornbread.
Mmm Mmm, Good! I've been doing this for years... learned it from my grandfather. I always pour bacon grease in the batter, instead of cooking oil.

Man my grandma used to make these. The only difference is she added onions. Quick to make and so good. Thank you for a much needed trip down memory lane.

Hope you enjoy it!
Hi Ken. I've baked cornbread for years in the oven. I did not believe your recipe at first, but I tried it in a cast iron skillet on a hotplate, and I had delicious results! The cornbread did not stick to my cast iron and was easy to flip. You're right it's not as thick as oven-baked, but actually it's THE perfect size for two or three people. I really like your recipe because it's a little thinner than oven-baked skillet cornbread. I added chopped onions to mine. Delicious! Thank you for sharing your tip! :)
Wonderful! I'm glad you gave it a try and found out for yourself that it really does work!
Thank you, I've been looking for a stovetop recipe.

Good job on explaining this recipe. I'm getting ready to try it right now. Thank you!

So excited about this! I have a skillet cornbread recipe that I was planning on making with chili today and forgot it was oven rather than stovetop - and our oven is broken 😅 this will be perfect!

My oven isn’t working either. I’m glad I found a stovetop recipe. Did you try it?
Yes!! I don’t remember if I fully followed this recipe or adapted the one I had been originally planning to use to be closer to this, but either way, it turned out well!
This are the type of recipes I like. No complications

My sister-in-law years ago just from Crystal Springs Illinois they lived on Lake Egypt and her cornbread it was like a regular cookie sheet should making it would be so sin and trusted it was good but that's what her husband like and she fix it but everybody does it differently is on the porch and I did fix it that way a few times for my husband but I went back to my old southern way
My microphone is broke and they just threw will not say what I wanted to say I said she made real thin cornbread in a cookie sheet and it was good but I went back to my Southern way at least phone stores don't open up I'm going to lose my mind but yet they keep taking my money out of my bank and I can't get nobody on the phone and I just about to really get really ticked off
That looks like the corn cakes my grandma used to make for us as children! Drizzle some Po-T-Rik syrup on it and chow down 😋

We called it a Hoe Cake
Hot water Cornbread is goo too just cornmeal & Hot water goole it easy

First time to see this. Thank you. Now I can make just for myself without too much left over.
@Virginia Reid - This old single guy agrees with you . I've been reluctant to purchase a box of mix that serves 6 people . All the best .
Quantum Mechanic , Mom would make corn bread and time it to be done when we got in from school. Fantastic snack, especially when, along with the butter we got syrup.
Take care.
Virginia Reid My grand parents ate it with milk at night before bed.
What a way cool story about your Mom making cornbread for you kids . Love it .
I do a fair amount of camping on horseback & "mule back" and make cornbread with crumbled bacon and cheese added in a Dutch oven . American and Parmesan cheese + jalapeno peppers is awesome .
Hope your weekend is fantastic Virginia .

Thank you Sir! I love Cornbread! All I need, is 1 piping hot slice. This will be my go to method!!
Enjoy!
I grew up eating fried cornbread. My mom would pour the cornbread batter onto a hot cast iron griddle like pancakes. What we didn’t eat for supper we’d eat later as a snack with jelly. Love the idea of fixing this in a skillet♥♥♥♥

Great job again Ken. Question: if using self-rising flour why do I need to add extra baking powder too? Thanks
That cornmeal needs a little extra help.
Excellent question and excellent answer . Thanks
If you didn't put it in it wouldn't be so light.
Stovetop recipes like this don't circulate the heat the same as in an oven. Oven is much better but by adding a little more baking powder, it will help in rising the dough. As you can see, even with the extra baking powder it still isn't as high as in the oven version but still "fluffier" than the corn cake or corn pancake. Still great with syrup or fruit!🤗
Wonderful! I'm gonna try it!
If you tell me it's possible to make stove top snickerdoodles, I'll believe you! 😁
Ha! Thanks for watching and commenting. 🙂

Thank you Ken. My dad's oven isn't working but I can still make corn muffins thanks to you!
Glad to be a help!
Hi Ken
I’ve never seen corn bread cooked on the stove, I’m going to try it out when I make a pot of ham hock & pinto beans . Can you use cast iron or is the non stick pan better ... looks so good 😊 I always rub butter on my biscuits & cornbread everything taste good with some butter on it !
Thanks Brenda
It's easier with a non-stick pan I think, Enjoy!
Cast iron pan is a non stick if seasoned properly.
When I was a kid I remember I used to watch my mom would make cornbread on top of stove she will make it in a cast iron skillet that was the only time I seen anybody make cornbread on top of the stove now I see mr. Ken thanks mr. Ken for sharing your recipe and God bless😇
This looks like a good & easy recipe to try Mr. Click! I always enjoy watching your videos because you seem to love to cook, and also seem like such a nice & decent man! (Rare these days). To Nim Rod, I wanted to mention that my Dad used to LOVE to crumble up corn bread into his milk also. Even buttermilk at times (ugh!). TFS this is what my mom called a ‘hoe cake’
Thanks for watching!
D K Mommade cornbread like this when she was in a hurry.
@D K Yes indeed. My grandmother called it that.
TFS-we didn’t call them hoe cakes, just corn cakes. We would make them about the size of pancakes more or less. I personally liked having the edges a bit crunchy - but that was just me.
My mom and grandma called this cornbread a hoe cake! Brings back memories and I will try making it myself. Sounds easy, fast and delicious!
That looks wonderful!
Thanks!

Hi mister click, thanks for your recipe. I'm wondering if this would work with a pre-made cornbread mix🤔
It should, but I have not tried it myself. 🙂
Oh , gonna try that! :-D
Ain't you sumthin
I appreciate the info
Be blessed in Jesus name
I'd call that a pancake. That's all it is, and that was made a lot by the Canadian Indians.
The size and shape and height are quite like pancakes (cornmeal pancakes, hoecakes, etc.) but as soon as he cuts into it, I see cornbread. Native Americans/First Nations people have made both stovetop cornbread and cornmeal pancakes (www.recipezazz.com/recipe/cornmeal-griddle-cakes-choctaw-native-american-19722); the former is cut into pieces, and the latter is generally served as individual rounds. Perhaps this is kind of in between, since it's flipped the way a pancake is flipped, but it doesn't look like a pancake inside. That said, if I was making skillet cornbread, I'd fill the whole pan!
Corn cakes. My mum makes it all the time
Did the Canadian Indians call it a 'pancake' also? Cornbread doesn't 'TASTE' like, and never has tasted like a pancake.
Call it whatever you like though, I'll stick with cornbread.
What a great idea! I'm going to try this with Jiffy Cornbread mix. Thanks for sharing this.
That's great! Just remember that Jiffy has a lot of sugar so it will burn easier. 🙂
Looks really good. Will give it a try! Thank you.
Great! Enjoy!
