Pateley Bridge is a market town in Nidderdale near Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England.
Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it lies upon the River Nidd. Pateley Bridge is in the Yorkshire Dales, and is just outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The town has the oldest sweet shop in the world.
In this video we take a walk down Pateley Bridge High Street from the junction with Ripon Road and Old Church Lane. On our way down the High Street we pass The Pateley club, Cocoa Joes, Fish with a twist and Faded Elegance shops before arriving at the Oldest Sweet Shop In The World!
If you visit the Yorkshire Dales then a trip to Pateley Bridge to visit the Oldest Sweet Shop In The World is a must! Still serving sweets in the traditional way this sweet shop has been recognised by the World Guinness Book Of Records as the world's oldest sweet shop.
As we continue down Pateley Bridge High Street we see Sweet Heart Tea Rooms, Talbot House Hotel and Tea Rooms, Glad Rags Boutique and High Street Fisheries.
After the Crown Hotel we cross over and head into Kings Court, a lovely little courtyard featuring some terrific coffee shops and cafes and some great shops and florists!
We end this Pateley Bridge walk at the actual old Pateley Bridge itself over the River Nidd. This bridge has been here for centuries and is the bridge that the town takes it's name from.

Can you do a tour of cottingham is just outside of hull. burnsall is a nice place too so is kettlewell there just outside of grassington
I love that town. I took a bus intending to visit Brimham Rocks. The driver let me out where I could walk to them. Wore myself out trying to get there, gave up and walked to Pateley Bridge. I visited the sweet shop, and then had a really nice pint in the Crown before catching a bus back to Harrogate, and then to Knaresborough, where I stay when I visit there.
The river Nidd is beautiful. I remember one peaceful afternoon sitting on a bench by the river, watching the bugs floating over the surface of the water, fish jumping to catch them, and a kingfisher occasionally diving for a fish. Heaven!
That sounds perfect!!
Had my first honeymoon here 40 years ago. Lovely town.

My aunt and uncle lived in windmill cottage above pately for over 50 years, we used to love going to visit them and wander into town to look around. My aunt had her ashes scattered in the area.
Good memories of Pateley Bridge. We arrived one day earlier and slept in the youth hostel of Dacre Banks. There was absolutely nothing up there. So for breakfast next day we went on to Pateley Bridge. Must say that is was a lot quieter then (1978 by bicycle from Holland) than now. I remember we started on the right side of the road before realising we were driving on the wrong side. (lol)

Hi their Mr Gimbal I don't coment on ur uploads but today I'm going to Tell u that they R great I live abroad in Malta 4 the past 28 yrs I'm from anstey nr Leicester and I love ur vids when I was young my parents used to take us to saltphilbly I didn't spell it right it's nr mablethrope we had great holiday's there and also on d Isle of Whyte anyway not to ramble on tks 4 ur time and effort that u put into ur Gimbal walks the content is really really good best wishes from Malta

My family used to live in this area about century ago going back for several centuries. My great grandparents emigrated from there to the US and I have always wanted to visit, but have never been able to. Thank you so much for this video. Quite literally brought tears of happiness to my eyes.
Thank you for yet another good video. You find so many reasons to visit each place. I am not sure about the narrow main street, although the people walking didn't seem to mind. Those old buildings. If they could only talk.
It wasn't nearly as busy when I was there, but that was September, and not as many tourists around.
These Northern towns are so charismatic and interesting. The people too.

Thanks for the fantastic videos. This is where i come to check out places i intend to visit. Don't you just hate the modern scurge. TRAFFIC. I hate all vehicles with a vengence. All cars/vans should be banned from entering towns.
