What a beautiful little place. There are so many places in the U.K like this that you simply don't know are there. Good to see these small communities still thriving like this.
Lovely town, and having numerous attractions, makes,it a special place, also it's location between Scarborough and hemsley, you can say it has been truly blessed .!
I had two weeks in Pickering in the mid 1980's working in the plastic injection moulding company there I and a couple of workmates were sent down by our company to do some inspection work on parts. A very nice place and really nice people, have a lot of happy memories of that couple of weeks. Never had thee chance to return there but never say never.
Definitely adding Pickering to our places to visit next time we’re back in the North York Moors. Places always look so lovely in the sunshine. Hope you can do a walk through Helmsley as well.
A small bit of history about PICKERING Pickering is a lovely town at the southern foot of the North Yorkshire Moors, commanding the broad vale. Its history goes back to 270BC, when a Celtic settlement was founded there. Legend has it that the tribe's king lost a ring in the river and that it was found in the belly of a pike. The town's name is said to be based on that incident, and its coat of arms includes a pike with a ring in its mouth. This sign can be seen on the towns name board as you enter.
I use to live in Pickering and loved the video of you walking around as I havent ventured there for over 20 years, noticed the supermarket has changed it use to be Sainsburys its now Coop, a few shops are the same but a few new ones, never heard about the gate being haunted to be honest, the train is great for a day out up to Goathland, the Cantonese restaurant was there when I lived there and was always a great place to eat.
The supermarket was originally Hintons before becoming Prestos which it was called when I worked there as a teenager in 1986/7. They were halcyon days indeed. It was later absorbed into the Safeways group before adopting its present name. Prior to the supermarket opening the largest general store in town was Liptons at the bottom of the market place and that is really going back some..
Good to see the town where my family lived in the 18/19 century. I have grandparents buried the churchyard in the 1800s. Will have to visit soon. I note Taylors the fruit shop. Maybe relatives?
I don’t think my reply to you got through. If William and Martha Taylor, 5:49 buried at the parish churchyard, then we are related. It would be good to know. Martin Taylor
@@martintaylor7391 Hi Martin, I'm not sure how to message you safely on here as I don't want to give the world my details regarding the Taylors etc... LT
Pickering looks a lovely little place glad I was having breakfast when you showed me the bakery 😀. I enjoy these walks more so than some of the big cities keep on walking 👍👍❤️❤️
Brilliant video, I was there last year's as part of a drive round North and West Yorkshire...I loved it, Pickering and it's valley is so beautiful! Thanks for the video, another phenomenal production by yourself!
I should add that the drive over the moors from Sleights through Gothland to Thornton le Dale and Pickering was breathtaking, intimidating and some of the most beautiful countryside that I have visited
I DROVE FROM CASTLE CARY SOMERSET, TO WHITBY , 20 YRS AGO, AND DROVE THROUGH PICKERING, ON THE WAY BACK. I THOUGHT IT A VERY NICE PLACE, WITH SURPRISINGLY WIDE ROADS, AND MANY INDIVIDUAL STLES OF ARCHITECTURE.
It's been a while since I was in pickering hope to get back there this year the castle is nice to look around hope to take the family on the steam train this year just love the area around there thanks neil
Lovely town, great memories, but it's been a few years since I've been there, always made sure I stopped off at the Secret Garden Café (Now Cooplands) in Market Place for cakes or a meal.
We used to visit the war weekend and steam fair in Pickering. Hilarious to listen to the locals and visitors dress up as GIs and talking with a Yorkshire accent. Lol
The Cooplands hand drier action is weak, and doesn’t put out enough thrust or velocity to warm or dry even the slightest of dampness. Very disappointing A drytastically poor score then of just 2 out of 10
Hello gimble walk Neil happy new year just to let you know I love your videos and I have never been to Pickering is it near Whitby would it be alright for you to send your videos to me I am one of your surbscer take care stay Safe From Lynn
I like Pickering, but what happened to all the badly painted bikes. They use to be seen mounted on the buildings. And what did they represent. Can anyone tell me about them.
That gate that opened.....probably on a sensor. However, the building is the old station masters house and was a cafe. It is a haunted location, with a couple of supposed ghosts, one of whom was Michael or Mick. People who worked there said they could smell pipe smoke and flowers when there was no-one there.
Don't know what all the fuss is about it's basically one street with a few shops and places to eat. I parked in the car park and found that the machine was Broken with no sign to say there was another one, I left a note on my car but to no avail I got a ticket and despite explaining what happened had to pay it. I will never visit Pickering again.
