Oh my gosh! This is a WONDERFUL tutorial!!! I am on my second market bag now! I am a high school teacher and all of my girls wanted the first bag I made! Thank you so much for your talent and teaching ability!!!
Aww, thanks Lisa! I really appreciate that and you're very welcome. I hope the girls all enjoy their new bags! I do also have another bag tutorial you may want to check out: ua-cam.com/video/4mw2wkhhcSI/v-deo.html Happy crocheting!
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial, I appreciate that you've also provided a written pattern. I've been watching many tutorials on market bags and I nmust say that your tutorial is one of the best, it's the clearest and easiest to follow, no distracting loud background music and just pointing. Thank you ,thank you, thank you. I'll be making this market bag for sure! God Bless.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad it's been helpful. I have a 2nd market bag tutorial as well if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/4mw2wkhhcSI/v-deo.html That tutorial also has a written pattern: heatherscraftcorner.com/slightly-twisted-tote/ Happy Crocheting!
You are a wonderful teacher Heather. Your tutorial is concise & easy to follow. I messed up on the first one I made & it was totally my fault because I didn't pay attention to your instructions of working continuously & not joining at the end of the rows. Everything was fine till I got to the handles & realized the count was off so I had to adjust a bit. I'm watching your video for a second time & I now realize what I did wrong. I don't usually comment but I had to thank you for sharing.
I love this tutorial, and the pattern! Your instructions are clear and giving stitch counts and at the end of row helps to know I'm on track. Thank you 😊
I'm a beginner and my bag is turning out so well. Thank you so so much for sharing this video and free pattern!! I hope to make many for friends and family!
Ty so much for this tutorial, Heather! I’ve been looking for a tutorial for a sturdy market bag that doesn’t necessarily call for cotton yarn! I want to use my Super Saver yarn, since I love the many color varieties. Your bag foots the bill, beautiful & strong! 💖💖💖
Really enjoyed your way of teaching. This market bag (or other uses), is by far the nicest and easy to understand one I’ve seen on UA-cam so far. Thank you!
Great bag! I don’t think it matters that you used a dark yarn because your verbal instruction was so precise and easy to follow. You’re a very good teacher! I’m going to get started on this bag right away. Thank you!
I absolutely live this pattern. I use Lily Sugar n Cream 100% cotton. Medium 4. Bag is more flexible. Selling my first 2 and going to make one more for myself. Thank you so much
What a BEAUTIFUL bag!!! I think I'm going to try it. I would have appreciated it more if you had used a lighter colored yarn, but I love a challenge and I'll yet you know how I make out. Thanks for sharing 👍
This is a beautiful bag and wonderful pattern. I followed the written pattern but popped over here to the video to make sure I was doing things right. The only thing is I followed the pattern exactly, using a 486 yard weight 4 Red Heart skein, but ran out of yarn several rows short. I didn’t do a gauge, but tension looks the same as yours. I am shocked that there can be that big of a difference in yarn usage!
I feel for you. I even add extra yardage as a buffer on all of my patterns. Even with the gauge only being a little off (like a stitch or two per 4") can make a huge difference in yardage used. Also I've noticed most Red Heart yarn is thicker than the one used which would use more yardage. I hope you can snag another skein and enjoy your bag, though! Happy crocheting!
Just finished the bag and it turned out great! I used the written pattern since I was already familiar with the stitches but the video was nice to watch before I worked on it. Thank you!
Great tutorial I was doing ok once I started the textured part but my bag looked distorted I guess it's just me I should have used cotton I used worsted weight 4 acrylic I see that's a no no I pulled all 21 rows apart .
I love this pattern! I just finished row 37 and you mention that the beginning of the round does not start at the fold of the bag, but mine does. 😬 Should I do something different in row 38 so they handles match up?
It depends on your gauge, but for the bag shown the gauge was 4” = 17 sts / 20 rows (Base) and 4” = 15 sts / 8 rows (Textured). The finished measurements were 14.5” (H) x 14” (W) when lying flat, not including the handles. More information and the written pattern are available on the pattern website: www.heatherscraftcorner.com/day-at-the-market-bag/ Hope that helps! Happy crocheting!
I am a beginner and finally found a video I could use to make this. However, there are certain things that can be done better in the video. Firstly clearly showing where you are putting the needle. At start you are going through just one section of the chain but after that you are going through the whole chain. It is even harder to tell because you are using a dark color. I would recommend zooming in when you are starting a new row to show how you are doing it. I tried till round 3 multiple times with multiple colors and none of them even looked close to what you had. I gave up after that. I had to slow the video to .5 and stare at the screen to see what you were doing even then it didn't work. I am not trying to be mean. I know I can find other videos and you did a great job here. Those are just some suggestions and my experience with this tutorial.
No worries. Constructive criticism is welcome. :) This video is of an intermediate pattern, so there were some assumptions made about having some experience with working in the round. I'll have to come up with some tutorials that walk through this step by step in the future. I am still pretty new at this, so a lighter yarn would have been a better choice. Live and learn, right? Also, the suggestion of zooming up at specific parts is a good idea. Thanks for the feedback. Happy crocheting!
@@HeathersCraftCorner Thank you for the reply 😊. I didn't know it was for intermediate patterns. You are correct live and learn. I tried crocheting multiple time before even getting decent at making the first row.
I'm going to make sure my future videos make the difficulty level clear. I can certainly understand how that would be frustrating. And keep at it! It gets easier. :)
I finished one bag and loved it, but after switching to the smaller hook I found the stitches more difficult to do, they kept slipping off and it was kind of a pain. So I started another bag and figured I would just use the bigger hook for the whole bag. Well, the stitches are much easier and I’m having a lot more fun…but I’m three rows into the textured part and my bag seems to be fanning out a bit…like it’s too big. Do you think it will be okay or should I just frog it back to the hook size stitch and redo it with the smaller hook?
That would depend on what you want in the end. With the bigger hook, it will not have straight sides. It would balloon a bit. If you're ok with that, then keep going. If you want the sides to have a straighter line, then frog it. Sorry my answer is not so black and white. Crochet is an art. Follow your muse! ;)
I go through the back bump (not loop) down the first side, then through the other 2 loops going back down the second side. You really can do it any way you want, though. It will come out the same no matter how you work the base chain.
I have crocheted two of these bags, but at the time I didn’t print out the free pattern and was not able to open my on line pattern. I went ahead and paid the $5.50 for the pattern but it is not the same. And briefly looking at the tutorial it is not the same as my pattern. A single crochet is now a double, a dc is now a sc etc. please explain.
The pattern includes both US Terms and UK Terms. The video is done in US Terms. It could be that you're looking at the UK Terms version. I haven't changed the pattern, so that's my best guess!
Hey there! So I am confused about what you mean by "work in a continuous round 8 till round 16. I followed the same steps you said for rounds 1-7 for rounds 8-16 and it is not looking like yours. PLEASE HELP! :(
For rounds 8-16, you're not repeating rnds 1-7, you will just be working a sc into each stitch. Working in a continuous round just means that you won't join at the end of the round, but just keep working sc into each st. Hopefully that helps!
@@emilymichelleo I'm only seeing it be on the left when beginning rnd 8 and 16. I'm not sure what you're referring to. What are the timecodes you are looking at?
@@HeathersCraftCorner this was exactly my question. Unfortunately, I am confused. It is like you were moving to the right when working base but in row 17, it shows you are going to the left. Not sure i am on the right track
The pattern uses a 5.0mm & 5.50mm hook. You could use a small 1.75mm hook, but you'd probably want a lighter yarn and your bag is going to end up significantly smaller. It would be more like a small handbag.
