The Mesh Market Bag-Easy Crochet Pattern

  • Опубліковано 5 тра 2020
  • This easy crochet bag pattern looks more complicated than it is! I show you an easy technique I am dubbing the "Exaggerated Waistcoat Stitch" to make the beautiful meshwork you see here. You can purchase an ad-free written version of this pattern in my Etsy shop or in Ravelry
    Etsy: www.etsy.com/l...
    Ravelry: www.ravelry.co....
    Please note that you do not have my permission to sell, illegally share, translate, copy, or duplicate this pattern or my photos in any way. Please do not use this pattern for a video, blog, or class tutorial. Thank you so much for following these simple rules! Please message me on Facebook or send me an email at dayscrochetnc@gmail.com with any questions.
    The supplies used in this tutorial are:
    -1 full skein of Bernat Home Maker Dec yarn in the color Clay (or 317 yds of the yarn of your choice. If you choose to use a size 4 yarn, I would double the strands to make it sturdier).
    - J 6.0 mm hook for the bag body, and an F 3.75 mm hook to add the beads.
    J hook:
    amzn.to/3dB82Jr
    F hook:
    amzn.to/3eCZQcY
    - Two 20 mm wooden beads (I purchased mine in an assortment bucket at Wal-mart)
    - One 45 mm wooden ring (2") amzn.to/2VGA1Bh
    - Measuring tape, Scissors, and 4 stitch markers

    I have made other market bags with usual (shoulder) straps- I like this one- for the shorter handle & your Waistcoat stitch- I am also not a fan of the " holes' in most bags- TY for your brilliant design..& look forward to more Yarn Adventures with you. Just finished making two of these. One for me and another as a gift for a friend. I plan on making more to stash in my gift closet. Really wonderful pattern. Easy to make and also interesting to crochet. I didn't put the beads and tassels on because I'm lazy and like them fine plain. There is a lot of interesting texture in the bag. Thank you for the video and clear Instructions.

    I just started working on this bag but I seem to have run into an issue... The base of the bag for me is making a little wave on the edges and not laying flat. For the last three rounds of increase on the bottom, is it essentially every other stitch has two double crochets placed into it? that what I did but I think I increased too fast which caused the wave on the edge

    • @DaysCrochet
      @DaysCrochet  Рік тому

      It sounds like you have too many increases. Every round you make, you add another stitch in between your increases. So in round 2, you increase in every stitch. But in round 3, you add a stitch in between your increases; so you increase every other stitch. In round 4, you add two stitches between your increases; so you increase every third stitch. Make sense?

    I’ve been working on this bag, I think my yarn is too thin because my bag isn’t forming the round bag shape yours is, it really just looks like a round pancake. I wonder if I should just keep going and eventually it’ll look right

    Just what I was looking for! This is beautiful. Quick question as I am fairly new to crocheting. Is it true that the size/weight of the yarn doesn't matter as long as I have the length you specified in the description? What was the size/weight of the yarn you used in this example? New subscriber!!!

    • @DaysCrochet
      @DaysCrochet  Рік тому +1

      It’s not true that the size/weight doesn’t matter…not sure where you heard that but I thought I should tell you lol! Anyway, all the supplies are listed below the video in the description box. I do recommend trying to find the yarn I’m using, which is Bernat Home Maker Dec. Annie’s carries it, as does Yarnspirations. If you can’t find any, you can use other yarns but it might affect the overall look. Good luck to you!

    • @JW45174
      @JW45174 Рік тому

      Thank you! I was only asking the weight/size question because you didn't mention the size in your description and I was trying to figure out what to use. I did find the Bernat Maker Home Dec yarn in a "bulky" 5 that is about 317 yards per skein so I assume that's what you used. I love this yarn, thank you for recommending it. I'm about 3/4 of the way through and it's turning out great. Great video, thank you for posting!

    I would like to know the size yarn and the recommended hook size you are using. Also, I would like to learn how to add a fabric liner into this bag. Any thoughts or suggestions?

    • @DaysCrochet
      @DaysCrochet  2 роки тому

      All the supplies are listed in the description box below the video. As far as lining goes, I generally fold fabric in half and trace around the body of the bag. I then sew the side seams and I sew the top seams last. You can either hand stitch it to the top of the bag or you can hot glue it in. You may could even find some pre-made drawstring plain bags that you could use. I found a pack at a thrift store once and I often use them for liners. I hope this helps!

      To increase you do 2 dc in the same stitch. So you ch2 and do 2 DC in the same stitch . 1DC In the next stitch. 2DC In the next, 1 DC in the next . Repeat to the end.

    • @DaysCrochet
      @DaysCrochet  3 роки тому +2

      Donna Russell it would work but I would not use acrylic. I’ve made it using double strands of Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend and it doesn’t stretch like acrylic yarn. You have to be careful with acrylic yarns when it comes to purses/bags bc they will stretch to the floor lol. You can also line it if you choose to use acrylic. I line all of my acrylic bags.

    so by the roll 8 you will be increasing 7 dc increase?? Does it make sense??

    At least I think you didn’t say what type of yarn I have some we all like chunky by loops and threads it doesn’t have wool in it it’s 85% acrylic 15 % nylon but it’s nice and thick and sturdy do you think that would be OK

    • @DaysCrochet
      @DaysCrochet  4 роки тому +1

      I have never worked with that yarn, but I can safely say that most acrylic blends will stretch unless you line the bag. I tend to use cotton if I’m not using the Bernat Home Maker Dec yarn. I hope this helps!

    • @DaysCrochet
      @DaysCrochet  Рік тому +1

      I like to use yarn with a bit of stretch. You could double acrylic or cotton blends. I don't think I would use 100% cotton simply because it doesn't stretch much. If you do use cotton, go up 1-2 hook sizes on the extended waistcoat stitch rounds so they don't get too tight.

    Hi there - I love this and have bought the pattern. I'm a crochet beginner so the video is really helpful. However I live in the UK and cannot find this yarn anywhere at all - could I use a UK Cotton DK as an alternative? I think that is ok but it is round and not flat. The flat tape here is very low on stock and colours (and a different brand made from t-shirts I think) and also incredibly expensive...Thanks again!

    • @DaysCrochet

I went around doing two dc and than one dc back to two dc to one dc in each stitch and I have got a floppy yarn mess on my hands and it never started to bowl.. between row 6-8 I don't know what happened. Can someone explain what I did wrong.. I swore she said increase every other stitch for next three rows.. 😭 what did I do???? What did I miss. I'm getting broken hearted over here.

    • @DaysCrochet
      @DaysCrochet  Рік тому

      Oh no, you don’t increase in every other stitch for the next three rows. You increase like you normally would for the next three rows. Maybe you would add a stitch between each increase every subsequent round. Does that make sense?

    • @DaysCrochet
      @DaysCrochet  Рік тому

      I don’t know why it put the word may be in there. You definitely increase in every subsequent round as you normally would. That means you add a stitch between each increase as you go to the next round

      You increase by 12 stitches every round. So for round 6 you should have 72 dc. For round 7, 84 dc. For round 8, 96 dc.
