  • Learn how to crochet a super cute and easy reusable market bag. Definitely for beginners because you only have to know how to do a chain, single crochet, and double crochet! This tutorial really is for everyone. Plus, SAVE THE SEA TURTLES! Amiright? I hope you all enjoy this video and thank you all so much for supporting my channel. You all are amazing!!! Enjoy : )
    ALSO! A friend actually showed me a picture of a similar bag from Pinterest and asked me to recreate it and that's how I got this bag. But I feel like it is only fair to share their pin so make sure you click the link and support them as well! / 824229169289808125
    Also I realize at about 8:00 minutes I said chain instead of single crochet. My bad!
    ALSOOO If you like to listen to podcasts while you crochet (like me) and like true crime, then you should listen to the true crime comedy podcast Morbid. They are my favs and I constantly listen to them for hours without realizing it. I hope you guys check them out and enjoy it as much as I do!

    (Disclaimer: I don't receive anything for shouting out Morbid. I just genuinely enjoy listening to it and think a lot of others would like them as well)
    Happy crocheting :)

      When you go about turning your work. To do that 6 rows that wrap around your project. When you’re going up the sides and are doing that last single crochet in the corner before you turn to the bottom of your project try adding a chain 1 to maybe add a little more slack so the tension isn’t so tight and turns easier. That maaaay help!

    I love the bag and appreciate the effort its taken to share it with us. I've decided to skip trying to make the bag as there simply isn't enough guidance for a beginner like myself. I really need to know harrow much yarn, if there is a turning chain, and does it count as a stitch? Do I slip stitch to join? When I feel capable of answering those questions for myself. I may come back and give it a try.

    • @HerScience
      @HerScience  8 місяців тому

      Hi there! I used about 350 yards of each color. And each ball of yarn has 425 yards but sadly I think this specific yarn has been discontinued. You do a slip stitch to join. And as for a turning chain, you actually have a couple options. You can do the traditional chain to begin your round/row, and that can count as your single crochet. Or you can not chain at all and place a sc right into the first stitch (but that’s a little harder in my opinion). Or you can chain one and also place a sc into the first stitch. For beginners, the first option is probably the easiest! I hope this helps :)

  • @kathiepaulk3687

    Well, if you ch 80, then sc in second ch from hook, you don’t have 80 stitches and when you go around on 15th row, you have 13 stitches on the ends. So what I’m wondering is how the number of stitches is going to come out when you do the handle spaces on top. One stitch can throw the whole thing off. Also, this is going to be a huge bag. Do you slip stitch at beginning of rounds. Love your bag, but too many unexplained instructions or number of stitches

  • @chaneyszeto7567
    @chaneyszeto7567 3 роки тому +4

    for the handles you have to do it two times over right? - so the 140 sc + 8 times around is just for one side of the bag and you have to crochet the same thing for the other two holes on the other side of the bag right?

I’m getting an unsightly gap between the top and bottom posts. I notice your example does not have an opening where the posts meet. I’d include a photo but don’t see that as an option.

    On the 6 rounds around are you slip stitching to connect each row, or just keep going around in circle.

    • @HerScience
      @HerScience  2 роки тому +1

      Hi there! So the easiest way to do it is to start off your first row with four chains. The first two chains will “represent” a double crochet. Then you will finish the first row. To finish the first row, insert your hook into the second chain (from your initial set of four chains) and place a slip stitch. Then to begin the second row, chain four again. Then yarn over, insert your hook into the first large space that was created when you chained two in the previous row, then finish the double crochet, and repeat. I hope this helps! Let me know if you need further explanation! :)

      That’s up to you. Whatever you choose just make sure to keep it the same for every row and that should help. But I alwaysss have the problem of a wonky edge because of this so I feel you. For this I believe I counted the chain as the first sc.

    hello! for my chains, i did 50 instead of 80 because i am using a 4 mm hook, because the ‘measurements’ for the chains don’t match up, can you give me the measurements of the 28 chains you did when you were doing the handle? or approximately how much of the top row it ‘took up’ for example it took up half, or it took up a third or 2/5 etc!

    • @HerScience
      @HerScience  3 роки тому

      The ratio of 50 : 80 is the same as 17.5 : 28 So I would suggest doing approximately 17-18 chains for the handle. I’m not sure if that will exactly correspond to your bag but I hope that helps.

      I actually have a video on my channel explaining how I do my color changes. ua-cam.com/video/1YahM7RQTZg/v-deo.html
      ^^ here’s the link
      But basically at the end of the round (the round before you want to switch colors) instead of placing the slip stitch with your current color to finish the round, you’re going to insert your hook where you would normally to finish your round, and yarn over with your new color and pull the new color through. The new color should be on your hook and you can take scissors and cut off your old color and begin working with your new color like nothing even changed :) I hope this made sense and good luck!

    Hi! :) so we make two straps per side of the bag right?

    • @HerScience
      @HerScience  3 роки тому +1

      Hello! So it is one strap per side of the bag. You're going to make one big long chain and loop in through the two holes you made the for handle straps (it will make a circle after you connect the last chain to the first chain). After you are done crocheting all the rows for the strap, then you are going to fold the strap in half (making a half circle) and then connect each layer with a slip stitch on the sides. Hopefully this makes more sense : )

      I did the same thing for a bunch of my rows on accident too. I decided not to go back and fix any of them because it took such a long time. But looking back on my bag now, it is very hard to tell the difference between the stitches I did correctly and the ones that I messed up on so I am happy I didn't spend the time going back to fix it. That is all the advice I can give because I can't think of a way to fix it without undoing all the rows. I hope this helps!

    Not sure if you are suppose to stitch any at the end to turn to the next row of the first 14 rows.. you never did say.. you just said to chain 80 then do single crochet then do 14 rows.. am I wrong??

    • @HerScience
      @HerScience  3 роки тому +1

      You’re totally right that I should have been more descriptive. At the end of each row I placed a slip stitch into the very first stitch from that row to finish that row. Then, you can either chain one (in place of a single crochet) to begin the next row, or you can stretch out the loop on your hook ever so slightly and place a single crochet into the first stitch for that row. I hope this made sense and answered your question :)

      Hello! So when I did my bag (way back when) I accidentally twisted my first row too and I didn’t want to go back and fix it so I just started working into the stitches as it they weren’t twisted and it turned out fine. But you can also do 140 rows of 8 stitches and it would turn out the same :)
