SRV Brought the blues revival back in the 80's. The blues was dying in the 80's. Stevie looked up and paid massive respect to his heros. In fact, I remember one time SRV showed up to his show and saw BB opening for him and he was pissed. He was going to cancel the show. He told his management he never wanted to see BB open up for him ever again. He was to open up for his heros. Also, buddy loved stevie. They were great friends.
Well spoken Buddy. Where would we be without the most expressive music every, "THE BLUES" Clapton & the Brits had to wake up America to their heritage.
I agree!!! I remember seeing a video, Jimi Hendrix would go to see Buddy Guy because he was so impressed with his music. Jeff Beck loves Buddy and thanks him for the influence he made on him.
I love Buddy Guy. He is one of those rare musicians whom I put on a pedestal and idolize. It's not just about his musical genius. There is something about the man himself -- his honesty and passion -- that I find irresistible. He's real, and he's awesome.
Its about recognition to the Best . Hendrix if he lived past 30, back in 72. If only Jimi lived a bit longer.. we would hear something fresh year after year . Thats what Hendrix was. And HAtS off to maestro Here, b. Guy
Buddy Guy is one of he people who invented Rock n' Roll and Heavy Metal. Heavy Metal being based in the blues. Black Sabbath was one of the first groups to bring blues to the young folk in the 70s and they didn't even know it was blues. Buddy Guy is the man!
Most people will remember Clapton and Hendrix for being guitar heroes and rock icons, but they did something far more important that is oftentimes overlooked: they woke up Americans to their blues heritage and brought it to the rest of the world.
I saw Buddy Guy when I was a strapling in 1968...I was never the same...he stopped in front of us when he did his crowd walk...I almost fainted, my knees went weak...
In 2007, Buddy Guy came to India. And man did he blow us away. We entered the auditorium before they could even do their sound check, refused to budge when the organisers asked us to leave (after all, u don't leave the best seats at a Buddy Guy concert). :) And yes, he did the same thing for us too. BUDDY GUY rocks!
Great stuff. Actually it wasn't Buddy playing Hendrix and Clapton, they played him. He was a huge influence on the pair of them. I saw him in Cambridge over 20 years ago. What a showman.
The story went a little bit like this. 8/21/10. Buddy guy playing his guitar in saratoga CA. In the middle of a solo he go into the song so he walked off stage into the audience. He came towards me. With a very "I can't believe it" look on my face he came closer to me to the point that he was about 7 feet away. He came to me face to face. He said "play this." So I played the strings and out came a note. After the show I came to the stage and he gave me a signed pic. I'll never forget that day.
"Just proves with the right tone and amp setup, anybody can sound like anybody....LOL" I've played a few gigs with a few different backlines. I'm just saying, here: A really good guitarist finds a way to get what he needs regardless of the hardware. Buddy Guy is a guitarist who never (or at least seldom) dazzles the non-musicians in the audience, but always commands extreme respect from musicians. The reason he gets that respect is that he's in total control of what he's doing.
Thanks for saying that Buddy 'cause when I was a kid in the sixties and seventies in the UK, we didn't give a shit about what colour a musicians skin was. Main cosideration was a sound that blew us away and a lot of it came from you guys.
You've got that right! I've seen videos and heard recordings of guys like Buddy, Clapton, etc. sitting in with bands, and they are just using a guitar that had been on the stage, not their own personal guitar -- and that unmistakable tone is there, no matter what they play!
I've seen him live twice. Once was at a blues show, but there were several acts. He was a headliner, playing right before the main headliner-BB King. Better show was at a smaller club and he was the headliner. Hed the audience in the palm of his hand. He played mean and fast and slow and subtle. He belted out tunes and whispered some parts so quiet everyone the stopped making noise to hear him. Get the chance-go see him.
just remember where buddy comes from. he's lived it--& he's gonna speak from what he knows & has lived. bottom line--he's a mean mother on guitar. saw him live back in 1992--he was outstanding. played out of his mind. no one wanted him to leave. you could see how much fun he was having.
This man deserves the utmost respect and admiration he could have been a household name like Jeff Beck or Eric Clapton but no way was he gonna water down the blues to be radio freindly he kept it real
The reason why he's talking about that was because this is in Mississippi. It's a very special place in blues history, as you know. It inspired him to tell this. How would you feel....being a black blues artist....getting nowhere and being ignored all over the place. Then these kids come and copy it and everyone thinks they invented it. You wouldn't feel too good either. But anyway...he respects it now, otherwise he wouldn't be playing these tunes. As that 'invasion' finally made him famous too.
An old chinese legend says that once, a royal messenger sent by the emperor himself asked Jimi Hendrix: " What does it feel do be the best guitar player in the world?" And the master answered: " I don't know, why don't you ask him?" Master Jimi was an humble person, he'd be delighted to see his music played through centuries! R.I.P master, we all love you and you'll never be forgotten !
I’ve been going to concerts for over 40 years … and I’ve seen many guitar greats … and nothing was like a Buddy Guy show in the 80’s and 90’s … his guitar skills is only matched by the greats … and if you put in his showman skills … there’s only one …. Hendrix 🎸
Buddy has played with the Stones, Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, so he likes and respects UK blues/ rock guitarists. Jimmy Page said at the Kennedy Center Honors that he and Jeff Beck used to listen to Buddy Guy records, so it was a real honor for him to be honored along with Buddy.
You are absolutely right in saying the blues would have carried on. It's also fair to say the Electric guitar helped to take the blues to the next level as well, as well as paving the way for all the modern forms of music based on the blues. While jazz and country swing caught their genesis from acoustic blues, all the rest waited to be inspired by the electric guitar.
blues is a tough market....not alot of money in it, these poor musicians had so many road blocks to their careers and choice of blues. i just admire them so much!!rock me baby..rock me all nite long!!
Here's something so interesting. the man Born in 1936, this man has observed or experienced first hand and then expressed it through his music. That's a feat that most rock musicians cannot boast about. Most can only boast about america from the 60's forward. I put Buddy Guy, BB King, Les Paul all of those greats into one area, ELDER STATESMEN, post 1960 are also great musicians but the real revolutions were happening prior to the popularity of rock music.
Thank god for the Beatles!Otherwise Clapton,Page etc wouldn't have made it in America and Buddy Guy would be getting 2,000 hits on here instead of 2 million. Buddy Guy makes music so much fun...he's so good he toy's with it,put's a smile on people's faces.
Music has become monotone. There is nowhere the near TALENT that there once was. Thank GOD for the memories and talents from the past who have defined music and given it TRU meaning and a real sense of feel.
True story. Blues were basically ignored in the States til the Stones, Cream et al brought 'em back over electrified. And to this day many Blues artists must travel to Europe STILL to make a living doing what they do. Meanwhile our kids listen to whatever bullshit is being pumped out of the radio (the stations of which are all owned by a handful of corporations.) Teach your kids what good music is. That's all I can say, man.
Buddy is just setting the record straight, that's all, it's not about hating or anything like that, he's just saying "hey man I know you dig cream, and all the other rock blues music but dig it, It didn't come from England or Europe or Clapton, it came from America and America or White middle America was not ready for it but dig it, other Americans who were not white were digging it, they just didn't have the power to get it played on the radio, so dig it all but don't forget where it came from.
@GATTAPADRE I agree that Cream had alot going on, but I also agree with Buddy when he says that the blues came from the US. When ever we hear something we think is new we should probably wonder where it came from and check that music out and we can all grow just a little bit more Have a great day!
You got to see Buddy Guy on stage at least once. The guy makes you laugh. He won't be just playing guitar and sing. His show is an interaction of him and the audience. He has quite a few tricks to entertain.
"they don't like the print this shit" funny thing about strange brew. himself and clapton were talking about it back in the day, and buddy said he loved it. Clapton started laughing, and said "you should, its all you!" they fed off each other, but buddy's the big daddy. nobody can hold a candle to him
"Shut up, I'm gonna tell you the truth. You ain't gonna read this in no book. They don't like to print this shit" Quote of the century.
SRV Brought the blues revival back in the 80's. The blues was dying in the 80's. Stevie looked up and paid massive respect to his heros. M M but ain’t that the truth. That’s what I’d call being humble
Bullshit! Every musician knows what other musicians are touring With them or open the show....
@@joefox9765 you’re in the wrong genre then bud
Look at the energy he brought when he played voodoo. Wow
Well spoken Buddy.
Where would we be without the most expressive music every, "THE BLUES"
Clapton & the Brits had to wake up America to their heritage.
I remember being 13 in 1985 and running into a old Howlin Wolf Album in a record store in Michigan. I was totally blown away, thank God for the Blues.
OMG.... what a massive groove on the Cream song Strange Brew!
Its about recognition to the Best . Hendrix if he lived past 30, back in 72. If only Jimi lived a bit longer.. we would hear something fresh year after year . Thats what Hendrix was. And HAtS off to maestro Here, b. Guy

I am grateful that this man is still around, making music in our world.
Buddy Guy is one of he people who invented Rock n' Roll and Heavy Metal. Heavy Metal being based in the blues. Black Sabbath was one of the first groups to bring blues to the young folk in the 70s and they didn't even know it was blues. Buddy Guy is the man!
It is impossible to ignore Buddy. We love you!
Never thought I’d hear Buddy drop the f bomb. Haha awesome video.

Buddy ringing the school bell with a nice history lesson.

buddy guy is a badass.
I believe he's using a volume pedal to and he goes louder when he's "sustaining" a note causing some feedback as well. I could be wrong though.
Badass!
BUDDY WAS GOD
@GATTAPADRE I agree that Cream had alot going on, but I also agree with Buddy when he says that the blues came from the US. When ever we hear something we think is new we should probably wonder where it came from and check that music out and we can all grow just a little bit more Have a great day!
