There have been some who have questioned my number 10 choice on this "Fatal" car chase list, citing that the stunt woman Heidi Von Beltz survived her accident. I had questioned this choice myself while creating this list, but given her permanent disability and having continued medical problems for the remainder of her life and her death came at a much younger age than on average, I had decided that her tragic end came as a direct result of her life changing accident and as such, her story was included to this list.
Fun Fact that you might not know: Melanie Griffith and Heidi were close friends and when filming "Something Wild", Melanie introduced Ray Liotta to Heidi. She was a paraplegic at this point, and they became a couple. I don't know exactly how long their romance lasted, but Ray was a super guy and took care of Heidi and was there for her through thick & thin. At some point, Heidi told Ray he needed to move on with his life and they separated. I heard this story way back in the early 90s I think and up until that point I wasn't too impressed with Ray Liotta but this made the difference in how I looked at him as a human being.
The death of H.B. Halicki was not only a tragic loss for his family and fans but it was also a devastating blow to movies because we can’t only speculate what his career might have given us. My father took me to see Gone In 60 Seconds when it was first released here in the United Kingdom and that night has been the most memorable of my entire movie fandom life.
I was actually in Cannonball Run 1981 on the square in Covington Georgia when Burt landed the plane to get beer, I am one of the folks standing on the corner as Dom walks behind the plane & I was on the square in 1978 when Dukes started filming the 1st chase scene & I can be seen in front of the red store as the General comes sliding onto the square being chased by Roscoe & again in 1992 when my '78 Ttop Z28 was used in a chase scene in Heat of the Night & got to see a lot of the filming of Smokey & the Bandit
That stunt woman who died in Deadpool 2, being used simply because she was black because the actress she was doing stunts for was black, is something I'm shaking my head at. If the better stunt woman was white, they should've used her, and this girl would still be alive. They could've used CGI to make her appear black. It's about who's better for the job and safety. That should've been the priority.💁🏿♂️
In this instance I have to agree that race should not have been the primary decision when it comes to a stunt, its should always be safety first and last. As I researched this incident, veteran stunt people were opposed to the idea of getting a novice to do stunt work. However someone decided or convinced the filmmaker otherwise, fearing they would get bad press if they went the safe rout. Somehow someone thought "Motorcycle racing is the same as motorcycle stunt riding." And unfortunately, I agree with the stunt people who say that this was the wrong decision as it proved to be a fatal one. A tragic loss.
@@whitebloodism I meant a real stunt women CGI'd over to give her a similar appearance...but yeah, some type of makeup over her to give the same complexion...and I certainly wouldn't consider that a bad thing, as we're talking about a particular situation where we're simply matching ones skin as a stunt double. when they say movies are fake and then you come accross of these real accident happened to real people and then you think of Richard Hammond who skipped death twice
Movies are fake, filming is not. A movie set is a hazardous environment even if it's not on the road, with all the cables and heavy machinery and constantly changing setups. Even basic stuff can be more dangerous when done in front of a camera. For example: walking on a dirt road is a fairly safe experience for most people. But when you get the instruction from a director to not look where you step (so your walking looks better on camera), the difficulty level raises. And if you also wear some shitty costume boots that you never worn before, tripping and falling will be a real risk. And that's just walking. Stunts are serious business. Even with maximum preparation they can go wrong.
I was familiar with the on set accidents of Cannonball Run and Gone in 60 Seconds 2 reading online. Dar Robinson was the top stuntman of the industry. One of Robinson's movie was with Reynolds in Stick where he did an incredible stunt off the building doing an end scene with Reynolds. Without an airbag in fact. Movie stunts is risky and they do go wrong causing injury or death.
Thx for this yet interesting and also very very sad and tragic video! Most of these sad evens I already knew but only because I am a kind of „stunt nerdy“ person 😉 Since my youth I had a huge interest in movies and especially on the „Behind the scenes“ aspect of movies. Dar Robinson was one of my stuntman hero’s, and I even had the plan to become a stuntman especially after watching „The Fall Guy“ TV series back then when it came out. the reason simpler stunts see more accidents is sadly because they are simpler and considered to be less dangerous, leading to more people to be around and less safety precautions and less consideration for safety, making them irronically, more dangerous then big and dangerous stunts.
