    This is a a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee L.This three-row six or seven passenger SUV is in a class all its own. Now with a 3rd row, the Grand Cherokee L offers more space for your family. It has an elegant, sophisticated and modern exterior design with an updated signature seven-slot grille, slimmer LED headlights and taillights, sleek horizontal LED fog lights and a larger front fascia. It combines 4x4 capability with an upscale design along with 6-7-passenger seating; this SUV is an exciting addition to the category. The Jeep selec-terrain traction management system is standard in Canada on Limited models and up. This system features 5-terrain modes and gives you the confidence to tackle different road conditions like snow covered city streets or backcountry hills. The Jeep Quadra lift air suspension system is standard on the Overland, which we are testing and Summit models. It adds up to 4.17 inches of lift span lowering the vehicle at highway speeds while offering off-road modes for increased best in class ground clearance of 10.9 inches on the Summit Edition. This system also features electronic adaptive damping that automatically adjusts the suspension to changing road conditions. The Grand Cherokee L has two feet or 24 inches of water fording capability and three available 4x4 systems. The simple to use Quadra-Trac I automatically switches between two-wheel and four-wheel drive for optimal efficiency. Quadra-Trac II offers low range capability and Quadra-Drive II offers you excellent off-road capability. There are two engine options a 3.6L Pentastar V6 with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 290 horsepower, 257 lb-ft of torque and a 5.7L Hemi V8 with 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. The V8 can tow 7200 pounds and the V6 6200 pounds. The Grand Cherokee L comes with quite a few standard features like 6-passenger seating, Uconnect 5 with an 8.4” touchscreen, a 10.25” digital instrument cluster, heated leather faced front seats, power driver and passenger seats, 2nd row heated captain’s chairs and a power liftgate. The larger 10.1” touchscreen is standard on the Summit trim but available on the base trim if you add a package for $1,495 CAD. The panoramic sunroof is standard one up from the base model but you can add it for $1,995 CAD to the base trim. To get ventilated fronts seats and a wireless charger, add the luxury tech package for $1,995 CAD. Some may not love the choice of piano black in this interior, but other features like the grey wood trim is very elegant and the use of soft materials and leather throughout creates a modern design. The digital driver display and larger touchscreen elevates the cabin to compete with luxury brands like the BMW and Audi. When it comes to space the GCL keeps up with the competition but it’s not best in class. The 3rd row is spacious offering more than the Acura MDX and Audi Q7, but less than the Infiniti QX60, Volvo XC90, BMW X7, Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade. Overall cargo capacity is excellent in the GCL offering 84.6 cubic feet of space. It is less than the MDX, X7, Telluride and Palisade but more than the QX60, Q7 and XC90. Space behind the 3rd row is never huge in these vehicles, the GCL falls short against the competition with 17.2 cubic feet. The MDX, QX60, Telluride and Palisade all offer more but, the Q7, XC90 and X7 are all less.

    Great review! I’ve been waiting for the new Grand Cherokee redesign for awhile now . As a 3 Grand Cherokee prior owner: 2016 Pentastar , 2018 5.7 , SRT 2019 and 4 Tesla Performance owner , I am excited for the fully electric but will settle for the hybrid for now. I’ll wait upon that review and hope it a strong performer !!

    I special ordered a ‘14 Summit 5.7L and have 166,000+mi on it and still love it like the day I bought it! But the “L” is growing on me. I agree the front grill should be a little taller though. I’m going for 300Kmi so the 2nd Gen “L” would probably be my next move 🤣. Thanks for the professional yet relaxed review! You two are polished and easy to watch!

    I "wanted" a wrangler until I drove one. I am 6'5". Just too small for me to fit comfortably on long drives, and very expensive for a bare bones off roader. I looked at a Cherokee. Love the look, but the factory has shut down due to chip shortage and its due for a redesign. I ended up with a Grand Cherokee L Limited with lux group II and all other options. I love it. Can run fire roads, ghost town wagon trails and horribly broken Montana "pavement" and it is supremely comfortable. Coming out of a 2014 Camaro, I can't believe how good this thing is.

    I think you guys nailed it. We had been waiting for your review but pulled the trigger a few weeks ago. Looked at just about all other 3-rows out there. Not much that can tow and provide a nice almost high end interior. I really like the functionality of the infotainment system and how it blends into the dash. I agree too much piano black but other than that no complaints. I’m even ok with the dial shifter (which was a deal breaker for the new MDX with a push button). Would have liked the 4xe version but not sure if this will be available as a 3-row model.

    Just picked up a '23 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Overland with the 5.7L V8. We test drove both the V6 and V8, and the V8 was by far the superior choice for the smooth power delivery. You do take a hit in fuel economy, but I felt that was worth the extra fuel.

    • @highoctaneadventure

      I was looking for a regular length and a lower trim with the Hemi coming form a last gen V6 GC, but found a great deal on a 2022 L with the Hemi in Summit Reserve trim with a bit higher than average km (mostly highway). I was sold on the drive/handling for such an off-road capable vehicle. Agree about the Hemi. The V6 is more than adequate for sure but for the higher trims, the smooth power delivery of the Hemi with that fantastic ZF transmission gives it that luxury feel. The new hurricane engine should be a good replacement for the V8 in the future.

    I agree with Zack 100% on the looks, the grill needs to be taller and the lower intake needs to be scaled down and the overall side view is kind of blah so it being longer is not a great look. As for air suspension, I haven’t heard anyone say they love it when it’s -40 and the suspension is hard as a rock. I was going to buy a Grand Cherokee Trailhawk but the dealer talked me out of it partly due to the air suspension so I went with the Altitude. I just couldn’t wait for the GC refresh. There’s still companies out there that specialize in converting these air suspensions back to a conventional setup so that should say something.

    14:51 I appreciate your question and get why many people would feel that way. My answer is: The benefits of the top level GC off-road capability in my beloved “Mall Crawler” and the GCL appeals to someone like me. I live in NY near the top of a mountain 1mi up a 1 lane private gravel road. Snow storms can exceed QL2 height even though the bottom of the Mt gets a mere 6”. Neighbors get stuck in the drainage ditch trying to get home - and call me to tow them out. And on occasion I have had to take “alternate route” to avoid a fallen tree during the many rain storms we see. Yes, occasional and seasonal but with a 3yr old onboard it is nice to have the capability if an unplanned event or unexpected storm hits on the way home.

    I can’t wait to see one. They definitely look somewhat stretched. I don’t think, at least not in this case, the extra length was needed. Design or off-road performance-wise. But from the front and rear ... it looks like a Jeep. Well done them. The older classic Subaru Outbacks ( Limited’s w/bigger power plant) had a McIntosh sound system - I doubt it provided, even remotely, the same quality of sound ... and definitely not 19 speakers! Thanks for the video.

    • @Natethegreat200c
      @Natethegreat200c 2 роки тому +1

      You say they shouldn’t have added the length? You want a three row in the same size of the two row? Makes no sense. They HAD to make it long. It’s a three row.

    What they don't say about the air suspension. I got an overland a couple years back. It is cool, it drops down to like 3 inches when you park, and lifts up to almost 1 foot in the highest setting which you can control. The catch is when you go over 25 mph, which is all the time, it automatically drops into Aero mode which is a significantly lower ride height than a standard grand Cherokee. I live in Minnesota, and I'm going 40mph in a snow storm and cheaper model Cherokees are passing me with ease because I'm plowing snow with my bumper. Also in 4wd that v6 is working hard to stay up to speed. Not enough power for that drivetrain, get the hemi option you'll want it. Surprisingly you get the same mpgs, but actually better mpg with the hemi in 4x4. No air suspension available......I say no problem. It is a softer ride, but your ride height is is that of a sedan. Kind of tricks people because you get an suv thinking your sitting up higher, but with the air ride your not.

    Just bought 2023 grand Cherokee limited
    First, we had an issue with our trunk door being unevenly closed, which more likely will cause water damage, they fixed it under the warranty but it was not an easy task going through with dealerships, customer service, or the service center. Anyways after that issue was fixed, AC blew out hot air randomly, had to make an appointment with the dealer, and had to talk to Jeep customer care, going back and forth 8 times to the dealer, but it has not been fixed. All they saying is sorry, and to be patient, all I did was be nice and patient with the dealers and Jeep customer care. It’s been my worst nightmare won't buy anything from them ever again! Bbb

    Just dropped off a 2 day rental of a Grand Cherokee L. Decent power and some very nice features (comfortable, adjustable and massaging front seats a huge plus) but for a vehicle costing $75K there’s way too much hard plastic in the interior, especially on the centre console and door panels. The button layout was very confusing as well - e.g no apparent way to control volume or audio select from the steering wheel buttons. And while the wireless Apple CarPlay is nice, do NOT use the wireless charging pad with a MagSafe iPhone/iPhone case. I was driving along using google maps when suddenly I lost CarPlay connectivity. Turns out the phone had overheated on the charging pad and shut down!

    does the under 300 numbers on HP and Torque suffice for a massive vehicle such as this, especially compared to how a lot of competition is over 300hp and close to 350torque? I like the luxury feeling in Jeep in both the L and the standard version. where does the L get more space, the rear seats or elsewhere? I will be in the market next year for a 3 row SUV and your reviews are going to be massively helpful. Right now it's the Palisade and starting to consider the atlas after realizing it actually offers the most 3rd row space. in my opinion, standard bench mid row and 2 seater 3rd row is the most comfortable configuration. thoughts?

    That’s hugely disappointing that it only has 84 cu ft of cargo space behind the first row. My wife wants something larger than our QX60 for the next vehicle (I think it’s 78 cu ft), and sits higher (less car like). I thought this GC L might be it being a Jeep. Something a bit smaller than a Yukon/Armada size that still might sit a bit higher like a traditional SUV. Atlas isn’t an option for me at this point (just found the interior cheap looking - not sure if it got updated, and not so sure of VW quality lately). The new GW’s C pillar is just so awkward looking - hopefully it looks better in person - but right now I wouldn’t even consider it (well, and that price is ridiculous). Looks like Armada might still be our next pick. Great review as usual. :-)

    While these Cherokees have a much more softened design than the old 'truck' look they used to have, they aren't as homogenized as some of their competition. They've retained some of their 'squareness' which I like. They look a little too much like a Durango tho, but then 'Chrysler' has always put out various models under different names and Badges with minor differences between models.
    I agree with you about Piano Black...the stuff is horrible.

    You missed the boat there on interior cargo space.. "you should just added the few words " because of its ability to have Off road chops added at some future date, let alone what it has now. Otherwise good job.

    We just got one as our main family car, the Summit Reserve. I agree with the competitor list for the most part, but would remove the Durango and replace it with the Ford Explorer. IMO, every trim below Overland competes with the Explorer and Telluride. And I believe the upper trims compete with the MDX and QX60. Finally, the maxed out Summit Reserve competes directly with the Lincoln Aviator. I say that because we shopped the Aviator first because of it's combination of size, power and luxury. The GCL Summit Reserve w/ the Hemi V8 matches the Aviator in it's own Reserve trim shot for shot, all at about $7K less than the Aviator comparably built. What sold us on the GCL aside from cost was the car seat tilt function on the 2nd row, which makes it ideal for small children. The Aviator doesn't have that feature. This is where the QX60 competes as it has the same car seat tilt. And its around $3K less than the GCL, while offering roughly the same luxury experience. Where the GCL beat the QX60 is power and rear bias/driving dynamics. Summed up, the GCL simply doesn't fall down in any category.

    Might sounds crazy but one of the several reasons I went with a fully loaded Telluride over this is that I have more faith in the Telluride's reliability over Jeep.

    • @mrdelaney5169
      @mrdelaney5169 13 днів тому

      Not crazy was also considering the same but after driving both back to back the jeep ride quality was noticeably better (quieter and smoother) which is due to better quality suspension and windows/doors.

    To me this looks better than the Wagoneer and both are 7 seaters and 8 cylinders; Reliability doesn´t match FCA - STELLANTIS :p

      The Grand Cherokee L is equivalent to Acadia/Traverse/XT6. The Wagoneer is equivalent to Yukon/Tahoe/Escalade… The Grand Wagoneer is equivalent to Yukon XL/Suburban/Escalade ESV

    Quick note. This is a new platform and not shared with the Durango anymore. FCA hit the drawing board to develop a platform that will eventually accommodate an electric power train.

      @@charlesdr1981 A rework of the Giorgio. The Durango is still based on the Mercedes platform like the current Grand Cherokee. The newly launched Grand Cherokee (today actually) moves to the new platform.

    Ok had to add my 2 cents after having a JEEP GCL as a rental for a week. Our rental was a Limited V6 without any options, car had about 7000km on it. First of all, I didn't know that such a poor transmission exists in modern times. Clunky shifts, poor shift timing, slow down shifting all plagued out rental. Not to mention with the start stop activated, the jolt you would get everytime the driveline engaged after the engine restarted. Awful. On top of that, the door pockets were very shallow and why do the interior lights only stay on for about 60sec.. hardly enought time to get two screaming kids buckled in to their car seats in a dark parkade. Oh, lets not forget the clunk from the front end over bumps(possibly failed shocks), sad on such a new car.
    Otherwise, the suspension calibration was nice. comfortable and compliant. the seats were comfy also, i set them once and didn't have to re-adjusted them. interior quality was nice as well. There are better 3 row options out there luckily

    Thanks for the review Andrea and Zack. At that price point and with the questionable long term quality I can see this vehicle being on the used car lot in 2 or 3yrs after the lease is up(with significant depreciation). I'd put my money in the bank of Lexus.
