    i test drove a GC Limited last week. I thought it was an exceptional daily driver, liked the visibility and the interior.
    I thought the V6 pentastar was very smooth and had all the power one needs. No complaints about the engine, I liked it.

    I ordered mine with a 5.7L Hemi 12/23/21 and picked it up 4/21/22. Love it. Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7 L Hemi. All the goodies. More on the way as soon as available. Cold air intake, Kooks long pipe 3 inch headers are waited to be found out how to build them to the the new 5.7 L Hemi. Interior is outstanding! Comfortable! Love the messaging seats! Love it! 👍😀

    It's a gorgeous but understated design. I like it a lot and it will age nicely. Jeep does Jeeps really, really well (with a few exceptions). People talk a lot about your video quality (and rightly so) but I think your writing is very good too. Concise, informative, throughout with just the right touch of humor, it's a great narrative for all your well-executed visuals. Back to the Jeep. Who ever is in charge of the brand, they are steering it in the right direction. They just need some entry-level products that are as lust-worthy as their top-end products.

    Where I live (New England) these are everywhere. I have not owned one but I have driven a few. I love them. Most people I know never, ever take them off road. That goes double for Wranglers! I hate the Wrangler on the road but I love it off road. Especially when I was in Colorado. Great review, Tom.

    This Jeep is so comfortable. With the higher upgrade packages. You get heat and cold lumber massage seats.
    I have nerve damage in my tailbone and so I need a really comfortable seat.
    The massage systems in other brands have.
    None compared to the Jeep.
    I fell asleep in it.
    So if you have a bad back and want to drive longer then 3o min get one.

    Ad guy here who worked on the introduction of the brand new Cherokee XJ for model year 1984. Research at the time indicated that drivers used 4WD just 2% of the time, on average. I bought a plain-Jane base model under the supplier plan for about $11K and I loved it. Fast forward 40 years, I see an attractive vehicle, but the high price points seem at odds with the idea of taking it off-road and really using all the on-board tech. For many, looking cool is a perfectly acceptable substitute for actually being cool. Thanks Tom, excellent review, as always.

      I think these things whenever I drive something like this.

    • @BradleyMunsen
      @BradleyMunsen 2 роки тому +2

      Fair point, but respectfully, it really all depends on your overall needs. In a climate with snowy winters, like Minnesota, 4WD is what I consider to be essential. Do lots of people survive the winters with just 2WD? Yes, but they're miserable, struggling to get traction on fresh snowfall, and they are limited in what conditions they can legitimately move around in, especially with deep snow accumulations. At the end of the day, 4WD is one of those things where you rarely actually need it, but when you need, you need it, and you'll regret not having it. I personally will never not own a 4WD vehicle as long as I live in this climate.
      I've owned three Jeeps, soon to be on my fourth, and there are many reasons I prefer Jeep over other brands, which I won't bore you with, but I will tell you that the off-roading abilities, while impressive, have never really a selling point for me personally, as I rarely leave the pavement. It's more about the style and driving experience, with the added benefit of self-sufficiency in the winter.

    I just think Jeep really screwed up with the pricing. A base 4x4 Grand Cherokee is like 43k, 45 for the L, while vehicles like Passport/Pilot, Telluride, Expolrer are like 6k cheaper. Jeep wants to think people don't cross shop them but they really do. You'll be paying 65k for an Overland or a Summit (don't get the Overland unless you're getting the off road tech - the Summit has more for essentially the same price) or nearly 70k for a Rerserve, over that for an L. With the V6. Add a few grand for the V8, and don't even get me started on the Plug In (yeah yeah tax credit - that's after the fact). Most MB GLEs, X5s, Q7s, etc. go for around 62-67k. The GC does have some nice looking materials front and center and cool features like massage seats, but come on. For that kind of money, I'm getting a GLE350. Stellantis is lunatics if they think this will work once the chip shortage ends. I'll wait to see $10,000 incentives and delaers selling them at 15% off.

    • @hellkitty1014
      @hellkitty1014 2 роки тому +4

      For $62K, all of those European models will be stripped base models with very few options and vinyl seating(save the Audi). The GC w/ Hemi is right around $68K and has options unavailable on even fully loaded X5s and GLEs. GCs have always been expensive, yet people always buy them.

    • @benjaminkohl342
      @benjaminkohl342 2 роки тому

      @@hellkitty1014 You're right, people do buy them. That being said, for $68k I could get a GLE350 with Mb-Tex that actually feels nicer to me then the leather, drivers assist, AR Nav, ventilated front seats and heated rear, and the sport styling. All I need. That would make me much happier.

    • @JGR53W
      @JGR53W 2 роки тому +3

      I went to look for a fully loaded telluride and they wanted 20% over list. Which seemed crazy. Through Coscto I was able to get a 2022 Jeep GCL below sticker. Which, for what's going on, seems OK.

    • @hellkitty1014
      @hellkitty1014 2 роки тому +1

      @@JGR53W yep. Between Costco or financing through Chrysler Cap, you can get below sticker. We've seen loaded Overland and Summits for $1-4K under MSRP. Not terrible considering the market.

    • @benjaminkohl342
      @benjaminkohl342 2 роки тому

      @@JGR53W That's just a sign of how overpriced they are - even in this crazy market, they have to be under sticker to be market value. I'm sure the discount put it in line with what it's competitoin is selling for with the mark up.

    I'd say it looks good, but not as good as the previous generation did. The night vision and rear view mirror/camera are really nice touches. Some of the buttons on the close-ups looked cheap to me. The V-6 has been around forever, so it should be reliable. BUT, it is really slow for a $65,000 vehicle. And there are two higher trim levels, so I'm almost afraid to ask what those cost.

    They should have kept the zHigh Altitude package with 22 and carried over to the L. I liked the greyed out accents of the HA but they seemed to tone down some of the chrome for this generation.
    For Summit model customers make a note…..apparently no single color option…all colors except black will be two tone…..Black roof and whatever the base color is. Great ride and for ojnly $2K price difference I would recommend the L model. Longer wheelbase makes a difference and the times when you might need the extra space….you will probably really need it.

    Grand Cherokee prices are MUCH higher than just four years ago. My dad's '18 Trailhawk started at $43,295. It jumped to $47K by '21 and this new one is $54,630 (the current price seems to change on a weekly basis). That’s over $11,000 more now! New platform, more refined, but practically, there's not a lot of difference in capability. And the drivetrain is carry-over!
    Plus, in '18 they didn't charge for paint ($400 now), and destination charge jumped from $1100 in ’18 to $1800 now!

    Maybe I have to see it in the flesh, but I thought the old one was a lot better looking. This looks a lot more like an Equinox or some other boring midsize to me, presumably because the profile is so different. The old one was distinctive, this feels derivative. The Velar and Cayenne are the only ones pulling off the brawny, muscular, capable midsize thing to me now.

      I really think the outgoing GC looks great, this one depends on a few things. I also feel it has much more presence than an Equinox.

      Eric, how are you like it, still? I just ordered a 2023 JGC Summit. So scared because I love the look of it, but I am aware that Jeep is not as reliable as other manufacturers. If you build the new Grand Cherokee on the Jeep website, you can choose 2-row or 3-row, and yes the Grand Cherokee and NOT the Grand Cherokee L, but almost all reviewers keep separating the 2-row new Grand Cherokee from the 3-row Grand Cherokee L...any chance any of you reviewers could discuss the difference between the 3-row Grand Cherokee and the 3-row Grand Cherokee L?
    Ok I think when you click on the 3-row option it automatically changes it to the Grand Cherokee L, but it seems like a weird way to do that on a website that also has the Grand Cherokee L vehicle separate from the Grand Cherokee.

    It is amazing we don’t get a review of Laredo or even Limited trims. I want it reviewed with base suspension. It is a good vehicle but what’s with lack of colors? No blues or greens or beige? And all that black gloss? Way overpriced.

      There are some reviews on UA-cam with the Limited trim. From what I recall, the reviewers who only drove the Limited had good things to say about ride comfort, but those who had also tried units with the air suspension all said it's noticeably superior.

  • @stevepowsinger733

    He doesn’t compare this model to the others. The lower trim Limited with options captures many of the high end goodies but you have to go with Overland and up to get luxury. Add to the Limited the panorama roof, 10” screen with Nav and improved audio is enough for most buyers at about $53k. Still, the higher end models with their the air suspension negates the need for running boards ($1 K) as the 4 x 4 sits high.
    The vehicle automatically shifts into Park should you try to move with a door ajar, a “what the heck?” surprise.
    The turner on SiriusXM can start to spin wildly should you change channels too fast.
    The satellite reception might disappear now and then for no reason whatsoever.
    This is a heavy vehicle so, lacking a hybrid option, it doesn’t get great mileage.
    The V-6 has pep and the eight gears shift smoothly.
    You might pay a premium to get one but not nearly as much add-on as a Telluride. With gas prices soaring these big vehicles won’t be selling as easily.
