Amazon Basics makes really good fleece, puffer vest, polos, very surprisingly, around that $15 mark. Fits well, can be fancied up even if I can afford 60 a garmet, why not put the rest towards health and experiences 😊

Thanks for touching on this topic I appreciate it very much because, for a very long time, I have been giving a lot of thought to making high-end men's clothing, at very affordable prices with the current trend here in the state where I live many of the major malls are closing down and being demolished so I see there is a niche for turning back the hands of time and providing a service where people can once again visit a mom and pop store and actually touch the merchandise and receive top-notch service and shopping experience, again thanks for highlighting this subject, in answer to your question never been one to support cheaper quality made items, fast-fashion trends or disposable clothing.

Great modern fashion "history" in a nutshell. As a 55 year old I remember the first time wearing a nice suit while living in New York in 2000 after I received my graduate degree from NYU. I visited a real posh building in Manhattan with not much in my wallet being a "recent" graduate but my professional sharp appearance literally "opened" doors for me as older doormen greeted me with the utmost "courtesy and respect" while opening doors for me. I then realized how much so appearance plays in life despite ethnicity, race or gender .❤😊🎉💯.

I’m glad to see your vlog again. My wardrobe is relatively classic peppered with a couple of “trendy” pieces. Baseball style jackets are having a moment so my collection is getting a well earned airing due to the persistent cool weather we’ve having in LA. Once the weather does warm up I’m breaking out the cardigans as a transition from spring to summer. BTW I’m a little wary of SEIEN. I see their promotions pop up advertising their ridiculously cheap prices. However, if you’ve tried them I guess I’ll give them a try as well. Stay well.👍🙏😎

I recently went to a Dillard's clearance center( basically leftovers from last season) and held a $400. cashmere sweater. It was like kissing golden tears from the face of The Madonna. It was marked down to $170. I sighed loud enough to startle a passerby and put it back on the rack. I love quality, I buy nice Allen Edmond shoes at Goodwill, and pick up high end dress shirts made in London for $4 you just have to familiarize yourself with brands and be smart. nothing on Shein or temu fits a 52" chest. most fashion stops at a 38 waist, trust me I know.

Like all things, cost vs benefit. Since fashion is a moving target, I aim for the slower and pay accordingly to the value I deem and assign it. Channels like this are auxiliary tools I use to sharpen my slowly changing senses. I find great value buying inexpensive clothes online that help me look great while I'm getting covered in dog. Cheap, fast fashion has its place...for my purposes anyway. I don't expect it to perform and I'm not disappointed if it goes out of style or is ruined. You won't catch me wearing disposables for formal occasions.

My parents weren't well off, and I wore the same jacket from aged 11 to aged 14. That was awkward because I did a lot of growing. These days I'm probably shrinking, but I've got a lot of clothes that are reasonably classic and don't look particularly un-stylish, even though they're 10 years old. Hell, I've got shoes I had when I was in my 20s - 40 or 50 years old good quality, resoled a number of times, looked after, and still looking good.

I used to wear Express almost exclusively when I was in my twenties. Without name dropping, now I usually stick with quality, kind of expensive, old money brands with minimum branding and logos. I buy things to last. I don't follow trends at all, but what I think looks polished and appropriate for my age and personal style. Thanks for the great content.

Great video idea and video John! I was disappointed when I heard this last week. Every now and then I still find some good items at Express. It didn’t surprise me though - it feels like they have 40% sales daily, and they can’t be a sustainable business model. Along this topic - it is apparent to me that both Abercrombie and Banana Republic have made a comeback. Regarding quality vs lower quality, I think you know my thoughts. I buy some higher end clothing items but also buy some affordable options - and know exactly the difference in how long they may last and in what Im buying. I will say I have bought a lot of really nice pieces from Express that have lasted a long time. One thing I have questioned myself on - I have bought an item from Todd Snyder and a similar item from BR. The BR is often 1/3 of the price of TS, and it is hard for me to tell a huge difference in the quality. Makes me wonder if sometimes it comes down to name brand. I will say I have bought some items from Suit Supply - and have been impressed with their clothing. Sidenote - I bought the blue shirt you had on in a previous video from Amazon and think it’s great. Anyways, I’m done! Cheers John!

Ultimately it comes down to WHO you are trying to impress with your clothing choices, yourself, your co-workers, your GF or Wife. I'm long past trying to impress anyone. I don't care what someone else thinks of my clothing choices. I wear what I like and what I find comfortable not trendy. Do I like to look nice and like getting a compliment once in a great while, Yes, who doesn't. But I'm not going out of my way to impress people I don't know or don't care about and who I will never see again, why what's the point. I do like your content, I find it gives me ideas on what I think might look nice on me.

Another good video with "food" for thought. I don't tend to follow trends but rather purchase classic items. I may have two dozen dress shirts that I wear casually that are made up of solids, stripes or small patterns. I may have 10 pairs of jeans of various colors that can be paired with any number of those dress shirts. I guess that I am never quite "on trend" or "off trend". To me, that's the definition of a classic wardrobe. I do have a couple of small floral print shirts that I can wear with any number of sweaters and the micro pattern does not stand out screaming "dated". I tend to buy quality items, especially when they're on sale. For example, I might buy $100 dress shirt when it's on sale for $45-55. In this manner I have been able to develop a really nice wardrobe for an expenditure that I can afford. I certainly couldn't own two dozen dress shirts at 100 to $125 a piece. I must admit however, that having watched your channel and purchased more wardrobe items now presents me with a dilemma every morning when I look at my closet and have to make a whole series of decisions. What pants, paired with what shirt and or sweater, which socks, which shoes, which Anson belt etc. Life was much simpler when I had one pair of jeans, one black or navy blue pair of pants, one dark brown pant, black and brown socks and either a black or brown belt. 😊

    Interesting video.
Of course when you buy fast fashion, you know it's not top quality. But you follow some trends without spending too much.
I like to mix fast fashion with better quality stuff, such as Italian clothing.
There are trend cycles and sometimes there are some trends that I don't like, such as oversize clothing (something from the past in my opinion, trendy 20 or 30 years ago).
It's annoying if distressed/ripped jeans are out of style, because I like my distressed jeans 😁

  • @karlr750

Because of the low quality of fast fashion, I've started purchasing certain items *preowned* from eBay or Etsy. A good vintage item of clothing will outlast a new, fast-fashion item ... even though it already has some wear.
    *Example:*
A year ago, I found a tweed overcoat on eBay. I researched the brand (G.A. Dunn & Co.) and learned that it had a good reputation for quality. After purchasing it, I began to wonder why every online reference referred to "Dunn & Co." rather than "G.A. Dunn & Co." After a lot of digging, I discovered that the founder (G.A. Dunn) named the company after himself. His heirs dropped the "G.A." from the name ... back in *1939.*
I own a tweed overcoat that has remained in terrific condition, even after *80+ years.* That's not going to happen with fast fashion. This overcoat will outlast me.

I stopped caring about comments on my fashion years ago. I'm 43.
All the negative comments I received were from 20's men. I took the comment, and said "When you're older, you'll realise that a $800 sneakers don't mean sh*t. Plus, if you're emotionally and financially invested In wearing sneakers? You are too far gone for help."If you dress in fashion labels... you're on your own.
My older sister told me when I was 23, style yourself with good quality basics with a few expensive statement items, like blazers, accessories, and premium quality shoes.
    It's never steered me wrong.
I saw a 23 yo guy at a bar recently. He had on these God ugly Balenciaga sneakers, and I asked him about them.
He said, "thank you. Most people don't ask me about them." He continued to say what he paid for them, what he could sell them for, and how 'in demand' they were.
I said, "That's cool. Spend your money how you like. But, you do realise they are truly ugly shoes, right?"
A verbal argument ensued. I said, "Mate! Wait 10 years and you can get a custom pair of Italian loafers that will last you a decade for that type of money, and they will be timeless in style."
He didn't get it. Youth is wasted and makes fools of the young.

Whether fast fashion is good value or not, I can definitely say I'd be a bigger fan of your channel if you promoted less fast fashion. Especially today, there are many small brands that do make the effort to manufacture their clothes in Europe or America and offer styles similar to fast fashion. I'm a much bigger fan of those.
Regarding the point of trends changing quickly - I think if anybody 'buys a new wardrobe' every year, they're probably not watching your channel. It's really not necessary for me to say how bad a habit that is - both from a financial and an environmental perspective.
I'll finish by saying that, personally, I wear some pieces that are over 10 years old, and they didn't cost me 4 figures. Of course, you have to have a bit of an eye for trends, because some pieces do go out of style, but if you keep your style simple, there's no reason to not be able to wear clothing for many years, as long as it's still in good shape.

I just resubscribed. I was a VERY early subscriber to this channel when it was pretty small, but there was time after it grew when it seemed to loose it's core content and it got a little weird... it seems like you've refocused and put things back on track. And for the record, I have NO sympathy for Express. I wanted one of their sport coats so bad 2 years ago, but they wanted $350 for it. Insane for something made in some cheap overseas factory.

Was at the store Friday. Still a lot of clunky shoes and uhh what id describe as non manly clothes to put it nicely. Lots of flowers & rhinestones on men’s clothes….uh not for me.

I have to disagree with the on trend part. I think if you dress stylish and look good, you'll probably get treated differently. If you walk into a restaurant wearing a nice suit and looking good, you'll probably get better service. But being stylish and looking good doesn't necessarily mean dressing in the current trend.

I have to disagree with you, John. Now you’re right it’s a matter of personal preference. But I cannot justify paying money for a shirt or pair shoes that I know. I am not going to get a reasonable amount of where from. I was always taught the cheap man pays the most, and over the course of my six decades, I have found that to be very true.

“Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolderable that we have to alter it every six months." - Oscar Wilde.
Keeping up with trends is a losing game. It also holds you back from having your own signature style because you are inherently trying to mimic what somewhat else deems fashionable.
I won’t even get into the amount of waste it generates in our landfills.

The truth is America is much poorer, much less interested in looking good, fatter and more poorly groomed than past generations, a terrible state of affairs for clothes sellers

I’ve heard it pronounced a few different ways. A lawyer friend of mine was involved in a lawsuit them, and he told me it was pronounced, SHE-IN.

I have and always will stay away from fashion trends. I buy quality items that are classic style and fit well. I take care of my clothing, shoes and coats/jackets and buy just a few items each season. Fashion trends are an industry driven marketing scam to drive profits. The "trends" always revert back to the classic styles in short order. Trendy items are usually low quality disposable items that won't even last a season.
