I keep getting this request, the only problem I’m finding is there’s so much good info out there on them it’s hard to narrow it down into a video. But I’ll get it done 👍
The owner of the Steak House said right after the incident in an interview, that there was no reservation for Castellano and that they didnt know, that he was coming nor did they know, if the Steak house was even Castellanos destination. So is it really true, that they were meeting at the Steak house? Cause they could have simply just parked there and went somewhere else.
Joe Coffey, the NYPD official assigned to La Cosa Nostra NY claims Gotti and Gravano were not there. That it’s folklore to make them more mythological and they really were. Either way, this was one of the most carefully and error free hits in the history of the mafia in the USA.

Great history lesson. I was living in the Bronx then. I remember the killings. And at 5:30pm that was in the middle of rush hour. Enjoying your channel w/you driving around giving history
And afterwards they stopped at Bobby Van's Steakhouse for a celebratory drink and some appetizers just east on 46th street at the corner of Park Avenue which you passed while on your way over to Sparks. Bobby Van's Steakhouse is located at 230 Park Avenue in the Helmsley Building. Right where the traffic drives through the building, you can't miss it and they have great 30 day dry aged steaks and awesome bartenders serving perfectly mixed drinks. In fact the back room at Bobby Van's was always one of Bruce Cutler's favorite meeting places for conferences with clients and potential clients.
Drugs really did create a lot of rifts and wars in various mafias. The old guard, like Castellano and Angelo Bruno (head of the Philly Mob) among others, didn't want their guys taking part in the drug trade and trafficking which really started to ramp up in the 70s and 80s. Some younger guys didn't like that, so they went after the bosses.
You should mention that Paul Castellano was HATED by the Rank & File of his Family!....That made it easier for Gotti to know it would be a popular move on his part.
Before Gambino died, he named Castellano and Aiello Neil Dellacroce as bosses. Castellano started to neglect the Rank & File, while Dellacroce was definitely attuned to them. Gotti looked up to Dellacroce and thought that Castellano needed to go. Dellacroce ,honored the wishes of Gambino and put a halt tonangebendere actions. When Dellacroce passed away from cancer and Castellano did not show up to his wake, Gotti was furious and since his mentor was no longer around to keep him in check, orchestrated the infamous hit. That kinda covers that in a nutshell. But I think you know that part, it’s just that others may not be aware.
@@bullwinklejmoos Yes, what you have posted is all true. Another factor was the Rank & File resented the fact that Paul put very little time in "On the Streets", and did not have a good understanding of how to keep the "Street Guys" content. As a result they did not feel Paul deserve his spot as the new Boss which Dellcroce clearly did deserve. I did hear that Carlo Gambino did give Dellacroce control over some very lucrative businesses as a way to smooth things over a bit for passing him over to put Paul in power. In any case. Paul sealed his own fate.
He was mostly only hated by the Bergen Fish Club (Gotti) crew. He had a lot of heavy-hitter loyalists, too, like Nino Gaggi, Roy DeMeo, Westies Irish gang, Tommy Bilotti, and some more. The Bergen Club was terrified of those guys.
@@truthteller4442 From what I heard Paul was still hated in general by the rank and file. There is really no way Gotti, who only controlled one crew could have whacked Paul without knowing the other crews would go along....otherwise all those " loyalists" would have whacked him and his supporters out and installed another Boss.
You were parked exactly across from the light pole. His body was laying to the left of the light pole if you're standing in the street looking on to the sidewalk. He was not shot in front of the doors of the restaurant. It's certain camera angles from the sidewalk that makes it look like he's down there right next to that awning but that's not the case. The car pulled up right next to the light pole and he was shot right there
Mooney, another great video!Yes, the mob is still out there but it’s low key these days because of the better technology and stiffer prison sentences. Sparks is over priced and for obvious reasons. In my opinion, Peter Lugers is the place to go, or the Old Homestead.
Hmmmm.... Wonder if @ 8:06 if that was some mob guys making an escape after they pulled a hit or something.?.?.? WTF was that? No emergency flashers or anything.
found this by accident- best part??? 6.40 "look at this isn't Manhattan the best" it sure is and I live in London ohhhh - how can a guy be killed in broad "daylight" at 6pm in December :-)
I was 10 when this happened, I vaguely remember the news coverage. How did Gotti escape punishment from not asking for permission to take out his boss?
The reason Gotti got away with it is because amongst the 5 families Paul castellano looked down on the rest of the families and even those in his own Gambino family. He saw himself as a ruthless businessman rather than a street thug (which is silly) and it was silly because everyone secretly wished.him dead but no one could technically do it. It took someone so audacious to do it someone like Gotti. But as revenge the other mob families on the commission blew up gottis then right hand man Frank decicco who was the prime organizer and one the hit team.
If anyone here is intrested in hearing more about what actually transpired and how it all went down sammy the bull has a channel on you tube and he explains how it all went down , john asked sammy to set it up according to sammy , his podcast’s are actually pretty damn good .
If gotti would have not been arrested he would be NEXT. That's what that life is about. I get you then you get me and on and on and on. Just look at the HISTORY. lf you want to live like that be my guess. As for me no thank you. No matter how good the MONEY is. It's not worth it.
Yeah I remember this because me, my brother and belated brother-in-law was just coming from the westside highway near 30th street next thing I hear and see ambulances and squad car racing up on the upper level of the westside highway. And we were coming from Yonkers where I got my DJ mixer I became a DJ the night Paul castellano got murdered it was a Friday night as well.
Didn't Anthony Scala's gun jam on Castellano and Carneglia quickly took over and riddled him? Wasn't Joe Watts the fourth backup shooter? I heard an off-duty Corrections Officer was present, but decided to not use his weapon that day, due to the swift ferocity of the shooters.
Would love to come across the pond and check some of these mob spots myself for real, i bet the Sparks steak house is almost a tourist attraction by now??? I remember seeing it on the day or next day big Paul got shot down on the TV and im in the UK
I recall the news reports of the day, my favorite was the great Paul Harvey who said "There were about 20 witnesses, none of whom saw anything".
That’s not entirely true. The witnesses stated they all saw the same thing, 6-10 men in yellow coats and Russian style hats.. they just didn’t see any faces... they were smart in dressing all the same

The car pulled up right next to the light pole and he was shot right there
"Rocked New York" is right on money! This hit was insane! And every 6pm news and newspaper was on fire, back then....!
Wild to imagine what it was like
Had to go hv a drink at sparks when I arrived from Chicago a few years back. Mulberry st is epic. Gr8 video. ✌🏼🥃🥃👍🏻
excellent reporting
Can u do the Coney Island warriors next
Oh moooonneeee come out and plllaaaaay ayy Oh moooonnneeee come out and plaaayyy ay

Whoa! Sparks is still open!😳
Yes it is
Thank you for this...quite interesting 👍
👍
This is bad ass bro 😎🤘
In the photo of Paul, what does he have in his hand?
Big Paul and his bodyguard got sparked going to Sparks Steakhouse
Lol
Mooney, another great video!Yes, the mob is still out there but it’s low key these days because of the better technology and stiffer prison sentences. Sparks is over priced and for obvious reasons. In my opinion, Peter Lugers is the place to go, or the Old Homestead.
Never been to sparks but I would agree on the other two
I’d definitely put my money on Peter Lugers.
Old Homestead the best 🌟
Aftermath of a story everyone knows already. Badabing!
Can you do a video on the current state of the mafia
Jon was ratting on him on them tapes they had....it goes both ways but no1 ever talks about that
Great video, I walked past this location countless times when I worked in Manhattan.
Thanks for showing us buddy , they certainly did a number on them
Hmmmm.... Wonder if @ 8:06 if that was some mob guys making an escape after they pulled a hit or something.?.?.?
WTF was that? No emergency flashers or anything.
Some people just drive like they own the road lol
Mooney Mooney. 🌙 ey
I tried figuring it out before but couldn't find anything. Can anyone tell me what the hell was in castellanos hands in his death photo?
I never even noticed that he had something in his hand but now that you mention it I have no clue what it could be
@@MOONEYDashCam I think that it was a pair of leather gloves. That's what it looks like.
I remember when this hit happened. I lived in Denver. My hometown is Youngstown another crime town.
Hey Mooney, have you ever had a steak from there? It's supposed to one of the top restaurants in NY
found this by accident- best part??? 6.40 "look at this isn't Manhattan the best" it sure is and I live in London
ohhhh - how can a guy be killed in broad "daylight" at 6pm in December :-)
I was 10 when this happened, I vaguely remember the news coverage.
How did Gotti escape punishment from not asking for permission to take out his boss?
He had the backing of a lot of people behind the scenes
@@MOONEYDashCam makes sense. Another great video.
@@hugosophy wasn’t Frank the one who set up the meeting with Big Paul
Can you do a show on bernie madoff or jordan belfort or both
I have one on Jordan but i will for sure do Bernie
Love your work
Hey Mooney what do you think about Amityville
What I mean is that would be a great drive along
I have an amityville video on the amityville horror house!
@@MOONEYDashCam holy shit I need to be more observant. Thank you so much bro
If anyone here is intrested in hearing more about what actually transpired and how it all went down sammy the bull has a channel on you tube and he explains how it all went down , john asked sammy to set it up according to sammy , his podcast’s are actually pretty damn good .
I love his channel
@@MOONEYDashCam so do i , he’s has some intresting stories , and he doesn’t hold back anything

Hey just wanted to say You’re a stand up guy Gill.. Ain’t to many left it’s a must to salute one when it’s come across 🙏🏻🤝👍
Very generous of you Gill salude
Skinny Dom was the backup, he also killed the Uvas. Rob the Mob movie is based on them.
Enjoy your content brother!
If gotti would have not been arrested he would be NEXT. That's what that life is about. I get you then you get me and on and on and on. Just look at the HISTORY. lf you want to live like that be my guess. As for me no thank you. No matter how good the MONEY is. It's not worth it.
Great video
Love the pictures. Love seeing gangster videos so interesting. Bring on more!! Happy new year to u. Be safe!!
Merry Christmas Big Paulie!
John and Sammy could not have parked where you said. Wasn't it a 2 way street back in 1985? They would have had to park on the same side as Sparks.
You know what you’re probably right
Yeah I remember this because me, my brother and belated brother-in-law was just coming from the westside highway near 30th street next thing I hear and see ambulances and squad car racing up on the upper level of the westside highway. And we were coming from Yonkers where I got my DJ mixer I became a DJ the night Paul castellano got murdered it was a Friday night as well.
Crazy
@@MOONEYDashCam ain't it though
Didn't Anthony Scala's gun jam on Castellano and Carneglia quickly took over and riddled him? Wasn't Joe Watts the fourth backup shooter? I heard an off-duty Corrections Officer was present, but decided to not use his weapon that day, due to the swift ferocity of the shooters.
I’m not sure on the other stuff but I heard a cop was walking down the block heard the shots and walked the other direction and called it in
Brilliant my favorite video ,👌
Thanks Paul
Paul was meeting with his Captains, not other Bosses, Frank Diccico was one Captain who was already at Sparks.
Would love to come across the pond and check some of these mob spots myself for real, i bet the Sparks steak house is almost a tourist attraction by now??? I remember seeing it on the day or next day big Paul got shot down on the TV and im in the UK
right on man!!
I wonder what Big Paul’s favorite dish was there. If I ever dine at Sparks, I want that. 😂
That’s a good question I’d like to know too
Umberto calm house where got
Joey Gallo also in New York,New York
Very interesting video 👍
