The reason KitKat is crazy popular in Japan is because the name KItKat said in Japanese is pronounced Kitto Katto, which sounds close to Kitto Katsu, which means something like "You will surely win". So it's kinda a tradition to eat it before big exams and such as a little good fortune :) Kinda the same with Katsudon, meat over rice bowl :)

I laughed so hard when they brought out the Mrs Freshley's. Mrs Freshley's is the brand you get out of the motel vending machine at 2 AM because the motel was too cheap to stock it with Hostess or Little Debbie. It's the snack cake you get at the no-name truck stop in South Dakota after passing the billboard that said the next McDonald's is 200 miles up the road

Yep, the real Hostess (and their outlet stores) buggered out of everywhere about 20 years ago. The company and their "names" were bought by a foreign investment company after Hostess picked up the Dolly Madison line of products (Zingers etc) and that owner filed bankruptcy again in 2012. It was acquired by another holding company (Metropoulos) who sold off some of its brands to other companies, Little Debbie picked up the Drake Cakes line and Flowers Foods (tastykakes) picked up the Wonder Bread lines... In 2016 Hostess went public again and then 2020 happened, so now?
Hostess was sold again to Gores Holdings Inc. for 2.3 billion.

Thank you. I was just about to make that same comment. I am an American and I agree that Hershey's and most mass produced American chocolate tastes like puke and is disgusting, but the reason is that they add a preservative to the milk to transport over long distances. @@whiteowl4097 The distinctive taste of Hershey’s chocolate does not come from preservatives in the milk. Hershey’s uses a different chocolate production process invented by Milton Hershey, the founder of the company. That Hershey Process produces butyric acid, which gives Hershey’s chocolate a flavor not present in many other milk chocolates.

It’s been around for over 100 years and the original owner/creator of the Clark bar was an Irish Immigrant named after David L. Clark. Our guts contain bacteria which ferment indigestible starches and produce butyric acid as a waste product. When you vomit, you puke out a lot of these bacteria and the production of their fermentation process.
The thing is, Hershey's chocolate isn't the only thing on the market that contains this substance. Butter, yogurt, and cheese all include it as well. The "puke" thing about American chocolate is something Adam Ragusea made a video about. To recall the basics of what he said, there is a factor in how milk is inputted into the chocolate that results in a chemical change that can taste like vomit. Apparently Hersheys is a major example of such, and chocolate in other countries have a different method so don't have the "puke" flavour.

Hersheys chocolate process was invented to use fresh, cheap, easily available milk rather than condensed milk used in chocolate before. Speaking from the U.S., Euro chocolate is creamier & tastes so much better bc we’re not required to include Europe’s required % of cocoa solids to label something “chocolate.” Also, the U.S. gov subsidizes corn & soy, so corn syrup & soybean oil are cheap. Corn syrup is added in larger amts to a lot of foods to “compensate” (not) for the lower % of more $ ingredients like cocoa solids. Aaand food companies know sugar & salt are addictive, so our food tends to be loaded w/sugar & salt. ☹️

That is total nonsense, sorry to say. European chocolates tend to have added vegetable oils - thus the creaminess. And the percentage of chocolate in European chocolate tends to be much less than American chocolate. Ever wonder why many Europeans don’t care for dark chocolate? Because their palates are used to 40% or less cocoa solids.

I had no idea Clark had cups. Mind blown. The only Clark bar that I knew of used to be family owned in Pittsburgh, PA. They went out of business a while ago and it's been bought and sold a couple of times. You used to be able to find them around southwestern PA all the time, but since moving production to Altoona, PA I have yet to see one in SW PA stores. As for the bar, it was basically that cup but in bar form. If you're not a fan of American chocolate I suggest getting hold of some Sarris chocolate (manufactured in Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania). It's a much better chocolate than Hershey's. One of my mom's favorite candy bars that are hard to find are Zagnut bars. Crunchy peanut butter center like the Clark bar, but they are coated in toasted coconut. Some other odd or older candies to try are Zero bars, Chunky bars, Bit 'O Honey, 100 Grand bars, Goo Goo Clusters, Goetz's Caramel Creams, or Coconut slices. Some people rave over Circus Peanuts (fun fact, there are no peanuts in them whatsoever), but I find them to be disgustingly sweet. Oh, and the only place I see Mrs. Freshly items sold are gas stations...at least in my neck of the woods.

I grew up near the Clark candy bar factory outside of Pittsburgh. I used to love to drive by there because I could smell the chocolate and peanut butter. I love Clark bars because they're lightly crunchy like a Butterfinger but more peanut-buttery and less sugary. I'm not crazy about the Clark Cups, though. Clark bars are finally back in production, hopefully you guys will get the chance to try them. The only bad thing about Clark bars is something (I imagine getting too warm) can make the peanut butter crunch harden and it's almost like toffee candy. A good, fresh Clark bar will have a light, crunchy texture.
