      Excellent! ABC is a wonderful suspension when properly operational. Unfortunately, there are many many SLs that are past their prime and suspension has been severely neglected. And of course, the fact that ABC will fail no matter what. At this point in the cars history……the price is low and ABC cost is high. So respect to you and those who can and choose to maintain the system oneself. That’s the ONLY way to keep the cost down In maintenance. 👌🏾

    Good evening Sir, I am attempting to do this coilover in my garage ,with your instructional video information. The vehicle is a very , er , extremely nice 2003 SL 500 located near St Louis; with 56,000 miles. This SL was one of the group outfitted that year with everything Mercedes had to offer. Yes, some options ARE redundant, due to overlaping the same closely resembled features ; but then , it just adds to the factory Mercedes thing. Now to address a really quick FIX , if one makes the mistake , as I did , of NOT removing the 3 bolts from the pump pulley head assy and finds themselves waaaaaay down the road ; it is possible to simply and carefully , slide a punch thru the rim pulley slot , then turn the pulley to a pre- determined point which catches and solidify the rotation process in the same direction as the three removable pulley shroud screw. Once secured, it is possible; with a great deal of success, to easily remove those forgotten 3 screws in about 2-3 minutes without rebuilding your entire serpentine travel and it's tensioning system.

    • @goldelementautoworks

      Good job! Well done. I made that mistake only once. Never again. 😂 Not that’s the first thing I do before removing the belt. Otherwise…your technique is a good one. 👌🏾

    The stance on this one is just about perfect in my opinion and just about where I like my ride height set at. A nice two finger gap it looks to be 😉 One of these days you'll have to do the sway bars combined with good corner balance/alignment in order to get/feel the full scope of what these cars are capable of when set up 110%. Congrats on the SL55, they have tremendous potential for plenty of power.

    Did you find out where that steering wheel came from? I bought a 2000' CL500 a few months back I didn't even test drive it. I knew nothing about Mercedes or the CL's ABC suspension. 90.000 miles Silver a beautiful car. But first thing I did was flush the ABC system and change the filter. It's running 20's as well. I quickly realized that something wasn't right. Theres no leaks there was fluid in system so wasn't run dry I am of the opinion that the Accumulators are going bad especially the rear. So I'm getting them swapped for new and another new filter and flush. I'm hoping with fingers crossed that will be the fix. I noticed that pump you pulled out on that SL didn't have a filter cartridge like my CL does. The made changes to that pump over years and models I guess? I liked the Blk. Leather seats while keeping the silver base also. Great work you should be proud. Hats off to you for shooting video while conquering such a job!

    • @goldelementautoworks

      You do not need them. I’m saying this from personal experience as well as from those whom I’ve helped and assisted with their conversions. These cars would have to be lifted off two wheels in an off-road maneuver or uncontrollable condition in order for it to prove detrimental. I would recommend for tracking the car. • @goldelementautoworks
      @goldelementautoworks  9 місяців тому +1

      The handling feels superb. I have not, nor have I ever used swaybars after an installation. Myself and many others who have converted without swaybars, have not felt the need to add them. Adding them will stiffen the ride more. and prevent lean or corner lift on extreme maneuvers and at great speeds. Conditions that do not exist in normal driving conditions. If I were tracking the car and racing it, then I’d consider swaybars. It is a great ride without. And safe.

There is t much lift without swaybars due to it dampening and spring rates. If you go too soft on dampening….it may be lose some stiffness, but you gain too much float. So there is a fine line.

    • @goldelementautoworks

      Most people are not interested in ANY car if you have to keep pouring money into it. Rather it be suspension, transmission, engine or whatever. At some point, you simply want a reliable car. A Mercedes, although is a luxury automobile……is just a car. You want it to work when you need it to. So even though most owners have the money to spend, they don’t want to ‘wastefully’ spend money. Most of these SLs have ABC issues and have been either neglected or just naturally fail. So it’s up to the buyer to decide what best suits them. ABC or coilovers.

    • @goldelementautoworks

      @@Kboy11Gaming The pros of the ABC is the ability to remain flat on the turns. No lean. Constant automation of stabilizing while driving. Ability to raise and lower the vehicle on demand. The cons……failure. Can be catastrophic and happen at the most inconvenient times. Expensive to maintain. Parts and labor are very expensive unless you do it yourself. Most cannot. The advantage of adjustable coilovers are the permanent solution to a problematic suspension. Handles very well and feels very solid. As soft as you want them to be, or as firm as you want them to be. No or very easy maintenance. Once you spend the money for parts and installation, you’re done. No regrets from those who have done so.
