      Is Carriage Hills still a good neighborhood? had some old old friends live around there and I'm looking to move back to Pensacola. before I lost touch with them they said it was a decent area, has it gotten better or worse? or should I consider moving to around east hill even though is a little out of budget?

    Moved to Pensacola beach in august .. next to ft Pickens. Sadly I just got word they’re selling my rental when my lease is up. I love the people here - but tbh living in this sandbar is a little stressful because of the hurricanes. I was here for ida and that was enough for me. Being over the bridges would make me feel a lot safer. I’ve heard that Pensacola is not good so I am grateful for this video as I don’t want to leave this city

    Hi I value your videos - looking to move to the area Sept/ Oct 2022 theres a house in Southwest Pensacola i like 1 street away from Perdido Key. At the risk of being laughed at and ridiculed how horrible are the mosquitos? Are they awful year round ?? My daughters family lives w me - 3 little granddaughters all highly reactive to mosquito bites

    • @donofly
      @donofly Рік тому

      Yes mosquitos are out almost all year, especially in areas like Perdido. Some of it is because of the weather being hot and humid 10 months out of the year, and the other is because that whole area is wetlands and some swamp. You also have yellow biting flies, and gnats. This is a problem for most of florida, not just knocking Pensacola. I am a land surveyor, so I know all about Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa county, when it comes to the terrain. I'm just being honest, not trying to be negitive. There are pros and cons in every town.

    Lived in Pensacola for a year, as a little kid. Went back in August. Old neighborhood looked ghettoized, drove around town, in many parts of the city, saw very little that was NICE...and I really wanted to find a reason to move back. Lowlife ghetto filth seems to be dominant, there.

    Traffic is way too insane for a town this size. It's not a small town, and it's not a big city. There are way too many people here, and it lacks in things to do. If you have a lot of money, and love the beach Pensacola might be for you. If you are a hard working 25-55 year old, and you're making between 20,000 to 50,000, you will not be able to buy a house in a decent subdivision, or have a newer car nor will you have the money to go out very often, and there's really nowhere to go anyway. If you like live original music venues, well then you're a fish out of water here,..wink wink,..LOL.
    15 to 20 years ago this area was affordable, and at least had a few places for up and coming bands to share their music, and the average blue collar person could afford a decent house, buy a decent car, and have some things to do besides going fishing or riding wave runners. One thing I will say is that it has always been known for being a low paying area compared to even other parts of Florida. The pay has not caught up with the cost of living increase. It's too damn hot here all year long! Santa will never come here for Christmas kiddies. We are lucky to have one month of pleasant weather.
    It is starting to feel like a big city, with all the traffic, everyone is pissed off on the road, and in stores, because there are too many people struggling to just scrape by. We're becoming famous for cardboard sign holders, asking for money on almost every major intersection. If you own a big piece of wooded land close to town, you will most likely have to deal with homeless camps, and they leave their trash everywhere. Good luck getting help from the cops, squatters have all the rights, and devalue your property. I have nothing against people that can't help it, but 80% of them are junkies, or wanted by the law in another county, or state.
    So come let the sun melt your face off, sit in rush hour all day. Rush hour used to be around 5pm and really only lasted about an hour. hence the term (rush hour) Traffic never calms down around here. Retired people might love it, but if you work outside, prepare to be miserable, and broke. 🥵😡

    • @donofly
      @donofly 2 роки тому

      Oh yeah I forgot the yearly worry of Hurricane season. Not just for the danger, and the property damage, but being without power for sometimes up to 2-3 weeks.

    • @LivinginPensacolaFlorida
      @LivinginPensacolaFlorida  2 роки тому +4

      Thanks for the comment. I don't know anywhere un the country that someone could "afford" anything if they only make $20,000/year. This place has great music venues and great artist that come through here. We are a mid way point between New Orleans and Tallahassee or Jacksonville. This is one of the best beach towns.

    • @donofly
      @donofly 2 роки тому

      @@LivinginPensacolaFlorida I do agree that only making $20,000 would be nearly impossible to live anywhere in the country, unless you plan on renting with at least 2 roommates, and that is usually very unpleasant, after a few months, their bad habits surface, even if you have known them for years.
      50K per year might afford you a house for around $175,000 or less. Sadly most average sized houses in this area that are 3 bed/2bath are $200,000 and up. Even in the old run down subdivisions. While lots of them are fully renovated, there existing houses around them that are trashed, and no sign of changing.
      I don't mean to be negative about the area. Prices are just as bad or worse, in other states. I have researched Ohio, and Tennessee, and while Ohio is a little lower than Florida (but not by much)Tennessee is about the same or higher. What it all come down to is are you a beach goer. If that is your thing, then this area might be right for you.
      Also Pensacola does have a fairly safe vibe to it. As long as you know the few small areas to avoid. Pensacola is probably a decent place to raise your kids, there are also smaller townships near by like Pace, and Beulah. I don't have kids, but friends tell me the schools are good in those areas, also Perdido is nice, just be prepared to pay high prices on flood insurance.
      Lastly the beaches are some of the best, but if you are a serious surfer, don't expect any big waves until the Hurricanes head to to town🤣

    • @AnnaS1371

      I have to move there but not by choice, as I don’t desire living in Pensacola. I agree with your post, I’m very worried of where we will live, as our salary won’t be that high, and decent homes are pricy. I’m concerned as we have 2 young girls and I don’t want to end up living in a subpar neighborhood.

    • @donofly
      @donofly Рік тому

      @@AnnaS1371 Are you a military family? I first moved there in 1998 when my dad was stationed there. He has been retired for about 13 years, and is a realitor there. He bought a house in Pace Fl which is just east of pensacola over a bridge. That area is still fairly nice, and has decent school. Luckily he bought a house before this housing shortage. For the buyer it's a bad time, for the realitor business is great. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of old cool neighborhoods, and new subdivisions going up all the time, they are just expensive.
