    I live locally but after Sally, I got a great deal on a waterfront Townhome for only $115k. No joke. Sally hit it hard, they renovated it and the seller wanted out. The deal fell through twice because of the flood insurance issue but I had no problem securing that. It wasn't a deterrent at all. When you love Pensacola and all that it throws at you, it isn't a concern. You find a way. Sally was devastating for all of us. Our downtown is still recovering. Seriously, if you don't like the weather, FL probably isn't your state. I owned a pool home at the time and like you, it was shot! It took me weeks to get that back in shape doing it myself. Most of my roof tiles ended up in it so that meant a new roof that cost over $14k. Great video.

    I grew up in Mobile and remember Katrina, Ivan, Issac, Sandy and more. After living in Vegas for a couple years I have to say, I miss the hurricanes 😭

    Sally was a more devastating storm as a Cat 2 because it sat in the Gulf for almost two days before coming ashore and its forward motion was 1 mph. My house is north of five points in Pace, some 60 miles from Pensacola, and we had some minor roof damage. This is why you never know what the storm will do because the characteristics of each storm are different. Best to protect your property, and leave.

    My husband and I are wanting to move to Pensacola. Now I might be a little scared to lol. I’m originally from Ohio, so hurricanes were not something that crossed my mind when I considered moving.

      It's a F5 tornado with water. And last days rather than minutes. And you get days warning to get out as well. ( you do NOT HIDE IN THE CELLAR) remember WATER.

    Curious how far north of Pensacola or Destin you had to be, to have no major damage to structures or flooding in Hurricane Sally.
    I.e. how far beyond Cantonment, Pace, and Milton were there fewer major issues during Sally?
    Do you know if it impacted Molino, Whiting Field, or Crestview much? Enterprise, Alabama?

    Grew up in Northern California and am used to earthquakes, fires, and very high winds coming off the Pacific. An occasional hurricane doesn't sound to daunting.

    It was a slow hurricane moving through, very unusual, but I could sense that beforehand and because of the name, Sally. That's why I would post the song "Mustang Sally". "All Sally wants to do, is ride Sally ride". That's exactly what it did for over two days. It was a song commonly played around here many years ago by a local band. "Wildwood". Before I moved to Spain. The eye was over Spanish Fort, Alabama.

    When power and internet goes out how long until it gets back on?

    • @LivinginPensacolaFlorida
      @LivinginPensacolaFlorida  2 роки тому

      Great question. It could be a couple days or a couple weeks. Depends where you live and how bad it is. For Sally it was about a week.

    • @DrakeCaitlin

      @@LivinginPensacolaFlorida this is probably a dumb question but if you have the generator does the internet work? Just trying to think ahead for I’m a remote tech worker and thinking about how I’d work/manage after a hurricane

    • @LivinginPensacolaFlorida
      @LivinginPensacolaFlorida  2 роки тому

      @@DrakeCaitlin unfortunately the generator won't give you internet. You would be able to use a mobile hot spot. Most companies understand though if we were to go through that. Sally was the first hurricane like that in over 15 years.

      There has only been 2 or 3 True hurricanes that have hit here in the past 20 years. Ivan, Dennis and Sally

    • @marysherron2172
      @marysherron2172 3 роки тому

      @@LivinginPensacolaFlorida Yes. I think about my 28 years living there until 2000. The past 20 years were, until 2016, rather quiet for hurricanes in the US. But when I was seriously thinking about moving back is when Ivan hit in 2004. It was so depressing for at least a year which is why I did not move back. I mainly miss having quick access to those breathtaking beaches.

    I Live in Pensacola We we’re out of Power for Two Weeks, The power Guys Came To fix it But my neighbors house caught on fire because they had a generator plugged in still I Ran down the road To telling them to cut it off! Well they thought we were good and left And another week went by where we Had to go drive out and Get another Electrician to turn it back on. We were also being price gouged $50 at Waffle House for three ham sandwiches without cheese and A few cups of coffee without sugar. I heard My oak trees in my yard fall All three of them And they sounded like twigs. I heard the loud roar of the hurricane They said it wasn’t coming towards us But they got It wrong I stayed up the entire Night scared Shitless. Even for a Category 2/3 It’s scary.
