Love your jigs! You are clever. Beautiful little boxes. Lucky relatives! I really like your videos especially when you talk, rather than subtitles. I can listen and watch and not miss anything. Keep 'em coming. Thanks
Your videos were very helpful. I love how you explained where you went wrong and ways to fix it for future. The wood jigs and blocks to hold the mirror was great idea. Cant wait to try this myself!! Thank you!
They're so beautiful! I watched the first video and thought "I wish these had color" - then I watched this video and the tops are colored! Sooo pretty! Love the patterns!
Goodness! For just your 5th project, I'd say you are well on your way to awesome projects! I love the way you are commenting during the video to explain the process and the why's & how's. You've come up with some very pretty designs and I'm sure whomever receives these pretty gifts, will enjoy it for years to come. I hope you continue on with stained glasswork (and woodwork).
Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes, they all loved their gifts! Last year I gave everybody a small glass ornament I made. I plan on doing these crafts for as long as I can. I love them both and I enjoy sharing them on UA-cam.
I love this video. I am having trouble attaching the brass tube to the box lid without having the foil lift. Any tips you can give me would be appreciated.
Great video. I would be grateful if you could kindly share a video of how to attach a barrel tube hinge and lock to and between two glass panels to create a pressed locket. Thank You 🙏🏻
Thank you for sharing! Did you cut the bottom the same size as the sides, or a bit smaller? What about the top size? I am doing a 4" bevelled square, but unsure of what dimensions to cut the bottom and the top.
You are right, I cut it a bit smaller, so there is a place for the solder to sit.Just a bit over the inside dimension of the box. I had the box upside-down and I used a block of wood the same height as the box to place the bottom on place while I soldered it in. I hope that makes sense. Good luck.
Joyce Joy - I'm glad you liked it. On the hinge, at each corner there is a piece of solid brass rod bent in the shape of a upside down "L". The vertical part is soldered to the corner of the box and the horizontal part sticks into the brass tube which is soldered to the lid. Make sure not to get any solder into the end of the tube where the L sticks in or the hinge won't work. Hope that helps some.
I'm curious about how you did the hinge. I'm trying to repair a slide latch lock on a couple terrariums but I can't find any guidance or ways to procede. Can you possibly help me? I'm trying to get pictures to send because my explanation leaves a bit to be desired. I look forward to hearing from you. By the way you boxes are amazing! Well done Tom.
Also I have a question, the glass grinder machine, is this something I can have in my house? I don't have a garage... If I get one, should I keep it in the basement? Is it something you wouldn't really keep in your house? Thanks!!
Heather Cash Art - I use my grinder in my house. It uses water to keep the diamond bit cool and prolong it’s life. It also keeps the silicon dust down from grinding the glass. I have mine set up in a little tray and a couple pieces of wood behind it to catch any splatter. Lots of people I know take a 10 gallon aquarium and turn it on its side and do the grinding inside of that. I hope that helps. There is a great Facebook group called “Stained Glass Addicts”. Lots of great advise.
Great job! Please use some plastic gloves when applying patina, it is a caustic chemical. Also, make yourself a right angle jig on your table top to piece the lids.
Yes, it is a brass tube and a brass rod. I went to Hobby Lobby and found a brass rod that slid smoothly into the brass tube. You don’t want the rod to loose in the tube. Then of course you need something to cut it with that won’t deform the metal. I used a Dremel tool with a cut-off disc on it. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Do you have a link to the glass cutter you used? I have found some on Amazon but reviews say the ones I looked at were best for straight lines and not for curves.
Too is the most common brand and it is a great tool. You can do a search on the brand. Here is a link to a page. I have the "Super Cutter" model (3rd one down). Lots of folks prefer the pistol grip style. www.anythinginstainedglass.com/tools/toyo-glass-cutters.html

How did you cut the copper hinge? I’m having the problem that when I cut mine it closes up the end. Thanks!
I think I did it something like this. Sorry, its been a while: ua-cam.com/video/AqDwoUPsJHQ/v-deo.html
What do you suggest how to cut the tubing smaller? I got 12 inch pieces and I need to cut them smaller to fit my boxes.
I used a Dremel tool with a cut off wheel to cut mine.
is that use the brass and metal to connect the lid and bottom ? Any information of the material ? thanks

Gosh I could use those wooden jigs! You could sell them.
Good video. Wish you had spent just a little more time on the section of soldering the hinges to the lid and side.
