Great video! I use round toothpicks in the ends of my hinge tubing so I don't get solder in the ends.
That's a great idea Joyce!
Thank you, this was helpful. I must say, my heart jumped every time you applied solder while your other hand was underneath it 😬. I've had solder drip burns - no fun!
You're welcome!
Ah! Thank you so much! I've just received a repair commission on a stained glass jewelry box, and was wondering how the heck I was going to go about removing and replacing the old, damaged hinges. This box has a different type of hinge, but your video helped me design a process that should work! Incredibly helpful!
I'm not new to art in general, but this is my first foray into stained glass and soldering.
We’re glad you found us and the video was helpful!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm just learning to work in stained glass. Building a jewelry box is one of my goals. You do such beautiful work!
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Thank you for thia refresher course on the hinge placement. Over the last 15 years I had done roughly 12-15 boxes, but being away from glass for the last 15 years, this will help me immensely! Thank you Ed & Barb! I hope to be able to start doing glass again this spring if my health cooperates. Thank you Again!
Great Julie! Thanks for watching!
Nice demo. I've never made a box with a hinged lid. So now I know how the hinges get attached. Thank you!
Glad I could help!
Awesome video on Hinge Construction for Stained Glass Boxes guys...!🍱☑
Glad you liked it!
I would love to watch a video on making a box from beginning to end. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! 😊
You got it!
@@ARTyRVjust wondered if you did make a full video of how to make a box / jewellery box showing the process from beginning to end, Dont seem to find it in your play list
Here you go : ua-cam.com/video/rnVCBzdfBWc/v-deo.htmlsi=ksJNjYYGGtgI-z_Z
@@ARTyRV THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH! 😉 I love you two & your channel ❤
Excellent tutorial! Thank you!
You're very welcome!
Thanks so much for this video! It's very timely for me as I am in the middle of creating a couple of boxes. How to cut the brass posts without crushing the tube is especially helpful.
When you create your box making video, I'd be interested about hearing about placement of the chain. I've seen someone else build a box and their chain was always placed on the left-hand side. I think it makes sense to have it on the left for right handed people. However, it was attached to the box at the inside bottom corner. My thinkin is that placement practically guarantees interference from items placed in the box.
Agreed. We’ll cover that in the video. We’re planning the video now. Thanks for your input. It really helps!
I love this, I can't wait to make one! Thank you so much!
You are so welcome!

Hope Barb and Ed are doing great this holiday season. Have a safe Christmas/New Years gang!
You too Scott! We hope you have a good holiday, be safe and tell your Dad hello too!

I wonder if you could add the hinge material and decorative gauge wire that is acceptable to use on stained glass 3d projects, to your Amazon store. Thoroughly appreciate this video and all the other information you both share!!
The pretinned wire is in our store here: Copper Foil & Supplies from The Streeters www.amazon.com/shop/artyrvglassstudio/list/FNTDJFGO3K4E
And the brass jewelry hinges are available from Sunshine Glass.
Hi Julie!
I'm trying to find the correct size brass tube and hinge pins to make this box. Could you please clarify the size of the tube AND the size of the hinge pin diameters? Thank you 😊
Hinges are sold as sets here sunshine glass.com
What size copper foil did u use. This is so nice! Still watching!
Hi Julie! It’s 7/32”
How do you add an eye to a piece of glasswork?
Great question. 2 ways - Paint or glue on a solder bead.
I love your videos! This is the first time of heard of using baking soda (I'm a beginner). How much soda to water do I need to make it? I'm hoping it will make my patina darker.
Mix it 3 parts water 1 part baking soda. Clean your peice and then Rinse with water. You can save unused liquid in a jar with a lid.
@@ARTyRV thank you!
What is the diameter of the brass you used for the hinge pins?
1/8” and 1/16”
Do you need a certain metal for the hinges and the solder? Cause I've heard if you have the wrong metal then the solder will repel?
Yes, brass tubing as shown in the video.
@@ARTyRV what about the chains and jump rings that you use for hanging pieces
I want to do a doghouse bible holder
I LOVE that purple bible holder that you show but how to do the bottom decorative pieces
Where do you get the hinges?
