    These cars completely change their behaviour with a thicker rear sway bar. It suddenly starts to rotate like a BMW actually should. With the way you drive, that little upgrade would make a world of difference for you.

    • @poohbear69muckycow

      What size sway bar would you suggest as optimum , or are you stating that anything bigger than the original will “ Improve “ it .

    • @IS300Spartan

      Colin Allen Thickening the rears to 25 mm from the stock 22.5 mm gives amazing results in letting you move the car through a corner in a more natural feeling way. It becomes much more of a neutral car, but then again I enjoy and prefer oversteer at the limit so it might not be for everyone. To me, upgrading the fronts to 30 mm from 27 mm along with the rear doesn’t do much to improve the understeer issue, as the size ratio between the two stays almost the same. This is with the H&R kit by the way. With proper camber to go along with that, it’s a totally different car. I physically cringed watching this whole thing and hearing Quinn’s front tires eating themselves the entire way. I would totally bash the car too if I tried bringing it to track days set up like THAT.

      Thanks for your response , most informative , not a fan of understeer myself so anything that can give a more neutral / natural feel is worth looking at from my perspective …… Thanks again …something to play around with before summer

    Fantastic! Z4M Coupe here too, I got Nankang AR-1 this year (along with KWV3) and I must say it’s transformed - now at last full confidence on track, which was lacking before. Good front bite too

    Thanks as always for the video. I always look forward to see videos from this channel. That engine seemed very nice but the car seem tot ake forever to rotate due to the push of the front end. Awesome man. Unfortunately you can't really hide the cow hanging out well beyond the front axle. Another reason why this is not the best dedicated track car.

      Lmao!!! Cow in front of the front axle. I love the rotary engine for many reasons but it is great in the Fd because it sits low and far back in the engine bay. I always look forward to you guys videos. I am starting to make some random videos of my Fd and some of my buddies Fds. We have a family friend group called the triangle of friends. There are 7 Fd owners in total in our What's up app chat. I hope to make some more randoms videos of us when we go out cruising in our cars.

    I drove the convertible Z4M and loved it. The only thing that bothered me was understeer at the limits. The car wanted me to use throttle based steering input to keep the rear end out and reduce understeer, which is great if you're hooning, but didn't seem like it would make a good track car. It was a fantastic sports/GT car for the street and I love the motor. I'd definitely consider buying one at some point.

      The Slip Angle Could you elaborate on that? I know the engine appears to be quite pushed foward in the engine bay, yet BMW and general stats on this car boast perfect 50/50 weight distribution. How does the engine placement translate into the driving experience, if the weight is supposedly so balanced?

      The biggest cause for understeer is the oem 0deg front camber, I reduced that to -2deg and the turn in is great. I suspect Quinn has even more camber.
      Also, the Coupe has bigger rear swaybar and quicker steering rack than the Roadster

    Hey Quinn, aside from the obvious quantitative difference of the F20C vs the S54 engines, could you write a bit about the subjective difference about how they feel? I'm guessing that the F20C is your favorite NA motor, unless I'm mistaken :)

    • @IronicTonic8
      @IronicTonic8 2 роки тому +3

      I've driven both (owned an AP1 S2k), and they feel completely different. The F20C has no torque low down, it's only good above 6k for obvious reasons so it's a very peaky motor to drive. Above 6k the car is deceptively fast (more so than numbers on paper will indicate).
      The S54 has more torque low down and the power band is much more linear. You don't really get the feeling of a VTEC crossover as power just builds steadily towards redline. You could say this makes the F20C more exhilarating to drive than the S54, but the S54 has a far more useable power band (and an extra 93hp to boot). They also sound very different. I'm not fan of the 4-cylinder sound, but I love the sound of a straight 6 (this is just personal preference).
      The chassis and suspension tuning is also quite different. The S2k feels like a purpose built track car, while all of the incarnations of S54 live in cars that were meant for the street (more comfortable, luxurious, heavier, and easier to daily).
      Another thing to consider is the S2k will have lower maintenance costs and is generally more reliable, if that matters to you. But if you want some luxury and practicality with your fun, go with the Z4M/M3. You won't be disappointed with either choice, it just depends on which factors are most important to you. I'd be happy with either.

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  2 роки тому +1

      The F20C feels like a race engine while the S54 feels like sports car engine. The S54 has heavier internals and clutch/flywheel. I get asked this a lot so perhaps we can do another video talking about the two side by side.

      Well I would suspect there would be mostly German cars at a German race track. Doesn't mean that a MacPherson front suspension with an engine hanging well over the front axle is the best base to start from. Drive a stock S2000, RX-8 or FD RX-7, true front midship cars and you'll understand what I mean. and like I said in the video, you can make any car perform with enough money and development into it. To each their own. Thanks for watching.
