This ain't no poor man's Aston Martin. This is a BMW. It's not an substitute for something else. It's a LEGEND in its own right.
I didn't get it either, Astons are junk for the grip.
And definitely not for poor man's pockets, either...

The 2013 Long Beach Grand Prix proved to be the first win for the car, with the #55 Z4 GTE driven by Bill Auberlen and Maxime Martin driving a fine race, bringing home a 1-2 finish for BMW. A second win for the #56 car of John Edwards and Dirk Muller from pole position at Lime Rock Park proved the pace of the car. Keep in mind all race cars are quite different but it’s still a Z4 derivative.

In June I bought myself a 2006 Z4 M coupè, Alpine white with Red leather interior, no GPS,no screens, no jokes, only me, the fat steering wheel, the badass S54 engine and 3 pedals!!!
This car is fucking amazing. Couldn't figure out if it was a good idea buying a 13yo sports car but the answer is definitely: YES!!

I only own the lowly 3.0si coupe but absolutely love it. When I bought it I drove the Z4m and my 3.0 back-to-back and apart from the significant cost difference I found the 3.0 much easier to live with as a DD, much easier to work on myself and just as entertaining to drive without wringing it’s neck out each journey to get the best out of it. I reckon the N52 is a fabulous engine too provided it gets regular maintenance 😁

@@1IRoyle I knew a guy here in Alabama that had one. He was wanting to sell it. He said to his knowledge there was no other exactly like his with his options/color packages. It was the only one of these cars I've ever seen.
And prices just jumped by 5% because of this video.

@@connoisseuroftigolbitts The Supra's the poor man's Z4M Coupe - really. Not in monetary terms yet, but in a few years the Z4M Coupe will be the more expensive car anyway. Because it's rare, raw, analouge and the design by Anders Warming will stand the test of time in a superior way compared to the new Supra.

Alongside MY 2003 911 996 C2 MANUAL, 1990 Audi quattro 20V (ur quattro), AND 1996 Honda Integra Type R, JDM DC2 2006.
Great fit with those cars, all modern performance classics.

I test drove a Z4 M Coupe. Wonderful experience! My wife said I’d get in too much trouble if I got it. She’s usually right about that kind of thing, so I ended up with an E36 M3. No regrets, but I still have deep admiration for the Z4M Coupe.

@@TheSlipAngle - I have both and will say that the e36 M3 is more fun on the track though it isn't as fast. Also the visibility in the e86 is kinda crappy. However, you get way more attention in the e86 and there is something just special about it.
I would take the m3 over the z4 m anyday. But thats just me

I agree. I had a red 2000 'clown shoe' and at first I wasn't crazy about this redesign, but over the years I've gotten to really appreciate how aggressive it is.... and not quite as goofy slash awkward as the z3 m Coupe. I want one too, but sadly up in Vancouver prices are ridiculous on these! Sarah, I'm sure if you pooled all your cars together you could get this 😄

I've always loved these but a bit out of my price range at the moment (one day!). I'm currently in an S2000 which I feel shares many characteristics...it's an oddity, RWD, 50 50 weight distribution, central driving position, fun, direct feel and has personality. Great video btw! Thanks for sharing
The S2000 is a much more reflexive and sharper car on it's feet. I own one as well.

This car is beautiful. Was cross shopping this and the e46 m3 as a summer car. E46's m3 coupe with 6 speed manuals are much easier to find in Canada. Easily half the price but often are winter driven and high mileage. Almost every z4m coupe is summer driven and low mileage so I guess there are trade offs. E46 m3 is a great platform but Achilles heel is that the rear chassis to subframe is weak AF.
Victor Tran subframe is a relatively easy fix. Plus with most cars being almost 20 years old, most will have had the subframe issue addressed. IMO this is the perfect time to buy e46 m3s. Probably a low priced as they will ever be.
Own a Z4 3.0i. Fun to drive and I get compliments. Its rare to see on in Philadelphia.
They're rare to see anywhere....they only produced 15k of them in 3 years.......

I've done very similar mods to my Z4MC. Stromung exhaust is the sweet spot IMO - not too loud and extra grunt. Love the car. Just did a road trip Vancouver BC to Monterey CA along Hwy 1 for car week. The car loved the drive and it was pushed every day.
Do you have headers and the cats removed? That's the challenge with a lot of off the shelf exhausts. They purposely make them louder because most people will just modify the end of the exhaust and want to hear a difference, but the stock cats, header, resonators, etc. eat up a lot of the sound. So if you open the entire system, the engine gets really loud. That's where I most concerned. I was thinking of replacing the headers and section 1, but leave the factor resonated X pipe and mufflers to see where that leaves me volume wise.
Just installed a Stromung and it’s perfect. Lower tone, a bit more volume and compliments the engine sound beautifully. I’m hate drone and though lower tone for sure it’s not an intrusive system. It’s the way it should have come from the factory in my opinion.
Really like those videos, perfect editing, they are just balanced, the talk with the background music and the speech and then the engine noise with the car, I really like those videos

Your list of boxes checked match mine exactly. Including the exterior, the ride, the handling, the unique divergent shape. And I was at one time dead set on buying an Aston Martin V8 Vantage, but luckily I did not! This BMW, to me, is even more unique, and it doesn’t break down so easily or cost nearly as much to keep her running. I don’t think I’ll ever sell my ‘07 Z4M.

I have just bought the one of these and it is brilliant!, it has the standard BMW wheels and I would like a more aggressive looking wheel but keep with the 18" diameter, are the wheels are on this one 18" and are they staggered front and rear, any more details would be appreciated, thanks Mike

Another amazing episode! Camera work was a real stand out. Low front mount for the high speed runs were killer. The drone burnout sticks in my mind too. Love the peddle box shot, maybe pared with driver's perspective synced split screen? Now back to the ricer channel and S2K love! Maybe even a little sneak peak into rotary miata future plans?

Spent many years as a tech at a BMW dealer. This chassis with the S54 was definitely the most fun to drive... Super light weight. Great feedback from the EPS. Fun for miles.. Great wheel choice also.
Thought the Z4M had hydraulic power steering? Regular Z4 coupe had EPS

My 2016 Z4m limited edition is AMAZING ! Very similar body style which is awesome but the the hard top convertible takes this machine to a whole nother level !
I got a a 3.0 si Roadster in black with an auto box... and I love it!!
Also 50:50 weight distribution so the car pivots around the driver through the corners. Love the feel of it.

Elaine Ricketts I still don’t really understand how this is possible. If everything else is the same between 318i, 320i, 330i, 335i etc; and all the engines weigh a different amount, how can they all be 50:50?
@@RobManser77 look up how much an aluminium engine weighs, its likely less than you think.
@@RobManser77 The battery is in the back. In the 335 it's behind the right rear wheel. Look for "BMW E90 battery replacement"
Paul Dougherty Eh? Who mentioned batteries?! The battery is in the same location on all BMWs (I’ve owned 8, including a Z4C). My point was simple that if everything other than the engine is the same, how can different engine weights all produce 50:50 weight distribution? A 318i has far less weight over the nose than a 335d for example.

Z4M can go for 20-30k and the z4 can range from 6k-15k honestly really good value. I wish to upgrade to the z4m one day, if I can find one. If not I'll be happy with my 2.5i it's fun on windy roads.

I had the privilege of being able to drive one with an SMG in it when I worked at BMW. Absolutely love the car. It was a bit a tight on the inside but the car handled like it was on rails!

The convertible will definitely be a less rigid chassis but I am sure it's still a very good car.

I now drive my 2nd Z3, have always had a BMW, fav still is the 1967 700, prob the best handling car ever. I did start out with a 1961 Porsche, a really great car and did have a chance to wring out a 1965 1800 another full drifter.

OK I have one of these modified but still naturally aspirated. I also have driven AML cars. I actually view my Z4M as a poor man’s GT3 Manual. It is that good! It is that amazing of car! For comparison sake, the new M2 Comp is a great car, but it feels much heavier and it lacks the amazing steering feel of the Z4M Coupe. With a little bit of the engine work, a big brake kit and suspension for weeks, my car is truly remarkable, I feel.
I'm going to take my Z4M for a drive now :)

And he talks about a lightweight sports car. The title is click bait. I think touring car when I think Aston Martin. Not lightweight. The cars he's comparing are apples and oranges.
