My last outboard was a 9.8 2 stroke Tohatsu which was an absolute beauty - first or second pull every time. Just got myself a new 6hp as I've been out of the game and went with Suzuki but I rate the 'Hatsu highly
Noice! I just got the same motor. Manual says vary throttle after that 10min idle break in. Full throttle ok for 1 min then back down. Also say Breakin should be done under load in gear. A metal 55 gal drum works great to hold it and run it in. Q my friend. Can you turn yours off by pushing in red button? I have to yank killswitch lanyard out to kill motor. No pushing or mashing of buttun will shut it off. Then its a pita to put little plastic kill key thing back in to get going. So wondering if you can push red button to stop the motor on yours?
I own and have owned several Tohatsu/Mercury portable outboards. All you have to do is press in the red button and hold it until it shuts down. I see lots of people on UA-cam pulling the cord. Not necessary to remove the cord..
Great vid. I just got my 2024 ^Hp as well. I'm noticing that when the motor warms up (aroudn 10min run time) the engne misfires at highter rpm and bogges down at higher rpm. Has anyone else seen this?
Defender Industries has a sale on now on the 6 hp Tohatsu DS that includes a 3.1 gal auxillary tank and a fuel line too for $1565 plus tax plus shipping ...
Hi, thanks for your video, where did you get the engine oil? Do you know of any other brand that can be used and specifications ? The owners manual does not specify any of this. Thanks
What is the situation of storing the Tohatsu 6 ph with internal tank of it's side while it still has gas in the internal tank? Does it leak? Can you store on the side with some gas in the tank??
you can transport the motor on either side with full gas in the internal tank and it does not leak. I have not tried long term storage on its side, but it is fine for car transport.
Put some Sea Foam in the gas, pull the cord a few times to circulate it into the carburettor (OFF or run it). Last time of the year, add Sea Foam to the gas.
Scout inflatable had a leak so i pick up saturn mk470 inflatable much better inflatable 6hp is alot of power if im fishing solo don’t even go full throttle most of the time Helps when family goes.
store it on a proper motor stand; if stored in the wrong orientation oil can leak into the cylinder causing hard starting, white smoke and engine cut out
Cheapest? Where they pay their employees cheapest wages. Do you think Tohatsu makes a high quality engine by making it the cheapest way possible? See if Troy-Bilt makes an outboard engine, or Walmart for a cheap outboard engine. How about go to a professional marina where they are also going to have a spare propeller, a spare pin, the right oil, the right lower unit oil and people who know engines who can advise you and help you and launch you and repair you. If you buy it at Walmart do you think you will get any help there? Yeah, I'm cantankerous. Good work ain't cheap. Cheap work ain't good. Pick one. Or pick an old one that was well built when new and has been well maintained, properly operated, and pay a fair price which might be as much as the new price of junk, but choose quality. I think I paid $1900 long shaft & spares 2 or 3 years ago at a marina on the Potomac River and at the time there was some internet scam going on selling outboard engines for super cheap prices.
What a different sound that clackity thing makes compared to my honda bf8. 123cc vs 222. That thing would drive me nuts. I have a 3.5 Tohatsu on my new sailboat that sounds even worse, going to need an upgrade, but don't know if I could handle that sewing machine. Good job spooging oil and gas everywhere lol
Just ordered a 2023 6hp model tonight! I keep hearing they're the Toyota of outboards so if that's true, I'll be extremely happy.
How is it holding up?
I have the same one, same color and hp. Still in break-in period, running less than 10 hrs. Loving it.
Love mine too!
I love the gear leaver on the front.. its a much much better location now.
For real!
Ahhh Houston!... breaking i 4:42 n my new tohatsu 6hp tiller.
Started the first time.. second pull!!
Pees like champ. Quiet.. runs like a champ !!!.
Cool that helps me because just got me a skiff and motor, so I needed this exact advice how to do it. 🤙
Sweet!

Was thinking of this exact motor, thanks for posting. It is good to see in person so to speak.
Glad to help!
Thanks, I hear good things about this model.
For sure!
Noice!

You gotta push and hold on mine but it works.
Yup just push the button!

Thank you. Very good video.
Awesome. Thanks for watching!
Love the white! I have the same motor badged as a Nissan in silver.
Very cool!
Came for the Tohatsu - stayed for the skiff. What kinda skiff is that pray tell?
Awesome. It's a HooDoo
Thanks for sharing!
You bet!
Hey nice video I have the same engine and it's great once you break in the engine I like to replace the oil
Right on!
I have a Tohatsu 6Hp 4-stroke outboard motor, I use the fuel hose with the female adapters, where can I get them, I am from Mexico.
Hi, thanks for your video, where did you get the engine oil? Do you know of any other brand that can be used and specifications ? The owners manual does not specify any of this. Thanks
It came with it!
Any 10w30 synthetic will work.
Very informative... Thanks
Yep!
1 year later can we get an uodate... How's it running now? What size boat do you run? I have a 15/36 alumacraft, and im hunting for an outboard.
I don't have this one anymore but it ran great! Just put ethanol free gas in.
@FishingWithHeath thanks.... I ended up going with the Mercury 6hp.
As you probably know, Mercury's up to and including 30HP, are made by Tohatsu. They are almost identical to each other.@@furlow0611

It does not leak if you store it on the proper side. There are directions on the side of the Tohatsu
you can transport the motor on either side with full gas in the internal tank and it does not leak. I have not tried long term storage on its side, but it is fine for car transport.

How bad is the vibration from this motor?
Not bad at all
About to go buy the same one!
Sweet!
Just ordered mine. Putting on my scout 430 inflatable
@@freshsaltyfries5078 hows that working for you?
Scout inflatable had a leak so i pick up saturn mk470 inflatable much better inflatable 6hp is alot of power if im fishing solo don’t even go full throttle most of the time Helps when family goes.
any updates on this bad boy? hows it running?
Still running well! Clean it and run fresh water through after every use!
how big is the gas tank? dose it have reverse ?
3 gallon internal.
Yes it has reverse and neutral.
@@FishingWithHeath no way that internal gas tank is 3 gallons.
0.3 gal
My tohatsu starts up, smokes up and stops, ...during break in period....what am im doing wrong? :/
Did you add engine oil? Might be a manufacturing defect
I wish I knew!
store it on a proper motor stand; if stored in the wrong orientation oil can leak into the cylinder causing hard starting, white smoke and engine cut out
We are looking at buying one..little steep at $1600
It is for sure!
Where’s the cheapest place to get one of these?
Out of the back of a boat in a marina. Make sure you go at night.
HAHAHA!!
