Thank you, I thought I knew a lot about split windows…well, I learn each video more. I always looking forward to your video’s because I learn so much more then when I search for these things in our country (Netherlands). You explained everything so easy to follow. And I accuatly listen to you on my Ipad next to my IMac and do the same on the IMac.
i also thought i knew a few things but this video showed me i didn't know a few things as well that i can apply. Gary always has the best videos with tips that can be applied to any Mac user(no matter their ability)
I have to somewhat begrudgingly admit that Windows has macOS beat hands down when it comes to window management (no pun intended). There are however great third party apps like Magnet that bring the window management experience a lot more in line with PCs.
I so appreciate your videos. I came across you videos by searching on how to Alphabetize the MAILBOXES in Mail . The boxes comes up in order automatically when I look at my phone. Yet on my laptop it's a mess. Anyway you can create a video or refer me to one you made to help me out? Thank you.
Really glad you posted this video as I’m an infrequent Split View user and generally manage to end up wondering how to exit it ‘neatly’ - now I know how. Many thanks.
hi gary. great tips as always. but i had a problem when setting up a keyboard shortcut i was wondering if you could help me with. i decided to make a keyboard shortcut for Tile Window to Left/Right of Screen. it worked, however there is a very prolonged animation that takes place when the app/window is "tiling" to the left/right, if that makes sense. is there anyway to disable this animation so that it tiles to the right/left instantly?
Apple seems to think the UI mnemonic is C.H.I.P. ie Confusing Hidden Inconsistent Proprietary What's wrong with drag left, drag right, drag to corners? See how easy THAT is to explain!
You are one of the best UA-cam channels without a doubt. If I didn't already own a MacBook Pro, you would make me want to buy one just to learn about it. Thanks Gary.
Gary, Is it possible to do it with dual screen as well ? Can I make 4 splits at the same time with 4 different applications ? I do not have connected a second screen yet but i was just wondering. Thanx ... for making this movie ... I had no idea... ( yes i am one of those people that keep closing windows to change :-)
In order to switch between those two screens in split-screen-mode I always have to click the screen first so I can f.e. write in the second window right away, which is very annoying. Can someone pls tell me how I can change that?
Never knew about the feature of holding down the option key. The *hidden* (via Option key) menu bar items has to be one of the things I hate most about macOS. Would be nice if Apple just listed those below, in the same menu.
Exactly! I've been using Apple macOS for ages and didn't know about such an essential option! It's crazy that Apple does not educate its users with prompts, tips, or tutorials about these powerful and so-needed features!
I cant believe that what I took for granted on windows is not available on Mac yet?! my workflow goes much faster when i split into 3 screens and you cant do that on mac?! why apple?
@@macmost that's what I've been doing. But it's much easier to control when they tiled up together rather than adjusting the size one window at a time. I just hope apple brings this feature in there next update
The extension Spectacle makes this all MUCH easier, and you can assign your own keyboard controls. I use Spectacle all day every day and would hate to be without it.

Thanks for another usual video, Gary. Que, is there an easy way to re-program the Eject key on the Magic Keyboard? I have looked everywhere in settings but can't find a way to do so. Ideally, I would like to program it to perform forward delete to replace Fn+Delete. Thanks
NOTE: In macOS Sonoma and beyond, the System Settings controls for whether the Menu Bar appears or not is now under Control Center.
Thank you! I've been going crazy trying to find this setting!

Thanks very much, Gary, for showing us all these extra Split View options and tweaks. Very useful!
As always, great video, Gary! I like using split-view, but you've given me several great tips to make it easier.
I use Split View a lot but still learnt a few extra things here. Thanks for sharing Gary👏🏻👍🏻.
Thank you Gary! Your tricks and tips really are the best! Well done! 👍
Thank you again and always for your tutorial videos. You have been my one stop shop for all things Mac for years.
command option control R - so so useful in my line of work. Thx a lot!!!
Really great video. I often save your videos so I can watch them again just to refresh my memory.
Great tips! I’m a first time Mac owner/user and your site has been very helpful. Thank you for what you do
Excellent video, thank you!

Regularly closing the window of the wrong app in Split View with ⌘W, Grrrrrrrrr
Apple should add a confirmation message when Split View is active!
I recommend Magnet in the App Store give a bunch of extra options for tiling windows. Very handy with my Ultra-wide monitor
Catalina and newer.
in split mode i can't type on either screen, when i click the pointer on one screen the other screen disappears
how i type with both screen open
good question!
A very useful and informative video tutorial today! Thank you, Gary! 👏🏻❤️

How could MacOS upgrade backward? Too difficult to split the screen to 3 screens.
Another good way to manage windows is to use third-party programs like Magnet or Rectangle (Rectangle is free and works on Ventura).
I use Magnet and it's really awesome
Great information. I am new to Mac platform and will need lots of practice since I use split screens for research papers.
or you can spend $1 for an app called "Magnet" which does this 1million times better and easier with keyboard shortcuts
Opened my eyes to a whole new world of Apple features! THANK YOU!
This guy is brilliant ❤🙏. No other person in youtube explains it in so detail & easy way and clearly like him 🙏
I want to splitview a browser (Safari) and Xcode but Xcode is not available for splitview. Is that correct?
Xcode's main window is huge and probably too large for your screen size/resolution. It will work if you have enough space.
I've been trying to use split view for safari and the discord application. Any idea why it won't allow me to do that? Thanks in advance.
Perhaps that app doesn't support it.

I have a question: non related to split view.
Is there any way possible to automatically eject external disk when mac gos to sleep?

Maybe try using the App Switcher (Command+Tab) to go to the app you want instead of how you do it now (you didn't say).
I just bought a monitor to use with my MacBook Air. Could you , Please, show us how can we better use the monitor.
I'm not sure what you are asking.

The built-in password manager will do that in Safari. Use that.

Gary is there such a thing as horizontal split screen? I always find I need that!
No. That would create two very thin and wide windows. You can just resize regular windows that way if you really want it.
