Not related to the video, but I just had to share it somewhere. Trevor Strnad (Lead singer of The Black Dahlia Murder) passed today, the man was an absolute legend and will be missed so much. Remember to check on your friends.
@@AseriousMatter Same, he was a huge inspiration to me too. Last year I listened to his interview on Metal Injection, where he talked about his anxiety, depression and substance usage, I was sure he would be able to pull through but man... I'm so stunned. I'm sure he really tried everything.. Truly a huge loss 😭
Their new stuff makes me think of Breaking Benjamin. Those choruses and melodies are lifted straight from Ben (edit: Not an insult. Ben is an expert songwriter and a giant in the genre). The double tracking of the vocals I think allows him to sing a lot cleaner in the studio because he knows he will layer over fry textures in the screams. That said, just saw them on the Trinity tour and he had pretty consistent technique live. I didn't note much strain and he was showing great posture.
I saw them live in Burlington VT with Chelsea Grin and both absolutely killed it. I fell off after creatures but always respected the hell out of them.
One thing i love about MIW is that, even when they make a radio single, the emotion is still genuine. Lots of heart in these lyrics. You can tell Chris means every word he sings
Only just getting around to watching this reaction, and hearing that this is a good song to practice makes me very happy! I’m a complete newbie to singing clean and distorted vocals, but I’m looking to get into it as a hobby. MIW is one of my top favorite bands, so I won’t say no to more reactions in the future!
you should check out Undead Ahead 2: Tale of the Midnight Ride!!! That song is from their last album, but, imo, it is his best vocal work and is vastly heavier; you may like!!
I've learned so much about vocals by watching your videos, it's helped me understand how my vocal folds work and it's overall good content!, love the vids and sat through this one despite the fact I don't even like Motionless in White
I’d love to see you listen to their song Undead Ahead 2! You’d get to analyze Chris’s screams more, and their guitarist Ricky sings in it as well. So you shave 2 vocalists to analyze! Timebomb would be another one with both of them singing
I appreciate the fact that you care about the direction youre facing when watching content for the viewers. Its definitely a small detail, however Im one that has always noticed this with anyone I watch. So, Thank You!
BROOOO MOTIONLESS RELEASED A NEW SONG CALLED SLAUGHTERHOUSE!! CHRIS DOES SOME VOCALS HE HASN'T DONE AND IT FEATURES BRYAN GARRIS FROM KNOCKED LOOSE 👀👀 heeeaaavvvyyyy 🔥
I've always had an interest in screaming and always found it kind of daunting watching tutorials for it. And my lack of knowledge about music and music theory discouraging from really pursuing it. But, a lot of the stuff you talked about was really educational. You were able to present stuff in a technical way but easy to understand. The "while relaxed," was especially helpful. As well as when you mentioned how to achieve certain effects by manipulating the corresponding vocal/face area stuff. In just 20 minutes I feel like I learned more than 2 years of casually digesting this stuff.
This is the best track I think I might have ever heard by them personally but that’s also probably because I am a giant breaking Benjamin fan and this is literally just a Breaking Benjamin song. So many vocal harmonies and sounds that Chris is doing are literally a kin to how Ben sounds and does it himself. So if you like this song go check them out but also check out Breaking Benjamin because that are amazing and basically all over this track to a crazy degree
Another funny thing on top of that; They're both from PA. MIW is from Scranton and BB being from Wilkes-Barre. And those two are basically right next to each other on the map. I just think it's funny because I'm also a PA boi myself, so seeing the similarities here just joined the two together.
I really appreciate your takes on songs like this that incorporate cleans with fries/false cords because this type of music requires practice on both and often I only find instruction on one or the other. Much love as always!
This definitely has some old Breaking Benjamin with a little bit of Sevendust or Nonpoint in the vocal stylings. This guy did his homework. I can't help but wonder if they've worked with BB or at least reached out to them. Also I feel old and my knees hurt...
Can we get a Black dahlia breakdown please? Just cause we’ll never get another Trevor BDM track. RIP T-rev was great to have met him personally he was the funniest band member I’ve ever chatted with. Terrible day.
Just a note, if you watch the various in-studio videos from Motionless In White, most of Chris's screams are false chord. I thought he was doing fry for years but he just has great control over his false chord vocals.
@@kennethj.mccrosson3002 Most likely, which is unfortunate. I never really looked too far into his situation, so I can't say if it's true or not. But he still has good vocals
"Row row row your boat - life is but a dream row row your boat - life is but a dream row row your boat - life is but a dream row row your boat - OH MY GOD IT DOES!!!!!"

The chorus sounds almost exactly like Never Again by Breaking Benjamin lol
That's exactly what I just thought too!
