Ok, as an Israeli and Hebrew speaker:
    1. Jachnun- you actually said it right! :)
It’s a Jewish Yaman dish that’s eats as a breakfast.
    2. The man in the bakery was Arab, not Moroccon. “Ash-tanur” is an Arab bread.
    3. The white bread (“pretzel”) is just a white bread. It’s not something special in israel or Jerusalem.

the bread Ashley made is iraqi bread not moroccan as the guy explained in the video. Iraq used to have one of the biggest jewries in the arab world, along with Morocco and Yemen. Also the Jachnun Bread you ate at the beginning of the video is from the adeny jewry (which is basically in south yemen) ! It is interesting to do food tours but even more interesting I guess to know about the history of these foods.

I think that our most known donut in Israel is actually the sufganiya (סופגניה). You probably haven't seen one because they only start selling it around October- November about one to two months before Hanukkah because in the jewish tradition these donuts are eaten as a symbol for Hannukah's story- the oil that lasted 8 days. So we eat fried food around that time. The sufganiya is a round fried donut with strawberry jam inside and powdered sugar on top. You can also get sufganiyot (the plural version lol) with chocolate instead of jam or my personal favourites- noting but the donut itself or a sufganiya with 'ribat halav'- dulce de leche.
Also there are the sfinge donuts which are moroccan but I cant tell you much about them because I'm ashkenazi. The only thing I can say is that they are so fucking good.

Hey guys. the last time u said jachnun right.
As for the breads, they're not exactly known for being israeli, but of other Arab cultures (where a lot of israelis are from originally).
If u came somewhere between august and December then the doughnuts are part of the holiday known as Hanukkah. They're called a "sufgania". They're very doughy and sweet and often are filled with jam, chocolate, caramel, and more.

about donunts and sweets in general. there is the american approach for sweets that taste to us as too much sweet, israeli dont like things to be too fatty or sweety, its just wont sale here, its just an acquired taste, on the other hand i saw alot of not sweet at all sweets in europe (greece for example) that tasted pale to me. i guess we are somewhere in the middle between too sweet and not so much sweet

the man in the bakery isn't Moroccan, he is Arab. you guys keep mentioning morocco so ill explain a little about the connection between Morocco and israel. Israel, like the United States, is a country whose population consists of residents who came from all over the world. The Jewish population in Israel is very diverse, and just as there are Jews from Europe or India, there are also Jews from Arab countries like Iran, Iraq and Morocco. The amount of Jews in Israel who came from Morocco is very large and therefore the Moroccan community had a great influence on the Israeli culture that was created as a kind of integration of all the different cultures that came here. I am a Moroccan Jew myself, all four of my grandparents were born in Morocco and I am very proud of the fact that I am a Moroccan

I am living in Israel and Watching you eating jachnun with a fork was so weird you are supposed to eat then with your hands.
And some food you should try out:
    Milki (מילקי)
    Halva (חלבה)
And that pretzel you ate is called lhachmanya
And if you are going to Eilat you should snorkel in Eilat coral beach. (If you wont be in Eilat you won’t really experience Israel fully.) I think it dose cost money if I remember correctly but it is so much worth it. I was scuba diving in Eilat for 2 years and that is the best reef in Israel for sure.

Jachnun is traditionally only eaten by sfardi Jews and not ashcanazi Jews ( just a FYI) also the bread guy called you a tourist in front of your face

Finely! Jachnun! It is from Jewish Yemen culture. It is hard to make and mostly made with "samna" which is a special smoked butter. (we smoke it underground with citrus tree brunches)
But I don't think you tasted a very good and authentic one.. You actually eat it with a hot pepper souce as well 😅
But I like it sweet as well, so sometimes I eat it with honey 😋
