Those photos by Margaret Fay Shaw, wow, stunning, atmospheric, moody, sad, just a mix of emotions having such a brief look, I'll be heading to Google shortly to look at purchasing. x
@ionamacinnes1935 no but we need tae go back as since we've been there I've found oot there's a great walk from Huisinis beach to another beach nearby 😊
Thanks a lot Robert. Have you done any climbing in Harris? Awe I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for messaging again👍 they are fabulous, and my pal Norma told me of a walk out to a temple so I’ll need to do that one day when I’m back in Northton, South Harris. I thought she was on about the cafe, I said yes I’d been haha. Ix
I loved Lewis and Harris when I was there about 18 months ago, only scratched the surface of them so need to go back. Managed to pick up a nail in one of my tyres which let go at the top of a big hill on the Golden Road, not a great experience in,y circumstances. Great islands and I will be back.
@dieselbushcraft1299 Hello, oh man that nail, what a pain, what on earth did you do? I dont think I even had a phone signal along the Golden Road. How long were you up for? Glad you loved it, did you see the other islands, I mean Lewis is the best of course but there are a few others that are ok too haha. Ix
@@IonaMacinnes It was a fun experience but managed to get the wheel changed and when we finally got a signal we found a Tyre company in Stornoway and got it sorted, didn’t let it spoil the holiday. Stayed at Hushinish and Luskentire, loved the places. On that trip it was just Lewis and Harris. This year visited Barra, Vatersay, Eriskay, Uist’s which took us up to 10 islands on that particular trip. I love that each island have their own character. We had a late summer trip to the Orkneys and have really fallen in love with the Orkneys. Hopefully in the next year or so I will be getting more time to spend travelling so I will be able to return. I totally love Scotland and I know that not everywhere will be fantastic but the paces of life and the lack of stress that people have is so much nicer than where I live in northern England. There’s too much anger and aggression here. I was walking around Kirkwall on an evening and yes there were teenagers but I didn’t feel threatened or alert to things around me. Honestly when I walk around towns and cities around here even during the day it doesn’t feel safe. Of course you can guess my plans in the next few years can’t you and it doesn’t involve staying where I am.
St Clements church is beautiful inside and out.I liked the stone carvings and also the carvings on the building. It's a lovely church in beautiful surroundings. I also liked the Mission House Studio in Finsbay with amazing carvings and stoneware. An Clachan shop in Leverburgh was very nice with attractive Harris Tweed products. Northdon is very beautiful and the stonework of the coffee shop is something else. Luskentyre beach never fails to amaze me, only seen it in photos but one day I'll get there. I liked your visit to Luskentyre Tweed Company. I loved the colours of the wools and Donal John was very informative. I can see why Harris Tweed is so expensive with all the work that is involved in making the products. Thanks so much for sharing Iona, loved this vlog. 🙏👍
Yet another delightful video, Iona..Thank you. I really loved seeing the Mission House Gallery that looks great....and the cat as well😉 And the Margaret Fay Shaw book looks fascinating.
@markstothard630 oh I know I could have made a whole video just on the Gallery it was fab and the owner spoke to me for ages which was lovely. A great refurb from a Mission House. Her book is a great album of old traditions in the western isles, I can’t wait for canna house opening next year, I’ll be there with my camera😂. I’m glad you’re enjoying my wee videos, I really enjoy getting messages from viewers with feedback, it’s a lot of the reason I do it. You’ll see North Harris in a wee while, I’ve still got Barra and Balranald to edit so plenty more Island adventures on their way😄👍 Ix
@paulfirth5453, hello Paul, that’ll be amazing, how fab. Hope you enjoy the wide open spaces and take care on the bike. Thanks for watching and I’m glad it was a wee help anyway. Cheers, Ix
Highly enjoyable, very evocative and brings back many good memories. Wish it was as close to my doorstep as it is to your own! I spent several days in Harris waiting (unsuccessfully) for calm enough weather for the boat to go to St Kilda and thought it was magical. In those days Rodel House was a very good hotel. Harris was used in 2001: A Space Odyssey as a location to represent the surface of another planet (with a few filters) and it does have an other worldly feel in places. Be great if you ever get to St Kilda as I would love to see your visit (since I never made it). Safe travels and have fun. I presume you scoffed the chocolate butteries too - go on own up?
@grahamliggat7193, Hello and thank you for messaging and watching, happy you enjoyed it. Yes Harris is another world isn’t it. I drive through it regularly but never stop as I did that day. I’ve been waiting for the weather to go to St Kilda for some time, I need to have the day off work etc in advance but it’s never worked yet. But be sure I will be doing it soon so I’ll remember your request! I’ll need to go watch the film now see if I can spot the rocks I was driving round, gosh it’s unreal isn’t it. Where about do you live Graham? Cheers, Ix
@@IonaMacinnes Originally from Perthshire but live and work down south. Don’t get up as often as I would like mainly as I am M6-phobic! Was on Eigg for a few days in May so very much enjoyed your Small Isles and Mallaig posts. If you get the weather, Scotland’s the best place to be. Have fun and good luck getting to St Kilda! G
Another lovely video Iona, thank you. More memories flooding back so nice to see Harris again. Is the boat builder still on the Golden Road? It was situated on the right hand side driving south. It had the ribs of a boat outside. An observation, the sound is variable from loud to almost inaudible at times is there any chance of improving it please, I hate to miss what you are saying.
@uffo200 hello thanks for messaging and thanks for pointing out about the audio. I’ll need to have a look at it, maybe when I’m editing I change the volume on my laptop so I’ve taken note for my next one👍 I don’t recall seeing ribs of a boat very obvious when I drove it, although I was a bit car sick feeling by the end of it for sure so couldn’t observe too much🤢🥴🙈 Haha. It goes on for evvvver. Ix
Well having seen several You Tube vlogs of the Outer Hebrides we're just going to have to come see for ourselves. Campervan travels next your are looking like a long drive follwedby a longish ferry journey.
@@IonaMacinnes we're in Devon so a long haul to start with! We regularly visit Scotland & usually have about 3 weeks so it's not impossible. Probably get a ferry from Ullapool or maybe Uig on Skye unless you can suggest a better ferry route.
These are the safest routes in terms of not cancelling as the Mallaig lochboisdale route is a joke and I wouldn't depend on it. Going Ullapool to Stornoway is best then you can work your way south and end up in Barra then ferry to Oban. That way youve covered the whole of the Western Isles in a oner. Ix
A nice interesting video. But I have to agree re the fluctuating sound levels. Also maybe find a way of muffling the mic in the wind. However still well worth the watch 👍!
@johnscot1 I’ve just gone on and checked ha yes going into the ceramic art studio and talking about the midges Jeezo I was really shouting that for sure🥴😂. All feedback is very much appreciated, fingers crossed I continue to improve my editing skills. Thanks for watching. Ix
