Your weather comments reminded me of when I asked a mate From Scotland I worked with with at BP, if the weather in Scotland was really as miserable as claimed, and he said: "Ah, don't believe it, the weather's always good in Scotland, Good 'n rainy, Good 'n snowy', Good and cold, Good n' windy, Good n' foggy, Good n' icy, Good n' dusty. In fact, the weather in Scotland is so good, it's the only place where you can can be standin' knee-deep in mud, in the pouring rain and have dust blowing in your face!"
@@steve-marsh I left out a bit, we were working in Alaska in miserable conditions and I was curious if Scotland weather could be as miserable as Alaska. At 19:18 the walk around St. Clements Church was mesmerizing, and was just as many a gray and green day in Alaska. And talk about stories, Imagine what those stones could tell. I wonder how much unrecorded history remains with the locals?
We went to the Isle of Skye when I was a child when the roads had passing paces. My father was standing by a car somebody had left in the passing place. A lady drove passed in her car stopped and ranted and raved at my father for leaving his car there. She went on for ages. My father calmly let her finish and then said’thank you for that but it’s not my car”
When my dear late husband toured to the Hebredise in the 1990’s in a lovely Jaguar XJ8 the roads were completely untouched. A little to the right or left & a wheel would have fallen off the edge. We went to the island of Scalpy & a chap had to start up his boat up again in the inky darkness to take us travellers back to Tarbet. The sand was so beautiful & fine it would have gone into an egg timer. We travelled on to Lewis on Calmac from Stornaway to Ullapool. Oh I dream to go back. It would be easier for me now that the roads are so good. My dear Victor is gone 6 years last April -- Parkinson’s. Lovely memories Steve. ❤
I've always longed to visit these islands but thanks to your amazing efforts and excellent video's I don't feel so sad that I might not be able. Keep up the good work!❤
I preferred South Harris. There is a Harris Tweed shop in Tarbet just behind the brewery. In the summer the camper vans and tourist busses descend on the islands and cause all kinds of traffic caos. People seem to loose their reading skills too and park in passing places! The St Kilda ferries are run by the Engebritsen family, originally from Norway. One of their grandsons runs a farm called the Maccauly farm on Lewis and people with learning disabilities can work there. North Harris and South Harris are both owned by trusts set up by people living there. Absolutely loved our time there!
So many memories of Harris...skinny dipping after a hot hill climb, midge at Horgabost camping and a wedding in St Clements church. Think one of these tv repair programmes should come up and sort that bus out!
Another beautiful video Steve. Countryside similar to Connemara in Western Ireland so remote . Hope you made it to StKilda cant wait for the next one. You always make my weekend.
Boy when it rains in Scotland that is RAIN! Am so appreciative of being able to see these magnificent islands through your marvellous vids. Who cares about the weather, always beautiful!🇨🇦
Fanastic video. You never disappoint. The beach at Luskentyre isn't bad - but you should see the ones on Berneray - which is where the ferry goes to from Leverburgh!! Definitely worth going. The west beach on Berneray is the best on the western isles!
@@steve-marsh And when you arrive in Berneray there's a causeway to North Uist which is even more out of this world. North Uist and most islands to the south are connected by causeways. The newest one takes you from South Uist to Eriskay where another ferry takes you to Barra and Vatersay. But that's for another video series. BTw great video as always 😄
„Berneray - never heard of it“. I travelled the Outer Hebrides by public transport (bus & ferry) in 2010 and since there‘s no such on Sundays, I chose to be stuck on Berneray because you can easily walk around the whole island in a day. What a lovely little island that is! ❤ Thank you for another great video, Steve. Brings back memories and makes me want to go to the Western Isles again.
We were on Berneray in a hostel in 1999. Memorable place and some memorable people. We followed a little map the hostel had and it led us unfortunately to a private residence. The lady came out waving her hands and yelling. We apologized and when she found we were Americans she told us her brother lived in Chicago and we had a lovely chat.
@@scotlandfan79 Yes it was. I also remember a tour bus unloading in the field. The curious occupants walked over to observe us shaking out sleeping bags, carrying firewood and drinking Tennents. :)
What a beautiful island! These honest boxes would not last one hour in Florida where I lived most of my life, all the goods along with the money would be gone! Thank goodness I left and live in Austria since my wife passed away. Scotland is on my bucket list, thanks for taking us along.
This video not only made me miss my time on Harris, it showed me how much I have left to explore! The wanderlust is now strong to get back to Scotland, and Lewis and Harris! Thanks again for a great video, Steve!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. A wonderful trip down memory lane. One of my absolute favorite places I've had the privilege and pleasure to explore in this lifetime.
You always make me smile. Thank you for showing us lovely Harris. It was otherworldly and the beaches are more beautiful than the ones we have here in Florida. Hands down!
That island looks absolutely incredible. Hopefully the St. Kilda trip didn't get cancelled the next day, but if it did, I guess future Steve will have to drag himself all the way back here, and be forced to see this incredible scenery once more in hopes of being able to see St. Kilda
Spent many a day driving those roads visiting Harris and Lewis. Mys sister had a tiny cottage on Lewis. It's breathtaking. Like landing on another planet. The beaches of Harris, the Callanish Stones, the almost lunar landscape. Just an amazing place.
Who needs St Kilda with views like that on Harris?😉That was just spectacular mate👌even when the weather changed it was still glorious and this is why I love our country so much👍Good luck with St Kilda Steve🤞I'm sure Lewis will be just as amazing👍
I love the way you talk to the animals and the way they look at you. When we used to visit Scotland the sheep were a bit of a nightmare just sleeping in the road. We met a shepherd and his wife and they invited us to their bothie you had to move sheep and dogs off the furniture to sit down, wonderful times. We did enjoy ourselves.
There's enough lose stones knocking about there to build your house! That's it, I'll pack me bags and go there, find myself a free patch and get to work! 🤗 Absolutely lovely spots there! 🤩

Didn’t realise Flixbus went there ;) Reminds me of that caravan in Father Ted. The van where the infamous “these cows are very small, but the ones out there are far away” line took place lol Great video as always mate!

I was at Harris few weeks ago and it's amazing how quickly the weather goes from one extreme to another. Van camped at Horgabost and Nisabost and it's just paradise 👌
once spent Christmas on Harris, probably one of the best adult Christmas's of my life... it was one of those days when the radiant arches of quintuple rainbows rise out of the stark somberness of the hills... when white wisps of unfallen rain dance, like ancient fairies in the blackness of the stormy sky, even as the low sun lights the grasses into golden fire truly, the weather was both awesome and spectacular... as was the all-night Ceilidh at the old church... and the Monkfish luncheon we had... also, a lot of fascinating pre-history in that area, for example, Ardinashaig has traces of continuous settlement for more than 5000 years
The scenery is stunning on Harris. I cycled up the eastern road many years back. It was very up and down and wet but the warmth of the people made up for it.
I am going to record Steve saying "All the wee lochs" into a continuous loop that I can play whenever I'm in a bad mood. Impossible to listen to that line, with that Scottish brogue, without getting a smile on
Hi Steve. A year ago my wife and I made a return visit to Harris and Lewis. Without doubt the most beautiful of the Scottish Isles. So enjoyable to explore by car and foot. Every turn blows you away with the scenery. Both astonishingly beautiful islands. Thank you for rekindling many happy memories. 👏👏👍😎

Hi Steve, I was rewatching the race you had with Scott (Planes, Trains, Everything) and had an idea for another challenge you could both do. I know you’ve put in your vid descriptions in the past you like to hear suggestions so thought I’d drop you a message: Challenge: Starting somewhere central in the UK with good transport links, ie Leeds, one of you must head to the North coast of the UK whilst the other heads to the South Coast. Once there, swap (ie head from North coast to South coast) before returning to the starting point. Rules: You can use any form of overland transport but cannot fly. You can visit any part of the coast or town so long as it’s the North/South coast of the UK You can take any route. Points: Points are awarded for: Finishing first, Spending the least. Using the most unique forms of transport (ie train, bus, coach, subway, taxi, bike) Collecting certain items and completing certain challenges along the way (to be determined). Would love to hear your thoughts as I think this would be an epic race which could include a whole variety of fun challenges. Edit: Few ideas for challenges to earn bonus points: Acquire something for free. Best item wins. Person who goes to the most Northern/Southern location gets a bonus point. Take a photo of an old building. Oldest building wins. Acquire something Scottish in England and English in Scotland. Most creative wins.
It looks like a beautiful place, must try and visit sometime. The bus appears to be a Leyland Leopard with Plaxton Supreme Express bodywork new to British Airways in 1980.
What a wonderful place to see, the mountains, beaches and land scape where marvellous and the sheep added their own ambience. Thank you so much for yet again bringing us a stunning video and I do hope you get to St Kilda, till next time stay safe and well, cheers.
Thank you Steve for this video of the beautiful Isle of Harris. A long time ago a visited Berneray from the South. There was no bridge back then. The people of the only village were so nice there, seals close by, I drank from the watersupply-pond and made a walk with a friendly sheepdog to the top of one of the 2 hills. I also went to the beatiful 10 km long beach. There was not even a road to it, I was all by myself. I went for a swim in the turquoise cristalclear water: it was freezing! A tidal pool was warmer. I will never forget this special island.
Steve I lived on Scalpay for over 17 years. The village centre is not called Ardinashaig. That township is a few miles north of Tarbert on the Stornoway road. I was lucky to know the very old people who lived through the "old days".
Steve, this video blew me away for two reasons - the beauty of the Outer Hebrides and your brilliant way of presenting it in a friendly and personable fashion. I'm so glad I found this follow-up to your CalMac crossing. Simply put, great stuff and I will have to get up there to that part of the world soon!
Aye Steve, you have shown the world some fine places, fortunately for us there are plentgy more adventures still to go. Keep enjoying your travels as much as wse do. Dougie

Hi Steve, I was rewatching the race you had with Scott (Planes, Trains, Everything) and had an idea for another challenge you could both do. I know you’ve put in your vid descriptions in the past you like to hear suggestions so thought I’d drop you a message:
Challenge:
Starting somewhere central in the UK with good transport links, ie Leeds, one of you must head to the North coast of the UK whilst the other heads to the South Coast. Once there, swap (ie head from North coast to South coast) before returning to the starting point.
Rules:
You can use any form of overland transport but cannot fly.
You can visit any part of the coast or town so long as it’s the North/South coast of the UK
You can take any route.
Points:
Points are awarded for:
Finishing first,
Spending the least.
Using the most unique forms of transport (ie train, bus, coach, subway, taxi, bike)
Collecting certain items and completing certain challenges along the way (to be determined).
Would love to hear your thoughts as I think this would be an epic race which could include a whole variety of fun challenges.
Edit:
Few ideas for challenges to earn bonus points:
Acquire something for free. Best item wins.
Person who goes to the most Northern/Southern location gets a bonus point.
Take a photo of an old building. Oldest building wins.
Acquire something Scottish in England and English in Scotland. Most creative wins.
Scottish people can have the best humour - you remind me of my uncle
It looks like a beautiful place, must try and visit sometime. The bus appears to be a Leyland Leopard with Plaxton Supreme Express bodywork new to British Airways in 1980.
It looks stunning and peaceful, thanks for another great video steve
What a wonderful place to see, the mountains, beaches and land scape where marvellous and the sheep added their own ambience. Thank you so much for yet again bringing us a stunning video and I do hope you get to St Kilda, till next time stay safe and well, cheers.
Cheers Simon!
Scenery is certainly beautiful and thanks for the video.
Ahhhh.... "WHERE is your mother!!?" Great wee journey! Skies, beaches, glassy water... How wonderful!
Nice one Steve , never ending the place's in Scotland to visit 👍.
So true!
Steve I lived on Scalpay for over 17 years. The village centre is not called Ardinashaig. That township is a few miles north of Tarbert on the Stornoway road. I was lucky to know the very old people who lived through the "old days".
Even on a cloudy day Luskentyre is stunning. Harris and Lewis are gems!
20:05 i think its a depiction of a woman called a sheela-na-gig , more common in Ireland
Those beaches are absolutely stunning, wow 👍
Spectacular scenery.
Aye Steve, you have shown the world some fine places, fortunately for us there are plentgy more adventures still to go. Keep enjoying your travels as much as wse do. Dougie
