I think you should have a monthly episode with bhai saab we all can learn the old school way & maybe the real cooking tricks will be learnt. Loved this video amazing
Best video with techniques and ingredients. Thank you for asking your cousin to show his skill and knowledge not known to many outside of the Bengali community. I was amazed to hear that your cousin's wife had never tasted the restaurant chicken with Base gravy, glad she finally got to try it. Everything looked so delicious. Well done and good health to all of your family. InshaAllah more great recipes to come on the channel.
Oh my word. Am 60 and this reminds me of how things were in the early 80s in Rusholme in the original curry cafes. Chicken on the bone was my go to curry back then. When I went to uni in Sheffield in 1984 it was a different yet still old school. British culture at its best. So good I can taste it now. This needs to be preserved. Keep up the old school videos. Your cousin is a wonderful chef and a true gentleman of the culinary art of BIR. I love his hat and his tank top too.
Fantastic, feel like I'm watching in someones home from another time and place - you can feel the nostalgia, and yes to Bangladesh chicken korma and the simplified bhuna ! I really rather learn the originals, BIR is great but this is even better. Happy new year to all.
Lovely Latif! So much pleasure to watch, I felt like I’m in his kitchen too! Would love to see some of the more unique Bangladeshi foods including the one you mentioned with shutki! Please don’t simplify things too much, I would love to cook these as they should be even if it’s a lot of ingredients or prep as it’s half the fun! ❤
Love that 'Base Gravy' for the BIR curries. I knew there had to be potato in there, that gravy always so thick and full of deep flavours. It's basically a curry that serves as a Base to add layers of flavour complexity to the other dishes, amazing. ✔️✔️✔️
So thrilled to see your cousin sharing his cooking again! I wonder if one time you could show his ingredients and the packaging or bottles it comes in. I remember you did something similar years ago. It would be interesting to see if he purchases stuff differently than you do. Plus for me here in the states I am unfamiliar with what to buy exactly. I am not familiar buying some of the spices and stuff. Seeing what packaging it comes in would greatly assist me. Or maybe walk into an Indian store and point out the ingredients. Does he have a garden? Maybe a walk through with a show and tell.😊😁😋
A fantastic and tasty looking biryani and bhuna chicken coming from your cousin! And yes please a simplified version of the bhuna chicken and Bangladeshi chicken Korma would be greatly appreciated!
Just made the gravy with the chicken. I notice for the bhuna there's no tomato added whereas nearly all BIR add tomato puree to the pan. Also no kasuri methi. Is this because the recipes are home style? Amazing, thanks!
Sasa needs his own desi restaurant. Call it mamar bari or nana bari, set up as a restaurant that caterers for family bookings with pre booked dishes. I'd travel all the way down south to experience such mastery. Ma sha Allah! What a legend! Also, thank you for sharing such amazing recipes that have legendary stories behind them.
Hi fella This is the dogs as I'm 61 and remember this type of curry. This is the best video since you started and as you know I've been here since the start
Hey Latif I remember eating a proper chicken vindaloo on the bone from the Plaza Cafe in Manchester around 1980. Can you ask your cousin to recreate this very hot old school vindaloo. At the Plaza the menu stated Vindaloo either hot very hot or Suicide. Oh happy days . The curry was served in a bowl with a spoon and a pile of chapatis on a plate.
Amazing video, loved it. We use to get takeaway from a place in Slough 20 years ago called the kabana, they use to do a delicious saag and potato curry using tinned spinach, really dark in colour and really spicy , just wondering if your cousin has a similar old school recipe, keep up the great work, you are much appreciated 👍
@@aloysiushancock548that’s the one, just thinking it’s probably more like 30 years ago ! I probably had more than my fair share of there chicken kebabs, huge chunks of chicken in the fresh nan, didn’t they relocate almost opposite calling themselves the new kabana ?
I made your dads mixed powder wow better than all the other ones I’ve made.. beautiful curry and reminds me of the old days of having a curry, so tasty…
Hi latif. I didnt realise there is so much preparation to make biryani curry. This old man knows exactly what he's doing and he isn't taking any shortcuts ie using garam masala powder. Looks traditional 👌
You have such a nice family there love to you all.. i really want to try this on a chilled Saturday when time is plentiful.. I had Bangladeshi friends when i was a kid and wish i had gone when asked to go for dinner. We had boring plain english foods lol
Wonderful episode! Love you and cousin (I didn't catch his name) cooking together. As a generic American watching in California, are you speaking Bengali with him, or Hindi? Just curious. Love the channel and thank you for helping me explore more of the beautiful food of the subcontinent. 🙏👏😀

I think we also need the special Rice, Lentil and Chicken Kanji, Khichodi or porridge... very famous among the bangladeshi folk. The one i had was sweet, a hint of spice during the month of Ramadhan, get the cousin to do that.
Haven’t Evan started watching but Ino it’s gna be a banger get some old school fish curries on the channel would be amazing to see I made the other Chicken curry for the family they loved it
Great video chefs. The holy grail I seek is 1970’s / 80s vindaloo. Today it seems it’s just a hot curry, bung some spuds in and vinegar. Not good enough.
Latif, can I please request a video on tandoori caramelised onions? (The red ones in the thumbnail of your peshwari naan video.) I requested a few years ago but don't think you've done a video on them yet. Thank you as always brother.
