My buddies X3 just lost the pump on the freeway! Love the temp control on these. Threw it in limp mode before the coolant temp gauge ever got past halfway! Safe to say this video is going to be helpful tomorrow!
Thank you! You guys rock. This video is full of great info plus it showed me how to reassemble the air intake ducting on this model. That task seems very simple but those pieces don't want to fit together (and the front fitting of the long duct will actually rip) unless reassembled in the order that you show. This is the only source of information I've ever seen on how to do that. Thanks! 👍👍
I'd been procrastinating on replacing these on my X3 for a while leaving it parked in the garage for a couple months. I followed along to this video, and now they're done. Took me WAY longer than 30m mostly due to trying to get tools and bolts lined up on my back on the floor. It was successful all the same!
Success story we love to hear Tim! Sometimes things take longer than expected, but its always best to take your time, step by step, and get it done right vs rushing it (or not doing it at all)! Happy to help.
Excellent video, very well documented. I now can see exactly what is involved and how tight the vicinity is to work in. My N52 has less than 40K miles but is coming up on 14 years old so I think when I have this done I will also do all the hoses and the oil pump gaskets. Very good info, next time I'm in CT I have to stop in and say hello.
I'm at 80k on my E82...not looking forward to this also. There's a short 4" plastic tube up top that is a random fail point. Replace it with an 'alloy' update IIRC; makes total sense at this time while the coolant is drained.
Excellent! This video dropped on the same day I was replacing the radiator hose/mickey mouse flange on my N52 E90. On the E90 you have to remove the sway bar bracket to reach the pump, unless you have the assorted u-joints and flexible doodads described in this video. I'm not looking forward to when/if I have to replace the thermostat and water pump in that car.
@@fcpeuro yes! I used the one with the aluminum flange. When I did the coolant bleed it threw some codes about the coolant temp sensor so I’ll be replacing that too.
Awesome. Thank you. At how many Kms would someone consider changing the pump and or the thermostat? I just ordered the Thermostat from you guys, wondering if I should have ordered the pump too. 🤦🏼♂️
I’m having a 2E85 error code, which is a water pump miscommunication. Can that error code get my car on limp mode and stop the engine completely ? My 2008 X3 is not even cranking anymore.
135 mil km hoy empezó con una pequeña fuga en el termostato bmw x3 procederé a revisarlo bien video, este vehículo tiene muy poco espacio para trabajar
My X3 is overheating but not consistently and I'm NOT getting any codes, I've changed almost everything in the cooling system except the Thermostat, which I plan to do this weekend...Could it be my Fan?
If your fan is not switching on, that can cause issues with your coolant system. A sticking thermostat will also cause the vehicle to overheat, which could be your culprit.

Certainly, a nice feature having that! Glad to be of some help with this job!!

i really felt that "yess" at 9:50 lol. really resonated with me.
😅😅
Well explained video on how to do this thermostat and water pump replacement.
Thank you for watching, Richard!
Love it! More E83 content please!!
More to come!

With your video I am successful that's well maturity and God bless you.
God damn. Not looking forward to tackling this on my E82. Thanks for the detailed instructions.

Very detail and vivid video , clear explain very helpful ,thanks
Fantastic,excellent video well done.
Another job well done, Mike.
Спасибо большое!!!!! От друзей из России.
Ты мне очень помог!!!
I've got an 06 528 e61 to do this on today! Great diy. Thank you!

Never hurts having the right flexible doodad though Homer! Did you replace it with the Aluminum we offer!?
@@fcpeuro yes! I used the one with the aluminum flange. When I did the coolant bleed it threw some codes about the coolant temp sensor so I’ll be replacing that too.
I’m gonna be doing this to my z4 very soon. One advantage I have is the bottom of my car is pretty open so it should be easier than the x3
Take the wins where you can get em 🙂
Isn't it a good practice to replace all the hoses and expansion tank on an older X3 given the degradation due to heat and age?
Never a bad idea on any BMW really M R A !
Thanks brother this is very helpful video.👍

They sell a kit with both.
great job...would this be similar to 2012 x1. and is it possible to do this on car ramps......thanks
Seems simple enough all I need is a car lift now 😂
You got this!
Question: I have a 2008 BMW X.3… Can the thermostat develop small fractures and start to drip?
Hi Jerry, while not common, it can happen as plastic gets old and brittle.
Me paso eso a mi también yo voy a revisarlo, es de material plástico por eso no dura demasiado
what should i look into if i get the code 2DEB from a 2009 BMW x5 e70 n52. i also got a code 2E81 after replacing the water pump

My 2008 X3 is not even cranking anymore.
Been thinking about being a bmw technician till I seen this looks so complicated 😂
Excellent video..thank you
Is it basically the same on a 2012 X3?
How long from start to finish
Amazing, thanks
Our pleasure!
What’s up mike! Any chance we get some more 996 content? I’ll keep my fingers crossed:) hopefully the charging cable
Hi Nico, we keep seeing this in the comments section, I think we are going to have to queue it up soon!
@@fcpeuro that’s so exciting! I’ll keep my fingers crossed and will be buying it from u as soon as u put the video up haha
Will it mess with the timing chain to change it out
The thermostat has no sensor, it's connector is for a heating element. Beyond being an open or short there is no communication between it and the ECU.
Thank you for the note!

I have a 2006 e83 3.0 and I do not see this pump or thermostat...
What will happen if I put the water pump in too tight?

You R the "BMW Whisperer"..
😬😅
❤❤
Is this the same as the 2006 x3? Mine just went
I don't think, so that should be a m54 engine not N52
id pull the fan out first and then remove the coolant cap just to not risk contaminating the cooling system
Boom 👶
If it's only lasting 50 to 60,000 mi that's under EPA warranty.
Thanks Michael. Great job and well explained! I have this on my to-do list 📋
