      Yep, oil pan gasket how-to would be great. It might end up being a two-part video, though. It's a bigger job than the average pan gasket.

    When I torqued down the alternator new bolts, I did 10Nm plus 90° only. Because I really worried 180° would strip the thread or snap the bolt.

    Another great video. FYI the grommet at the bottom of the air box tends to come loose and can fall below. I solve that by gluing the grommet to the frame with gorilla glue before reassembly.

    Would mind making video how to register new battery ? How important is that to be registered ? If we failed to do so how long new battery typically last ? Is it getting charged at all ?
    Thanks for great contents.

    before replacing the alternator, check the positive lead bolt on the starter. the alternator wire is making a junction at the starter, and if that bolt is loose you'll have all kinds of issues that seem to be alternator related, that may go away temporarily when you replace the alternator due to the wires moving about, but come back after a while... had this problem on multiple BMWs, including e46 and e92.

    T60 or anything T socket is difficult to use when it comes to releasing the tension, as it can slip, as it happened to me a few times. To me, it’s a two person job. Always needed another person to slip or remove the belt while I release the tension, ensuring the T socket doesn’t slip.

    • @fcpeuro
      @fcpeuro  4 роки тому +2

      It was selfish of our video team to sit there and watch him suffer... a second set of hands would for sure have been easier! You're right though it can be really hard to trust a T-Anything when releasing tension OR breaking a bolt free. It can really feel like a gamble!

  • @gtcoffman

    Are the torque down specs for the four bolts on the alternator into the block the same for the N55 and an alternator replacement? Assuming BMW would do the same? I can't find these specs anywhere.

  • @jimcavanaugh6074
    @jimcavanaugh6074 4 роки тому +1

    For my car, if you simply removed the alternator bolts the belt tension is reduced without any "violence" from the tension in the belt. My tensioner had its ear broken off so that you can't use the T60.

    • @fcpeuro
      @fcpeuro  4 роки тому

      Jeez Jim thats a beefy bit of metal to just snap off, how'd that happen ^.^ you can wiggle it out for sure but when reinstalling or replacing the belt having slack in the belt instead of it under hard tension makes reinstall a bunch easier. But hey if there's a will there's a way!

    • @jimcavanaugh6074
      @jimcavanaugh6074 4 роки тому

      @@fcpeuro Yeah. to get it back on i bought a new tensioner from you guys. If the T60 is allowed to get misaligned it puts a bending load on that ear and it cracks. Thanks for all the video's. I did the oil filter housing gasket and the coolant pump and thermostat with the help of your vids. Thanks again and keep it up!

    FCP needs to find well qualified technicians for these tutorial videos. This tech did a horrible job of stripping the threads on the tensioner and he forgot to reinsert the battery-breather when he installed the new battery. Inattentive to procedures. I'm just curious if he missed some details crucial to the repair?
