I love the NRS era games but Armageddon & Deception are still my favorite mk games. Deception has introduced so many great things. I'm surprised this is the only time we had Hara-Kiris - a very unique finishing move. The Konquest mode is my favorite mode in the series.
Still got my copy of Deception I got at a Christmas 2004. Anyway I love the new mks they’re better than the ps2 games that’s just it. The only ones that come close are 2 & 3, trilogy isn’t bad either.
I got Deception off an extended neighbor, thinking it was a Soul Calibur game. The mangled Onaga still used to creep me out to the point I would shield my eyes.
Honestly, i'm surprised why people would shit on the roster. It features plenty of old characters who's last appeareance was as back as mk3 like Smoke, Jade and Nightwolf, the coolest New Deadly Alliance characters (except for Nitara) and classic ones - Liu Kang, Raiden. Roster especially shines with Unchained (PSP port) - it features gamecube exclusive Goro and Shao Khan as well as Jax, Frost and Blaze. In fact, Unchained is the definitive version of Deception! Btw, i recommend trying out Ultimate Mortal Kombat Deception mod, not only PSP and Gamecube characters are included, but we can also play as Quan Chi, Shang Tsung, Sonya and Sareena and it features new arenas
I think people mostly hate it for Kobra, Kira, Darrius, and Dairu. They could've been replaced by so many other characters and not changed the story at all. Kobra and Kira aren't even in the story. Darrius could've been Havik causing riots in Seido. And Dairu could've been Nitara, Movado, Hsu Hao, Rain, Khameleon, Kabal, or many others hired by Damashi to break Shujinko out of prison.
@@MEKK01 fun fact: Dairou was planned for Deadly Alliance as an evil samurai who serves Shang Tsung. I think they dropped the idea since DA already had a samurai character (Kenshi) and kept it for the next game. Imo, the idea behind Dairou is interesting but the execution is pretty bad. Can say the same about Darrius. As for Kobra and Kira - they just suck. Although Kobra movesets was pretty good with his fast hits and Infinites, definitely S-tier character gameplaywise
@@MEKK01 It feels a bit unfair. It's hardly as if any of the characters were that developed in MK1! Raiden's a thunder god he likes fighting, Sonya is a soldier who likes fighting, Sub-Zero is a cold ninja who likes fighting, Liu Kang is a protagonist who likes fighting. They only really developed as the games and tie-ins developed them. If Armageddon hadn't hit the big reset button and just thrown everyone into the pot with basically no storyline, there could have been a lot of room to develop all the characters as things moved on. MKD (and MK 11) had the problem comics have, where the fans get bored with the same thing, but they're also resistant to change and want things to stay the way they were when they started following the franchise, so you get erratic development where nobody can ever die or leave the franchise, with the occasional cosmic reboot-but-not-really.
@@paulgibbon5991 The characters had stories in mk1 beyond just wanting to fight. Sonya was a member of the special forces. They were hunting Kano and the Black Dragon and followed them to Shang Tsung's island where they were ambushed. Sub-Zero was there because he was payed to assassinate Shang Tsung, and used the tournament to get close to him. I agree the new characters could've been developed further, but Deception could've done that. Deadly Alliance had 7 new characters. and only 2 carried over to Deception, while Deception made 8 more. if they only kept the characters with decent stories like Ashrah, Hotaru and Havik, and gave the henchmen slots to Deadly Alliance newbies, they could've fleshed them out more.
This was my first and favorite MK game, I played it when I was 9-10 years old, I played it so much I finished every character, unlocked every crypt, character, ending etc, I may had completed 99% of the game, I don't remember doing it 100%
I gotta say, I played the hell out of this game as a kid. But like... the entire game is called Deception. The intro movie is pretty explicit about how Shujinko was decieved and then something bad happened. And then what's that? The dude telling you to grab all the dragon balls for him is actually a baddie? I was gobsmacked, utterly baffled. I think I was a slow child. (I beat the game for the first (and second and third) times as Mileena- I could beat it with her with my eyes closed. Shes my bby. Li Mei was a close second. I just like playing as the pretty ladies~
Deception is easily my favorite mortal kombat game. I had so much fun with Konquest mode despite the rough graphics. I love the cinematic story modes of current games but I wish they’d make an open world mk spinoff game.
I actually remember being 9 years old, and being stuck on the Jade Edenia fight for about a week. It was the hardest thing I remember doing in a video game.
I would love for them to bring Konquest mode back so we can travel through all the different realms. I bet with the technology they have now they could really do it justice Or do another Shaolin Monks, running around beating the shit out of enemies in different realms and leveling up would be so much fun
I have the warmest, fondest memories of this game. It came out when I was in 4th grade. I already loved MK, but the konquest mode was what first got me genuinely invested in the story. I didnt even know Baraka was part of a race of nomadic mutants til I played this. Fantastic game, truly no other fighting game this packed with content, even to this day.
This was my second MK game (my first being the home controller port of MK1). I loved this game so much but my friends little brother accidentally cracked it.
I remeber finishing this game in one night on my PSP emulator on my fucking phone, to this day I cant understand how the hell I manage to make the hard ass combos that were mandatory to continue the story on my touchscreen buttons, having no job really makes you proficient in useless things oh well... Edit: nice video btw new subscriber for sure

"But hey, it's better than the nothing that was in Deadly Alliance." Dare I say it's better than the nothing that's in MK1's Invasions. I love MK1 but invasion is terrible I grinded pretty much everything, it's rinse and repeat fights that are annoying with barely any good rewards, the hanzo scorpion was cool but that's it, leveling up characters and kqmeos takes so long, it blows cause that's how you get finishers, nrs knows we want a konquest idk why they can't listen for once
@@advocateofkaos3246well it takes alot of resources to make a fighting game now, animations, graphic quality, balancing, and then to add a whole free roam element with all that comes with that would take a very long time and a lot to of money, realistically people just wouldn’t want to wait that long, I love each era of mortal kombat, the 3d era more focused on story and world building rather than an in-depth fighting system, that’s wat allowed them pump out a bunch of extra modes that aren’t at all hard to make quickly besides conquest mode.
@@GingerSnaps13 Don’t be a fool, Street fighter 6 pulled it off and mk1 had a large enough budget they could have pulled it off if they really wanted to. The real reason mortal kombat went the invasion route isnt the reasons you are throwing but a far more simple reason: microtransanctions.. It is harder to monetize a conquest mode which is a complete self contained product whereas from early on they gleefully announced invasions would be getting regular seasons, special events and rotations. Why do you think that is? Because they genuinely think invasions are so good and amazing people would keep wanting to play it? With time limits and external pressure? Of course not. It will be the same thing as rotating towers of mk11, something for you to grind to unlock that super special time limited halloween fatality (to give an upcoming example) or that amazing skin for your fav character, but hurry whilst stock lasts! And its fine if you dont have the time or will to grind out a boring mode after already having done so for 40 hours, you can just pay in the shop ;) But hurry! Buy now before its rotated and you miss your chance! I swear gamers not wising up to this bs is why its so prevalent.
@@GingerSnaps13oh come on man. I agree with you about everything else, but let's be honest about the money that's bullshit. NRS is not by one of the richest companies in the world BUT they are backed by one. Don't tell me Warner Brothers couldn't give NRS the money to make it happen. They just got the same problem every other corporation on this planet has, their effing greedy and they're effing tight with money. It's not that they don't have the money. It's that they don't want to give NRS the money because the head of Warner Brothers is a greedy piece of shit. That's the truth. In some ways the franchise was in better hands at midway.
I remember owning the PS2 version, then when I got an Xbox, selling the PS2 version and getting the OG Xbox one. Konquest for some reason looked noticeably better on Xbox, character models are wider, textures are slightly higher res and lightning is slightly better as well. I later (much later) went back and compared all 3 version through emulation, and all of them in 4K (PS2, Xbox, Gamecube) and the Xbox version of Konquest in particular looks slightly different to the Gamecube and PS2 which basically look the same. I also owned Unchained on PSP, very impressive for the portable, but the camera had major problems on Konquest. Still, incredibly impressive to have the whole experience and with added fighters, all in the palm of your hand, in 2006!

The only ones that come close are 2 & 3, trilogy isn’t bad either.
@@Psychokyuubi666L take new suck
I gotta hand it to Li Mei, I think she has the most interesting ending in Arcade Mode. Imagine linking up with the final boss
She for the streeeeeeeeees!😂
I just now realized this but is cobra meant to be a reference to Johnny from the karate kid?
From what i read, Kobra was more of a Ken Masters rip -off. But your point has some logic, even if Johnny was not really training the japanese karate.
I got Deception off an extended neighbor, thinking it was a Soul Calibur game.
The mangled Onaga still used to creep me out to the point I would shield my eyes.
Mangled Onaga
@@sky-oq5mr lol.
Guess I though it was way worse than it is when I was a kid.
Looking back, it's relatively tame.
They also brought back Kabal from MK3, to Deception.
This was my first and favorite MK game, I played it when I was 9-10 years old, I played it so much I finished every character, unlocked every crypt, character, ending etc, I may had completed 99% of the game, I don't remember doing it 100%
This game terrified me when I was young, especially the Krypt....
"Maybe im biased, cuz I love the color red". That makes two of us my man lol
You mentioned Dr Mario, but Puzzle Kombat is just straight up Super Puzzle Fighter haha
Imagine saying that Armageddon was supposed to be the ending when clearly it wasn't
It was the ending of Midway
The ending of mw and the ending of the good mk games.

It was the end of that timeline

Deception is easily my favorite mortal kombat game. I had so much fun with Konquest mode despite the rough graphics. I love the cinematic story modes of current games but I wish they’d make an open world mk spinoff game.
I actually remember being 9 years old, and being stuck on the Jade Edenia fight for about a week. It was the hardest thing I remember doing in a video game.
bruh you called my ass out in the middle night. Cause i just got back from work and heated some old lassangna just to watch this video lmaoooooo
I hope you enjoyed your lasagna
0:33 dang, hearing that made me feel old and i was born in 97 XD
I would love for them to bring Konquest mode back so we can travel through all the different realms. I bet with the technology they have now they could really do it justice
Or do another Shaolin Monks, running around beating the shit out of enemies in different realms and leveling up would be so much fun
This was my favorite mortal kombat game. I have the most memories with it and most fun
deception is the best mk! i really like that people still make vids about it
Return of the king, lessss goooo
This was my first mortal kombat and left a great impression. Beating onaga was huge highlight
I still remember the mission when you had to give some dude a heart attack to enter his hut 😂
I wonder how you feel about the new Baraka in MK1 lol
I love him
and now, Shujinko is a Kameo fighter in Mortal Kombat 12
I love your mortal Kombat videos bro, I’m addicted to them
Thank you
the games intro scream, top 10 anime betrayals
This was my second MK game (my first being the home controller port of MK1). I loved this game so much but my friends little brother accidentally cracked it.
I Miss the 3d era mortal Kombat man
I love MK1 but I want mk to return to 3d combat
Me too man me to
Same same.
Deception was my first Mortal Kombat game I genuinely got into, and it's still one of my favorites to this day. I died to noob-smoke
LETSS GO HE FINISHED THE VIDEO
Geez dude! If you had a stiffy for Baraka back in Deception, I must assume you call him Daddy in MK1
Damn, you got issues with noob-smoke😂😂
Its nice to hear a youtuber who doesnt censor themselves
I remeber finishing this game in one night on my PSP emulator on my fucking phone, to this day I cant understand how the hell I manage to make the hard ass combos that were mandatory to continue the story on my touchscreen buttons, having no job really makes you proficient in useless things oh well...
Edit: nice video btw new subscriber for sure

Quick fix on that Kenshi chest you mentioned, it can be obtained outside the doors of the EarthRealm Village. All collectibles inside the village you couldn’t get move out there at random times

As a 39-years-old I remember this game came out when I was your age. I played this on Nintendo gamecube. At college men's dorm.
😂thanks for the upload. Funny commentary.😂
"But hey, it's better than the nothing that was in Deadly Alliance." Dare I say it's better than the nothing that's in MK1's Invasions. Crazy how this nearly 20 year old game's campaign controls better than that. I'm glad to see you find your bro, too.
another steele W, so glad I found your channel through the MK 1992 video
Agreed
@@GingerSnaps13
Don’t be a fool, Street fighter 6 pulled it off and mk1 had a large enough budget they could have pulled it off if they really wanted to.
And its fine if you dont have the time or will to grind out a boring mode after already having done so for 40 hours, you can just pay in the shop ;)
But hurry!
In some ways the franchise was in better hands at midway.
my fav game in the series, there is so much stuff packed into a game, the conquest, graveyard and minigames... loved every second playing it years ago

Deception IS the best MK game. I really hope they remaster it or something.
Idc why what anyone says that MK intro will always stay as the best intro in mk….well that and armageddon😂
Never heard anyone say subs design in this game isn’t great. WILD I STRONGLY disagree but respect the opinion
you did get me with that precision call out of watching this while eating a meal. well done
Would love to get a copy of these.
