He doesn't have the hand/eye coordination to input movements quickly and repeatedly. Does not understand spacing, frames, efficiency of attack, hit/harm boxes or have pattern recognition. For instance he says the AI is aggressive not understanding how its programmed while having figured out how to "make it dizzy" which is exploiting the programming of the AI This hurt him in the first game when he did not recognize how the computer responds to jump kicks and how he could have double jumped back then jump forward and timed the kick to have priority and blasted through the game. Being good at a fighting game takes invested time in learning all those aspects and also gaining reaction time due to familiarity. Hes not good because he did not put in the time required to be good is all. There should be no expectation for him to dedicate his time to this and you can also argue that it takes some of the fun out of it to do so
Maybe that's because they have different goals in mind. We think of them as of single faction, but in fact, they represent multiple factions, where one of them dominates the rest and the rest seeks to overthrow it
My parents got me Mortal Kombat II for Sega Genesis Christmas 1993. Shao Kahn was so cheap with the shoulder rush. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
22 growing up with this series you really just had to be there at the time. It was especially hype around mk9 for the longest and I even remember seeing my cousin rage for the first time over shao kahn. The old mk's 1,2 and 3 was introduced to my dad and it was just a fun time. MK1 is no different in my opinion and I'm grateful to be able to still be here to play these games. I'm even more grateful I had a dad that really loved video games as much as I did. Thank you for showing me a whole different world dad.🕊️🙏🏿
"I dunno... Wander the Earth? Search for my soul? That kind of thing." Wow. Amazing writing and character building. MK4, truly one of the games of all time.
I think the reason they didn’t name MK2011 MK9 is because it was pretty much a reboot/HD Remaster of MK1-3 (so pretty much MKT). Also they switched to NRS under Warner & the older games was under midway so maybe they did it because it was under different management idk. Now the X & XL thing, Cleary it was a play on the X & XL because DLC extra large I mean it made a little sense tbh. I do think they have lost the idea of the game & story now because every game is about timelines & to me I’m kinda over it. They reset it like twice now & I think it’s time to fully leave behind all the old characters & literally create new interesting characters. Last 2 new games pretty much relied on all the old characters & yes MK11 had some but most were forgettable tbh. I think they need to clearly keep sub zero & Scorpion because they are fan favs but I think they need to create all new characters & start fresh. The games all have a similar story & nothing new is being brought to the characters. I will say what I did like about MK1 is that they started doing the fuse characters & I would like to see that brought into future games because that’s more interesting than getting all the same characters. I actually would like a game were there’s a fusion of 2 characters & that way you get the moves you want but yeah you might be missing one character kinda
I don't mind taking out iconic characters if they are replaced by something equally as interesting, for instance reptile has been my favorite for decades, but if he was replaced they need to bring that animal element or something that won't leave a gap where an original character was. That being said, I was on board for them replacing Sonya and Johnny from now on, with their daughter Cassie. She possess both skills and abilities from her parents and would be an awesome two in one character that opens a space for another character on roster. NOPE!! They added all three again in MK11. I honestly thought the idea of introducing a new generation was to welcome new characters that would replace old ones, but wouldn't be taking away from the characters they replaced.
They tried adding new characters and they were revieved poorly. The only one they even kept around is Takeda. Tell me one thing Kung Jin did for the plot in mk9. You must not have played mk1 yet if you think they bring nothing new to the characters. Kenshi has a completely different back story and motivation, Raiden is a regular dude and Liu Kang is the god of Fire, and Liu Kang purposely re-wrote the characters in his timeline to be different versions of their past selves. And I don't even fully disagree with you, I think characters like Ferra/Torr and Erron Black need more appreciation in the current iteration of the game
TL;DR: old MKs spooked the hell out of me. The first MK game i've ever seen was UMK3, i was 5 at the time and still remember going to the arcade with my brother and getting some major spooks, i was used to SF and other colorful/bright FGs, but seeing this dark and gloomy game with real people just scared me beyond reason, the fact that the stages were devoid of life unsettled me even more; when he did Kung Lao's Tornado fatality i got so scared i started crying lmao.
The rant near the start about things having the same title was on point for me 🫡It pisses me off too and the tone in your voice is exactly my level of irritation 😂
AVGN did an upload like this touching base on all of the confusing chronological order of set games and movies. It's refreshing to finally watch a more modern take on things.
The trick about the older Reginald's is you have to learn the kombo's dodges And appropriate move system these games are simple and easy once you have mastered them
I was born in '92 but played all of the older games alot on the genesis ports. I played MK2 a'lot on a laundromat cabinet when i was younger . What really set in stone my morbid curiosity for gory games was that whenever i'd play MK4 in arcades and inevitably run out of quarters, seeing the damn continue/game over screen falling into the spikes left such a huge impression on me. I think me and a'lot of younger kids were both fascinated and terrified of that screen. I had nightmares of falling into bottomless pits alot after that lol.
13:34 You got me all in tears bro. I was alive in 93, I was a little kid and it was hard to play MK back then because the big kids and adults would always take it over. One day I went to play MK at the arcade, I got lucky and found one with no other people playing it. When I got up to it I noticed it looked different than normal, then I noticed right below Mortal Kombat was a roman numeral two. My brain exploded that day and has never recovered since.
Me personally- I like that they are constantly changing the Mortal Kombat titles from numbers to subtitles to regular mortal kombat title because it shows that they are experimenting and willing to provide something new for each game instead of following the same boring formula.
Hi There Steel Great video and i have subscribed. If i only had one pick for my favourite ever game it would be MK2 (Arcade). I used to go to my local Laser Quest and used to get beat everytime. My parents got me MK2 on sega megadrive 2 days before release for my birthday as they knew the game shop owner. I played it for months and learned every single move and fatality, and went back to the arcade to play the same guys again, and smash them . Im now 44 and I can still remember every single move, and fatality. Still love MK2 and its best game ever made in my opinion. keep the great videos coming!!
Dude, you have to compare it to the games of its time, SFII, Fatal Fury, and KOD, not today's standards. Back then MK was a novelty and made a huge impact. Anyway good video.
I put so much time into MK2, it was a blast. It came out when I was 12 and my dad had it pre-ordered at FuncoLand and brought it to me when I got out of school that day, the day the game dropped. I remember being SO hyped and me and my friends checking out the dope poster you got with the preorder (which I no longer have, unfortunately). We played it all night. What was cool about it was despite some of the characters moves seeming lackluster, you could develop techniques using certain ones to make some killer combos, just using timing and technique. My favorite was Reptile, but I also really liked Kung Lao and Kitana. If you held up or down after throwing Lao's hat or Kitana's fans, you could hit jumping or crouching opponents. If you do his Fatality with the hat head-decapitation, you can hilariously choose to spare your opponents life by holding up and making the hat whizz up above his head, despite the "DUHN DUHN DUHHNNNNN" music and the background getting dark.
Regardless of difficulty the AI will scale with how well you are doing and have a programmed ability that mimics Hit from DBZ. They can predict what you can do and counter in that split less than a second.
MK-92 and Ultimate MK3 were the best ones in my opinion i got ahold of the Ultimate MK3 magazine back then when i was in 5th grade i think ( wont get into how i got my hands on it) anyways i cut out the characters which were the size of an entire page and it had each players bio but i cut out the characters and glued them to my folders and binders maan i was the coolest kid in class that year
I discovered mortal Kombat 2 at six flags in st. Louis. And I'll remember it to the day I die!!!!!!!!! There were no commercials yet. I just stumbled into it in the arcade and almost fainted!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't even know a part 2 was on the way.
If I remember correctly the difficulty level on first games sets "when" the enemies begin to go hard. For example on easy you have more "easy" fights like the first one, and in hard mode they go hard like on the second or third fight
Lu Kang’s bicycle kick is easy. Hold the button BEFORE the round starts and release when ready. Or you can hold the button while he moves or jumps in round and unleash it at will… good luck…
Mortal Kombat was Hot in 93. I was about the perfect age and getting good at street fighter was just a little to hard. I have had a couple gaming moments like this, but I was like wow, the future of gaming is here.
They inly fighting game better than the klassics mk,s is the arcade killer instinct jaw dropping moment right there still my all time favourite fighter , would love it if fighters were still going in that dark realistic cgi or digitised fighters with 2023 tech that would be unbelievable impressive, and the first mk arcade / snes is still my favourite mortal Kombat except mk trilogy on psx , they still havent done shang t sung as cool as he was in the og mk that old wizard blue and brown pallet is so bad ass .
I was us to the SNES home port of MK2, but the bicycle kick could be loaded up whilst you jumped around goin "woo" and "waaaaah" and I think you could even throw your other punches and kicks while holding it down...
Well, what the matters most is you'd tried your best at it. A friend say that to me when I'm around 15 yrs old. So keep trying your best at any games, expectedly Mortal Kombat and the rest of the fighting games.
I wasn't able to get the Mortal Kombat collection on steam to work, so I wound up going for the DOS versions. I haven't played much yet but one big hang up I'm having nearly immediately for 1,2 and 3 is that GOG, the service I used to buy the games, did not include the manual, so that was a massive pain in the ass. At least they didn't forget for the 4th game
You could have played these in MAME and set the difficulty to Very Easy. Helps much, except for MK II which cheats anyways but there are good videos on YT how to cheese the AI easily. Nevertheless, good content!! Edit: sorry, you changed the difficulty setting. Forget what I wrote, except the thing with "good content" 😅
3:48 Even in a usual conversation, if you tell someone “Yeah I’ve been playing God of War,” the follow up question is going to be, “Oh the 2018 remake or Ragnorak?” “Oh no, the original PlayStation 2 God of War.” It doesn’t really matter what each game is called, you’re gonna have to preface which one anyways.
I go back to the original MK & MKII for the character models, the Asian aesthetic, the level designs and its combat. Simplicity doesn’t always equal bad.
Your trying to make it complicated it's really not bro 🤦 quit thinking your not good at it
You’re*

Another trick about these games is you can't get mad when you get mad it gets worse
If there's one recurring theme in Mortal Kombat, it's that the bad guys can't stop stabbing each other in the back.
Maybe that's because they have different goals in mind.
We think of them as of single faction, but in fact, they represent multiple factions, where one of them dominates the rest and the rest seeks to overthrow it
The anger from fighting Goro was hilariously accurate 😂😂😂
My parents got me Mortal Kombat II for Sega Genesis Christmas 1993. Shao Kahn was so cheap with the shoulder rush. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
22 growing up with this series you really just had to be there at the time. The rage coming from you fighting goro. Man I remember so many people in the arcades raging lol. Good times
Earned a subscriber purely off you screaming at Goro cause I remember that feeling when I was like 7 lmao
Yeah. Old school MK requires a bit of "git gud." Watching you fight Goro, it's hard not to shout "JUMP BACKWARDS."
Man I miss them old school days of the arcades 😊
"I dunno...
Wander the Earth?
Search for my soul?

NOPE!! They added all three again in MK11.
I honestly thought the idea of introducing a new generation was to welcome new characters that would replace old ones, but wouldn't be taking away from the characters they replaced.
I think Johnny Cage should be in it as well as the idea of MK was contrived based on Jean Claude in Bloodsport.
They tried adding new characters and they were revieved poorly. The only one they even kept around is Takeda. Tell me one thing Kung Jin did for the plot in mk9. Honestly the old MK games used to scare me too when I was a kid lol
The rant near the start about things having the same title was on point for me 🫡It pisses me off too and the tone in your voice is exactly my level of irritation 😂
11:16 The fear and anger in his voice.
Man, incredible reviews, funny stuff, and the retro video clips with the story brought back so many good memories. Great job, please keep it up.
Thank you bro
AVGN did an upload like this touching base on all of the confusing chronological order of set games and movies.

Great compilation 😎👍
Enjoyed watching this, ❤ the play thru and commentary!🙏🏆
Hearing your frustration 😂😂too funny😂👍
He finished me during the Kano x Goro match where he’s like “I not having at all”
You have the most acurate coments and opinions on these games.
I usually don’t find game rage funny but this guys rage was fkin hilarious
I just love watching man’s slowly go insane with how much the ai just fucks with him because brother same💀
I honestly don’t see the problem with the titling.
The next one will likely be called Mortal Kombat 13 and no one will be confused.
i always get so happy when i see a new video that u made
Thank you
If you thrive on stress-inducing video games, I suggest you attempt the Megaman X games.
Those games are almost as insane as battle toads
Megaman X is easy compared to MK, MK’s input reading is BS.
Giro fight = top tier comedy
The trick about the older Reginald's is you have to learn the kombo's dodges And appropriate move system these games are simple and easy once you have mastered them
Love your content keep up the great work
Thank you

All Mortal Kombat games are weird. That's part of what makes them awesome
"It's simple... but WHY?"
I felt that.
But it IS Mortal Kombat 12 because its Mortal Kombat 1....too. Eh? 😏
KANO VS GORO...I felt your pain😅
Hi There Steel
Great video and i have subscribed.

keep the great videos coming!!
The initial rant got my sub lol
10:43 that type of anger is any mk game on very hard lol not just the OGs
They want us to pronounce mortal Kombat and mortal Kombat like data and data
You see, this intro is the reason why I call the new game Mortal 1 Kombat.
Fun fact: tremor originally meant be in mortal Kombat trilogy but at the last second he was replaced with rain
Liked this video just for the honest saltiness you had to go through 😂.
Dude, you have to compare it to the games of its time, SFII, Fatal Fury, and KOD, not today's standards. Back then MK was a novelty and made a huge impact. Anyway good video.
11:11 i don't want to fight goro 😂😂
Got the aquatic ambiance in the background, I love it!!!
18:49 should have yelled "Get over here to the subscribe button!" Why does nobody ever think of that when doing a Mortal Kombat vid?!

I completely agree with the same-name thing
Modern Warfare is more confusing than Mortal Kombat
Regardless of difficulty the AI will scale with how well you are doing and have a programmed ability that mimics Hit from DBZ. They can predict what you can do and counter in that split less than a second.
i wish there were simpler ways to get mk deception
MK 2 is better on console. It has a wide range of unlockables and therefore has a sense of progression
The new Mk 1 should pf been called MK origins or somthing.
XL is 40 in numerals. Which is funny as MKX is a remake of the plotline in 4.
You forgot the expansion mortal kombat Aftermath! Lol
MK-92 and Ultimate MK3 were the best ones in my opinion i got ahold of the Ultimate MK3 magazine back then when i was in 5th grade i think ( wont get into how i got my hands on it) anyways i cut out the characters which were the size of an entire page and it had each players bio but i cut out the characters and glued them to my folders and binders maan i was the coolest kid in class that year
MK AI is seriously depressing. But the game is fun with friends.
Now I had PLENTY of warnings to stop drinking while watching this…at 10:24 I lost it lmfao
I miss arcades.
I'm looking forward to this new MK1 game.
i’m from the future don’t be they put horrors beyond minds comprehension in there u will not be the same
lol. I love how the credits put “M.D.” after the actor that played Shang.
It turns out sub zeros ground freeze just freezes the AI when they aren’t on it.
If I remember correctly the difficulty level on first games sets "when" the enemies begin to go hard. For example on easy you have more "easy" fights like the first one, and in hard mode they go hard like on the second or third fight
Scorpion controls are better and more accessible in MK 1
Lu Kang’s bicycle kick is easy. Hold the button BEFORE the round starts and release when ready. Or you can hold the button while he moves or jumps in round and unleash it at will… good luck…
Gstar321 would be proud of your acknowledgment of how fucked the AI is in the first games. Disgusting!
33:27
Sindel looks like Elon Musk. You can't unsee it once you see it.
I was scared of baraka too
Goro fight... Hilarious. Thanks bro
Mortal Kombat was Hot in 93. I was about the perfect age and getting good at street fighter was just a little to hard. I have had a couple gaming moments like this, but I was like wow, the future of gaming is here.
But you know what.. you said some real stuff tho… arcades in 93 was dope. A big line to play any mortal kombat 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Why is every character dying in MK4
no you see it's Mortal Kombat 1 (two)
it's secretly 12
Oh this did almost nothing for fighting games. This came out the same year as Street Fighter II: Turbo. MK's whole thing literally was "oh wow blood".
They should of called MK 1 MK origins or somthing, it acts like the original arcade doesn't even exist.
Mortal Kombat learning how to name their games from Xbox lol
Gold was not a standalone game it was on Dreamcast.
True but it removed the 4 which makes it sound standalone which is exactly my point
MK2 Baraka claws were so long I wondered how he could bend his elbow.
Real actually
They should have just gone with Roman numerals from the very first game and kept it simple, no subtitles, no nothing but a numbered series.
Feel like a alien for never playing MK2 an 4.played every one after, funny-er how 3 was my first xD
Man MK4 voice acting is COMPLETE ASS😂
Well, what the matters most is you'd tried your best at it. A friend say that to me when I'm around 15 yrs old. So keep trying your best at any games, expectedly Mortal Kombat and the rest of the fighting games.

Fair
Kano
Liu Kang
Rayden
Johnny Cage
Scorpion
Sub Zero
Sonya
Jade is the cheapest character.
Do u hate the chest pound hahahwh😂
Nice compilation
You know you can control his hat Kung lao...
In the second game when you throw his hat Press up or down and you can control his hat
I go back to the original MK & MKII for the character models, the Asian aesthetic, the level designs and its combat. Simplicity doesn’t always equal bad.
2:34 Frfr though 😂😂
XL is mortal kombat 40
MK 2 on Sega was my first game. Of coarse I wasn't good at it but it was still fun
Guess I'm an old f*** cause I like MK 1 and 2 better than all the rest.
The fucking voices of mortal kombat 4 are just all kool aid man voice filters lol
There were 3 ARCADE GAMES that PLAYERS
lined up for in the early
1990s.
Street Fighter 2, Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat!
