I think your teaching style is wonderful. I don't hear any long pauses. I love how you break down a difficult move into it's basic components and point out the key points. And you make skating fun.
OMG to wake up to this video this morning is gold! I paid floor tax last night trying to pivot turn on my shop floor - the same floor that sells and repairs mowers - ie the floor is coated in oil and you can slip at any moment and land on a chainsaw :( oh what I would give to skate on your rink and better still take a lesson. Bucket list trip for this Aussie xx
It had been about 20 years since i last skated lol just started back up and with your help i felt confident enough to come back out to the rink! It was awesome meeting you last night during one of your lessons!!
This is literally my story lol welcome back love😊😊
I am so glad you're back! Just think how great it's going to be... A couple of months from now you will look back and everything will have changed.
Ooh! I’m gonna try to meet her too she’s wonderful!
Thank you for all your great videos!
Thank you so much Bobbi! I really appreciate this. I will buy myself a drink and raise it up to you!
OMG I've had an epiphany and can now identify exactly why I've been struggling with this transition for so long and how to fix it! You are truly a gift and so talented, Dirty! Thank you for breaking this down!!!
I love getting epiphanies when watching videos like this. When I then try them out I actually manage to do it after a few tries.
People who know how to explain things like her are truly fantastic!
For real, I started watching you during the pandemic and learned to skate in my garage, this year I got the nerve up to join Roller Derby and I still hear your voice in my head telling my to hold my snack area and drop my 'fun zone'! Lots of love from Queensland, Australia!
This was so helpful! This was my next step of progression that I feel I’ve been stuck on. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Dirty Deborah! I learned from your videos 4 years ago when I first started skating, and now I'm back to learn some more tricks. Thank you for your videos!
That is awesome!
I needed this one ❤ skating for 3 years now, but i am still scared to go from backwards to forwards. Especially when going faster..
You truly have the best tutorials 👌👌
Literally working on this right now, what great timing!
Very helpful, Debbie! I visited FVSC today for the first time in many years and it was so much fun! I am relearning how to skate again after years of being off skates and realize I never really got proper lessons when I was growing up! Looking forward to being there on Coffee Klatch Tuesdays to practice some of the great tips you've shared in your wonderful videos! Please keep making them!
Come to R&B in the morning on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and skate with me!
Ok... so DON'T look down? 😂😂😂 Dang, busted 🤪 .. I've been trying to figure this out for a month or two. I think working on keeping my heels close during the weight transfer will make the difference for me ( fingers crossed 🙏 ). Sincerly, thanks so much for this, Dirty! I know some of us were pestering you for this after you did the front to back version, and we all appreciate you answering the call!
Thank you so much - yes, been wrestling with this for AGES!!!! It feels choppy and clunky. Putting the weight on the opposite leg to direction of turn and getting on that outside edge is the key. Gonna go practice!! Thank you :)
I cannot wait to try it this way. I've been trying to figure this out for three years 😹.
Great lessons. I've been pausing to skate backwards.
I love this outfit.
I’ve been taking roller skating lessons for about 6 weeks now. The teacher said you need 20 hours to become a good skater so I’m going to try to keep going every week.
That is awesome!
Your videos are always so helpful. Thank you so much! 🖤
the down lean look OOOMPH had me ROLLLLLINNNNNNNNN😂😂😂😂
This is me, clunky and scary, but I am watching you on repeat to try and get the mechanics right, thank you 🤗
You can do it!
Love your tutorial
Keep em coming, Dirty❤
I've been skating for about 30 years but am embarrassingly bad considering. I can do this transition pretty easily on my dominant side front or back but, after years of being stagnant & now that I'm deliberately focusing, I'm only just _now_ forcing myself to do it weak side as well. The shakiness I feel underscores just how little I know about what the dominant side has more organically learned. It's been getting better, but what you mentioned about the initial turn out via the back outside edge will make a world of difference despite it being such a small details. I'm learning it really is the little things. Thanks.
I agree with you with the dominant side versus the non dominant side I had my right knee replaced 16 months ago and I’ve been back skating 10 months of the 16, because my passion for skating is so intense and just want to get better than I’ve ever been. Wasn’t able to skate for a very very long time. Now I can again, thank you for sharing. And thanks @dirty
Your videos have always brought me so much joy and appreciate them still now, even as I’ve been skating for years and still struggle with transitions. Thank you!
Needed this one. 🙏🏾
so many of my skating hang ups are not being able to comprehend that its not always on a straight path for many things. i failed to learn 3 point turns for ages before i realised what they were even called and that thier name indicated the motion your wheels go. i still cant 3 point but now i know what to work on lmao
I have always been able to transition from forward to backwards but recently I’ve been trying go from backward to forward to show my 13 yr old son how it’s done…I have been practicing and getting much better at it! I wish I were in LA to come visit your skating rink ♡
Thank you! This is the video I NEEDED!!! Will get on my skates now!
Perfect!
Yes!! The magic is putting the weight on the foot that is turning !!!!!
Lol! “That’s my new move!”
I feel seen 👀💜
Thanks!
I can't thank you enough for all these videos! You have an amazing gift for teaching, and it is so much appreciated! You have helped me and my husband so much. I couldn't be happier in my life to be back into skating. It has done so much for me in so many different ways ❤❤❤
Oh this is so awesome! Thank you!
Hola😊 from FL: I have a question; How can I take advantage of the rink diagrams if I am a novice apprentice? Thank you for your videos I am learning a lot.
Would you do a "wheel anatomy" video discussing spacers, and how lighted wheels operate?
Sure that sounds like a great topic.
I've been skating for almost 3 years and still can't make this turn seamlessly. I know what I'm doing incorrectly, and that's placing my foot too far away from my other one when I make the turn. They're in an L shape, not a spread eagle, but what I'm doing is reaching far behind me, and my heels aren't very close. They're this shape I _ 😮💨I can't wait to try again next time I'm at the rink!
Same problem w me. Hips aren’t cooperating.
Deborah, I need your help. I bought the Sure Grip fames and I love them, but I need to adjust the trunks so they can give more and I can turn or pivot on them. There's no screw or whatever it's called that I can adjust. Can you help me?
Yay Nicole! She is a bada$$ Great video!
You should go to Hollywood, and star in one of those X-men movies. Maybe be Storm or maybe in the fantastic 4 movies. You are an awesome sight to behold. lolo and you appear to be a lot of fun.
Also this type of transition should be done at low speed right? It seems to happen so quickly when i watch other skaters.
As you learn to use your edges, you can increase speed.
Hello Deborah...I discovered that my skates are off balance...one wheel is lower than the others. Instead of buying some used I'm looking at something substantial...The sure grips fame vs Ridell Angels...what are you personal thoughts or do you have a better idea...Like Sure Grips Malibu, but I want something for indoor skating. Any thoughts
This video spilled charisma all over me
what hardness are your wheels? thanks
Can we get another 3 turn video I’m doing it but my balance is off I learned how to skate in 1 week and somehow I’m keeping up with intermediate people and I just want to get better at it!
Yes! And thank you so much!
Need to come skate in California I litteraly watch you for a week and got better and people don’t believe I just started !
It's not how bad you mess up but it's how well you come out of it. 😂 Words from this retired DJ
Amen.
❤skatelife
Hey there i got a question. im a 300 pound man and i got some skates and im wondering should i loosen the trucks and wheels cause of my weight so i can roll better? if soo do u know how loose they should be ?
Hey best to watch my skate anatomy video on my playlist titled gear.
@@Dirtydeborahharry Ok! thank you!
Wouldn't that have been great when I broke my wrist, if I could have just done a push up!!! Yup, that's me... 😂. The wife said, when I'm healed by the end of Summer, I'm only allowed to do rink skating... 😂. I said I wanted to head back to the street, and I was flat denied.
Oh no! I am so sorry to hear that you've gotten injured. Street skating is definitely a whole new ball game. I have a feeling you will get back to it though.
But see your not going in a straight line it's like a mini turn before you turn. I've been skating for 4 months now and have been struggling so bad with this. Like if you are turning clockwise, your are already going to the left to form the V in the feet. And in previous videos I thought it was supposed to be straight line. I was trying to practice this in Atlanta and I kept getting cut by kids trying to be cool cutting the corners. And dodging kids going in the opposite direction. Wasn't a good time last time.
Okay I hope I understand your comment correctly. You do not have to be in a straight line. We are on wheels and we are using our center line as an axis. If we use our body weight and our ability to lean, we can make these turns without having to place our heels in a direct line.
I think i understand . It looks like the turning has started before you raise the oposit foot.
Nice! I wish you would show the "final goal" without the step-by-step direction as a last example. But, as always, your instruction is fantastic. Love you!
1:38 (guilty) 🛼🙃😳🤦🏾♀️
Good lord woman you are gorgeous and omg that WHOOTY omg 😱
I finally got a pair of SG Fames for an amazing price. Talked to a skate shop as you recommended, since I don't live near one, and sized down from a W8 shoe size to a 6 for a perfect fit! They are so comfortable and a game changer. They sure beat my last quads that I jumped homemade ramps with - red white and blue Roller Derbys as a kid. 😂
DD I could have never gotten this far without all your suggestions. 🫶 Ty
