Easy fix is to flip the keeper around strap so the one with the grooves is at the back - it makes it much easier to release and you can always put it back if you need the security of it staying on.
I just got this watch and I am a big G-Shock fan boy and have 5 or 6 (I bought it for nostalgia as I watched 3 men and baby and saw Tom Selleck wearing the watch I had when I was younger and this was the closest one I could find). But have to say I think this watch is great even without the nostalgia element. More legible than a G-Shock, indiglo is amazing and most of all the button are easier and more intuitive than G-Shock to operate.

Both are my favorite brands, but I must say that for a few years now I'm leaning a little more towards Timex. Casio dazzles a lot with its multifunction advertising, but to tell the truth you don't need a watch to have the world time of 1000 different cities, nor a data bank that stores the birthdays of your entire family tree, nor that can withstand being dropped by a bomb on you, nor carrying a scientific calculator on your wrist; You only need a digital watch to have 4 things: accurate time, a good chronograph, acceptable water resistance, and good lighting; From then on anything is welcome but it is not essential either. I prefer Timex because its screen looks cleaner, without so much bells and whistles.

I've been wearing the Casio W86 this whole time. Haven't worn a mechanical watch in over a year! TBH this Casio is all I really need I'm washing it 5-10 times a day.

I got the Timex one for timing my laps at the ymca pool. I wanted the 200 meters and the large display.

I have the DW5600 G-Shock square, which is indispensable and a stunning bargain. Just lucked into a couple open box Timex watches for cheap, including an "oversized" blackout Ironman. Here's the big difference, aside from specs: the Ironman is too big for my little wrist at 45mm wide and very long lug to lug, but it wears great because of the streamlined design. But the Square seems bulky, even though it's smaller. I also have a big round Casio analog watch with a kinda G-Shocky case, and it's a similar feeling: the larger Casios have these full-height bumpers all around, which protect the watch while really bulking it out. They're like little castles. The Timex has a more tapered, domelike profile. And they make the same watch in several sizes, down to 38mm, which is my next buy. The little round Expedition digital is also right sized at 39mm. Casio seems to make their men's digitals in two sizes: too small and too big. That said, I wear a Casio F-105 to bed every night, and the A-168 is one of my favs, and both are "too small." Bottom line, these are all amazing little devices, get them all. 😊

Timex hands down, readability, more functions and no nonsense display.

I have the same Timex Ironman with a velcro strap. It cost $10 more. It's very easy to put on and take off in like 2 seconds.

Got both and found the Iron man easier to read. So far it's held up well in all whether I've worked in and the gym.

Very informative. Casio's new releases in the G-Shock lineup show that they are getting on par with Timex in terms of display. The keeper is there to secure the keeper while the watch is on the wrist.

Much nicer display on the Timex, I like the keeper function also but I see your point.

Tochiro, absolutely. The display on the Ironman is WAY better than on the G-Shock. Timex could teach Casio a thing or two about LCD technology.

I recently purchased a Timex ironman with a Velcro strap, I saw your video about g shock and Timex ironman comparison, the one about controversy and who is better etc. Anyways, I saw the strap with the barb keeper. I looked all over and can't find it. Long story short I'd like to swap my Velcro for the one with the keeper. My model number is T5K198 any ideas on how I might find one like yours?
    Thank, and great videos.

I also have the T5K198, I also bought the T5K195 at the same time. One has Velcro and the other has the resin strap with the keeper. Both from Wal- Mart. $ 42 each.

I became a watch hound over these past few years. I have autos, analogs, etc. took a gander with Casio and haven’t looked back. I’ve become a digital hound ( Casios, Nixons, Ripcurl, Freestyle, etc. ) definitely adding the Ironman to my rotation 😅👍🏼

@@mlmperez1114 I'm kinda the same... isn't it weird that there are all these amazing fancy analog watches around, but somehow the digitals keep getting our attention? So anyway, I've heard that Nixon has really taken a nosedive in QC lately. What's your experience with them?

But wait, it's waterproof, why even take it off? I mean I see the point, it can be a pain BUT it stops the tail end of the strap from sticking out and catching on stuff like pockets etc... Personally I like it and again, the watch is waterproof, I never take it off (unless I wear something else),
