I had two dead Ironmans. Checked the local battery shop and they wanted 23 bucks a piece to put the batteries in, sans the price of the battery. Thankfully I was smart enough to check UA-cam and I found your video. Like most, I could not figure out the freaking latches. Thanks for a great video!
on the other hand you weren’t smart enough to avoid buying a Timex Ironman watch. They just look like a cheap attempt to imitate g-shock and the digits are too vertically elongated. Plus why on earth would they add these annoying additional steps to remove the watch band.

@@BruceAlanR It helped me, too! That label saying to unlatch maybe could have illustrated the motion you did, but maybe there wasn't room! Your demonstration made it easy-peezy! Thanks from me, as well!
Best, cheapest watch I’ve ever owned! Got mine 6 years ago and the battery just went out. Was afraid I would break the white clip holding the battery in, so I looked it up. Thanks for the time of making the tutorial.
Many thanks from Brazil!! I've had this watch for almost ten years now, and I simply love it. I've had to change its battery only once, but took it to a store. This time it happened during the weekend, and I just cannot function without it. Pretty easy to find the battery and five minutes later I've had it replaced. Thank you so very much!! Obrigada from Rio de Janeiro!!!
Great video! I made the mistake of trying to replace the battery myself, BEFORE watching this video, and taking apart the whole module to get the battery out. This video shows the proper way to do it! I got the whole thing back together again, and it works great, but advise others to watch the video if you don't know what you are doing!
Thanks for the endorsement! I've take this thing apart completely a few times as well, but I don't recommend it. There are delicate parts that can easily be broken, for example, the small metal tab under the Start/Split button. Thanks again!
This video is proof that you really can find just about everything on the internet. I was stumped by this watch battery, and this video did the trick. Thank you so much!
Great video. Just came back from Walmart where the neither the girl working there, or myself could figure out how to release the battery clip. Put the pieces in a bag and came home. Watched your video and got it going again. Best watch I have ever had.
Thank you for this. I was about to go to a watchshop for my battery change when I found my old kit of tiny screwdrivers, but then I had no idea how exactly the latch system worked! I fully thought at first glance that the white plastic bits WERE the latch -- than goodness I didn't push down on those and break them by accident. Thanks again!
Thanks Bruce! I appreciate that you took the time and effort to create this video. The "unlatch" step was NOT intuitively obvious to me! I used the pointy part of a safety pin for that step since I didn't have a straight pin like you showed. My watch is up and running with a new battery. Thanks again!
Excellent. I could have spent a day (and probably broken something) trying to get the clamp holding the battery free. The pin method worked instantly. Well done and thanks
Thank you for making a very straight forward video!! The hardest part was removing the latch. Thank you again for helping me to bring my Expedition back to life!!
Excellent video. I was trying to change battery of my daughter's watch, but was struggling so much, because I was doing something wrong. But after watching the video, I got the exact directions, & I fixed it. Thank you so much for sharing the video. My daughter is super happy now...
A solid, straightforward process for non-mechanically inclined individuals like myself. I completed that same operation you did.....after watching your video...in about the same time you did. Complete success!!! Thank you so much!!!
I found it was a little trickier to get the plate off the back than shown.. Mine was under the band. Great utube!! So proud to have changed the battery myself!! Thank you.
Great video! I have a ladies Ironman Triathlon watch that is my backup watch. I had gotten the back off with no problem but was flummoxed by the latches. Your video showed me how to easily remove and replace that latch and I now have a happily functional watch on my arm. Thank you!
Thankfully, I watched your video BEFORE attempting the battery change. I found that it was easier to hold the new battery in with an eraser (at the end of a pencil) while trying to get the latch on!
Love the Ironman watches. They take a beating and work forever. I saw one of these models at Walmart marked down to $2, new, in box, because it had a fading display (push the Indiglo button and the display would disappear for a few seconds). So I bought it, watched your video and learned about the pin to unlatch the battery holder (Thanks! My other Ironman is older and has a completely different holder that doesn't need a pin to release it). Now I have another completely working one that I can wear with my "dress flannels".
Thanks! Saved me from destroying my watch with the battery latch! I finally found your UA-cam in a sea of "Pop the lid, replace battery, push lid" streams.
This is the same battery retainer used in the Timex Expedition. I've replaced the battery several times but never can remember how to unlatch it. Thanks for posting this!
Done! The smallest jeweler's flathead I have wasn't working to pop that clamp and if not for seeing you use a pin I might've trashed the watch attempting to pry that battery out with the screwdriver. Thanks so much!
Awesome! Glad it worked out! I’ve never had to short the pads after a battery change although some folks have said I just got lucky. I must be pretty lucky since I’ve never had to reset it. 😃
Thank you so much. I was having such an issue trying to figure out how to get that clip off. This video was so useful. Thank you For the longest time, I thought those plastic tabs were what needed to Unclip. I didn't realize I needed a pin. I thought I could do it with a flat screwdriver.
Thanks for a great video ---the close-ups were especially helpful. My first attempts were unsuccessful, because I bent the hold-down, then got the gold clip under the battery. Now it works! Thanks again.
Thanks for this video! I was all excited about finding a proper battery and screwdriver to get my watch working again but I was baffled the moment I opened the case. Super helpful and easy to follow!
Oh my gosh, thank you so very much! I've always taken my watch to a jeweler or watch repair store for this task, but now I can (and have!) done this on my own, thanks to your easy-to-follow video. Thank you!!!
Thank you Rich, your video was very helpful. It was your suggestion to remove the piece of paper covering the battery that helped me realise the battery clamp on my Ironman watch was different. It was actually held in place by a tiny screw on one side, which once released allowed the clamp to hinge open. So satisfying to be able to do these tiny jobs. Cheers!
Great video. I got totally thrown off when it said "Unlatch to remove battery." Never seen that before in any watch. Was afraid I was going to break it. Thank you!
Fantastic tutorial. Excellent camera work. Dialog was enough to explain without trying to be cute.. Your video save me a trip to Walmart for a new watch.
TY!! That "latch" set-up is the least obvious things I've ever seen from Timex. The label that they put over the latch body completely hides what should be easy to see. Sheeesh!
Thank you for a clear straightforward tutorial. The tough part was getting the clip holding the battery to release. I still don’t understand how the mechanism works; but I managed to get it free and then reclip it more or less by accident, or at least trial and error. The watch is reset and running smoothly, and I hope still waterproof. The fix requires some patience and is about at the limits of my eyesight, even with cheaters. The tiny screws are also at the limit of handling with my mitts. I actually thought of asking my wife with her delicate hands to take over for the screws.

Hope you're not tired of getting comments on this video but I'm another who has just been helped by your video. Fortunately I watched this before trying to change the battery. The "latch catch" would likely have lead to me doing some damage if I'd tried to do that without seeing you do it first.
Very helpful. Like so many others, I wasn't sure how to remove the clip, and with a long history of destroying watch mechanisms and similar, I was nervous about where to apply pressure.
Thank you your video allowed me to get that clip off where I had no clue how to do it without probably damaging The Watch thanks for the info great video and very helpful and precise in a lot of ways I was impressed in your detail on how to do something right since it was so exact I will add that some people like wearing rubber gloves when they handle batteries so the oils from your hands don't get on the battery other than that it was all the info I would expect from a jeweler that does it for a living thank you for the helpful video 👍😁
Oh you’re so awesome! thank you very much for sharing your skills ,easy to follow you step by step ,you did a good job,you are a good teacher I salute you!🤩now I already replaced the batt. Of my watch without pressure..God Bless You be safe always😘
Thanks so much for making this video! Like a lot of other people it seems, I came to UA-cam to try to find out how to undo the latches after a lot of unsuccessful trying lol. Really helpful video, so thank you!
Mission accomplished - thanks for a clear and simple instructional video. I love my Ironman as I found it to last longer than the Casio 100 meter digitals whose water seals fail.
I wish I had thought to look up this video before I tried removing the battery. Hopefully I didn’t break the latch thing! Thank you for this super clear explanation!
Great video. Helped me replace the battery. Once part I noticed is (missing?) I had to short the pads to restart the watch. Other than that this video is perfect for a DIY battery replacement. Thanks!
Thank you for pointing that out. In all of my battery replacements, I’ve never had to short the pads. For anyone looking to do it, you can refer to my other video: How to Short Pads To Reset Timex Ironman Triathlon after Battery Insertion ua-cam.com/video/oNnxSqQ4hJY/v-deo.html 😃👍
A definite thanks for the video you make it look very do able explaining all the steps in the details you explain i read thru thei instruction booklet and the Website Timex makes it appear to be way more complicated than it really is and i as a DIYer thought to myself it’s just a battery and resetting a digital watch how damn hard can that be ? My Father did everything himself utilizing Repair Manuals and Schematics , once i watched and helped him drop the Automatic transmission out of a Volvo StationWagon and we opened it up , adjusted the bands and reinstalled it in the car so he could drive it to work the following morning ! that Car was still going strong 25 years later !
Great story! Thanks for sharing that. My Dad was an electrical engineer and major DIYer. He built our first color TV (had a remote) in the 70’s from a Heath kit… because he could. Ha! He took classes at a local tech school in his free time to learn about small engine and lawn mower repair. For everything else he read books. I still have his basic plumbing book which was published by Reader’s Digest. Now we have UA-cam and it’s amazing what you can learn.
Great video! I didn't want to screw into my table, so I cut some masking tape to hold it down really well. It's worth taking your time instead of rushing through it, risking damaging the seal or other parts of the watch.
My T5K606 did not work at all after replacing the battery. Turns out I had to follow the instructions on the battery clamp sticker: short these two pads to reset the watch. Once I shorted them with a screwdriver, the watch came to life. The video helped because my sticker was worn off and unreadable. Thanks!
@@BruceAlanR I did not, primarily because I did not know that I needed to look for that. I don't recall it being mentioned in the video above, nor in its description. That said, I may have missed it, I really wasn't planning to spend more than a minute on this project.
Thank you so much for this video! The closeup views were worth a million for these 53 year old eyes. My Indiglo function still doesn't work, but at least everything else works on this old watch of mine.
Wonderful! Even this old pensioner ( who really can't afford the expensive watch repair fees) learned how to change the battery on her watch. Clear and concise, easy-to-follow. Thank you so much.
Nice job! Dropping the screws can definitely be an issue. Before I started changing the batteries myself I’d take my Ironman Classic to a jeweler. One day the jeweler was chatting with me while changing the battery and dropped a screw on the floor. He couldn’t find it so he replaced it with the wrong size screw... which eventually fell out. He also removed the gasket and never replaced it. So... to make a long story short, that’s why I started changing batteries myself. Ha!
Thank you sir, this was very helpful. I bought the timex for my son. I certainly wanted to be able to replace the battery with minimal cussing. The trickiest part is the clamp. Without the video, I would have mangled the clamp. It was still tricky though. And Thank You for not having a shaky camera😀
Absolutely brilliant thanks - easy to follow instructions - and replaced my battery and set timings etc. No one in my town of Gisborne (NZ) replaces watch batteries so this worked a treat - thanks heaps,
Tweezers! Just the tool I needed to launch the even tinier screw holding the battery band down to a far-flung corner of the room! 🚀 Lucky for me, all it took was some improvised bending. Once I got the back put on, it still works
Ha! Yes, I’ve flung those tiny screws too. Ironically, it happens because I’m squeezing the tweezers too hard… because I’m afraid to lose the screw… and then I hear it ricochet and I have to get out a magnet to find it. Years ago when I took my Ironman classic to a jeweler, he did the same thing, but he couldn’t find the flung screw so he replaced it with the wrong size. After that the watch leaked. 😟
Thanks. I never would have figured out the "latch" referred to on the sticker without watching your video. I couldn't find my supply of straight pins but found that a bulletin board push pin did the trick. Project completed in just a few minutes.
Tyvm! Great instructions and demonstration.Fingers crossed a fresh battery will resurrect my old T5K195. An inexpensive battery (vs a new watch) is worth giving it a go.🤞Ty again.
This was absolutely GREAT!!! Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I have this Ironman Shock, and like everyone else, I could not figure out how to unlatch that metal cover. I really like this watch, so I'm glad I was able to fix it thanks to your video. 👍
wow!!! good video. How lame is Timex that it now requires instructions to open watch and get to the battery. It originally required a single watch makers Philips screw driver. Oh NO! gotta find a pin from a dress shirt and a small flat head to make sure the cell clip snapped into place. It is like other customer service - various levels of crap. Thank you very much for the video. It would have been hours figuring out the clip design.
I agree. What’s also lame is I haven’t been able to figure out the size of the gasket in order to replace it. Eventually the gasket will stretch and dry out to the point that the watch will leak. Be sure to use silicon lube and keep the gasket hydrated.
Another person here who never would have figured out how to remove the latches without your video. Thanks so much!

Oh you’re so awesome! thank you very much for sharing your skills ,easy to follow you step by step ,you did a good job,you are a good teacher I salute you!🤩now I already replaced the batt. Of my watch without pressure..God Bless You be safe always😘
Always happy to hear the video was helpful. Thanks for the kind words. Cheers!
Thank you for the great video. As mentioned below the latches would never have been "found" without your video.
😁⏰👍
Thanks so much for making this video! Like a lot of other people it seems, I came to UA-cam to try to find out how to undo the latches after a lot of unsuccessful trying lol. Really helpful video, so thank you!
Very welcome! ⏰👍
Thanks, I was struggling to figure out the latches also. A nice a simple video that just does what it’s meant to do with no waffle.
Glad it helped! I like waffles, but try not to waffle. 😃
Mission accomplished - thanks for a clear and simple instructional video. I love my Ironman as I found it to last longer than the Casio 100 meter digitals whose water seals fail.
So glad the video was helpful. I love the Ironmans as well. The gaskets do wear out after a while though.
I wish I had thought to look up this video before I tried removing the battery. Hopefully I didn’t break the latch thing! Thank you for this super clear explanation!
I’m glad the video was helpful. The latch is definitely the tricky part!
Thank you! The battery latch was new to me. My Timex Ironman Triathlon watch is working again!
You are welcome! Glad the video was helpful. The latch is definitely the tricky part. ⏰👍
Awesome video! You saved me a trip to the watch shop. I couldn't figure out the clamps but your pin trick worked like a charm.
Awesome! Glad it was helpful! Thanks for leaving a comment!
For anyone looking to do it, you can refer to my other video:

😃👍
Outstanding! I was about to give up on the latches until I found your most excellent video. You helped me preserve my man points.
Lol. Glad it was helpful. 😃👍
Great video! I didn't want to screw into my table, so I cut some masking tape to hold it down really well.
It's worth taking your time instead of rushing through it, risking damaging the seal or other parts of the watch.
Great idea! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks very much. I struggled with that clip for 45 min. before watching this video. Thanks again.
Glad it was helpful. Thanks for leaving a comment.
I need my watch band replacedanother band
Bravo. Made swapping a battery out with my son super easy. Thanks.
Very welcome!
My T5K606 did not work at all after replacing the battery.
Turns out I had to follow the instructions on the battery clamp sticker: short these two pads to reset the watch. Once I shorted them with a screwdriver, the watch came to life.
The video helped because my sticker was worn off and unreadable. Thanks!
Hopefully you saw my other video?

@@BruceAlanR I did not, primarily because I did not know that I needed to look for that. I don't recall it being mentioned in the video above, nor in its description. That said, I may have missed it, I really wasn't planning to spend more than a minute on this project.
Thank you so much for this video! The closeup views were worth a million for these 53 year old eyes. My Indiglo function still doesn't work, but at least everything else works on this old watch of mine.
Ha! I hear you! My eyes have the same issues with small print and tiny things… and my eyes are the same age as yours. 😁
Thanks! I was a bit uncertain about releasing the battery retainer and your example was exactly what I needed.
Glad it helped! ⏰👍
Wonderful! Even this old pensioner ( who really can't afford the expensive watch repair fees) learned how to change the battery on her watch. Clear and concise, easy-to-follow. Thank you so much.
You’re very welcome! I’m always happy to hear the video is helpful. Thanks for the feedback!
thanks for this i would never have figured this out or it would have taken an age for me. brilliant
perfect! I was able to replace the battery in about 3 minutes - including the minute spent trying to pick up the little screws I kept dropping ;)
Ha!
Thank you!!! Best UA-cam instructional video I’ve ever watched (no pun intended)!
Ha! Glad it was helpful!
Glad it was helpful. Thanks for leaving a comment. The clasp is definitely the tricky part. 😃
Absolutely brilliant thanks - easy to follow instructions - and replaced my battery and set timings etc. No one in my town of Gisborne (NZ) replaces watch batteries so this worked a treat - thanks heaps,
New Zealand? Wow! You're welcome! Glad the video was helpful.
Yep, close-up of how to undo latches was a great help. Thanks!
Very welcome! ⏰
This was SUPER helpful! I had no idea how that clamp worked.
Glad it was helpful and I appreciate that you left a comment.

Nice job on the video. Battery is replaced and no need to short pads and battery. Display came in right away! Thanks:)
Excellent! Glad the video was helpful! 😃⏰👍
Great video. I would have never figured out to use a pin to release those battery clamps. Thank you!
You’re welcome. Glad it was helpful. 😃👍
Excellent video for replacing battery and setting date and time. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful! ⏰👍
Definitely a life saver. My 62 year old father was distraught that his watch quit working. We worked through it together with your help! 😊
Awesome! Thanks for sharing that story and I’m glad the video was helpful! Happy Holidays!
Great video. I bought an ironman and the batt went out in a month. This was perfect to change. AND set because i didn't have the manuel. Well done.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for leaving a comment.
Thank you for this! I don't think I'd have ever figured out that latch on my own. Cheers!
Glad I could help!
Thanks, this helped with my Timex Expedition with CR2016 battery. Same design inside with metal clip, the pin worked perfect to pry the clip off.
Excellent! I was thinking about getting an Expedition to add to the collection. 😃👍
You're a Great Man. Thank you and God bless you. 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤😊😊😊
Ha! Thanks for the kind words. Glad the video was helpful.
Thanks. I never would have figured out the "latch" referred to on the sticker without watching your video. I couldn't find my supply of straight pins but found that a bulletin board push pin did the trick. Project completed in just a few minutes.
Glad the video was helpful. I’m glad a bulletin board pin did the trick! Thanks for leaving a comment.
Tyvm! Great instructions and demonstration.Fingers crossed a fresh battery will resurrect my old T5K195. An inexpensive battery (vs a new watch) is worth giving it a go.🤞Ty again.
Good luck! ⏰👍
Thanks for the video. I was struggling with releasing the clamp, your demonstration helped.
Glad it was helpful! 👍
Thank you so much for the great video. I was really stuck on the battery part.
👍
This was absolutely GREAT!!! Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
I have this Ironman Shock, and like everyone else, I could not figure out how to unlatch that metal cover.
I really like this watch, so I'm glad I was able to fix it thanks to your video. 👍
Glad it was helpful! ⏰👍
Thanks for the video ! I was stuck with getting the battery out, your video helped me get it done !!!
You are welcome! Glad it was helpful!
Just changed the battery on the same model of watch fantastic video. Thank you!
Glad the video was helpful! ⏰👍
Excellent video!! Second time I've used this video to change the battery. I just can't kill this ironman watch although I seemingly am trying!
Ha! Takes a licken’ and keeps on ticken’.
wow!!!
I thought Snuggly wasn't a real word, haha! Nice How-To video! Have a great day and thanks for sharing!
Very welcome! I’m glad the video was helpful! 😃👍
