- In this short ad-hoc video, Corey from IDParts shares a few tips and tricks to getting the DSG transmission out.
Please be aware that this transmission is VERY heavy. ** DO NOT TRY AND GET UNDERNEATH THE TRANSMISSION TO GET IT OUT OF THE CAR. IF IT FALL IT WILL SERIOUSLY INJURE YOU **
Regarding getting the transmission back in, two words: cherry picker. There is a eyelet hole on the top of the transmission that you can push a hook through. - Авто та транспорт
Dual-mass flywheel - no torque converter bolts to remove, also there is a bolt hidden in the opening for the starter if anyone was wandering
Thankyou!!!!
thank you sm
I have never done a DSG box before but I’m doing one tomorrow & needed to get an idea of the task ahead. And this is perfect for me only 3 minutes and as much as I need to know 👍thanks
If you have if you have a transmission with a hoisting hole in front of the trans cooler, using a engine hoist will help tremendously. Also notching out the aluminum shield to make room for the axel will save you some aggravation
Thanks for sharing, good tip w/ the spare tire jack, using that fer sure. Its easy to take out the radiator fans; just 4 little torx screws, 1 electrical plug. - thanks again, take care
Thanks so much for posting this it was a great help.........short and to the point.........and bonus was no swearing..........thanks
I will be doing this same job on the floor, so if i don't need to drop the sub frame that will save me a lot of work. Thanks for the great tips.
Nice tip with the jack ill be sure to use in future
Subscribed and very helpful video
Can you tell me is the gearbox removal procedure same in VW Passat(2012)?
I bought a brand new LUK flywheel recently and it had the same free play both rotational and sideways as your old one!
Yes its normal for new ones to have a little play side to side and rotational.
Will the scissor jack on the subframe harm the engine mount?
i have a question abouit transmission
i have a transmission to replace but they are with diffrent id the one on the car is NJM and the one i want to replace it with is MSX, what you recomend me ?
Awesome job, good video, just what I needed. Gonna steel some of your technique for my videos too lol Thanks

Great video
Best way to reinstall the driveshaft flange back in passenger side?
I'm late but does anyone has any pointers to install it. I cand get the transmission to close already broke an ear on the bell housing 😭😭
I would question your assessment of that flywheel. I've had brand new ones move that much too. What brand is your new one? As to the lateral movement, the support bearing is inside the transmission so I would assume it's to allow for any minor misalignment. (Mark@Rusty'sImport)
Can't speak for your experience but its also hard to assesss movement over video. This one was clearly faulty and very noisey. We use LUK brand DMFs and the new ones have much much less movement than this one we took out.
Hi where are u located and how much u charge 4 this service?
So what year is this car?
Good video but I wish you had shown as the tool to hold the engine up saw a glimpse of it
Hello, I have a 2010 VW CC and I am worried about the transmission, when I am driving all the gears are working ok, excepting the reverse, sometimes when I set on R y press the gas pedal and never goes in reverse, I have to move the handle from P ro S many times and after that it does work, what do you think according to your experience, do I have to replace the entire transmission or just the flywheel that you show in the video, I would appreciate a lot for your answer and your advice
You need to get the mechatronic unit looked at. No need to remove the transmission to get it out.
Yeah it’s probably the solenoid that changes gears its a pretty expensive job at the garage but if you know how to you can do it at home since there is no special tools needed
How badly was the old flywheel rattling around? How many miles did it do?
+compu85 Just under 160,000 miles. Rattling horribly on shut down. I was also getting some drivetrain vibration under load which has also disappeared since the swap.
Do I need to remove the exhaust to swing the motor forward? I'm doing this job right now. Thanks. David
No
Is the engine just hanging by the left-side mount once the transmission mount next to the cooler is removed? Isn't that hard on the mount?
I'm pretty sure he would have had another stand under the engine pan. I agree that the engine should not hang only on the right side engine mount.
Do you remove both axels to get dsg off? I have r36 passat
look at the video when he says about the shield, he removed the passenger axle side to the gearbox, NOT from the spindle, six triple square bolts (better have an impact gun, is a pain to remove them).
Driver's side he removed the comple axle from the spindle.
If you are asking such question, do not do this DIY.
Did you replace the clutches?
They are inside the transmission and they dont usualy go bad if you do regular oil changes because they ate wet clutches
Even the new one have lateral movement, that doesnt mean its bad.
Yes I believe that if he held that tightly and used 2 hands the inner could rotate slightly.
Hey man if the dual clutch is bad will the car not get in gear
Thats probably the mechatronic unit
Every other video I see them saying lean trans towards driver cabin then down. Reverse for install.. 🤔
Great video but why not go to a smf .thanks
Can’t because to much high torque and won’t work with this system.
how much does this thing weigh?
200lbs
205 pounds for trans and about 35 pounds for the flywheel.
i can get my flywheel off the motor side i started taking off the 8 or so bolts my flywheel is starting to come aprt after the 4th bolt..i dont get it..youre flywheel has a few less bolts than mine but everything else is the same?
I am having a terrible time getting my transmission back in get caught on the passanger axle output of hits subframe on, driver side.
Just doing clutch job on my Mk7 R. I removed everything both axles, driveshaft and whole subframe. Made the job whole lot easier.. Cant imagine doing that with all these things on.
If you drain the oil you can remove the driveshaft flange from the differential. Makes a big difference.
@@dopiaza2006 You don't need to drain the DGS oil to do that. You will be fine removing the 6mm alan bolt from inside the flange and then removing the flange. It will be lubricated with DSG fluid but it won't be pouring out by any means. Actually, the removal process from the manual directs you to remove the driver-side axle flange.
why do some people put those junky dmf's back instead of a single mass flywheel?
Unlike a standard transmission where you can use a standard flywheel there is no other option on the DSG transmissions.
Last tip - dont you EVER put that piece of shit in your car again :D
If only...
