Jeremy, I would guess between 2009 & 2014, it looks a lot like ours., which is a 2013. I don't think there is much difference in generations or the VW Stable including Audi.as far as general procedure goes.
Procedure is a little wrong. You can screw in plastic level tube before filling in the oil. When you done filling the oils quickly remove adapter and put drain cap. After temperature set drain extras of oil.
CORRECTION!!! Once the fluid is drained out, insert the black plastic valve (it does have a hole in the center so fluid WILL go through). THEN, proceed to fill with new transmission fluid either from above or below.
I think the point of not putting the black tube back in right away and filling with 2.5 liters then cycling through the gears is to flush the old fluid out of every part of the transmission. Then draining that 2.5 liters, to install the black tube for the final refill. I dont think that step is necessary, but if you want to be super picky about it, do the step and the fluid change will be that much cleaner.
Well, we had all that paperwork and missed a very important step. Replace the black fill plug prior to filling the transmission. It was painful to see so much of that expensive DSG fluid pouring out of the transmission after the fill😞
Great job! Wish I owned my car with DSG trans. 10+ yrs. ago., or that I had a hoist right now. Sadly, my days of going under my car are gone...., again great job....😀
This was not correct. The black tube needs to be reinserted after draining the old fluid but BEFORE adding the new fluid. You let a ton of new fluid drain out while reinserting the black tube.

OMG You did this WRONG! Do not follow this video. You are supposed to reinstall the level pipe before filling. To set the fluid level you need to leave the engine running and allow the internal pump to circulate fluid. You drain the excess fluid when the DSG fluid reaches 35C - 45C. A VW/Audi scan tool is used to monitor the transmission fluid temperature.
Yes you can, it just takes a little more time to fill. FCP Euro sells the whole adapter, hose, and funnel kit for about $40. I bought this fluid kit recently and I plan on doing this this weekend.
what a crazy design - fill oil from drain plug and filter hidden under battery so you cant easily just at least change the filter. why cant you just add the oil slowly in via the oil filter hole ? what a messy way to have to fill the oil, wasting a load of oil whilst fiddling with that plastic thing.
It seems odd but by having that long plastic piece in place it prevents over-filling by having the excess drain out. Not the most elegant, but it works.
The way that this transmission needs to be filled, ...what a WASTE of fluid, hence going through these fill steps. ....Volkswagen? This is the best your "engineers" can do? But that said, Good video, thank you!
Why don't you guys ever talk about the showstoppers. I can't remove the battery tray. It's attached to the air box. Looks impossible to remove. Stopped the whole project. I hate it when you people do videos but never show the hardest things.
NOOO you are runing the transmission! It needs to be drained at 49 degrees celsius in order to get all the oil out and also the transmission should be washed with a special liquid on the inside
I can’t speak to that, but the instructions say to not let the fluid get above 45C and (personally) I would not put anything other than DSG fluid in the trans unless it is being rebuilt.
Pretty obvious watching this video for 2 seconds that you leave the tube in before you fill it up. Pisses me off when he's rookies try to make out like they know what they're doing. Totally jam someone up doing stupid crap. Unbelievable
The standpipe that sets the fluid level is supposed to be installed first then attach the adapter to fill the DSG with the new fluid. Once that is done remove the fill adapter and put the drain plug back into place and run the transmission through all the gears waiting 3 seconds btwn shifts. After that is done let the vehicle run until the fluid comes up to the recommended temperature and then turn the vehicle off and let the fluid drain until it is a slow trickle and then install and torque the drain plug. The fluid must be brought up to temperature as it expands as it gets hot and running it up to temperature allows the new fluid to move air out of the nooks and crannies inside the case and filter circuit.
@@davidbias2509 Your comment "turn the vehicle off and let the fluid drain until it is a slow trickle and then install and torque the drain plug" contradicts several other youtube videos, where the fluid levelling procedure requires the engine to remain running whilst letting the fluid drain to a slow trickle.

Ok I’m going to do this but how do you know the correct levels adding fluid from the top?
Do I just put in 6 liters and pull the initial drain plug after? Is that the excess?🤔
hundreds?? i booked mine in today and was £177
VW dealership near me charges $600 USD and to do it myself is about $150 USD lol
Did i see in the video he is under the car with rear end sitting in the hydraulic jack?.
There are jack stands as well
What year is this VW?
2011
@@AutoAnatomy thank you. Do you know if the 2012 is the same?
Thank you
good job. thank you.
Thanks!
great video thank you!!
Glad you liked it!
Nice!
how much do you think a mechanic would of cost??
No idea, probably $100-150 for parts and at least two hours labor. All in I would think around $400-500
They asked $449.95 here in mid-mo. 2/3/23. Dealership.
Pretty certain when you cycle through gears your meant to leave it idle
In idle, foot on the brake. He let the wheels spin, causing codes. Hopefully no damage.
Can I put oil throw the gearbox Filter
Not sure, it was designed to be filled from the bottom
OMG You did this WRONG! Do not follow this video.
You are supposed to reinstall the level pipe before filling.
To set the fluid level you need to leave the engine running and allow the internal pump to circulate fluid. You drain the excess fluid when the DSG fluid reaches 35C - 45C.
A VW/Audi scan tool is used to monitor the transmission fluid temperature.
Thanks for the feedback. It seems there are varying opinions on the correct timing of the level pipe installation.
awesome video!
Thank you!
will this work for a 2006 Jetta 2.5 (BGP)?
Not sure, this was on a 2011 Jetta Sportwagen
Thnaks man! help me out for guidance. Have nice day
You're welcome!
The temperature also needed to be checked out
What year and model ?
2011 Jetta Sportwagen TDI
What's the size of the plastic plug on the inside after the 14mm hex? Thanks
It’s an 8mm hex
8mm
He says 8mm 🙄
İsnt there mecatronic fluid tho?
For this model it’s specific DSG fluid
Can you add fluid through the filter area?
Not sure
Yes you can, it just takes a little more time to fill. FCP Euro sells the whole adapter, hose, and funnel kit for about $40. I bought this fluid kit recently and I plan on doing this this weekend.
Is this the same kit for a 06 jetta dsg 2.0t fsi?
Yes but you can’t check the fluid level with engine running
How often do you change the fluid?
I think it's every 40k or 50k
@@AutoAnatomy it is 60k on 2015 jetta tdi
Would this be the same for my 2013 passat tdi?
I would imagine it's very similar.
@@AutoAnatomy okay thanks, love the videos btw. You're doing a service hah
Can you provide a link of the fill tool you purchased on Amazon?
Of course he can't..that would make things to easy..he already got your click 😂
should have cleaned the filter housing
THANK YOU!!!!
Great job. How do I do this on a 09 Vw Passat 2.0 T manual 6 speed.
Not sure
Bro, why didn't you just top up the DSG fluid from where he changed the filter instead of burning all the seals?"
Burning the seals? This is the way the factory states to fill the transmission.
Funny how mechanics charge u 300/400€ for this lightweight job kinda crazy
People who don't know mechanic, pay them and I have seen people doing mechanic on their cars and they end up ruining their cars.
what a crazy design - fill oil from drain plug and filter hidden under battery so you cant easily just at least change the filter. why cant you just add the oil slowly in via the oil filter hole ?
what a messy way to have to fill the oil, wasting a load of oil whilst fiddling with that plastic thing.
It seems odd but by having that long plastic piece in place it prevents over-filling by having the excess drain out. Not the most elegant, but it works.
You can replace the plastic straw from the bottom before filling with new fluid. You can also fill from the top if you want to - it is just slower.
The way that this transmission needs to be filled, ...what a WASTE of fluid, hence going through these fill steps. ....Volkswagen? This is the best your "engineers" can do? But that said, Good video, thank you!
Thank you!
Dude broke the bolt loose with a bolt driver..... 😢
Easy job eh
Why don't you guys ever talk about the showstoppers. I can't remove the battery tray. It's attached to the air box. Looks impossible to remove. Stopped the whole project. I hate it when you people do videos but never show the hardest things.
If you email me at autoanatomy@icloud.com, I can walk you through removal of the air box (if you like). Happy to help.
It you canna even remove your battery tray, don’t do any diy on your motor 😢
Raynor Villages
NOOO you are runing the transmission! It needs to be drained at 49 degrees celsius in order to get all the oil out and also the transmission should be washed with a special liquid on the inside
Fluid should be 35-45C and I have never heard of any special liquid that goes in the trans, except the DSG specific fluid.
@@AutoAnatomy that's what the guy at VW told me, and also my mechanic
I can’t speak to that, but the instructions say to not let the fluid get above 45C and (personally) I would not put anything other than DSG fluid in the trans unless it is being rebuilt.
Pretty obvious watching this video for 2 seconds that you leave the tube in before you fill it up. Pisses me off when he's rookies try to make out like they know what they're doing. Totally jam someone up doing stupid crap. Unbelievable
Thanks for the feedback, I'm always learning.
what a mess and a way to lose one liter of good oil,
Don't buy a car with a DSG transmission!!! If they break, and they regularly do, it will cost a small fortune to get it repaired (3,5-6K)!
there is no need for all this work and buying new plug...there is a much better way..
The procedure is definitely wrong and can result in a damaged transmission.
Better consult a service Manuel, e.g. ELSA.
Nothing wrong with the procedure, why do you think so?
Because the long plug is suppose to be installed before you fill the transmission.
...disagree as well....
Great video!
Thank you!
