    I used a cherry picker to get it out. there is a bolt hole on the top of the transmission. I put a bolt threw and hooked it up to the cherry picker then lowered it to the ground. I didn't remove the crossmembrer. I hope I can get it back in the same way the new dmf comes on Tuesday I'll keep you posted. this is the most helpful video I have seen!!!

    It is not necessary to remove the sub frame bolts and the lower control arm's inner bolts. We perform the DSG DMF replacement without having to completely remove/lower the transmission. The key here is to provide enough room to allow for access to the flywheel bolts along with enough room to remove the flywheel from between the engine and transmission separation. We also find that removing the electric cooling fan assembly provides additional room to swing the engine/transmission forward.

I took it to one garage and they told me all i need to do is change the engine mounts, i also took it to another garage and they said not only do i have to change the engine mounts but i have to change the dual mass fly wheel as well. When i turn the ac on, the car revs goes from 610 to 910 and the vibrations stops completely until the ac is turned off again. Do you think this could be a problem with the dual mass fly wheel. Many thanks !!!!!! Please get back to me asap before i waste a lot of money !! P.S the engine sounds completely the same when i engage and dis engage the clutch.

    The frame when you install it can move as much as 1/4 of an inch. If when you tighten it back up, you drive the car and your steering wheel is off at all or your car pulls either direction. you need to have the car re-aligned. They will charge you usually 1 extra hours labor to loosen the frame and move it to the specified area. It usually causes a caster problem and can make your steering wheel off center. Test drive after install!!!!

    These DSGs are not as bad as you might think. They do need fluid and filter properly changed every 40K miles and there is a VCDS calibration process that can be performed after each fluid/filter change which adjust wear tolerances.

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  7 років тому

      Well if it is the flywheel it would have been making noise for a while. Highly unlikely but possible.. Probably engine problem. How was the oil? Remember these cars are designed to use oil to lubricate the turbo. You need to top them off between oil changes... if it was the flywheel and it has happened. usually it would have some case damage on the bell housing around the transmission.

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  7 років тому

      also on an 06 the cam wears out often causing noise. but would not normally cause engine to lock up unless the worn valve train caused the valve to stick open from wear around the cylinder head. Cam wear is usually average 120k miles. So if your engine is bad. I would recommend replacing it with a used engine and if the engine has more than 120k miles put a new cam in with that. Also use Penotosin 5-40. this will make the cam last longer. using substandard oil is a common problem with the tdi.

      oh. also these engines usually dont make much rattling sound. Just a slight clicking. Here is the best description of how the flywheel sounds when going bad. You usually hear a shuttering after you shut down the engine. Normally you shoudnt hear anything when you shut the engine down. If you were hearing any noise while it was running there was definately a serious problem. I run 5-40 synthetic 505.1 pentosin. That is the only oil other than Motul I would run in one of these as well. If the engine is turning it probably is not bad probably DMF came apart. I would tear it down and check

    Did you reuse all the original bolts? I've read forums with people saying it's okay to reuse the original bolts and others saying absolutely don't.

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  7 років тому +1

      all the bolts for the flywheel should be replaced. Most of the others are ok to reuse. To be sure check the torque specification and look for torque to yield specs. If they have a torque specification that says torque to "" lbs and then turn 1/4 or 1/2 turn. then that bolt is a stretch bolt and should be replaced. Stretch bolts are made of spring steel and are like a spring that holds even pressure even when there is wear on the parts. All other bolts that I am aware of are not torque to yield. And most are not as critical as the flywheel so I did not replace them. Only the flywheel bolts for me.

    i had probelms with the dmf on a mk5 tdi dsg 140 , changed it to a new luk dmf , after a lot of investigation found that one of the mounts wasnt in place 100% fixed that now no noise ; buuut a new problem is here , now if the car is cold ( aka cold start) it does some weird fluctuation in rpm between 700 and 1 k feels weird + if u lift off the brake in D or R it feels like it s gonna stall ( no noise other than of it near stalling ) sometimes it shuts off , no loss in power , no codes , and it s normal when warm doesn t near stall if u lift off without accelerating .... if someone reading this has ever had this or similar to it on a similar car plz help , i m still trying to diagnose the problem different ways but if by chance someone can help it d be great

    • @Mikefngarage

      Try doing a trans adaption procedure. Check ross tech website. Not sure on the fluctuation of RPM. is it gas or diesel if gas you might have a vacuum leak which would cause all those issues. Hose off or broken somewhere. I use propane or carb spray to find it.

      Well as you may know I have owned several VWs. And I will be the first to admit they are quite problematic and particular. If serviced right they can be fairly reliable in comparison to other models.I have had the following problems. AC, FAN, Flywheel, rear brake pads, and diesel flapper. That is it 180k miles. The MPG of the diesel engine is unmatched in the USA. But I might consider the Chevy Cruze with the eco diesel as a competitive option.

    • @Mikefngarage

      Never done one but I know the trans is different. I would immagine the flywheel is very similar and still question why VW is not changing the design on these

    Skoda Superb 2.0 125KW DSG. Vibrates/shudders on acceleration. If DSG in N. no issues. The problem is not related to vehicle speed, rather how much torque is applied, worst between 1500-2500 RPM. Drive axles, bearings, wheels, engine mounts replaced, no difference. I suspect the DMF is failling although no rattling is heard. The vibration can be felt when driving at highway speed as well, feels like wheels are unbalanced but as soon as the DSG i set to N or the foot is lifted the vibrations are gone. Anybody has had these symptoms?

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  5 років тому

      I have never really heard of those symptoms but I did have a vibration in mine. Just could feel a bit in the steering wheel not like brake rotors but just almost like a misfire. flywheel was just too loose. No cracks. I would start on the flywheel to rule it out.

    • @SalsamichaelA
      @SalsamichaelA 5 років тому

      Thanks. I plan to reinstall old drive axles which I replaced due to a loose sleeve. I they make no difference then off goes the gearbox, inspect maybe replace DMF and later I just put the new axles back in. Lets see what this uncovers...

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  5 років тому

      Yea probably if you are over 200km it would not hurt to replace the DMF. Mine lasted 200k miles so that is near 300km on my 2009 on my 06 the DMF went out at 100k miles which is around what 150km. Usually it makes a shuttering when you shut off the engine. FYI I do have an updated more comprehensive video on this channel for the DMF

    I'm not sure why people keep saying LUK is better than the one you buy from the VW dealer because the one from the VW dealer is made by LUK so there is no difference except the much higher dealer price. I also don't know why people are saying the DSG isn't reliable? I am thinking they dont have a VW with a DSG because mine has 170,000 miles and is still running perfect and I didn't even follow the 40,000 mi fluid changes, The fact is the standard transmission is less reliable because they have a LOT of clutch problems and many complaints about premature clutch failure that the warranty doesn't cover.

    • @johnb1658
      @johnb1658 9 років тому

      Safe biker I still can't see how you are saying the manual is more reliable than DSG. The dual mass flywheels go bad in either transmission and to update my last post I'm now at 191,000 problem free miles with my dsg. I have had over 25 cars and more than half had manuals, but even the best manual driver is never going to shift faster than the DSG auto. By the time you go from first to second I will be a car length ahead.

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  9 років тому

      s40volvoguy Let me clairfy on the DSG and Manual argument. The early pre 2005.5 automatic vw were trash. They would not last. The DSG is really good but very tight tolerance in the valve body. So it is important you replace trans fluid at 40k miles. The manual has a great option from LUK they have a solid mass flywheel replacement. One time replacement. I still am uneasy about the LUK replacement but at 90k miles still solid as a rock. So at almost 200k miles DSG is silent and shifts perfectly. I just wish they had a dipstick. Those crazy Germans...

  • @Mikefngarage

    I would only use the LUK. These are another VW flawed design. I have been working on vws for 30 years and they are a problematic car. Who could figure they need a 2 piece design for a flywheel. The LUK is suppose to have a heavier spring and sronger design but it is still a 2 piece so I am crossing my fingers.

  • @Mikefngarage
    @Mikefngarage  10 років тому

    that timing chain job is miserable. Skull and cross bones to the VW vr6. yuck. I would plan on replacing the engine with a rebuilt because often the gears get sucked into the oil pump and destroy everything, Man just look into a TDI changeout and scrap that engine!!!!

      It's only a no brainer if you know what you are doing, or have done it before. I wanted to see it done so I could decide if I should even tackle it. Either way, after many hours, I finally got the thing apart and back together with a new clutch, thanks in large part, to videos like yours.
