Thanks for the great video dude! My brother and I used this to remove the transmission from his 08 Passat just yesterday. There was one bolt up top toward the firewall that took forever to remove due to limited clearance. Couldn't get a socket on it even with wobble extensions. He finally was able to remove it slowly but surely. Thanks again.
I know exactly which one your talking about, they have a special socket for it but you can get it with a wrench
Bro i was looking under my car and saw these transmission openings and i went nuts i thought my transmission was cracked in 2 spots 😭💀 but i see it in yours so im glad it isnt cracked
I just did a CC with this trans a week or so ago. Changing it over to a 6MT. Great video!
Good upgrade!
15:28 - Was great to know to pry out the hexagonal axle bearing cup from the gearbox. By the time you see this you I have found an answer, but I am going to try pry hammer back in again (spline with circlip into the gearbox) - cannot push it in by hand - I greased spline, but there are not many places to hammer it in from under as is all rubber boot in the way!
This is the best r&r video I've ever watched. One thing though...There is no audio after 30 minutes in, can you do anything about that, I'd really like to hear everything that you say when reassembling.
Also, why did you r&r, did you put a new or rebuilt transmission in? My 06 Passat, FSI Turbo, has a leak that is coming from the torque converter area, I'm hoping I can just replace the seals.
chris parent I replaced the rear main seal, I wasn’t aware there was no Audio after 30 mins I’ll see what I can do
The crank doesn’t have a center bolt, how did you spin the engine. My crank has multiple bolts
Thanks for the video, great detail
This video is very helpful. I'm working on a upper oil pan. Is there a way to get the 2 bolts by the rear main without removing the transmission?
No unfortunately
@@carwerks101 I thought so thank you

Thanks for the clear explanations. Does anyone know if this would the same for a 07 rabbit with 2.5L? I have seen some remove the whole engine and transmission assembly, is this way less time consuming/easier?
I’ve done a million of them on the 2.5 in the car way easier to leave the engine in
@@carwerks101want to do my 2.5 trans but I don’t think it’s the 09G similar enough though yeah?
@@guywithaname1 it should be the same transmission
Sweet video! very helpful
Hey so what was wrong with your old transmission ?
You show removing only four lower bolts on the transmission and then the torque converter bolts. Are there any bolts at the top of the transmission bell housing that need to be removed?
Yesv
Nice video i wanna ask you please
I work on tiguan 09G aq250 i think same as this passat i wanna clone it but cant find tcu any idea mate?
Tcm is usually is part of the engine control unit, or in the fenders on a Vw
Very great video and detailed..
Planning on replacing the rear main seal on a 2010 Tiguan. This is supposed to be a 09M automatic transmission. All the info that I can find indicates that the 09G and 09M are the same transmission physically. (different internal components for different torque).Do you think this video for removal of a 09G transmission is applicable for removal of a 09M transmission? In this video you discuss reinstallation of the torque converter. Do you have any videos that actually show reinstallation of the torque converter on a 09G?… much thanks in advance for responding!
yeah they come out exactly the same
Quick question before I start this job.... Are those braces you have installed above the engine compartment? & Do I need them?
I think I see why now... supporting the weight of the engine when trans is disconnected.
I have a 2014 vw Jetta se 1.8t with an automatic transmission. Recently my transmission has been leaking right under where the torque converter sits. So I replace the torque converter seal and bought a used torque converter to see if it would fix the issue. However after 5 mins of running it while putting fluid in it begins to leak in the same spot as before . Are there any other seals I need to replace ? Or do you think I didn’t seat the torque converter seal correctly ? I need advice please
Its been awhile but did you figure out why it was still leaking?
Would you happen to know if these transmissions are any good for building power?
No
Enjoying your videos - you're a funny dude. On the subframe, I'm getting ready to do a RMS on a 2010 Tiguan 4Motion. Do you need to mark certain bolts for alignment before you drop the subframe? I noticed you zipping out bolts but you may have marked the eccentric bolt previously. Also, does the Haldex need to be drain before removing? thanks for any advice. Keep up the good work
Jim Juritsch you can mark the sub frame to try and get it back as best as possible but there the only thing, you will have to do an alignment most likely
@@carwerks101 Remember how you said to be careful topside near that molded overflow nipple in the upper radiator housing? Yeah, now I now. Anyways, thanks for the solid info. Did my RMS and your video helped alot!
At 24:18 is there a big gasket or seal that goes around the large portion of the outside? My 2014 mk6 1.8t automatic transmission is leaking from the bottom of where the torque converter is. I changed the torque converter seal and its still leaking. does this mean its the torque converter itself?? Is there any other seals that i should change besides the torque converter seal?
Hello, did you solve your problem? We had the same problem, there is a seal behind the TC we didn’t have any luck finding one, ours was “slipping” out, we tried watching the outside of it, too e grip, and pressing it back it, but to no avail. We r&r’d that tranny 3 times, then we put in a ntu tranny, no more leak.
do you know what the torque spec is for the FLEX PLATE bolts (the 12 point bolts) on the 09g/09M?... thanks....
30nm
Hey i did a Swap on a 2016 with a 1.4 tsi i left the tranny on and only pulled out the engine. And now my car wont drive i shift ito all gears and nothing the transmission only has 2 plug connections op front?? I have code 0731 and 0721 .. any hints
What transmission does it have?
With your transmission connected how do you spin your torque converter around when unbolting the bolts ?
I was turning it at the crank pulley bolt
@@carwerks101 is the cranky pulley bolt the inspection gap that shows the torque converter wheel??
@@anthonyvaladez7426 no, you can use those if you Want with a flathead, the crank bolt is on the end of the engine where the belt is
Quick question, I just pulled the trans on my wife's 2010 tiguan to replace the rear main, got it all back together and the trans isn't engaging. Do you think I lost fluid in the removal process or could it be something with the TC?
Stephen Wejrowski how much fluid did you lose? Is the linkage installed correctly? Did your transmission fully seat together before you tightened all the bolts?
@@carwerks101 I don't feel like a lot of fluid was lost but I already cleaned the mess up so I can't really say. As far as the transmission being fully seated, I don't think it was all the way in. I watched the video after doing the project. I know we had everything lined up but the engine wasn't quite level so we had the top bolts started then used an engine hoist to line everything up but I didn't make sure the bell house was completely seated or tight before putting all the bolts in. Did I toast it, or is there anything I can do to remedy it?
Stephen Wejrowski sounds like you damaged the pump in the transmission if you just drove the bolts in without making sure it was flush
@@carwerks101 ok, is that fixable or do I need to find a replacement?
Stephen Wejrowski needs a new pump so you need to pull trans apart
This won't work on 2006 VW Passat because the driver side engine mount is actually attached to the transmission. So you would need an engine hoist to support the weight of the engine or just pull the whole engine with transmission...
i have one attached in the video, you can also use a jack and a block of wood on the oil pan
@@carwerks101 yup a jack supporting the engine should work. Thanks 🙂
Nice video dude! Uhhh yeah I’ll take a coke 😂
Hi I am changing my transmission also in a 2009 passat a question the transmission you replaced is different code # or the same if it is different code did you the adaptation
Same
Do you really have to remove the subframe?
No, but if you want to wrestle it then that’s up to you
@@carwerks101 nope, don’t want to wrestle with it) makes total sense. Thanks for the video, it’s very helpful. The subframe bolts are single use right?
@@fastboatster yeah, you can re use them but most likely will have clinching or clunking from the subframe, I suggest a dead set kit regardless and you won’t have to worry about that anymore
3:19 hits head on transmission doesnt even make face youre tough man
I wish you was in Miami so I can pay you to do this nobody would touch my Volkswagen in Miami
U needed more light next time
