This is 55 years ago and this song still thrills me.
Me to. I’m 39, but I used to work at Denny’s with the OG juke.
Count me in.
I didn’t know it was over 50 years old
Branden Potter songs today are still good. It’s just has changed. Like from groove to hard rap and now to this.
Branden Potter They said that in the late 80s-early 90s.
I so wish our young singers today could learn to sing in harmony with multiple backup singers like these ladies. This is the way its supposed to sound like, I mean these ladies make today's singers look foolish and amateur. 70% of the music today would not have been good enough to play on the radio back then, musicians and composers were simply more sentimental and creative. Even their clapping and their "go ahead girl" is so incredibly cool. I just played this video like 20 times in a row.
Franklin NJ o
Franklin NJ Amen. I wish we could get back to this kind of music. We need to find a way to get the Funk Brothers and Wrecking Crew back into action.
o
When I say nobody I mean NOBODY could sing this song like Martha Reeves, not even Diana Ross (love her version, but still..) couldn’t come close to what Martha Reeves did on this song. She was singing her heart out on this song. Early ‘60s Motown was like the soundtrack of my life.
KEEP your ❤ in your carcus #love
Most beautiful
I LOVE THEM!!! Now this is MUSIC!!! & this is coming from a 22 year old in the year of 2021
same!! i’m 21 and i love this
You definitely rock. I'm 3x your age..this tune was spellbinding..we never sat still, but danced every time it played.
You definitely appreciate good music! so good to here a comment like that from someone so young! :)
I'm 22 in 22 and definitely enjoying this ❤️🔥
I love ❤️ this true music
Sadly, Martha and many other MOTOWN groups were ripped off by the record companies. But, damn, Martha sure could sing. What a powerful voice.
There wasn't hardly any "groups" it was mainly individuals supported by The Funk Brothers. The Funk Brothers are the sound of Motown. Unfortunately hardly anyone is aware of their contribution to popular music. Fucking geniuses. And you say Motown groups were ripped off. These poor dudes turned up for work in 1972 to see a sign saying "no work today". Motown had fucked off to LA. Over, just like that.
Live forever Motown!!!!
Martha Reeves
unfortunately they are in a far too long line up of people who were ripped off by the music industry in all genres of music...damn the bastards who make money off of the talent they don't possess and they don't give the righteous credit(financially and creatively)to the talents who deserve it
She was great I loved her songs !!! I'm a big Motown fan 👍🎵🎶💕😁😘
Yep, but in truth, they are what they are. No matter how much people may be ripped off by devil supporting selfish bastards, the beautiful are what they are, and the selfish bastards buried themselves deeper and deeper.
How can anyone not love Motown?
I Really Really LOVE Motown
Stubborn racists who don't cate how dumb they look?
Probably people who hate black music :/ which would be many during the 1960’s
Racists
Martha, Betty & Roz......all 3 of these ladies are still with us,
Just incredible isn't it, Chris? ☺😉😁
Wouldn't it be great to be able to travel back to the 60's for classic experiences like these!.. can't beat Motown Music :)
True! Stax music was good too anyway...
No blacks want to go back to the 60s.
I met the women on the far left while doing workat her home in Detroit a few months ago and I knew she was something big because she had all this memorabilia in a room and pics of the three of them with Marvin Gaye. It made her day that such a young person knew who she was. I didn't know until I saw all the pics but it's all the same. These guys were huge.
Lucky you. These black artists from Detroit were some of the very greatest social revolutionaries in the history of the USA. They changed our country and also the world- just by being themselves and telling the world it is to be a real authentic human being, and that deep down, were all the same. Growing up I was from the white suburbs of Detroit, but my soul was formed by the Detroit's black ghettos. And I think that is true of everyone from my generation. Amazing, profound music from the soul of humanity.
Great reply.
Great post and glad you were there to give her a lift. Their songs made so many people happy and provided life long memories. Bless all their hearts.
Wow! That's so neat! I would've asked for her autograph.
WOW!!!!! LUCKY YOU , These ladies amongst other black artists of there time sang there hearts out and told it like it was... No frills, outstanding vocalists, I'm white and would loved to have grown up in the ghettos of Detroit in the 6T's...fact
One of the finest pop songs ever recorded. Just so full of the joy of being alive.
Never have I heard this song summed up more perfectly.
soul music not pop
I definitely describe it as All the Way with LBJ, who was even from the heat wave state of Texas.
It's impossible to stand still with this song! 🙌🏽🕺🥳
Absolutely!!
Started dancing in my seat as soon as it came on!
Actually factually
"Very true! 😄 I tell you the truth, I haven't been able to get over this song or their vocal performance yet. I love it, and I listen to it like it's brand new every time! 🎶🎉"
One of my all time Motown favs. Martha really belts it out and there is so much energy in the song.
Yes, I definitely dub it as All the Way with LBJ. Heat Waves are certainly no stranger to Texas. When it was released, he was a Vice President who was leading affirmative action. Though it's supposed to be about heartbreak, I just feels too optimistic. Civil Rights style optimism.
These women can freakin' SING!! My word, they have powerful lungs!
Miami, MARTHA is the lead singer and she has the most powerful set of lungs of that trio. What a song she belted out!
@@freeguy77 nah. The background vocals contributed heavily to the essence of the song! Give Rosalind and Annette their just due!
The energy from these girls is absolutely electrifying!!!
I have to reply to your 4-year-old point! I have thought the same, and the #1 energetic song I heard from the early '60s, with only The Beatles' "She Loves You" and "Light My Fire" by The Doors (July 1967) having that same intense level of excitement and energy! Those three songs are tops in how they transmitted the desire for love in one's life, and the centerpiece of the entire.reason for Rock 'n' Roll! Another one, only slightly less exciting for me in hearing all the great Top 40 songs then was "Surf City" (June 1963) by Jan and Dean.
If this doesn't want to make you get up and boogie, nothing will!
Yes lord god bring us equality!!!!!!
Like a freight train barreling down the tracks!
Yes this music is very cool
These ladies have more class in their little finger than most singers nowadays. Brilliant!!
I'm hip man, it was a whole different time, much better.
We all know that Martha is worth 10,000 Lady Gagas
yes! they were too cute !!
I 100% agree its called self respect!
I've loved group for a long time! I absolutely love motown! I'm 74yold Dixie!
happy 81st Martha.. You go gurl...🔥🆘🔥🆘🔥
Beautiful song 🤍Hello from Scotland🏴How are you doing today? I hope it's been a great year so far?
My favorite Motown girl group. They don't make them like that any more.
Talent goes so short this times :-(
I agree... the Supremes eclipsed this girl group by far!
They sure don't SMDH
James Sterling that's for sure
The best of the "girl groups." Martha was and still is, beautiful.
Now this is what you call SANGIN'!
Lip sync you mean
Timeless, bursting with energy, powerful vocals, and what a song!
The perfect song for these extremely hot days, in the summer of 2023~Playing it loud
If you can sit still to this, then you have no soul. Ageless and priceless Motown classic.
well I'm sitting right now so guess I'm screwed
@@ghdhfgh6125 sitting. Pete said sitting STILL. I can feel the vibrations in my body moving all around. I am sitting, but not STILL!
Song filled with emotions for me. On the day my mother died we played this song. For as far she was able to, she moved on the rythm as always. Making this song very emotional and special for me. Dear mom, miss you much. Wish you where here. 05-07-2016
The beautiful experience you had with your mother will be remembered the rest of your life.
sjonhigh that’s so touching. How music moves our soul and lifts our spirit just extraordinary ❤️🇺🇸
God bless.
I am so very sorry for your loss hun. I do wish I could make it better. But from experience, I know better. Sigh.
That great Motown sound, still love it and I'm 70 now, brings back so many memories. It will never die. Unlike some music
Oh God I love Martha Reeves. She is so beautiful.
I love the Motown sound
Motown is original and pretty simply cool.
Motown Sound always reminded me of girls skipping rope on the South Bronc streets. And that is NOT a bad thing!
Motown had great music. I wish they would sing like that now .. I grew up in the 60s great times.
1962-63....riding in the big land yacht car with my DAD AND RADIO EXPLODING!!!
YEAH, YEAH, YEAH
Oh, this always got everybody up and out on the dance floor. People loved dancing to this. When the Vandellas turn sideways facing Martha, put their left hand on their hips and start pointing at Martha, "Go ahead girl. Ain't nothin' but love, girl..." I just love it. I grew up around a lot of older black women and that's the way they would scold you, one hand on their hip while they pointed their finger for emphasis. I always found it endearing.
precious♡
This song will never grow old. Makes you want to get up and dance even though it's a hundred degrees out there. Watching them dance and how nice, clean and respectable they look almost makes me cry because they represent an era that we will never see again.
very well said
Totally agree.
"it's a hundred degrees out there"--where (approximately) do you live that it's 100 degrees out?? Probably an exaggeration, but then again that's global warming/climate change for ya... 😐
Yes. It gives me such a notion. I want nothing more than to go back. In culture of the time. Morals and values. Class. Respect. Good clean fun. Now we see literally someone dressed like Satan while doin sexual acts on a naked body in front of children. Lord we are almost done here. He'll clean it up.
It's unbelievable the amount of life and spirit here.
Matthew Alexander Lemma on the stage, but not the crowd.
Matthew Alexander Lemma
Brits. They're excited on the inside.
Martha & Vandellas were my fav. fem. group of the 60's
*I always love how the song builds the momentum up 5 seconds before they say heatwave.*
Martha Reeves in the 1960's was a beauty -- such a doll !
Martha didn't need computer enhancements to make her voice sound in tune, like the singers of today. True God given talent that Martha made the most of. What a great song, performed by a wonderful talent.
+RB Brown You mean mainstream singers who are in it for the cash. There are actual artists doing it for the love of music.
+RB Brown singers from the 50's-1980's are better than the ones we here in present day
RB Brown plus a big part missing from talent today (as far as r&b is concerned) is the singing in the gospel choir where most black singers got not only their start but training as wel
She was a wonderful women and very talented... I loved her music with appreciation ❤️🎶🎵😁😘👍
That's what I was thinking too--that VOICE!
Miss this snapping your fingers music 🎶 🎵 I wasn't old enogh to remember the release. I know it fun with all the finger snapping happy-go-lucky time even when everthing seems all wrong..HEATWAVE 🔥 🔥
Beautiful song 🤍Hello from Scotland🏴How are you doing today? I hope it's been a great year so far?
These ladies were around when I was a teenager...LOVE them!!
Hello Claudia, How are you doing?
I have been covering this tune in shelters, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities for twenty years now. All of the audiences just love it, still.
I love this. It has that old school touch to it.. still sounds great in 2015 :)
I agree 100%.....this music/song is still kicking 52 years after it was released !!
For the record I saw Martha and the Vandellas for the 1st time 14 years ago they brought down the house......the place was "ROCKING",people in the aisles dancing it was the 60's all over again everyone had a great time, they signed autographs and I took a picture with Martha :)
Long live Old School !!!
Ake
Ozzie Williams This song will sound great forever!
This was in American Graffiti 2, the part with the copter over Nam. Very underrated good film.
+ Bruce Powell One my favorite movie openings!
I like the fact that the stage is tight with little room for movement; yet, they're joyfully making the best of it.
Great group. They never managed the mega success of The Supremes, but this shows their brilliance.
Supremes couldn't touch them. Martha and the Vandellas were the best!
Martha Reeves and the Vandellas the best of motown. If you're not up and moving to this check you're pulse....aloha
The 60's were the "Golden Age" of pop and r&b!!!
chad ewing and Gospel
Oh the beautiful and honest 60's. Full of fun, feeling and beautiful rhythm. It was so good, innocent and happy.
except for Viet Nam, JFK, RFK, Martin Luther King, racism and rioting. But at least there wasn't a deranged bunch of MAGA cult lunatics worshiping a narcissistic psychopath
I was born in 1972. I grew up with music like this. Love it. Nothing compares
The song reminds me of being at the beach with all my friends😁.
you grew up in the good times. So lucky!!!
I was a teen in this era and it was magical I'm 75 now and this music still has the power to transport me to the early 60,s
oh my gosh dear lordy now that is music!!!! sings like ringing a bell. straight to ma heart n soul. blessed we are by growing up with this true music oh how poor nowadays pop music is.
Simply one of the most exciting records ever made. My blood pressure rises every time I hear it. And I still can't believe a song that expresses a woman's feelings so well was written by three men.
I know! Such a beautiful song
They probably had women tell them how they felt. You know, women do that.
This video and the live youtube video of Nowhere To Run really display these ladies as the well oiled machine that they were. The songwriting
and instrumentation were just outstanding as well.
Ron DayVoo I love this song too! It's a classic for sure👍
The lead vocal and the piano. Wow!
True music without demeaning women, color religion. These are true artists. Love Motown... There are great artists today. It's all relative to the times. Motown never goes out of style !!
Motown...the artists were true...sang without cursing..it was real..you can dance or just listen...got my 3yr granddaughter grooving to it ..my kid grew up listening to Motown. She
Just read Martha has to raise money for her star on the walk of fame😢 she’s an icon and very much so deserves her star ⭐️
TODAY, THIS WHOLE SUMMER, ACROSS THE US. YES.
everybody's smiling, and what beautiful smiles!
That's because America had heart and soul at that time
John, But less than 4 months later, it had its guts ripped out brutally on a Dallas street.
The Vandellas here have about the cutest choreography I think I've ever seen. Miss the Motown Sound.
Berry and Smokey knew how to pick em. This is a great song/group. I won't even talk about how tight they look. Flawless.
All i see is my grandma dancing in her living room good old days gosh how much I miss those days
I was just born 3 hours ago and I like this song! Give it up for me y'all!
Bet it makes you long for "the good ol' days"
Go ahead girl yeah yeah! sing it ladies. This song and probably "My Girl" by the Temptations personifies the greatness of the Motown vibe perfectly.
Even though they weren't there long the writing/production team of Holland-Dozier-Holland left an incredible legacy of music in the 60's at Motown. This was obviously one of their very best recordings.
Shane Anthony good call, my top 2 Motown too :-)
+Shane Anthony You could probably throw "Back In My Arms Again" in that mix as well. The Funk Brothers really knew how to drive that beat!
+revin togo
They sure did. They were all fantastic musicians. James Jamerson is one of my all time favorite base players.
+Shane Anthony They were there long enough to change the world! Not too shabby at all..... and they persevere today!! 4 million hits...
Yeah.
I would never ever understand how anyone could dislike a video like this😷
Evil
primera vez que escucho esta cancion y la verdad que es un encanto. Tengo 21 años y pienso que los 60s es una de las mejores decadas. Saludos desde el Perú.
Hola
Out of Motown's three main girl groups during the early 1960's, "The Supremes" were sweet and sophisicated, "The Marvelettes" were playful and flirty but "The Vandellas" had sass and attitude.
It's clear from Martha Reeves soulful voice that she could throw it down. She puts the *heat* in "Heatwave" and delivered a terrfic lead vocal performance that just makes you want to sing along with her and dance!
woohooboy ii
Woohoo boy, Totally agree!! Heard this on the radio very late one night here in Australia and just to find out more!
Thank you for posting.
You know those songs that just make you happy within the first 10 seconds... This is one of them.
Can't beat Martha and the Vandella's. July 1963 was a great month in Manhattan as I was working in Harlem and this song was rockin' 135th St and Lenox Ave. Love all you Cats there! Yeah Baby!!
Love the drums! Funk Brothers--yeah yeah yeah--love it! Heat Wave gets me off the couch every time dancing! Summer of 1964 thank you Martha !
Hello Carol, How are you doing?
How can you not get pumped for everything when this plays. One of my favorites of all time!!
I went to a listening booth at the local record shop and this song took my head off. You ought to hear it on a hi fi in mono - it will blast you to the heavens and back. At 1:45 the girls just start wailing - so, so, good.
Hello Nancy, How are you doing?
I saw Martha and the Vandellas at Palisades Park NJ when I was 16. The greatest female group ever.
Ya, I'm old now but this sure brings back memories of the swinging 1960s! The shoe fit so we danced in it ... we danced our asses off to this music and created our own HEAT WAVE! IT WAS GLORIOUS!!! Thank you Martha and the Vandellas! 💞🤗💞
WOW ! now that's music !
And real music way better than today
Sensational! You Can't Help but to Love these Lovely Ladies and their Great Voices!
They were groovin' 🔥🔥🔥🎵❤🥰😍
Simple pure music...no mechanical enhancements... pure God given talent..pure simple soul! Which can't be matched today, no way!
Hello Barbara, How are you doing?
Motown. Never before. Never again. I was born in 1967 but those who were teenagers and young people in this era lay witness to the greatest music that came out of the 20th century.
My parents would argue with you about the greatest music....man, how can you beat Glenn Miller, Dean, Bing, and company.....
'65 I was a sophomore in college. Notice in this vid the audience. This was when cross over was beginning. Race music became American music in the '60's.
With all the mess going on today, seems like maybe music could be the ultimate salvation of our troubles. Come together people.
I agree. That's why music has been dubbed the "universal language."
+Never Born, Never Die This was shot in the UK where soul was fully accepted first by white audiences ';-) Not my words, the words of the artists, most notably Otis Redding. They came across relatively unknown, were put on a pedestal and went back to the USA as STARS. Which was their due.
+Never Born, Never Die Music really did bring us together; kids like me just didn't care --we loved the music, & the wonderful people who made it & sang it! Late summer of '63, I was just starting my senior year in HS, Denver, Colorado! Wolfsky9
+Never Born, Never Die Only in this video the audience is British. This was recorded on Ready Steady Go, notice the RSG at the start. Dave Godin brought over several Motown acts to tour Britain. White kids in Britain had no hang ups about black singers in the 60s, they worshipped them.
Ah, the 1960s! The of liberalism and free spirit!
They brought the house down! Such a classic.
Beautiful song 🤍Hello from Scotland🏴How are you doing today? I hope it's been a great year so far?
This song 🎵 has been stuck in my head every since I left the Motown Museum
As a young Dutch girl ,I was so glad to have the opertunety to listen to all of this great music because my sister and family lived iin the US.
Why didnt you all live together, Margo?
Definitely my favorite Motown song. Found this while writing a report on Motown music for my English class. I listened to so many songs, but this one's definitely my favorite.
So up lifting. My favourite 60’s track❤❤❤

Beautiful song 🤍Hello from Scotland🏴How are you doing today? I hope it's been a great year so far?
These ladies were cool as hell back in the day! believe it!
❤MY FAVORITE SINGER. SENSATIONAL AWESOME BEAUTIFUL HEAVENLY AMAZING WONDERFUL 👍!
Epic intro- one of the greatest ever
"Whenever I'm with him" Who knew four words could be so iconic?
Some songs are just timeless and will always hit, this is one of the ones…..
My brother, Garry Shider, myself and our neighbor, Clifton Cooper put our money together to buy Heat Wave back in 1963.
It cost 69 cents. We bought it in Two Guys from Harrison. What memories!
She has such a powerful voice. You can really hear the passion and emotion.
Martha and the Vandellas own two of my all-time favorite songs! "Heat Wave" and "Nowhere To Run" which is also on a cool "live" video (they're going through a Mustang assembly plant. It's great!)
Great song. It's good in Grumpy Old Men too :)
Lady Suzette a
Martha and the Vandellas were one of my favorite girl group All the Motown Peepz were. I met her, her brother and mine were in the Navy together! She's Still Looking and doing great! Love you Girls AkaNEECEE
One of my favorite songs of all time. May God bless Martha and The Vandellas.
Absolutely brilliant grew up dancing to this music in the disco great times
Another Great Classic from one of the Greatest Female Singing Groups of All Time!
Love this song !!!!!!!! Natural talent nowadays is rare.
I love to blast this in my car and sing at the top of my lungs!!! Such a Great Song with so much Feel!!! They don't make em like this anymore! 2019!!!
The energy, the little dance steps and hip shakes, the strong lead vocals and awesome
choir together with all that sensuality makes this song a damn masterpiece.
It blows my mind today in 2020, can't imagine what it did back then.
Martha Reeves slim figure whaling "yeah yeah, yeah" was copied by many artists.
Some of the greatest American pop music ever! Motown ruled!
Motown is the greatest music
I love. It's brings back memories from New York.
The production for this song crazy🔥🔥..and their vocals on another level.
Madly in love with Martha Reeves!😘
Can not get enough of this kind of music!
That's what my parents told us about Dean Martin, Perry Como, and Bing.
One of my favorites of all time from these lovely ladies. I was blessed to hear all those Motown songs growing up when Motown was in its prime.
This how it feels when your in love.😊
please please please.... can I go back when this song came out.... a better time for me back then... I was a kid and this was a great song, still is.
