    I bought this from a record store when it had just been released. I walked up there and listened to this record in a listening booth and the sound took my head off. That was early 1963 and I think I was still in grade school and I was 13 or 14. Good time to be a young person.

    Martha Reeves was my favorite girl group lead singer back in the 60's. Both vocally and visually! The three of them were a gift, as good as any of the titans of Motown!

    Iconic UK TV Show "Ready Steady Go!" "The Weekend Starts Here" every Friday tea time. The show ran from 1963 to 1966. It featured many US R&B acts including Motown stars, many making there UK TV debut on the show. This was the only way UK kids got to see and hear these amazing US stars until the arrival of Pirate Radio Station, Radio Caroline, at Easter 1964. These records were never played on the BBC!

      I don't believe they are shy. They don't look shy standing in front of dozens of teenagers to perform. Also Betty according to Martha was a firecracker. Martha eventually became scared of Betty as Betty had a temper and did not let "shyness" get in her way. Her and Betty almost came to physical violence. At that point, Martha had Betty removed from the group, but Betty continued to stalk Martha even after she was out of the group. After Betty was fired, she continued to stalk Martha at performances, heckling her from the audience.

    • @benjaminadler6149
      @benjaminadler6149 2 роки тому +4

      I never heard that (stalking), the feud was over a fella, Martha was always difficult and none of them were particularly close,. That said, Martha and Betty are great and accomplished ladies, I have high respect for both and what they had to endure.

  • @jackanthony976
    @jackanthony976 9 років тому +9

    It was nice to hear Martha being interviewed as one rarely got to hear Martha Reeves talk during that peak period of their career. It would have been nice if Martha had also let Betty and Rosalind speak as well as I don't think I have heard either one of them speak. The host seemed disappointed that Martha had not invited Rosalind and Betty to be interviewed as well.

      This production is a masterpiece. There’s no gimmicks no auto tune it’s just straight great blasting vocals with a tremendous beat and lyrics that’ll knock the top of the house off. Plus they’re all just great looking and powerful.

      @@ronniebishop2496 , I don't see nothing wrong with you being a white man. Having a crush on a black girl or woman! I've got many white people who married on both my mom and dad's sides of the family! I'm black, but have been crazy about countless white girls! Also Asians, Latins, mixed race, etc. Just be happy whoever she is! As long as someone is happy, I'm happy for them!

    I wonder where the instrument sound is coming from. You can see Martha and the Vandellas singing here but where are the instrument sounds coming from?

    Pisses me off that the BBC were so stuck in the 40s back then but thanks to Brits desperate for change and unconcerned about skin colour, Motown quickly blew the roof off over here and now we can cherish these precious clips. I feel so sorry for kids today but at least they have access to treasure in a way we never did. I just hope they bother to dig.
