The song is hard to understand outside the context of the album. There are three different voices in the song. The first part of the song is the voice of an outsider trying to reach a guy that built a wall around himself. The second part (starting with "but it was only a fantasy") is a narrator informing us that there is, in fact, no one trying to reach out for the lonely guy behind his wall, he is fantasizing that someone out there cares for him. The last voice is the guy's own voice. He is shouting, trying to make himself heard across the wall, and addressing the indifferent bystanders all around him. Telling them that they should care, because without one another we are doomed.

This song freaks me out every time I hear it, so intense, so emotional, so soul wrenching, yet strangely beautiful in its composition, gives you goosebumps just listening to it, you just got to feel it!
PessottiHimself I'm in complete agreement, although if he's gonna listen to a single from this album, "Time" is a good choice, though I'd recommend "Speak To Me/Breathe" or "Money" for breaking his DSOTM cherry. Certainly better than listening to, say, "Great Gig In The Sky" as a first listen. If he were to listen to the whole album, first to last, without interruption, my biggest worry is that he'd get lost in the music, and we'd never see him again.
Pink Floyd described feelings we've all felt before and put inside us. They put them into sounds and lyriks. And feelings are without time. That's the Magic...💫
@@goldnugget49 my job I have a lot of down time so I get really bored sometimes so really sometimes he's kind of saving my day and usually I can find a good discussion after a video
Im only a month late but I recommend king crimson if you want a band equally ahead of their time and of a similar but still unique style. Imagine if pink floyd dropped into improv more than they already do by 3x or so. King crimson actually writes in large improv sections so every performance is different. Love floyd and king crimson.

The music and lyrics are still fresh and very relevant. It does this old hippie chicks heart proud to see you enjoy the songs and more importantly, you get it!! ❤️🤗✌️🎨🖌
This is the first track on Side 3 of the double album. The previous song is called "Goodbye Cruel World" and, in concert, is where the last brick is put into The Wall, and shuts Pink off from the audience, to be alone with his isolation and increasing insanity. "Hey You" is performed behind The Wall, the audience can't see the band, and I've always thought that this was the sound of Pink's breaking heart. Roger Waters did a 30th anniversary tour where he performed The Wall in its entirety, the way the band did it in 1980, but with updated technology. The tour lasted for 3 or 4 years, and went around the world a couple times, to sell-out shows. There's a video called "Roger Waters: The Wall" that you should try to find and watch, if you can. It's really great to see the album performed as it was meant to be.
99% of the live stuff is a broken band. They are so rarely all together on stage any more. My opinion is they sound better together, instead of some no name filling the role of either David Gilmour or Roger Waters depending on who's "Pink Floyd" you are seeing. When you do the album cut you get all the og members, minus Uncle Sid of course. Also, i love the reaction, but this audio quality is unacceptable.
I'm not so sure he should do this. If he does, he might get lost in the music, and we'll never see him again. . .except over on the Dark Side of the Moon.
I’m 54 & my dad loved Pink Floyd so I was raised on this music along with many other great artists & my love of music came from him. I’m from Detroit so I was very fortunate to hear all kinds of music like Al Green. My grandma lived close to Motown so we got to hear everything!!! Back in 85-86 I got concert tickets to see Pink Floyd & took my dad. That by far was my favorite memory of all time. Years later I was talking to my mom & asked her about that time (they divorced in 70) & she told me about seeing Floyd live 3x’s and how she freaked out when they crashed a plane & had pigs flying through the air she said it was great. Music has touched my soul & saved my life!
I’m telling you, Preston! If you liked Welcome to The Machine, you gotta listen to Pink Floyd - Dogs. It will be your new favorite. It’s got those synthesizers you liked from Welcome to The Machine, but it’s also got those Gilmore guitars that fill your heart.

Having been born in 1951 , I am just an old white guy who is mostly used up and pretty much running on empty . It lifts my soul to see a young black guy enjoying and immersing himself in music that I have loved for so many years. To me, there are two kinds of music , that which you listen to while doing your house work and that in which you are totally engaged while listening. Pink Floyd is the totally engaged type of music. My Pink Floyd listening kit consists of a comfortable chair , an ice cold Dr. Pepper , and a box of tissues. I can't stand tears in my soda , makes it too salty. "Hey , you" ! You will hopefully have a long life in which you will have much time to look into the past . Keep up the good work on your channel !
It is funny how haunting this song is. Even after hearing it literally thousands of times, it still holds the same weight. Try anything from the Animals album next. Dogs or Pigs are especially good. Also Shine on you Crazy Diamond (All parts). That's about 25 mins right there.
Walking throughout the rooms of a rented house I heard the radio and hey you was in the tune, I stopped to listen who they were and since that day 1987 I been hooked to every addicted piece of art that Pink Floyd has created! My soul was touched that day and the meaning of life had an encounter with time and I realized that Pink Floyd is timeless to beyond eternity!
I'm still amazed how professional these all sound for it's time more than 30 - 40 years ago. And yes if the song makes your hair stand up or you get the chills it's got what it takes to make it a great song. This song does exactly that from the lyrics to the scream and wail of Gilmour's guitar.
Honestly man, if you dig Floyd this much you REALLY should listen to the entire "The Wall" album. The way they structured the whole album it was intended to be listened to fully and they bridged one song into another so amazingly, just turn it on, sit back and enjoy the ride.
Honestly you can say that about all the albums from Dark Side to The Wall. Although there are natural breaks since these were originally on vinyl, then again, if you put all of the Wall in a Playlist, it still flows seamlessly even though this song is the start of disc 2 on cd.

Listen to the whole album. "The Wall" tells a story from beginning to end so this song, which is near the middle, will make a whole lot more sense. Every song on the album is as good as this one, it's a true masterpiece 👍
Preston you are my boy.I was you 20 years ago, listening to nothing but hip-hop and slowly discovering real music. Me and my boy used to just ride in the car and discover new music, way before youtube. Keep up the great woek.
Every single person I introduced Pink Floyd to started loving their music even though they were, for instance, plain hiphop-heads or just tone deaf in general. That's how you can tell it's good fucking music. Pink Floyd are like a genre of their own.
This song is pushing 45 yrs old ( if not alder ). And still amazes people today. You're absolutely right when you said that Pink Floyd was ahead of their time.
YAY! I have been waiting for this one!!!! GREAT REACTION BRO! Love this song! Love Pink Floyd! Love Your Channel! Time for Pink Floyd Binge! Suggesting you start with Album "Dark Side of The Moon". It is an experience and story and "The Wall" tells a story too. So happy you did this song!!! You can replay Floyd over and over. GREAT reaction!!!✌🏼💙💖💚🎶🎸👍🏻🥁🎹🎶
I play Pink Floyd over and over because they spoiled me. They are the cream of the crop in modern music _all genre's. They are timeless, ina a class of their own. They wouldn't blend in, they would stand out...but I know what you mean. ;)
The best song ever recorded. From the cowbell to the run of the piano keys...just excellent choice in sound or tempo. The lyrics are also timeless. Society will always have a Mary Whitehouse dictating thier morals upon society
Your reaction to the second section of vocals was like how I felt, Gilmour gives the lyrics a pleading tone, and then Waters comes In with a higher, more desperate cry of need sound in the lyrics! Jyst pure class.
You understand the depth of Floyd's music... and that puts you in a class far above most... Your reactions in the videos and the facial expressions say it all... Respect!
Oooosh, you gotta be fully invested and committed to the band for that, otherwise you just won't "get it" and think "wtf is that", i've seen people listen to a few floyd tracks, go straight into that one and have a negative reaction and it pisses me off very much a lot because of how stunning it is 😂
I disagree. The Great Gig in the Sky was the first song of Pink Floyd, that I ever heard, and it bought me :D. That vocalise is priceless, I tell you! :D
ugh I definitely agree the song is better in context, and would rather a full Dark Side of the Moon listen. But he’s listened to enough Floyd at this point that I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t be thrown and he seems to really appreciate their style. I think he’d dig it.
King KTF , i really enjoy watching you react to Pink Floyd , being a 57 year old who has been listening to them since i was around twelve , Great videos man !!!!!!
One of my favorite Floyd songs. Takes me back to high school in the 80's riding around the back country roads with a few friends. Now THOSE were three good days!
First, I want to say Thanks for listening to the whole song more and more reactors are skipping through them and ruining the song. I also love that you play back parts that you like they're always great parts. Thanks for the reation bro One of my favorite songs from Pink Floyd! "Have a cigar" is my second favorite..it's there view of the money hungry music industry. Keep up the great work and Thank you for staying real!
Dude your intro kicks ass. Great job. Pink Floyd made their own time bro. One of the greatest most consistent groups ever. Their catalog of whoop ass is huge!
"Echoes." As a longtime Pink Floyd fan, I'm not sure that any other song of theirs delves into the deep, and it's a beautifully written masterpiece. It's a journey in and of itself.
Pink Floyd exist outside of time and space. Their sound is so rich and complex. The lyrics touch your soul. They were ahead of their time. Im devastated not to have seen them live . Dave Gilmour is a legend and Roger Waters song writing skill... No words
I'm almost 50 years old. I am a white man, half Irish, half German. That doesn't matter. I am progressive, and so is my 87 year old father who grew up during the Depression in Boston, one of six siblings. I am simply impressed that you take your time to explore music, like I would with classical, or funk, or new age, or hip hop, or grunge. It's all out there for the taking. My dad still wonders how there's so much. Thank you for exploring!
Not just amazing music but lyrics that hit your soul...they do still play Pink Floyd on the radio...I'm just so happy younger generations are finding them and listening
If you like this Pres, you’re probably going to love Us and Them off DSOTM (my favorite song by them). Anything off the Animals album though is a can’t miss. My favorite album by Floyd and imo Gilmour’s best work on guitar.
Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon album is perfectly in sync with the movie The Wizard Of Oz. Start the album exactly at the end of the third MGM lion roar. Mute the move, turn the the volume up on the album. It’s amazing. Did it twice & it’s fascinating. Recommend lighting up a joint to make the experience better. The unofficial name for the experience is called Dark Side of the Rainbow
I thought you were supposed to press play on DSOTM when the movie goes from b&w to color? I don't remember how we did it but it worked and was really cool. Then we did more experiments with just random movies and albums and they almost all worked. The lengths the human mind will go to, to make patterns and sense of what we perceive, is phenomenally awesome!
Loving your reactions to Pink Floyd. I have been listening to them for over 30 years and I must say, they really get better with time. I see your appreciation for the details in these songs and the pure genius of Pink Floyd. Keep listening over and over again and you will hear things you have never heard before in the song. I would like to see you do a reaction to "Mother" which is on "The Wall" album. Preciate ya Bruh!!
Love your reactions. You're very likeable and no matter if you like it or not, you respect the music. That is important. If you really like the music, then we feel your joy.
Pink floyds 'Meddle' album is the first I ever heard at the age of 13. 'One of these days' freaked me out, revolutionary for it's time, and never gets old. 'Echos' took up the entirety of side 2 of the album. Awesome! Watching your reaction to these classics moves me to tears, like listening to them with new ears. Hey You! That rhymed! :)
More than "ahead of their time", they're proving to be timeless- they'll still be as relevant thirty, forty years from now.
Definitely! The lyrics were about life
Exactly! Their songs bring out pure human emotions that everyone can relate to at some point in their lives and keep doing so as long as we exist.
Not for years for eternity!

I love your chanel. It's so weird hearing these songs that were on the radio when I was a teenager. you can't turn on a radio and hear this now. The songs are long and it takes time to take it all in. each song is an experience. Enjoy your reactions a lot. I am binge watching.
Listen to the whole album. "The Wall" tells a story from beginning to end so this song, which is near the middle, will make a whole lot more sense. Every song on the album is as good as this one, it's a true masterpiece 👍
Absolutely! Took the words out of my mouth.
100% agree
❤
Probably the best album ever made.
Its a concept album!
I first heard this song on the radio maybe about 8 years ago. And wow! I was blown away! Floyd is awesome!
Thank you for this channel...
They wouldn't blend in, they would stand out...but I know what you mean. ;)

I can listen to this song over and over again and for some reason i never get tired of it thats how powerful pink floyd is damn!!!
"PIGS" by Pink Floyd
U can thank me later 😁✌
The best song ever recorded. From the cowbell to the run of the piano keys...just excellent choice in sound or tempo.
The lyrics are also timeless. Society will always have a Mary Whitehouse dictating thier morals upon society
Your reaction to the second section of vocals was like how I felt, Gilmour gives the lyrics a pleading tone, and then Waters comes In with a higher, more desperate cry of need sound in the lyrics! Jyst pure class.
Great reaction. This is one of my favorites by pink floyd. Also comfortably numb
You understand the depth of Floyd's music... and that puts you in a class far above most... Your reactions in the videos and the facial expressions say it all... Respect!
Time is one of my favorites by Pink Floyd & Have A Cigar
Love the way you listen to music! Love watching someone listening to Pink Floyd for the first time.
Pink Floyd - The Great Gig in the Sky
Oooosh, you gotta be fully invested and committed to the band for that, otherwise you just won't "get it" and think "wtf is that", i've seen people listen to a few floyd tracks, go straight into that one and have a negative reaction and it pisses me off very much a lot because of how stunning it is 😂
ugh that’s very true out of context it might seem random or odd
I disagree. The Great Gig in the Sky was the first song of Pink Floyd, that I ever heard, and it bought me :D. That vocalise is priceless, I tell you! :D
Wyhylili ya I agree with that and I love the song but I’m just saying for some people they might not like it if they don’t listen to Floyd
ugh I definitely agree the song is better in context, and would rather a full Dark Side of the Moon listen. But he’s listened to enough Floyd at this point that I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t be thrown and he seems to really appreciate their style. I think he’d dig it.
King KTF
, i really enjoy watching you react to Pink Floyd , being a 57 year old who has been listening to them since i was around twelve , Great videos man !!!!!!
Preston you're almost ready to 'Shine on you crazy diamond". Try "Have a cigar", lots of keyboard and riffs.
Agree, Have a cigar!
Yes and yes!
Shine On....is the best song made by humans.
I guarantee you the main keyboard riff in Have a Cigar kicking in for the first time will earn an immediate "Hold on bruh!"
@@benjaminmarlatt6111 Oh you know it!
40+years I've been a floyd fan I've heard the Wall thousands of times. Wish I could have this reaction again.....sometimes I still do.👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🤯🤯🤯
One of my favorite Pink Floyd songs. It's between Hey You and Wish You Were Here
My top fave 3 Pink Floyd songs are
1: Comfortably Numb
2: Hey You
3: Wish You Were Here
I am enjoying watching you find "new" music. As you can see I love Pink Floyd. Keep on sharing the love young man.
Led Zeppelin - Stairway to heaven
Automatic thumbs up for doing Pink Floyd.
"Echoes." As a longtime Pink Floyd fan, I'm not sure that any other song of theirs delves into the deep, and it's a beautifully written masterpiece. It's a journey in and of itself.
Pink Floyd is not just a band...
Pink Floyd is an Experience.
Man what makes your videos so good is your genuine roller coaster of emotions that Floyd invokes......awesome
I'm so happy watching you enjoying it, thank you
Pink Floyd exist outside of time and space. Their sound is so rich and complex. The lyrics touch your soul. They were ahead of their time. Im devastated not to have seen them live . Dave Gilmour is a legend and Roger Waters song writing skill... No words
There's so many good suggestions in the comments section. Dig deeper into pink floyd man you're gonna love it.
And with a smoke.
This song gives chills every time!
You must do "US AND THEM"!!
Hypnotic music! When you come home from a crazy, stressful day at work? Pour yourself a glass and play this!
I Love you Appreciating these Classics Bro .... Just Soul Touching Music ... Thank You
Pink Floyd- Pigs Three Different Ones :) also watch their movie The Wall if you haven’t already
I think he should listen to the whole album before he watches the movie.
best Pink Floyd song ever!!!!
Yes!
Pigs three different ones is a fantastic song though it's best enjoyed IMO by having a working knowledge of Mary Whitehouse ;)
The wall album And movie is maybe ma favourite music of all time, even though I love hip hip hop, pink floyd is still the greatest band ever.
"Together we stand, divided we fall" to humanity.
Good reaction my friend, greetings From Argentina!
Love to hear you just now experience something most of us have been listening to for years. Welcome to the club!
React to “Have a Cigar” by Pink Floyd
Loving your reactions to Pink Floyd. I have been listening to them for over 30 years and I must say, they really get better with time. I see your appreciation for the details in these songs and the pure genius of Pink Floyd. Keep listening over and over again and you will hear things you have never heard before in the song. I would like to see you do a reaction to "Mother" which is on "The Wall" album. Preciate ya Bruh!!
My favorite Pink Floyd song, and The Wall is my favorite album.
Andi Randolph and one of my favorite movies.
@@jessesimmons9238 same
Their music is ethereal. It's almost like having an out of body experience.
The timing of the lyrics in the lyric video is awful
Some were just flat out wrong too. I dont understand why people make lyric vids without knowing the damn words.
@@belladonna8425 because they are gimps
Who needs the lyrics written on the screen anyway?
Well it’s better than being too late. It’s so you know what’s to come when you’re singing/learning it... but yes incorrect wording is irritating.
Love your reactions. You're very likeable and no matter if you like it or not, you respect the music. That is important. If you really like the music, then we feel your joy.
Damn son where’d you find this?
Watching you react to Pink Floyd puts a smile on my face bro!
Pink Floyd “Not Now John”. Excellent!
"Don't know what it is, but it fits on here like zzzzzssssttt!". That's how I feel now trying to work new apps on my phone. 🤔
Pink Floyd ..TIME...and SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND..YOU WILL LOVE THESE TWO!!!
You gotta hear Pink Floyd's song Fearless. The guitar is awesome!
Dude you have to check out "Mother" off The Wall album.
Glad you love it! I think they would "blow away" rather than "blend" with music on the radio today, but that's just me.
