@tecpaocelotl no, if anyone actually follows the season, they would have known it was a 2 horse race and that Emma had BAFTA behind her, where Lily didn't even get nominated.
Lily should have submitted in Supporting like she was originally going to do. She wasn't the lead of the film. Her screentime shows that.

One of the most deserved wins in this category, ever. Lily was great, but sometimes another nominee is just out of this world. In this case, it was Emma Stone. Rooting for Lily Gladstone to have another shot in the future.

Well put. Everyone has their favorites, but at the end of the day, it is particularly satisfying when the performance that "hits it out of the park," no matter how unconventional, actually wins. Happy for Emma, but really happy that Academy voters honored her incredible portrayal of Bella Baxter.

@jedijones- I love it whenever an unconventional and not particularly a dramatic, “Oscar-bait” role wins or gets nominated for an Oscar! I loved Michelle Yeoh’s win last year and I’m very happy for Emma’s win, this year! I would’ve seriously groaned if another overly dramatic, biopic role wins again (Annette Bening in “Niad” or Carey Mulligan in “Maestro”)

@leserrors7669- Don’t get me wrong, if the dramatic and/or biopic role was the best if the year, then it’s totally deserving to win, like Cillian Murphy in “Oppenheimer”. I’m just saying, movie roles from genre films often gets overlooked at awards shows, in favor for the more “prestigious” dramatic performances, and it gets pretty stale overtime to see the same type of roles win every single year. So it’s a pleasant surprise to a few “genre” type roles get nominated or win. (Natalie Portman for “Black Swan”, Robert Downey Jr. for “Tropic Thunder”, Daniel Kaluuya for “Get Out”, Maria Bakalova for “Borat”, and Michelle Yeoh” for “Everything, Everywhere, All At Once”.
