Peter Piper’s face when Mikey was closing the hatch… Priceless (32:09).
Peter is absolutely not ready for this work !!! Today you had to tell him to turn the disconnect , yesterday he puts the blower assembly in wrong still doesn't know how to loosen a screw. The kid has a long long long way to go.
Another thing i believe that the time spent trying to teach him ADDS time on the customers bill, i would not have you come to my house for service.
I love that you 'found the switch' !
I think Peter is DEFINITELY cut out for this, but I also think the training wheels need to stay on for a little bit longer, but he WILL get there,I have every confidence in Peter, he's the Daniel of the future I think.😉
100% agree
😂
Naw guys he’s good to go, push him
@@TheMrBrandonlewis As a HV electrician with 30yrs experience,I have had many apprentices, he's NOT ready & pushing him is not the answer,if Mike were to send him out now, he's going to be on the phone to him so much, that he might as well be with him, give it another 6months & then re-evaluate.
@@danielelise7348I agree...this kid was not a mechanical kid coming into this trade. Usually you get kids into fixing cars or maybe a kid who learned how shitty roofing is to do. Seems like this kids parents asked Mike to employ their kid bcse it's that or enlist.
This was an awesome video Mike... Seeing the crap that gets installed by unscupulous " contractors " is criminal .
When I first started, I was the same way, I got nervous and wasn’t at my best when around certain people. But now I’m one of the best so I think he will be fine
Well one things for sure, Peter is definitely worth his pay on this call. If he hadn't been there Mikey could have been posting his next video from a hospital room. Nice catch Peter. I also loved the look you gave the camera right after saving Mikey.😉
😂
Yes he does need a lithke but more training.
However you learn the most when on your own
Thanks for the knowledge over the years.
All the best to you all

May God Bless.

The duct coming out the top of the supply is a bypass damper which connects the supply to the return which is required in zoning so the system gets the proper amount of return air
yep and it could be sticking/stuck open by passing too much or maybe the zone damper/s failing and partial opening or not at all. maybe house keeper shut too many registers.
one zone calling and lack of airflow is never good. often you're better putting the bypass back into another zone, especially if the zones are different sized or one has higher heat load and requires more air flow. or do two bypasses, set at different static pressures. dump one to largest zone first, then have second bypass plenum to return at higher static pressure.
Peter is not ready yet
i agree
He’s been with you long enough!! Time to start making some real money 💰!!
You gotta test the compressor windings using flux capacitance voltage pipe stretcher setting on the meter
😂
Happy New Year Mike To You And Your Family.
Definitely not ready yet.
Get couple pieces of 3/4" plywood like 26x14 to create atliest temporary service platform.... makes life easier in atic
I feel your pain brother it’s a daily occurrence in FL lots of hacks I now know I’m not the only person running into this kind of crap work
Was at two customers houses today and they both had dogs (most of mine do, and usually a cat as well) was fun, the second customer, thirst time there, first was to discover a clapped out central vac unit, the second to install the new one I ordered and today was fixing the leak I discovered with the new unit on the last visit. While me and my good friend/associate were doing wall surgery on the house, the puppy kept brining us his ball! Both the puppy and older dog were chocolate labs there. This was a complicated repair too, was proud of myself that I both located and then cut open the walls in the right place. I really should start at least taking pictures of my work, for my records if nothing else.
MIKEY PIPES ... WHO LOVES YA BABY...keep on truckin bro

Kneepads are made for guys that do tile work. They’re the best they have a hard cover on them. Those ones you want.
Not ready.. puts blower motor backwards....etc
And Peter definitely earning his keep with that ladder miss-step!
So much hackery in Arizona
Definitely needs the ducts replaced with a new variable speed unit. People paying low prices for installs, this is what you get sometimes. Love the videos
Mike,
When I got my Gerber, I threw my Leatherman in junk draw of my tool chest.
Yep they happen to me too I get cocky sometimes. I need to stay in my lane
so close to 150,000 LETS GO!
Looking forward:)
Those disconnect do suck I usually put some of the Eletric grease on those to help slide in and out easier prevent it from getting stuck
Gotta label marker on those disconnects lol drives me nuts I carry my label marker everywhere haha

Hhahahhaaa ARM CHAIR HVAC TECHS!!! I love it, its Friday time for a cold beer and a shot of something... good stuff Mike!!!
I just spit out my beer about the basement hacks. Omfg lmao 😂😅😂
what a waste!
Awesome content. When you coming to Palm Beach Gardens?
Yesterday was a tad painful to watch. It’s interesting…sometimes Peter can hit the ball out of the park, yet other days he seems to struggle with just basics like righty tighty. He attempted to reinstall the blower assembly backwards, struggled with the blower wheel, and bolt. Sometimes he seems out of it. It’s hard to explain. As a trainer for decades, if my trainee wasn’t getting it by now, he just may not be in the right profession. I’d keep working with him but the end result may be he stays on only as a helper…I hope he proves me wrong. I’m pulling for him daily as I want him to succeed 👍👍
Anyway, Happy New Year Mikey!
I grew up a mile away from the Marriott. Since I moved away, I stayed there once and it was one of the worst Marriotts I've been in.

You know what's funny my boss calls me a hoarder because I have been known to strip certain things off of Old equipment you know kind of like that lock down screw LOL 👍🛠️😁
No armor flex on that pipe
But a good tech though!
Don the man haha I like those Jared American made caps
Haha, Don is the man indeed! Those Jared American made caps are the perfect way to show off your style and support local businesses at the same time.
those disconnects are mounted in violation to NEC....
Peter got your back for sure. But, If there was ever a reason for two sided a frame ladders I would have to say that is it.
Peter reminds me of Butters from south park.
😂
Hi Mike.. Could ask you where I can go to learn about the parts of home residential A/C please.. Thanks
What do you think of powered anode rods? Thank you
Demon Mikey pops up at 28:05 looool, funtime goofing around was over, reality check time.
This guy is the biggest ass hole on UA-cam. He can't even pronounce the name of Danfoss. Stay clear of any advice he gives. He's just a salesman.
Peter needs to have more hands on with replacing stuff on a furnace/boiler and air conditioner. thats what training room are there for. when i first started my superviser had me take everything out and put back in. i mean everything. heat exchanger ventor motor ignitor burners and put it back on and test it amps co burners and static pressures. blower motors can be tricky we experience techs makes it easy but it isnt. give peter some time. he is built for it but i agree he needs his trainin wheels on it still...
LAY THAT PIPE MIKEY!!!!! Make sure you spit on it first before you send it!!!!
Alot of " service" techs and probably a few owner operators know nothing about the air side of hvac, meaning the design, fabrication, and proper installation of ductwork. Thats why the two are kinda separated as far as trades go, atleast in the commercial/industrial side. They are each a whole different set of skills to learn. Not saying one can't master both but in general duct guys don't know too much on the service side and trouble shooting, as service techs generally can't size and install a proper duct system. I agree , that shit pisses me off when I see those abortions. Nothing prettier than a nice shiny hand fabricated properly sized, neat duct system. And yes you are right, when encapsulating an attic space like that you should have for one, taken out the attic floor insulation and either install an erv/hrv with fresh air intake, and or whole house dehum with fresh air intake. While also piping some of that air into the attic space.
Thanks for posting your comments I appreciate it
This is the perfect training video to discourage young men from choosing HVAC as a career ‼️
Peter is close to being ready. But he has to be more aware on things are taken apart and put back together.
Maybe a little longer being with you, but at this point, if he worked for me, I would experiment to know the basics and get started on taking things apart depending on the job that is tasked for us to do, and I finish or supervise the work.
umm at 8:00 "we have a Chinese brand". on label "asm. in Mexico". but probably of the finest Chinese materials. 🤣
Maybe ;)
We had pugs for 20 years. Pugs and French bull dogs are great dogs. The shedding will drive you nuts and you always need sticky tape before leaving the house.
i cant wrap my mind around the fact that they had a switch there was one when they uninstalled it but they just didn't put it back like they must have taken it off and just threw it and didn't even care about the next guy they clearly did not plan to come back
How many times can i say it: hacks bring me stacks
do yu ever stop at a stop sign?
hello kitty T shirt LMFAO!!!!!!
My peter is always ready 😛
Low airflow Mike, TXV is doing its job by maintaining superheat, low suction saturation pressure=low airflow across the coil
Checked airflow. Good 👍
seeing the TXV was slowly hunting back and forth, here's some possibilities.
maybe a zone damper going bad (gears stripping out?)opening/closing some and repeating. gas fractioning or non-condensables in the system, especially seeing the missing caps, god only knows what previous techs put in it for refrigerant or how much "air" they got in by not purging hoses.
could also be bad txv bulb placement or lack of it being tight to the line, generally the TXV bulb gets routed outside the cabinet clamped on the suction line and wrapped with insulation tape. most all manufactures specify that as part of the install routine.
11:26 Insulating black blanket overheats the compressor. If the compressor makes an unusual sound, it should be checked where this sound is coming from.
if the system is working right, the "refrigerant" being pumped keeps it cool.
@@throttlebottle5906 He said a few seconds ago that the compressor is blazing hot.
@@mohsenpanahi6773 from being low on charge and having the indoor coil iced, there wasn't sufficient refrigerant flowing to cool it well.
@@throttlebottle5906 He didn't talk about iced coil, did he?

They count as a stop, at long as you aren't accelerating, right?
Facts
What is a code book?
I think he needs more hands-on experience, I don't think he is mechanically inclined.
What a mess that duct work looked like. Reminds me of a rats nest. Hope you show how you get it all fixed.
any hopes of starting to get premieres and live chats again?
Sunday evening
how much of the problem is the stat being set so cold is that a big deal or nah
Nahhh
How do people not install Bessler stairs to their attic if they don’t have them? I couldn’t live in a house without a walk up accessible attic.
I go into some multi million dollar homes here in Texas and they'll have 100k worth of lighting fixtures and a friggin 2'x2' scuttle hole in a bedroom closet for attic access. Drives me nuts .
@@harbosonius crazy.
Mike do you have a photographic memory ?
I worry about Peter. The fan assembly thing for example. You always say "a good technician should be aware of his surroundings". Even I knew could see he was attempting to put the fan unit in back to front. Who could think that the capacitor goes at the back? I do wonder whether his performance could be related to the fact that he's always being filmed?
In summary, still some time to go before he gets his own van!
At the end of the video you had a bottle of R22 but you said r410a. Is that r22 or 410a you are using ?
410A. Sorry.
Peter doesn't seem to have basic mechanical knowledge like when he had to be told you don't have to totally remove a set screw.. That being said, he's bright and motivated and if brought along, he can become an excellent technician. However, I would not put him out on his own yet.
yeah, at times it's like he's trying to hammer the square peg through the round or triangle hole, but he's improving and learning all the tools, parts and more. for sure needs more hands on time and guidance, like the set screw, only way to learn mechanical skills is by watching and doing the same.
maybe some truck time and hands on laboring with the other fellas wouldn't hurt, the camera is for sure adding extra burden and may trip up the best folks.
I think you are asking a lot of Peter. I went to HVAC school, and didn't learn a damn thing about boilers. I learned AC and Heating, you are asking him to learn plumbing, boilers, heat pumps, AC's, gas furnaces, air handlers, and install, all OJT. That's a lot to ask, with no formal training/classroom. No I don't think he is ready to be on his own, unless it's confined to one type of job that you know he can do.
you don't like to stop at stop signs?
Slalom - New Year- mistakes make us better
If you don't make mistakes, you ain't doing anything.
Shit happens!
Peter is a good kid. Everyone learns at a different rate. Some people catch on quicker, some people take a little more time. He just needs more confidence. A Latina chica might help.
Cringe

Mike I think Peter was ready long ago. In my opinion you tend to baby him. Its time for the bird to leave the nest
Only way you'll know if peter is ready is to cut his ass loose and see how he does. He's either gonna sink or swim. Ive got confidence in him.
My Wife Was Driving To Work And Hit A Tree. She Said It Wasn't Her Fault She Blew The Horn. 😵💫 😩
peters getting close needs more hands on and social skills dealing with clients although he is better than the guy that takes apart a system with the gas and power still on lol
504 thumbs uP
if i give you a check that starts w 2 and is 5 digits long will you come to PA to fix my shit AC? please? :)
Maybe
$200.00 won't even get you a truck roll. 🤪🤪
Throw Peter to the wolves I went for like a month with one guy doing service than got a truck I think he will learn more without you cuz he is nervous to make mistakes with u there but when he makes a mistake on his own he will learn and not do it again and he can always call u or Daniel to help and walk him thru calls
Invest in Peter, send him for training.
French bull dogs are geourgous.
Toda Mikey shana to a
Put Peter in a truck and give him some service calls. He’ll be good.👍 That’s how I learned.
yeah?
Exactly
No, pm calls. Service calls there will be callbacks. Pm is where you learn how correct system are operating and what you will be looking is out of range caps and how to test safeties and removing blower motors to clean and cleaning coils. A few months then put some service calls in there. Give him a checklist to go by what to check and record all readings. I got it down in just a few months and then going through seasons you then can take on service calls. He will not learn riding with somebody telling him exactly what to do all the time. Even experienced techs see equipment they never worked on before but if you know the basics you can troubleshoot anything
@@acrservicesmathewr7565 you’re right. I meant PM’s.
He needs more hands on experience Mikey, you need to let him do more stuff like yesterday before you put him in a van. Oh and a bit more confidence in what he’s doing. Be well
Thanks. Have a great weekend
