There is a fine line between artistic and absurd and I think FortNine is pretty close to crossing that line. The videos seem to be evolving from practical to just plain goofy, which is OK if your goal is entertainment rather than information.
@LTVoyager: Some channels would have made a tedious half hour vid on converting those ammo boxes. This conveys enough inspiration in a few minutes for any DIYer to make something similar,,, all the while raising a smile with their donutty antics.
@@GoalSquad666I was astounded to see how many people were being rude regarding 44 in the comments. It's like they thought 44 killed Ryan and wore his skin.
Ryan and 44, you're killing it. This is everything: the focus shifts, the split screens, the finger swipe at 1:35 perfectly in sync with the music. How can a short instructional feel like a music video, an 80s montage and a feature film all at once. HOW?!?
For all the sleekness of modern bikes, there's something to be said about older bikes (and cars for that matter) that just have random bolt points available all over the place. So useful.
As someone that works in the film industry, that's some quality storytelling! And on top of that it manages to be an instrudtion manual for making an awesome set of panniers? What more can you ask? Nicely done!
I’ve watched other channels that add a new character into the mix, and it usually degrades the experience for me. I understand it makes it easier for the production team and the channel, but the reason I started watching those channels in the first place was because I loved the character, and the atmosphere. 44 is one of the rare editions that only adds to the viewing experience, and solidifies in my mind the fact that this channel knows what it’s doing. I applaud the production team for the marvelous work that they continually provide for my viewing pleasure.

A few years ago I met a couple of Marine vets returning from a veterans motorcycle rally, one of whom had mounted 50 cal ammo cans as panniers to his Harley. Totally sanitary installation, plus the period correct considering the provenance of the rider.
I just attached 20mm ammo cans onto my crf300l as diy panniers and they work great. They are larger them 50 cal cans and are about the same size of tusk aluminum panniers for a third of the price. I think I will do the cable lock like he did, seems to be a much better locking system.
I mounted 30mm cans to my vstrom. I saved money by making the rack for them as well. I can't believe what they sell those aluminum ones for. I did order ammo can locks off Amazon tho. You can easily clip that cable with a leatherman
Another simpler latch lock. Drill a hole into the box at the center of the hole in the latch. Put a bolt through the hole from the inside and nut it down. Drill a hole through the end of the bolt for the pad lock. This would work better on a latch with a much smaller hole in it though.
@@bloodbushcraft2467 well, maybe not a Leatherman, but it will definitely stop a normal criminal from getting in. Any really determined criminal will get in to any lock but if it stops 9 out of 10, thats a good lock.
Thinking outside the box, simple solution, and presented in a clear artistic way. I like the voiceless 44 as his actions are communicated wonderfully clear, though all of this for Donuts was a kind of ridiculous, but that was the humor of it. I would give you three thumbs up, but I am blessed by birth with only two… and since this episode spoke to the members of this channel so loudly I made up a new word just for FortNine: “FortNinetissimo”… lol
I put 60mm Mortar cans on my KLR, amazingly useful but they weighed down that bike. The performance was a drastic difference when they were on and off.
Harbor Freight carries ammo cans of different sizes in metal and much lighter plastic. Both are cheap as dirt. Between the $50 pannier racks and $24 for two, heavy duty .50 cal, watertight metal ammo cans, I'm happy to once again "beat the system," cheap man that I am. I think, like highway crash bars on a cruiser, they may very very save a leg or exhaust some day. Bought a smaller pair of .32 cal cans for the front panniers on the front of my RE Himalayan. I think they may also save a leg, light, gad tank, etc, if I ever go down. Plus, the Army Green color looks awesome, IMO, with the camoflauge "Pine Green" color on the bike.
I put the Princess Auto (aka Canadian Harbor Freight) Pelican knockoffs on my KLR. Mucho lighter. I have real Pelicans on my WeeStrom and boy have they been crash tested. The Pelicans survived to bend the racks they're hanging off of.
I also added a set of 60mm grenade round cans from Princess Auto to my KLX (Just like to add that Princess Auto is also a terrible store compared to Harbor Freight). They're too heavy for offroad. They'll shake the racks right off the bike. But they're great for commuting and running around town. On and off in under a minute for when the offroad mood strikes.
I once drilled my own Bulgarian's 7.62 boxes for panniers on the old KX125. One of them was cheesed the heck out due to my amature drilling. Next day I drilled and mounted a Lock & Lock aluminum lunch box, solved that BS and called it a day. The OG Soviet era ammo box gave up 6 years later, L&L still there.
Smiling ear-to-ear, and thinking about donuts! At least several dozen ideas, including donut and fabrication, in the course of 4 and a half minutes! Thank you! BTW, Harbor Freight carries .32 and .50 cal sized, watertight, metal ammo cans for lame guys like me that have never come across the real things. I bought mine for around $12/ea after seeing a UA-camr post a video of one submerged in his bathtub with a light and camera inside! Sold! Should look good on my camouflage "Pine Green" RE Himalayan, if I ever stop riding it long enough to install my $12 cans. Gotta take advantage of Royal Enfield's 3-year unlimited mileage warranty!
I just added one of these to my bike a couple weeks ago. It sits on top of my little luggage rack and just has a couple of U bolts that come up into the bottom of the box and wrap around the luggage rack bars. Bolted from the inside, with a locking mechanism on the outside. I love it!
Those are awesome panniers! The American expression "Give 'em the whole nine yards" comes from ammo boxes: if you'd remove the original belted ammo and laid it out, the length of that belt is nine yards. Ammo boxes on a vehicle hide a lethal secret if you store actual ammo in them for a very long time: The gunpowder in each bullet is made of super stable nitro cellulose, shaped into little grains or tiny flakes. Driving over bumps shakes the gunpowder around inside the casing, and over time can turn it into powder. Nitro cellulose in powdered form has a dramatic increase in burn rate, instantly transforming your rifle into a pipe bomb that you are holding next to your face.

Finally! I've been wanting to add boxes to my 75 tc185 for awhile now, and the van van has the exact same rear lights and rack setup. I'm going to attempt to make this exact setup, wish me luck! I might use 50 cal boxes though, and add mounts for some gas cans.

I used to own one of those Suzuki RV125 in kermit the frog green. NKY784# 1974 reg, handling sucked but really enjoyed it 👍😆 never made those panniers though, brilliant video
I actually did this about 8 years ago to both my bikes. Lots of extra watertight storage and with a proper insert I can take coffee to work. Also when mounted sturdy enough they add extra protection if you forget to drop your kickstand and dismount or a car knocks you down in a parking lot.

When I needed them, I went with Joe Rocket Alter Ego saddlebags. Best purchase ever. I mounted them over a homemade steel frame and they keep rocking after 4 years.
Finally! I've been wanting to add boxes to my 75 tc185 for awhile now, and the van van has the exact same rear lights and rack setup. I'm going to attempt to make this exact setup, wish me luck! I might use 50 cal boxes though, and add mounts for some gas cans.
You guys at F9 are one of very few channels that I can't justify doing something else to whilst just listening to the audio. I know I'll be missing out if I do.
A true craftsman with bandages on fingers and blood blister under nails. A few cuts and scapes icing on the cake. Great idea! Thx
Honestly this channel is pure gold
Another masterpiece. Well done to the whole team... and please keep them coming!
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. The final expression on 44s face as the keys disappeared was priceless, LMAO.
I can't believe I've only recently found this channel. Guess I have to go back and watch their entire archive of videos now! :)
I have a 14 versys 650 that the previous owner put 20mm ammo cans on. Looks weird but they work fantastic and they hold SO MUCH STUFF! I pack it out like a rented mule!
The sound of that 2-stroke……..such memories!
